Looks good, cleans up the field, and gives you a little more room to operate. Really great job! I agree…crushing the old brick and concrete will definitely save you some money, and I like that you are reusing the material elsewhere. Congratulations on getting the grant to put a roof on the silage area next year!
Tom, I love your channel. You teach/show us so many sides to farming. When you think of dairy farming you think of cows in a field until its time to milk.....repeat. Now we know its the type of grass along with all of the other feed and supplements. Its cow comfort that is involved also. The amount of time ,money, and the entire thought process involved to update and maintain the buildings and properties to make your farm more efficient for time and profit. I never new grants were involved but it does make sense and it increases modernization. The crusher was impressive also and you told us again about the cost side of things. Thanks Tom from an old great grandmother that lives in a busy city in the states.
Tom you’re a farmer if you didn’t like the smell of dirt we would all be concerned. Great job on recycling and it is amazing how much recycling you guys are done on the farm and it’s true farmers of the Kings recycling I just hope other farmers and other areas do this as well because I think in some places they’re not as good at doing it as you are. Everyone have a great week. be well be you
Tom we ranch in the US, couldn't do the many projects without an excavator, dozer, motorgrader, telehandler, skid steer, and a compactor, good project, we had a pile crushed up about 3/4 inch, 200 yards
Really nice video Tom. Greetings from Latvia. We had no rain for 2-3 months, was hard to get any silage, but now it's raining every day and it's impossible to harvest grain. Lovely weather😅
So much rain for you there 🌧💧💧☹️ I suppose you can fill all those muddy areas in with the crush up concrete. Hope the weather improves for you. 👍👍😊. Cheers to Joanna ❤️
Just a suggestion, remove the overburden top soil on low flooded ground, back fill the crushed building bricks & stone then back fill the overburden top soil on top of the crushed stones.
Dig out some sand from a back spot and add 20 ton to that pile then mix it up with the loader. If too much soil it will compact. Adding sand sorts that out.
Please do a video about your breeding decisions and your replacements. Why have you got some Jersey cross cows? Is it something to do with producing more butter fat and cream?
As a child in the 50’s I had 2 great uncles in Worcester who were dairy farmers on 2 separate farms. They never changed milking time not even for daylight saving
Working a dairy yard in days past, was told by the farmer - "cows can't tell time, but they will let you know when you're late!! And what damn fool thought moving the hands on a clock would give you more day light!" 🤣
@bobf4765 i figured they only moved the hand on the clock so that the farmers' children could get extra "daytime" in the planting season before school
Nice bit of kit that crusher, like you say it will save you money as well which is never a bad thing. It's also environmentally friendly in a number of ways, yes you are recycling, but your also not digging something out of the ground or dredging from the sea bed. Saw briefly the new drain being installed, going to be another game changer. Do the contractors doing the work have there own U-tube channel, would be interesting to see the process from there side. 👍🤗
The only good thing about the Landfill Tax is that it makes the recycling cost effective and worthwhile. Great stuff. Great to see your own " in calf heffer " walking the dog. 😊😊😊❤
In answer to your question at 0.22: by having the beams in line with eachother, you avoid any bending tension in the concrete while storing it. It's good practice. Your dad is right, but 'because I say so' is never the right answer 😄 It is the right way to work though 👍
All the best from Australia Tom & team! Your videos are always a welcome sight on Wednesday, Saturday and sometimes on Monday's too!🤣You are a fantastic representative of an essential but undervalued (invisible) work force! I grew up near Scarborough in Yorkshire where everyone was involved in the farming community in one way or the other. It's incredible how disconnected people have become from where their food comes from in such a short amount of time! Go well!
Hi Tom, I see the great British summer is in full effect LOL. When ever I watch any of your videos I cannot imagine how you fit everything in to a day. Milking top and tail of the day, then all the building projects, shooting a video, the time taken to edit and upload and of cause spending time with your lovely wife (soon to be MOM 🙂) . When do get time to sleep? might be a good subject for a video.
Hi Tom, you are a great recyclable farmer. Many people just throw things out and by new. That crushed rock will serve many purposes around the farm and save you so much money. Great idea. We got a quick glimpse of some progress works, so you are moving ahead to have the new parlour up and running soon. I think you will need a break soon too cause your next child is on the way and when here will keep you both on your toes. Great video. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.
Love how you show how/why you recycle! Can’t do enough to save money with the increased prices everywhere. Wow, I can’t believe the progress on your farm. Congrats to you and your dad for all the planning, contacting with excellent people and their companies and having to make all these decisions while keeping your farm working at compactly. Love that you share all of this with us. Would love to hear about the breeding process and how you determine what’s best for your farm and production. ❤❤
Great video as usual Tom. You are amazing on what you 're achieving on the farm. See the channelling going in and using the crushed stone already. With putting a roof on the silage will make alot better for water run off, as able to run the excess water to a collection pit instead of in the slurry. Nice to see Jo looking healthy and well, what date have you been given for baby as my wife keeps nagging me to ask ?Wonderful idea to crush all that rubble but now you have the task of spreading it out when needed, definitely be a big saving on cash.
i was just sat here thinking you should do a video on the comparison of the milking bail from the first milk to the last to see how well or quick they settled into it, could make for a good video
Good video Tom I'm surprised that a 1,000 pounds would cover that crusher for a days work. Looked like a McCluskey crusher, I was just past their manufacturing yard 2 weeks ago in the Peterborough area of Ontario, Canada.
Hi Tom. First of August today and we had to bring the cows in today and open a clamp of silage. We always try n give them a bale of straw in the field as a bit of roughage, helps bind there stomachs.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of jobs that go on behind what I thought farming was about. I have a lot of admiration for you , the family and team you work with. Thanks and take care. ❤
It would be good idea to a video about what you look for in a cow and what genetics you use and questions as well . How many calves would a cow have to turn from heifer to cow on your farm . My opinion is a heifer has a calf then it’s a cow
Great video excellent recycling and money saving. A breeding video for the herd would be interesting I realise the farm’s development video’s are of interest to most but the herd is at the heart of the business and how you’re changing the breeding and the results there of would be of interest to us farming types cheers
New JCB hat? Hopefully it arrived with some JCB demo kit for use n the farm. Love the paint on Pete's truck. Please suggest to him that he creates his own youtube channel.

Hi Tom, Minor suggestion, why don't you put on the milking machine in the same order you wiped the cows? I know it will add some steps for you to walk but it should give you more milk in the tank as the cows will have an even time to let down the milk and not depending on the order they entered the parlor. Greeting from Denmark, keep up the good work :)
