Propelled by a perfectly-timed homestretch kick, Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda pulled off an upset victory in the 800m, one of the biggest surprises of the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
Uganda never had a World Championships finalist in the women's 800m. Now they have had two and Nakaayi was the lesser-known of the pair is the world champion, defeating pre-event favourite Ajee Wilson.

I love how the other Ugandan didn't even get a medal, but she was as happy for her teammate as if she got the gold❣❣they celebrated in style
You meant Winnie. She always enjoys to belong to that circus of the fastest women of the planet. Saw her plenty of times at the diamond league meetings. Both girls are best friends and shared one room at the wcs. And, as a guy, both are really cute.
@@felixlingelbach2758 yeah I meant Winnie but didn't have time to look back at the names😅 they are so cute! It must be very special to make a world champs final together with your best friend
@@anikokoren3417 Especially when your starting point is Kampala, Uganda.
They are Ugandan
Team work ! They are more then the family .. They work each other to achieve the goal.. It doesn't matter who wins .. Respect.
Thanks Uganda for representing Africa we are proud of you.so humbled fron ✊🇰🇪✊🇰🇪
That celebration was one of the best I've ever seen...it brought a smile to my face and tears at the same time. I loved seeing Sum hug Nakaayi and Nanyondo afterward, it warmed my heart. 🇺🇬 🇰🇪
Love how Nanyondo is dancing and partying for Nakaayi!😂❤
Thats about ALL Kaffairs do IS Dance,
Kaffair s Dancinha /// You mean Shaking their Fat Ass
@@krissingh3958 Two things are infinite. The universe and human stupidity
rubenvg2003 Thsts how we do in Africa.
I watched this in real time and everytime I watch it I find myself laughing 😂 😂 😂.. The celebrations were genuine, real. Congrats African queens, congrats Uganda 🇺🇬. From Kenya 🇰🇪
Best celebration in history! So enjoyable! Haha I'm so glad for her win
U should watch 100m women hurdles where Jamaican finish 1st & 3rd
Look at how they dance and at how they are so grateful. That's another type of mentality. Loved it. Good job. Congratulations
These African people are very simple and kind hearted.. I really respect them and appreciate the lifestyle of them..
Respect and congratulation from India.
The dancing of Nakaayi and Nanyondo was absolutely fantastic
Always a pleasure watching African Royal Lions' victory celebrating dance ! So much love ;-)
the happiness of the uganda's girls, love it
Will never forget how proud Nakaayi made us! Watched this video so many times I have lost count
Cheers to Nanyonjo as well. Very good teammate and also did us proud
This race never get old 🇺🇬
exactly
I have watched it more than 20 times
I'm Jamaican but I'm Soo happy for my African sisters. Life is a struggle and they need the money and recognition just as much as the rest. Uganda 1st ever medal...big Dem up aswell!! Nuff respect to all of the runner Dem!!!
Yeah// Since Idi Amin destroyed that country, and now the ghost's of the thousands of Indian and White people are roaming the country, that the Monster murdered in cold blood, and don't forget to pay tribute to those innocent lives that were destroyed
kris singh What does Idi Amin have to do with this race?
@@krissingh3958 we don't need damn Indians in our nation, Idd Amin was right
@@krissingh3958 do not speàk what you dnt know and what has Amin gotten to do with this race.
1st 800M medal but they have won a few other medals before
I'm extremely proud of Natoya Goule, I just hope she continues to improve and defy the odds cause many people don't believe in Jamaicans in the middle distance.
@@SuperShakirawakawaka u literally just assumed he was talking about winner smh
Not gonna lie I was not expecting to see one but I am happy to see one above 400.
@@jamesphillips531 yes I appreciate it😊
@Jonny Woodburn You can see from the way she's shaking her head at 4:02 that she wasn't happy with the Ugandan's rough tactics. But like you say, you can't let those things bother you in the 800.
Needed some weights work...cant be bullied so much
What a finish from Rogers! 10 more meters and she would finish first.
But she didn't!
This is an 800m race not 810m
@@kadeembarrett686 😆😆😆😆😆 I know
Kadeem Barrett no need to get sassy, I’m sure he was just complementing how fast she was finishing! Lol 😂 get a life
@@ronnieyoung2075 lol no sass here
The celebrations is just as exciting to watch as the race..just love it.
This was so fun to watch! the victory dance at the end was a heart stealer.
I love it how Nanyondo felt happy for her teammate!
beautiful runners, beautiful celebrations.
Lol, how Eunice Sum hugged them both like her babies 😂 ❤️. Well, considering she's a former world champion, and Kenya neighbours Uganda...
Then you might like this one: Nakaayi said in an interview Faith Kipyegon is her friend and mentor and told her she can do anything. They met in competitions so it another example of how Kenyan runners are pure class.
@@jon-snow-GOT That was sweet of Nakaayi.Chepkoech and Gidey in the 5000m WR was heartwarming as well. Faith is only 26,btw
