Rob I've been following you on here what seems like forever anyway I'm a roofer by trade 34 years and am having next week off to do my loft storage and this is exactly how I'm doing it hope it all goes well keep up the good work love ya vids
Now this.. this is what I need to get in touch about. This is exactly what I want doing. Awesome job. That trip to the North East will have to become a 2024 must
Cracking vid. Doing my loft next year and the roof looks the exact same. Might be a silly question but Are the floor timbers sat on the wall or tide into the roof timbers?
@@builditwithrob I will try and explain my concerns - If you remove the horizontal tie beam/member then double up the common rafters but don't reintroduce some bracing to stop the roof spreading the loads are still being transferred down towards the eaves which may start to spread outwards if the rafters are not braced laterally across the width of the roof which was the purpose of the original tie beams. I just don't understand how doubling up the common rafters does anything unless you want to increase the loads by putting heavier tiles on the roof. Perhaps you can get your engineer to comment here or if there are any engineers who can tell us what's going on and how this works from a structural view as I would really like to understand.
Top job I've never seen a treble beam used like that before I done over 100 attics in Dublin we use rsj,s I love your metal frame attics I don't think anybody is doing them in Dublin could you supply them to Ireland?
Hello this may seem like a stupid question so sorry if it is. How it the main beam fixed. Is it into the wall or resting on the ceiling joists and if so is there a supporting wall underneath. Love all your videos, you guys absolutely smash it.
Hello friend if you spend time in a room they class it as habitable space, if you was storing a railway up there and just looking at it now and again it would be fine
How do i get a quoted? Do you come to east anglia? I dont need windows, plastering or electrics on mine just floors and doors already insulated on floors.
Wonderful work Rob! Is the additional support added by screwing a new timber to the rafters enough to stop them from sagging, or is the stud wall adding support as well?
Hi, this is exactly what I want to have done to my semi detached loft, roughly how much should I be paying for such a service as I don't wanna have my pants pulled down from local builders..., thanks
What is the best way to handle all the dust and particles in the air? HEPA filter fan to eat the dust? Hoover nozzle in the air for 24 hours with a fan circulating air?
Why did you insulate between the floor joists I would have thought no insulation would have allowed the heat to help heat the space. Will you be installing metal joists and rafters as you did in your old job going forward, that looked a great system
@@builditwithrob you've gone quite far away from your area. I've got exact same loft. Likely same dimensions too. Any indication what it may cost in materials and labour?
Awesome mate. Hope your new circumstances are working out ok. Keep the videos coming
Thanks for sharing, very informative and helpful 👍
Love the detailed explanation of the works being done
Thank you

Great to see your keeping your end up ? and the videos are showing how a wooden frame out works . Nice work you two .🤩🤩

Great Work Rob. Tidy.
This is best video i have seen respect from cork
Thank you
awesome, solid job 👍
Can you explain how removal of the original lateral ties, then doubling up the joists restores lateral restraint?
Hello I’m sorry I can’t I don’t fully understand the stresses and loads, I follow the engineers plans and calcs

Hello nial
I’m no longer using the steel kits
Nice work

How much would this cost on average ?
cracking job
Good to see your doing ok mate

Hi Rob. The Triple beam is sitting on the load bearing wall beneath ?
It sure was bud
Great video. Just wondering what the triple beam sits on? It seems to stop short of the end wall next to the access hatch.
Exellent job😊
Thank you 👍
Great Job. What would a job like that cost if you dont mind me asking, just as a guide, Thanks.
good vid thanks lee

quick question do these planning permission ect if for example you put a model railway up there? the rooms not being used to sleep or live in
Hello friend if you spend time in a room they class it as habitable space, if you was storing a railway up there and just looking at it now and again it would be fine
great job.
Brill job
Where does the triple beam sit? In the wall end to end or on top of joistsc
It sits on top of solid wall below
Habitable room no fire escape? Timbers not sitting on plate?
Another smart tidy job Rob ! Little john from chichester
Thanks John
Looks incredible, what were those things flying around? Was that a bunch of flies or bits of insulation?
hi rob how much did this project cost
How do i get a quoted? Do you come to east anglia? I dont need windows, plastering or electrics on mine just floors and doors already insulated on floors.
Super video. Clear and to the point! How much for this exact job same type of roof and similar size?
i have the same house, how much was it to do it
Wonderful work Rob! Is the additional support added by screwing a new timber to the rafters enough to stop them from sagging, or is the stud wall adding support as well?

What’s roughly the cost of job, as I’m thinking of having it done next year
Hello Robert
The cost was £11,800 I believe
How much for the structure was that please I am aware prices differ but looking for something similar and my loft looks like that. Thankyou 👍🏽
Will this work on standard 3 bed semi detached house.
Great job! How do we get a quote from you? We have the same loft as one in the video and would love something like this done

Not much headroom coming thru that hatch Rob 🤔
There really wasn’t bit close for my liking
Great vid mate but never work to the line ..1/8 over 20ft ur up st creek.always stay just off the line
Good advice Sean 👍
Was building control involved in this conversation?
Hello yes it had building control, structural engineers plans, and calcs
@@builditwithrob thanks for your quick reply.
BC normally requires enforced ridge beam as well. Perhaps your area is different.

How much?
I hate working on joists. My feet ain't built for it
I do full conversions in Leeds and have to jump through a lot more hoops than this!
Hi paddy this job was in London
It had calcs plans and building control
It was signed off. Everything was legitimate
Not faulting the work by the way just seems a grey area
Is this even legal???
Oi mate, av u got a loicense te be arskin qwestyuns?
Pity they didn’t extend the hipped end into a gable. It would have given them much more room and an easier access.
It would have made so much more space
Even a simple dormer over the loft access would help.
Gone quiet again. Hope all is ok
Hi bud everything is great I’ve been so busy working I’ve not had time to edit any videos
