    I love watching you UK guys work on this stuff because it makes my situation feel so much easier in the USA lol. Jealous of those stone roofs and brickwork though.

    I used to do loft conversions, i stopped using padstones and switched to mild steel spreader plates 100x300x25mm much easier and you're not waiting for compo to go off.

      My loft conversion used these thick steel plates- worked well.

    Worth highlighting the Party Wall Agreement that's needed for the padstone works here. Many people forget this part (or simply don't know).

    I’m loving modern loft conversions, they are so “today” regarding free extra space etc..The only thing I have found is that many do suffer from unbearable over-heat during very long sunny periods, that make sleeping up there quite difficult…🤔

      Its the UK, we dont have very long sunny periods.

    Should the pad stone have been mortered using lime mortar and not sand/cement as the building looks older construction?

      For once someone asking a decent question !!
      The property was built in the 50’s so the cement used then was the sort of material used today.. so the structural engineer wanted today’s practices/materials used.. cheers for pointing it out tho 🤙🤙

    Quality videos, just spent about an hour straight watching 🤣
    Can't get my head around how the structural engineer never specified steels and then at least a 6x 2 timber. I've never seen a loft converted with 4x2 timbers just off the wall plate, central weight bearing wall and the opposite wall plate.
    So much easier and CHEAPER this way than 3 steals (1 fixed into each party walls one end 1 fixed opposite side into each party wall and then one at the ridge)

      @lawolsten 3 года назад +2

      Sorry lads, I'm now on day 4 and can see the steels going in to hold the new floor.
      Maybe I've had too much RUclips and my brains now mush, but why did you put the timbers in here?

    • @extendaspace-constructionc821
      @extendaspace-constructionc821  3 года назад +2

      Hi mate, he did specify a 150 x 90 PFC ridge beam which is what we bolted that 5x2 in to the web, and a 152 x 152 UC 46 under the ashlar wall 👍

    Because the weight is off, cutting a hole in the roof will not undermine the structural integrity of the roof………..
