I love BRAW and Blackmagic cameras. I once owned the BMPCC4K. I have the S5ii, and I plan on getting the key to unlock BRAW and one of the BM 12G monitors so I can record BRAW. Until I can afford another camera I'll be working with the S5ii. Thanks, Armando, for another fantastic video featuring the PYXIS. The footage looks fantastic.
Armando, thanks for this detailed and information rich video on the Pyxis 6k. You promised and have delivered. I can't wait to get my hands on the Pyxis. Cheers
Pyxis aside, love to see some more formal real-world content about the BLKBRD Mantis!! I'm so curious about it and it seems killer. Would love to see a dedicated video about that some time in the future.
At this point most digital cinema camera's are just data capturing machines. Ready to be shaped and molded by a good colorist. That's what fundamentally really sets the final image apart nowadays.
True man, it's definitely NOT a pocket. It IS the Full Frame, hahaha I'm joking of course because I agree, the form factor does play a role, and the connections also change the way you work with the camera. I love my blackmagic. Cheers Mondo!
I don’t understand the hate that blackmagic gets. People talk about “oh it’s not a new sensor!” But Arri, RED, canon, Sony and so many others have used the same sensors in cameras over 2,3 and even 10 years. What’s the issue of the sensor is amazing?
While I do agree rolling shutter has been blown out of proportion on youtube (mainly by people whose style isn’t really affected by rolling shutter anyway), it is still a very commonly discussed topic in the film industry as well. People want proper rendition of motion. That of which goes beyond whip pans. It can be any type of motion (whether of the camera or something in frame while the camera is stationary) that is too quick for the sensor’s readout to properly capture its motion. In your fighting scene, you can see it in the vertical points of the fence and that isn’t even that demanding of a shot, motion wise. A beautiful shot by the way! But that slow readout is still making itself clear. Now, it being a problem or not is subjective to what the production is/isn’t okay with. It wasn’t a problem with film, but has been with digital cameras, which are still relatively new, especially in cinema. Seeing rolling shutter in hollywood films can be due to the production not caring or simply dealing with the camera’s readout limitations for whatever reason. But as digital camera technology continues to improve, we will certainly see less and less rolling shutter artifacts in films as manufacturers have always been making a conscious effort to lessen or eliminate it. At least it being spoken about so often on youtube will result in prosumer bodies getting faster readouts.
I’d like more info on the Kondor Blue top handle. That looks excellent. Hoping it can work with any cage, which is frequently not possible on other manufacturers too handles.
Hey Armando, what would you say The price is for a small, medium, and large rig for this camera? Just trying to gauge different price points to get into using this camera. I absolutely love using black magic raw with the video assist monitor on my Z cam E2 S6. I shoot cinematic style commercial projects. My favorite lens to use is the Helios 44-2. The combination is just stunning, and I can’t get the same results if I use z raw. I think the Pyxis would be the perfect cinema camera for me for the cinema style projects that I do. I use Panasonic S5 2X as my b cam, because I can also get b raw out of it.
Thank you for not being what I call a BWAC (Bro With A Camera) like so many YT influencers who are slamming the Pyxis because their footage looks like shit. Yours looks great. Same camera. Gee, I wonder what the difference might be....? Could you do a video with the 3 different rig setups shown here?
So you used a matt box on the outside shots or just jacked up the shutter? Maybe the aperture? I think you could get away with a 6.0 aperture on a 135 lens and still have plenty of background blur
Wouldn't this make streaming use more data all so I can't tell the difference while watching movies on my phone? HD 1080 p video is the clearest my eyes 👀 can see .
The issue with rolling shutter is once you know it exists you can’t un-see it. More importantly: you’ve ever had pushback from broadcasters/producers/editors because of this exact thing you would not consider saving a few dollars in rental or owner/operator costs. If it’s an indie/vanity project and you have creative control and nobody else cares then you’re probably fine. But that’s a very narrow market. This is similar in a way jello scrolling problem on tablets like the iPad mini. People do not care - then they see it, or learn about it - and then it drives them nuts. That pan down towards the ground in the fight scene is bad in a way it shouldn’t be. Blackmagic should and will fix this and when they do the camera will be undeniable.
Not buyin' it! Well... Because I'd want 2, and can anybody tell me what the plural of Pyxis is? LOL? (Pyxisisisisis?). Just kidding! Great video Armando!
