Great to see that format back (1/ find the car, 2/ the vision, 3/ follow the work 4/ see the result). No fake drama, all about the car.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a el Camino with the vinyl on the top of the bed like that
Me either
It was a custom ordered car, so you could order anything option. That was one of them.
It needs the vinyl bed cover.. it could look ok.
I have seen quite a few... Not as common as the vinyl top only though
From what I’ve been told by the elders. If you had money In 70-90 you could custom order whatever tf you wanted in whatever car you wanted.
That car would never have run right if the new guy hadn't sorted out those kinked fuel lines! Well done, great job all around.
From buying the car to running it again, that's a lot of content for 1 single video! Thanks, this is awesome
Oh, this thing's got a vinyl mullet! 😂😂😂
Sounds like a heavy metal tribute band name "Vinyl Mullet".
Lol I love vinyl tops, but this one not even a mother could love.
They come off easy. Just spray matte black. Case Cosed. Not original roof, better than.
The rarest El Camino's ever produced!! That side bed trim down the 1/4 panel is irreplaceable. They only made maybe 1,000 with this option. Most were three 2 toned, some were three toned and I've rarely seen a vinyl top trim down the side! They found a priceless gem and probably don't even know it!!
Is that u dennis lol
Looks funky don't it
true, ive had 71/72's and never seen that trim,or a 400 big block. only the 454 ss!
You guys are right. This is a very strange / rare elco. If that is a factory top, I've never seen that before. It's ugly as sin. The 3rd gen elco always looks better with a vinyl top. But this one is just weird.
@@sprintcarsandguitars959 its a 400 small block no such thing as a chevy 400 big block... 396 and 402 is the closest you get
The el Camino. The OG of business in the front and party in the back, especially one with a mullet black vinyl top
When you're the "new guy" anywhere always stay Lowkey, got to earn your way in with the crowd
Yea if you always wanna stay bottom of totem pole.
@@mountainmanrandyyour comment wasnt needed.
I do have to say the fact that you didn’t beat this guy up over the price gives you 1,000x respect points. The majority of these people are selling their pride and joys because they desperately need money NOW more than EVER these days. I’m sure their ENTIRE FAMILY is INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL for YOU and will be because you just changed their lives❤
Lol he still low balled that guy
That car cleaned up is worth more than $10k
He over paid for that car. There are many unknowns when you buy a car that has to be towed away. It is a gamble
The difference between Dennis and Richards purchasing skills is hilarious.
Good job mike putting the tire whitewall out lol
My ADD kicked in full blast!!!
noticed that right away... was wondering if anyone else did...
New dude passed ✅

New dude was my neighbor in south Texas, great guy. Huge asset for the team.

👍 I like the new guy, some mellowness is refreshing.
How much do you like him ? 🏳️🌈
@@Michael-st3wg Just love him to death, can't get enough, gonna' name my first born New Guy, hope he runs for Leader Of The World one day!
Don't take my word for it but if this is the same person then "The New Guy" had some misfortunes going his way that is why he is so down to Earth even too much down. I pray that he can start over and learn from all this and have a great life going forward. He already have great mechanic skills that is a great start at GMG.
Mellow hell. He'll come into his own and be jackassing before you know it.
Kid did all the work. How comes hes not driving it?
Insurance.
Ever since he went to jail he lost his licence.
Think about it. Who bought it?
@@danieltindall1998not the guy driving it lol
Lots of charisma the new guy.May be wise to keep him behind the scene. On the flip side, the ElCamino this would have been a great car to do up. Pity its just a quick flip!
Mike with that wink...that sh*t cracked me up.
I was born in 72 and these Chevelles were all around. My parents had 1969 Impala with a 327 that was quick. My mother was car crazy, she had the best now I do. Glad I saw this, lost my parents a while back close together and it’s that time of the year and this el Camino reminds me of them, my mother wouldn’t go for that.
I’ve been watching you guys since FastnLoud. I love the longer video format without all the cable format BS. Thanks Richard and crew!
Like the new guy , he doesn’t clown for the camera and always liked older Comino’s and Rancheros. The side vinyl is kind of rare but ugly.
Suspect it was a vynal top applied by outside source using. Parts dept. Trim
The new guy seems pretty knowledgeable, I think he's gonna work out!
🎉 That's a Beautiful Truck and you should Trick it out!!! 400 Big Blocks are special order and only one thousand were made with the vinyl top down the side
It’s a 402 big block. Chevrolet called them turbo jet 400 on full size cars. And put 400 on fenders call outs
Good episode, Chris is the real deal. Anyone else ever get weirded out that Richard rarely makes eye contact when he's talking to the person? That shit would drive me crazy
Holy shit, Richard Rawlins, you graduated the year I was born. I’ve watched your show since the day it started on TV.
Who cares
Vice grip garage/Gas Monkey Garage needs to happen!
