My first car was an old military surplus 1949 Ford!!. Flathead 6 w/ 3 on the tree. It took forever to just do the speed limit but was total fun for us to cruise around in. That back seat was easy to remove and the trunk held several stow aways getting into the drive-in flicks. Yes I am that old.....LOL.......but ahhh the memories of the best time this country has ever seen. Happy days !!
My Dad coming home from the war bought a '46 Ford and as a little guy I used to help him wash, polish and wrench on his car. When we moved in 54 he traded the '46 for a 1950 Ford that was pretty much exactly like this car. It fell into my hands when he bought his 1957 Ford and I loved the old car. I have some many good high school memories from this old car. I wish so much that I had it still. Good build and the color just POPS! Tommy sure does a good job on the welding.
Pop drug a '53 Ford truck out of his buddy's garden in the early '80's. Lord knows how long it sat there as it was the guys Grandpa's. Marvel in the plug holes while Pop worked on the rest. Simple backyard custom stuff. A little altitude adjustment, paint, wheels and tires and rewire she was ready for the engine. Rebuilt the Carb, sucked out the MMO, dropped in the plugs and hit the switch. That Old Flattie fired up like it had never missed a day and never missed a beat. Sounded like nothing else with those twin Cherry Bombs. He used it as his daily until an Old Timer made him an offer he couldn't pass up. Pop's had a few vehicles I wish I could've kept for myself but out of all of 'em, that '53 is the ONE I'd take over them all.
After Super Dually (i'm a truck guy to the core) this custom Ford definitely is my favorite project. Hopefully one day I can build one myself. Flathead and all.
I understand the mechanics of sponsorships…..I do…..but it’s gotten to the point where I’m waiting on the day when Tommy says, “Bathroom breaks are an integral part of any build. I’m gonna go in the ol’ water closet and drop a deuce, and this toilet paper from Summit Racing is gonna make sure that we’re all clean at the finish. Let’s get to it”
Hi very good work! lots of good custom fab's, please call the pin that's split for the castle headed nut a split pin! not a cotter pin there for bicycle peddles, thanks. 😎😎
Apart from the chassis not being blasted, I noticed that the original parts you put back on are dirt & rust covered. To make this a show car, it would have been nice to see the chassis powder coated, & all parts painted & the underbody treated. I would have gone that bit extra & made the skirts from steel & cut & welded them, as per the headlights. But overall, she do look goooood.
Very Interesting Work ! I think this is the most work I've seen Tommy Boshers actually do ... I have a hood for a 1996 Caprice Classic Custom I'm building, so I will contact that company in Tenn.
Great build. Suggest a bit of pin striping around where white of the roof meets the yellow of the body, the hood and louvres, rear number plate recess. Just to break up the it up abit. Thoroughly enjoyed following the build.
A friend and I made skirts out of metal and rolled them on a English wheel he built for a car I had. No fibreglass for me, no worries about breathing glass fibres that way, lol.
Those 49 to 51 Fords were famous for the bolts that hold the steering box to the frame breaking causing loss of steering. Happened to me back in the late 1960's. I went to several wrecking yards looking for replacement bolts and most all the 49 to 51 Fords had the steering boxes welded to the frame. A friend who was old Ford nut hooked me up with some allen head cap screws to fix the problem.
I worked in a wet laminate boat yard for years... back in the day when it came to P.P.E. they actually told us to not worry about the dust and fumes as we would cough that stuff right up. Well as the years went by and everyone learned more about the actual product we was using we learned that you actually don't cough that stuff up cause the particles are so small and sharp that it will embed into your lungs and ruin them just the dust alone not to mention what the fumes do to your head. In short fiberglassing is very bad for your health. For grinding I recommend covering up all exposed skin and male sure you have a dust mask that will specifically filter out organic peroxides as thats one of the main ingredients and one of the worst for you... please take my advice and done end up like me ... sitting home with junk lungs not able to breath well... you'll thank me
thanks for the tip. i do some fiberglassing as a hobby. mostly building audio fixtures for my car. I need to start wearing a real mask when I do it. they're just so annoying. maybe i'll buy something expensive that's more comfortable. fiberglassing looks so easy but I haven't figured everything out yet. self taught from youtube boat builders mostly
This was sold by Streetside Classics for 25K. Not sure when it sold, but the build was done in 2014, so I'm assuming it was shortly after the build was complete.
At 1:20:07 That ring terminal is just asking to get bumped and short out on the solenoid case! Needs a small piece of heat shrink around the crimp and the ring offset should be turned around.
These guys make me look good at fiberglassing lol. It seems like guy got some fiberglassing tips from someone in between doing the outside and the inside. I'm still learning and not all that good yet. Laying down fiberglass appears to be simple and straightforward but it's really not, in my experience. It's easier than painting but it still can be pretty tricky. I don't feel like looking through the comments but I would imagine that there's comments telling them how they should've done it. It turned out great though, and that's all that matters. The fiberglassing here was basically cosmetic so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway
These guys are incredible with what they know and can do! However, I agree with the guy who said that he could not imagine putting all of this work into a car without sandblasting the entire car and powder coating the entire chassis before they started. It’s kind of like the old saying, “Putting Lipstick In A Pig.”
You should inform your viewers that the suicide knob is actually illegal in some places. Some states, some counties or cities even if states allow. It's the responsible thing to do
Just personal preference, but it's a bit of a shame to get rid of the red 8 on the bullet nose. Would have worked well with the rim color choice and obviously fits the engine choice..
I just wish Fatman parts weren't expensive as crap for parts that don't fit worth a damn. I tried to put those uprights on my '49 and everything about them needed modification just to get them installed on the car. If camber adjustment was needed for the alignment, forget it because that cam was not moving once it was hammered into the upright. $900 not well spent
That is my 1947 ford sedan and 1971 ford mach 1 you showed at 1:26-1:28. Did you steal my pictures from my facebook or did you steal them off my youtube ?
MISS MY 49 FORD FLAT HEAD 8... FOUND IT IN A FIELD NEXT TO A OLD BODYSHOP. BOUGHT IT FOR $600 AND TOOK IT HOME AND HAD IT RUNNING THAT WEEKEND.. PLAYED WITH IT TILL A FRIEND TWISTED MY ARE FOR A FATHER SON PROJECT,SO I LET IT GO... MISTAKE....
Some of the things on this car have me questioning the skills of the hosts . When they applied the lizard skin it looked like they didn't really clean off any of the old dirt and materials . Also why mask off the tires to paint the rims when it would be easier to just remove the tires and paint the rims in the booth??
Watching some Power Nation this Saturday morning,
RIP Joe, to a life well lived, you are missed, one great build of many.

