    The C70 looks like it holds on to more colour information when its pushed. That's something I really like about the C70s sensor, the colours are really well saturated and clean.
    Also don't forget with the speedbooster attached to the C70, it exposes 1 stop brighter than the ISO would suggest, so if you have the speedbooster you're probably only loosing out 1 stop of clean ISO performance to the C80.
    I actually like the soft look of the C70 too... it makes me look less ugly :), so I'm hanging on to my 2 C70s. Still really great cameras.

    This is indeed a very interesting release. I’ve shot a lot of work with my C70 since 2020 and pre-ordered the C400 as it has the upgrades I really want. RAW, Removable handle for on the gimbal, the triple ISO for run&gun work and the improved auto focus.
    I want to replace my RED Komodo, not my C70. That is why for me the ability to shoot 6k 60p in RAW is a big reason this is an actual upgrade. It’s why I felt the C400 could replace my RED Komodo and be a better combo with the C70 than the Komodo ever could be. If the C80 could have done FF (6k) RAW 60P (aka use CF Express B) I might have changed my pre-order.
    However my bullet proof plan to use the c400 and C70 in tandem is now shattered as the C80 is clearly tailored perfectly to be the B-cam to a C400 A-cam setup haha.
    For now I’m quite excited still for the c400 and I hope it will start shipping soon.

    I expected the C70 DGO sensor to be cleaner as well, now I'm considering upgrading for the better AF, better ISO performance, and sharper 4k footage. There was more detail in the shadows in the C70 test footage while the C80 shadows looked a bit crushed, but I'll sacrifice some shadow detail for cleaner images. Waiting for more tests on noise performance, but this seems to be the next step for me. Great review, thanks!

    Notice how much less contrasty the c70 is? Not the highlights, bot the shadows seem to be more lifted. That's the effect of it having having more dynamic range, which is quite interesting. That's about 0.5-1 stop difference in DR

    • @carlyates2487
      @carlyates2487 2 месяца назад

      We have to wait for production units to know for sure. (as the noise at ISO 800 tests in this video did surprise me!)
      But the general consensus is that C70 / C300 III have slightly (maybe 0.5 stops) more DR than C80 / C400
      Personally though, the advantages that C400 / C80 bring far outweigh that

Perhaps Atomos can come to the rescue here and permit the Ninja V and all of its variants to accept the 6K resolution up the HDMI cable, so we can shoot in ProRes 422, or Avid DNxHR, or h.265 from a full frame 6K resolution feed out from the C80?*

    I skipped straight to the C80 vs C400 section since this seems like a huge undercutting of the C400. It really does look like it’s just a form factor choice in terms of actual loss of functionality. This SD card slot causes a greater cost for memory and lower frame rate choices. But this seems like the C300 III vs C70 choice without the true crippling of a loss of SDI in the C70.

    • @carlyates2487
      @carlyates2487 2 месяца назад +1

      This is definitely a very aggressive move from Canon, the C400 was already well priced.
      The big difference is frame rates & modular vs all-in-one design.
      6K raw is 30p not 60p, 4K all I is 60p not 120p. But if you use LongGOP or HEVC then they are the same there.

      @@carlyates2487 it takes a lot to move to another ecosystem and unless necessary, we do not want to move. Now after buying a lot of sony lens I don't see me moving back to canon in next future unless sony screw up among the way.

    such big camera cant shoot 4k 120fps in fullframe, FX6 still much better camera if you ignore 6k[only30fps]

    2 SD card slots why ???

    • @carlyates2487
      @carlyates2487 2 месяца назад

      Likely because the C70 design already used SD cards, they are small and fit inside the space in the handle. Using CFexpress would likely have been a bigger body redesign that it would first seem.

    why are all "videographer" youtube channels doing an iphone vs high end camera? have they became obsolete for the general audience? should I invest the money I saved for over a year in a camera nice rig for documentaries? or should I change my old android phone to an iphone?

      No Genlock

      Not having third party full frame RF lenses is really holding canon back. At least we are seeing some APS-C third party options now so thats a step in the right direction.
      Remember that Canon's RF to EF adapter still exists and works very well with cameras like this.

      Disagree. It's Canon's business decision that sucks. Canon and Nikon vintage lenses are highly sought after until now, not Sony though. Modern lenses, they're all about the same.