@@felistergatwiri7134 That's true Felister😂
Always weep watching these Ugandans ,love u sisters
Proudly Ugandan 🇺🇬
how did rogers have that much energy left for the kick, she was flying like it was a 400m
She sandbagged the first lap, she was over a second slower than the leaders. Her strategy isn’t terrible, but maybe she’d win more races if she went out a bit harder?
Congratulations Uganda 🇺🇬
Thank you IAAF for posting all these videos that we've been waiting for since 2019!
Proud to be a Ugandan
#Peoplepower #ourpower
#Robert_kyagulanyi
#Mission2021
all the way
Wamma bakukuleke ,it's nice to be proud of what you are.
I am too
But don't go people power, be careful the choices you make 🤷♂️
My goodness that was tactically well run by the Ugandans! It's as if they they said individually we cannot beat Wilson but if we go out hard as a team we might. Sure enough the pressure they and the Jamaican runner put on her in the last 200m was so intense - Wilson had nothing left in the last 25m. She certainly could've used the help of her teammates in fending off the charges but they were each running their own individual races (Raevyn Rogers particularly). There's a lesson here that's tactically similar to NASCAR auto racing - team drafting and team charges can take down a dominant solo leader.
Love how Nakayi snuck in in that last 200m by going inside and then out to overtake her. So good.
So happy for my Ugandan people ❤❤❤❤we done guys.Uganda is now on the map world wide because of you all
Congrats to HOUSTON'S own Raevyn Rogers and MAJOR congrats to UGANDA!!! Ase'!!
I AM JAMAICAN BUT I LOVE AFRICA MORE MY MOTHER LAND, AND I LOVE MY AFRICAN BEAUTIFUL MELANATED WOMAN LOVE THEM ALL
Then why did you pick Thompson instead of Ta Lou?
@@borood1188 He loves Thompson as an individual. Not because she's Jamaican
I have watched this 20 times now
and hope to.watch again
Wins the race and wins the celebration game. Well done African queens. And Raven Rogers out of nowhere like she only joined the race in the final 75m. She was 7th AFTER the final bend! Seemed so fresh, amazing power finish for the silver.
ALL PARTICIPANTS IS PRACTICE FULL, TECHNICAL FULL, STAMINA FULL, POWERFUL AND STRONG........
IN THIS SITUATION, WINER IS WONDERFUL.............
Is it just me that whenever I see any African lady wins an important event, my eyes tear up?
Maybe it's because my soul is 'African'.
Where are you from
One here with you
Congratulations 🎊 🎊 🎊 🎊 🎊 nonyonga and nakai for representing us oh God 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗
EXCELENTE y felicidades a Uganda. La celebración, FANTÁSTICA.
Rodger did not strike on time...
But kudos to Ugandan friend.
Raevyn Rogers: THE GREATEST KICK EVER in the history of the 800M! Another 10 feet and she would have grabbed gold!
Rayven Rogers finish was powerful
Congratulations to nakaayi!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
And Rogers! Wow! The run to get to 2nd!🔥🔥
That American girl came on to take second (Silver Medal) from seventh with a burst of Speed from nowhere! ***Wow unreal.***
Its nakaayi
I'm congolese and I love this the other ugadan girl did not even win yet do happy for her team mate this is so sweet and the best celebration I have ever seen in this olympics
love it from kinshasa DRC 🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩❤
East african women 😍
Forgotten how Wilson’s run from the gun race tactics totally backfired. Glad for Raven!
It's a tactic but the winner and the runners up were way above her level. That kick from the diminutive Ugandan had no response.
Wow i haven't see Rogers coming ! Great job ladies
This comment spoilt it for me. Haha, i am not complaining, it was so funny, she was all in the back but I kept looking at the name you used and couldn’t believe it and the finish was close already with her still being nowhere to be seen and then she zooooomed, what a finish!
Uganda will soon be a powerhouse like Kenya and Ethiopia
It is happening. Great that you called it.
Such a happy bunch those Ugandan ladies :)
Congrats Nakaayi , job well done
Where thr hell did Rodgers come from?
And once again Ajee Wilson defended her bronze medal.
GOD BLESS THE UGANDAN CELEBRATION!
Thanks for rising our country
it's great seeing a country like Uganda beat the USA HAHHAHA lol
What country are you from?
Were they on the podium?
Were they in the race?
Did they even qualify?
Have they even won a medal in 800m? A gold medal?
🤔🤔 That's what I thought 😎🇺🇸🇺🇸

Raevyn I've a fan of yours from college. You can't wait to late to break. Please fix that
Tears of joy banange🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬
Happy for Nakaayi but what on earth was Rogers doing. She seemed to have lost interest in the race until less than 100m to go and then suddenly “.. hang on, this is the world championships!!!” and she literally motors past everyone except Nakaayi.
I love my Mother África!
My Uganda waaaaauuuu, big up my clan mate nakaayi

The wonderful world of athletic comradery.
Kiganda dance from nakayi and nanyondo

We want the 3000 m women final
If Rodgers would've made her move a little earlier she would've won