i retired after 43 years of doing paint and body repair, i enjoyed this video so much.reminded me of those projects i worked on all those years.

I'm working on this exact car in school right now. Rocker panels and hinges are what I'll trying to tackle next week. So happy to see this upload!!!!
damn they got real schools still eh
After Super Dually (i'm a truck guy to the core) this custom Ford definitely is my favorite project. Hopefully one day I can build one myself. Flathead and all.
The guy doing the skirts he knows what hes doing 👍😊😊
RIP Joe you were a class act!

Ya, this was 20 years ago with no budget. Was still the best show we had on cable.
That is so awesome! Well done Gary on such an epic build 👍
I was really impressed and I really like it 😃

Good video, Jay, hey RJ.
Central California watching
thanks for the showing how to suicide doors my 65 el camino is going to look GREAT.

Outstanding build 👍👍informative and incredible workmanship 🤟🦦🎏☯️🦍
Very cool!!!! 👍👍
I like how hes sanding in the paint booth, I guess its a good idea to learn from a hack
A friend and I made skirts out of metal and rolled them on a English wheel he built for a car I had. No fibreglass for me, no worries about breathing glass fibres that way, lol.
it,s called a mask !
You can wear your mask I'll still use metal.@@thomascassler4406
Great craftsmanship and a lot of detail. Not really a fan of the colors you chose, but that’s the spice of life. Good job.
Good job dug
Wonderful job.

