Day 2/3 .. Loft Conversion uk [roof windows and site clearance] ✌️
Days 2 and 3 on a loft conversion we’re building in London uk.
In this episode we’re clearing out the loft and setting up the site ready to start constructing this loft conversion we’re currently building.
We’ve started putting in the pad stones and marking out for the staircase.
We’re also getting in the double timbers for the roof windows that will be installed next week..
In the next episode we’ll be be getting ready to measure out the steels ready for ordering and looking at pitching the roof.

Never put flexible hoses straight into the ballofix valves. They a shamfered to squeeze olives so will cut the washer over time. Nice squint cuts on the pvc though 👌

Personally I would have slotted the new rafters into and resting on the steel rather than using hangers that will rely on the fixings on the timber, wood rots,(dry or wet) ,what will hold the new floor then?
Hi Allen, I see what your saying but the engineers and building control are happy with either method.. the woods treated so won’t rot, also the space in the roof is dry and moisture free so won’t rot here either..
Should slate pack
Not really Oli.. because we load the top of the steel with pug, once we’ve tightened the Acro’s either side it leaves no chance of movement, where packing it with slate doesn’t always do the job..
Should the pad stone have been mortered using lime mortar and not sand/cement as the building looks older construction?
For once someone asking a decent question !! The property was built in the 50’s so the cement used then was the sort of material used today.. so the structural engineer wanted today’s practices/materials used.. cheers for pointing it out tho 🤙🤙
Use a thinner plasterboard on the square bit, then just scrim the internal andbpatch up flush to existing plaster. You're welcome 🙏

Hi, it’s DPC, (Damp proof course) to stop rising damp in to the floor and walls above. 👍

They haven't laid dpc below floor blocks where they go from beam to wall at perimeters of walls. This is a build regs requirement.

So instead of using a drawing compas, you just need a drill, screw and a wire with dimensions based on eyeballing... nice.

Obviously my understanding of a circle is a bit different.
Obviously I’ve seen better circles but it gets you out of trouble if you don’t have a hole saw, but only do this when it’s not seen!
