If the crowd was not totally silent before the gun went off, it should have been declared a faulty start. Also this reaction time policy of false starts should be outlawed . It should be only false start if a person actually goes before the starter pistol and not just because they react too quickly after the starter pistol was fired.
It is called anticipation....she was not reacting to the starting gun.
Nobody is trying to get disqualified so nobody is going to be trying to anticipate the starting pistol. Track races are the only sport where a genuine mistake gets you disqualified. W cannot even be sure that it is not an error in the timing equipment.
Let the events be more transparent call false starts that can be verified at least with the human eye otherwise call it faulty.

Good morning l have questioned that rule for years. My take on it l think it should not be a false start if there is no discernable movement before the gun is fired. An athlete should not be disqualified because a machine says they reacted too quickly. Just my opinion which l shared with many who agreed with my suggestion. Thanks.

As much as I love Camacho-Quinn lane 5, she did not really win that race, Amusan did. Now Williams lane 3, really false starts unfortunately Amusan lane 6 takes the blame by those inexperience Chinese starters even though the tape shows that Amusan did not move at all.