This is the first I've ever heard of this
Try five weekend in Bowling Green Kentucky at beech bend raceway!

That's the duffiest looking car ever!
cool

It's hard to make a profit doing good work fixing up cars lke this, I would assume.
Being a person that was part of the 50’s your choice of colors combinations makes it look very south of the border
Looks like a f'd up 1950 Taxi in New Orleans. Same color pallete.
Nice GM A body pads and calipers. Funny how many old forms us GM parts.
Awesome build and awesome skills, but the two tone paint scheme makes me want to hurl
This is how I need to be taught.
Just my preference, I prefer darker colours or black on the radiator surround panels behind the grille. Light colours are distracting.
Looks like a Yellow Cab. I'm sure they used Fords, Chevys, and mostly Checkers.
Awesome 🤩🦾🦾🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸god bless America 🇺🇸

Blue is my wife's favorite color, so I vote blue. It is a change!
1956 Packard tail lights.

R.I. P Joe you'll hooked that old Ford 👆
seat belts?
The car bild is epic loved it ! Thumbs-up guys ! You sell it or keep it ?
A pro tip: Why not paint the rims red before mounting the tires.
When I hear this name remind me of show
Great car, awesome build, longest scripted infomercial ever! Adding this channel to the "Do Not Recommend" list.
1949 Ford Custom
project Banana Split
Sweet
Custom means 'DIFFERENT'.Cutting the top, dragging the ground and loud exhaust are standard.
So you dont use welding primer?

You guys are leaving Al the rust in the car welding part in top of it
Why in the world did you put red interior in that car black or dark gray with a look so much better
Ahhh the power of unlimited money, tools, and resources....
I guess these are not made for the rain. No windshield wipers.
That really should have been a mid-engine like a Tucker.
how about seat belts......will it have to have them?
RIP Joe✌❤😢
Drink every time they say "This old Ford..."
Imagine saying speed demons in a 150 horse car 😂
I would use lead on that hood strip.
Like 👍
Didnt know that Guy Fieri was a glass guy.
❤
Think I liked it better before they started.
🤔
My thoughts exactly!
Life is to short to drive a stock car.
I just wish Fatman parts weren't expensive as crap for parts that don't fit worth a damn. That kind of doors are usefull for breaking
Incredible build guys...just curious while you were at it why you didn't also update the tired suspension & the old steering box?
no chop???
Love everything about the build except the fender skirts, they just seem out of place on that particular body.
NEVER SEEN A GOOD OL FORD TAXI
I hate the wheel skirts. The red interior doesn't go with the yellow.
How much does that cost? $5000'00 . Nice to have money!!!
That is my 1947 ford sedan and 1971 ford mach 1 you showed at 1:26-1:28. Did you steal my pictures from my facebook or did you steal them off my youtube ?
2:07:47
Nice build. But it needs some kind of contrasting color on the interior. And sorry but those quarter skirts just doesn't look good on this car... jmo.
Fabulous video turned childish when flam throwers come in
MISS MY 49 FORD FLAT HEAD 8... MISTAKE....
Cool, except those heavy looking 1960’s bubble skirts.
Hello 👋👋👋 how are u 🙂 smiles 😁
Some of the things on this car have me questioning the skills of the hosts . When they applied the lizard skin it looked like they didn't really clean off any of the old dirt and materials . Also why mask off the tires to paint the rims when it would be easier to just remove the tires and paint the rims in the booth??
Body detail and presentation was poor in this build. Masking off the underbody to prevent rust from getting on the top coats!!! . WTF. I'm out a here.
The man in the blue are not good mekanic 😔😔sory
🙏🙏👍
It was cobbled together. I was questioning making a car of this quality and not using professionals to do it
Don’t forget the doors, you could see already the rust true the white paint…