Vice grip maybe, gas monkey eeh,, naaaah!
I like the new guy. Quiet and unassuming and knows how to do multiple tasks.
Richard is good about giving people a fair deal.
He's getting soft 🤧 the old Richard woulda walked away
I love these barn finds.. buy them bring them back and fixem and sellem… keep these coming..nice simple and easy with no hemi necessary 😎
So happy to see new dude rebuilt the original carburetor instead of throwing an aftermarket on. Nowadays keeping all the #'s matching parts is key to a factory restoration. I know it's not an SS, but it's a factory BIG BLOCK and rare with the Deluxe trim package.
It’s NOT A BIG BLOCK! The 400 is a small block! 396 402 are big blocks 400 is Not
@Coyote9smilespergallon , YES, it IS a BIG BLOCK. 1972 Elcamino "400". Just like the Chevelle Malibu "400" which started in 1970. Understand these cars ARE NOT SS's! Even though it's displacement is 402 cubic inches (LS-3), it was called the Elcamino or Chevelle "400" . The options box was checked off for Elcamino Custom, which is basically Malibu trim level in a Chevelle. And the badge on the fenders "400" designated the LS-3 option. The 400 cubic inches SMALL BLOCK was NOT available in the Chevelle or Elcamino in 1972. Initially, the small block 400 was offered in the 1970 Monte Carlo. AND, 1972 was the last year of the "400" badge on the fenders designation of the LS-3.
Now, 1973 is where it all changed. The "400" 402 was no more, and if it said "400" it was a small block 400.
Engines for clarification:
1970 LF-6 400 small block 265hp 2bbl carb. (Monte Carlo ONLY)
1970 LS-3 "400" (402 big block) 330hp 4bbl carb. (NON- SS ONLY)
1970 L34 "396" (402 big block) 350hp 4bbl carb. (SS ONLY)
1971 LS-3 "400" (402 big block) 300hp 4bbl carb. (SS AND NON-SS)
1972 LS-3 "400" (402 big block) 230hp 4bbl carb (SS AND NON-SS)
Hope this helps clear up any confusion.
@@mikebrown8065 nope nope and nope! 400 were SMALL BLOCKS AND 402 in Chevys were NOT called 400s! 402 had the number plate on the car and some trucks the literally said 402 on the side and under the hood
@Coyote9smilespergallon , I understand what you mean. But, they did make Chevelle Malibu and Elcamino's with the "400" emblems on the fenders, and from what I kinda remember it wasn't for engine displacement. More of a trim level. But, they did have the 402 big block in them. The 400 series, also allowed the option to check off the rally dash , buckets, console, etc if one desired.
And I am specifically referring to the 1970-1972 model years only.
12 and a half? I want some of what he is smoking 10 is crazy too .... Good job inspecting that vinyl top
GMG will probably have it at 18.
Its worth that plus more this is one of the rare elcos and it has custom options etc
My dad paid mid20k for a showroom floor like new 72 just like this one same color and eveything but with a 454 it is a show car
Thank you for keeping it a survivor and not butchering it!!
Great episode! Chris seems like he will fit right in . Mike is hilarious . Love seeing Riviera in back ground. Congratulations on new car/hand cleaning line !
I can feel a mustache and mullet starting to grow just watching this!!!
Thank god ! I thought that was only happening to me. How could you possibly drive an elcamino without a mullet ? I bought my 68 elco in 1985. I was 16 and had the best mullet ever. The stash wasn't ready to grow for a few more years.
Good morning/ afternoon Richard and crew and I hope all is well and you have a wonderful weekend also thank you for sharing your journey on your way throw this crazy world we are living in now adays
GOT X-RATED WHEN RICHARD MENTIONED 2 FINGER'S 😮😂😂🙈🙈
Y’all need to grease the doors on that Ram. Sounds like a Ford. 😂
One of your best videos. This approach is interesting and easy to watch. I like the new guy. Hope you pay Mike well, very talented and like able. Hope to see more videos like this. Thx.
This is invaluable information for people getting started in restoration work
Love Mike!!! Poor Chris it would suck to be the newbie there because you know these guys are ruthless!!!!
🎉And Chris noticed the fuel lines too Bravo Brother!!! 😯😮😅
We like Chris the new guy, great addition to the team!
New guy is legit, used to live next door to his father’s farm in south Texas. Chris would get out there in a sxs Yamaha and tear it up. He knows how to go full throttle!!
I like this new dude!
He’s got a good vibe.
Maybe Mike should be his Beer-assistant
Mike is the SOUL of this show!
Oh my, what a terrific show this is! Good luck!
basically a Chevelle big block car 👍
love these cars ❤ fantastic find rescue & build
Definitely need more episodes like this on here 💪💪
That was a fun adventure to watch!
Love your content Richard 🖤🤍
I want to have a El Camino! Love the look of them.
