I can't lie. The C80 has me looking at Canon - again. The triple base ISO. The SDI output. The brighter monitor, etc., etc. Admittedly, I'm not in the market for the C80 at this time. But, I really love its features. The form factor is also attractive, because its DSLR style body draws less attention if I were to shoot in public locations. That being said, if I was able to, I would also get the C400 for shooting in a studio setting. However you slice it, the C80 is looking pretty good.
Literally a dream camera. Triple base iso (12800), 10 stops internal ND, full frame 6K raw, SDI, downsampled 4K, uncropped 4K 120p, with Canon autofocus and fantastic clog-2 for $5500?? As a Sony and Lumix user, anyone that complains about this camera is delusional.
honestly, i just have to laugh when i see comments from people complaining about any modern camera. they are all soooo good; it just depends on your needs.
Sorry to crash the party but Canon sabotaged the C80. No CF express type B slot and limited to 6K 30fps where the 2021 R3 can do 6k 60fps. If you shoot weeding 6k 60 fps is very useful
@@hawaiifreespeechnews it’s funny that no one complained that the fx6/9 didn’t have internal raw, but since this has internal raw up 30p only, people wine. I see this camera as a compressed codec camera with the ability to shoot std frame rate raw. When you look at it that way, it crushes cameras in its class. Just my opinion.
Canon can't be serious limiting a cine camera to little SD cards. Really. However, I expect the C80 can record to an external SSD although it would require rigging.
I think the biggest point is the Dynamic range, if it doesn't meet the C70 DR people will be disappointed, 😕 so we will see as people get their hands on the camera and see the real world comparisons. 🤔
The DGO sensor in the c70 will no doubt have a better dynamic range than the C80 BSI sensor.. DGO sensors just have better DR in general.. it’s how Arri is able to reach high levels of DR
we will have to wait and see. the c70 is great, but the highlights are not very robust whereas the shadows are amazing. I have a feeling that the C80/400 will have strong highlights like the C500ii and that camera has amazing DR
@@TylerEdwards C500 mkii is tested 13.1 stops of DR, whereas C300 mkiii / C70 is tested 12.9 stops of DR. Now Canon claims the C400 sensor is their most evolved, highest DR full frame sensor to date. From this logic the C400 should have even more DR than the C300 mkiii and C70. And even if it's not, it should at least be on par. I don´t think there is any meaningful difference in DR of this cameras. Anyway, I´m thrilled for a C400 DR lab test from Cined.
Canon said there’s a half stop difference between this and the DGO sensor, but every comparison I’ve seen shows the c80 just being sharper, no difference in DR. I’d conclude it makes no difference that it’s not a DGO sensor.
@@topicruben I got an incredible offer to buy RED HELIUM 8K with 7 inch monitor, Sidekivk and Vlock Back for GBP 2500. In your opinion, is it worth it ?
didnt realize that. that said, i dont think i actually use the touch screen for menus on my R5II come to think of it haha. muscle memory from my 5D days I guess?
@@TylerEdwards Yeah, not as big of a deal for menus. But if I'm using RF AF glass, I'm taking advantage of touch tracking. C400 MIGHT be solving this with the new USB-C monitor connection. A C400 with a single 5" or 7" Touch SmallHD TX onboard would be a dream.
Deciding to bottleneck the whole system (that runs faster processing than the R5C) by writing to SD cards was wildly stupid- To the point where it looks like they're deliberately capping its performance so as not to compete with the c400. Smh :/
@@TylerEdwards That's kind of short-sighted when you realise you have c400 internals but you cant use them properly because you want to keep using still photography media. All other competitors (including Canon's adjacent cameras) have moved onto high bandwidth media for their professional systems.
I could not agree more! I may try and sell my FX6 and buy one and just go all in on canon for everything
Canon has finally put Sony on notice! haha. In all seriousness, the C80 looks really impressive!
yes Tyler, I do want to nerd out about this. thank you sir.
so glad you joined!

Great options from Canon now!
Thanks for sharing!

It does look interesting. Canon shooters must be happy. Thanks for all the info, man. Cheers
I know some folks with the camera in hand and they are really impressed with it!
Would you consider this better than KX ?
ha, ha, ha... nope! I know you didn't ask me, but I'm sure that Tyler will agree with me; "It's a different camera for a different purpose" Cheers