It’s for sale 😉
An el Camino with a long vinyl roof like that …..
It has to be called the mullet!!!
🎉I Bet it has a Posi track in it!!!
Passin the torch, and trading tribal knowledge. This is what life is about, plus having friggin fun drinkin beeah doin it. Cheers 🍻

The vinyl top is like a El Camino Mullett. Epic
Excellent video, cool car, keep them coming👍
The best show in town. Awesome
Legends 😎 The store merch is pure gold!!!!!
Out of all the Cars these guys have done, this will most likely be on my Wish List for Life, 😊
That is a super cool machine!! Never knew it existed!! 🙂
Really happy GMG is on RUclips 👍👍👍
Tbh I like el caminos and I love this video. I can feel there passion for the vehicle. Asking about its story is rare now adays. He wanted the history behind a blast from the past and the amount of attention to detail while inspecting it. Man yall just gained a fan and a subscriber
Very tight and tidy feature. Great editing and audio mix and no jump cuts!
I had an El Camino just like that . 71 , 350 automatic . Had an electric issue . A short . I couldn't find the problem . Made me so mad I beat the shit out of it with a hammer . I was a lot younger then and didn't know what I know now. Wish I had all my old cars back . Would have a yard full . Thanks guys .
Great job all round. Well done to the newby.👍 🤠
In that ultrasonic cleaner Pine Saw works amazing
I had a 72 El Camino and since I was in the glass biz I took a pattern of the back window and ordered a tempered and beveled grey-lite 14 and installed it. Grey glass not applied tint. Miss that ride.
Glad to see that you’re still on UTube channel. Mr. Rawlings. Glad you got away from the high pressure of that Sponsor that was giving you so much trouble in the past. Hope to see more of your shows on UTube channel. Love to be apart of your team but I think ima just to old to keep up anymore but I’ve had over 43 years of working on cars from rebuilding engines to paint work and Fabrication
First thing always turn it over by hand 360 degrees love you guys keep the rubber side down.
I like the new guy's attitude and skill. Good stuff.
I use simple green and water in my ultrasonic cleaner. It makes motorcycle carbs look almost new..ive watched gas monkey garage for a long time. Keep up the good work guys
Glad to see Gas Monkey Garage, full episodes on YT!
Great Job Chris !
Mike is the best part of this “show”!
13:57 I love the honesty lmao
Love them elcos
I had a 71, that i resto modded.. built 383,m22. I used F body knuckles, and front sway bar from a SD trans am, and rear SS Chevelle sway bar and 12bolt LSD... I boxed the rear control arms too...that car/truck would hang with a Porsche 911 on the Angeles crest hwy twisties... Wish i still had it...
In 72 they changed the way hp was listed. 72 402 with dual exhaust was 240 net hp. In 71 it was gross hp of 300hp. I had the 72 402 el Camino in highschool, graduated 86. I burned many tires down to steel belts and left long long tire marks around the neighborhoods with Massive smoke shows. Car had some get up and go and could get up to good speeds on freeway no problem. 125mph was where I stopped.
This is so cool. The new guy is amazing.
Nice rare El Camino! The new guy is a winner, so keep him for the future!!! Nice video work and you have a great show!!!!
Chris passed!!! Goodman Josh got your Back Dude don't take it to far and always ask when in Doubt 🧐🤔😮😅🎉❤
I’m so pleased with gas monkey …. I love having mike back . Thank Richard for no more discovery… real life is so much better then scripted ….. it’s amazing to see how big and far you have brought this business.
Love me some Gas Monkey Garage on a hot summer day here in Sweden. :)
Rotation. Compression. Spark.
Vinyl top looks sick
Elkhart KS... I know it's nowhere. But there's a dude here that has hoarded all kinds of classics. It's crazy what he has out here.
My favorite vehicle ever made.
I've dreamed of this one since I was a kid in my dad's
Frickin excellent production man. Rad. 😊
That car is badass!!!
Love the Camino they make sweet hot rods .
That to me and a 63 split Window Vette are the two most beautiful Chevys ever made.
Cool episode, new dude did an excellent job! I learned some new stuff as well. Good job guys!
Not an El Camino guy at all but I like this one, and I kinda dig the Full black vinyl top, you don’t see that very often!
That gmc on the lift is so clean👍👍👍
Cool El Camino ! I wanted one so bad in High School 😂
One thing I've always wondered is that it seems all these revivals are intent on firing up the engine but I never hear them talk about checking if the oil pump is gummed up.
Hell yeah my brother 🔥 🙌 💪 💯
Good luck Chris dreamjob. Love the elcamino. I want to do a black and red inners and a nasty 572 twin turbo
Good job new dude👍🏻
12,500?! Crazy!
Seen it in y'all's parking lot today while stopping in with the big rig to grab a hat and shirt! Love those elkos and Rancheros!
