The moment you introduce a multiverse kills your story because by the simple concept of a multiverse the characters actions mean nothing since the exact opposite result can happen in another universe. Your story has no stakes
The only multiverse plotline I liked was dragon ball's because they did it to where it wasn't just every universe is a different what if scenario with the same characters but with different looks they did it in a way to where the multiverse cannot just be used as an easy retcon/reboot device
Creating your own character with other characters abilities and cosmetics was in mk Armageddon that had more than 40 playable characters in it during the midway ( the studio that originally made mk before WB bought them and kept some of the team while others left ) day before it was gonna go bankrupt.

This is not the only reason of why MK1 sucks, but I knew what you are going to talk about, because people were talking about it since the day that this game was released. Other reasons, probably not all of them is; many bugs, broken PC and Switch ports of the game, no single player content, boring game modes, no balance, no defensive options, story that has nothing to do with the name of the game, kameos that are mandatory, no one vs one game mode, need in always-on internet connection and many other things that I probably forgot about currently.
It always bothers me how pc players get screwed over when they should be the most optimized port out of the three considering the game is developed on the pc Switch was inherently gonna be bad to begin with
@@QWONIE Yeah, as a PC player since early 2007 I can say that this is a common practice of screwing with PC players. Cause this crap were happening for decades and it still is happening. For example, back in the days when PS2 and Xbox had open world based Spider-Man 2 game, we got our own version that is ended up worse than console version in every way possible. Another big example is port of Batman Arkham Knight, that was so bad that Rocksteady had to pull it out from the sales and fix it and then re-release it. And there is many other examples of bad PC ports. Even back in late 90s and early 2000s for example, we had bad Mortal Kombat Trilogy port and bad Mortal Kombat 4 port. So yeah, I can go on and on about this for hours, but I think that these few examples is enough to prove that PC gamers were always screwed up. And then they wonder why piracy exist. This is why.

Omni-Man could easily have been given his Viltrumite outfit (pure white without the cape), and Peacemaker could have had his prison garb from the beginning of The Suicide Squad (with the helmet). But then again how much would they have charged for those?
The last act just threw a crapload of insanity at everyone. To then make the story mode costumes only unlockable through premium purchase or ridiculous grind is insane. And I don't have the patience for battle passes anymore either.

MK1 sucks for me because of the ridiculous level of excessive grind. Having to level up every character to level 15 just to officially unlock the second fatality input? Even the damn DLC characters? Used to be if you found out the button combinations they just unlocked. Not to mention the meaningless cosmetic unlocks you also get for all that effort. Oh wonderful. I just unlocked a green sai for Mileena. Oh joy. Can't wait to pair it up with the green variant of her base costume so she looks like Jade. The only excessive grind I should see in a MK game should only be found in a fatality.
MK1 basically took everything wrong with modern entertainment/gaming and dropped it on us like boom, the *multiverse* generic blund designs cringe convoluted storytelling and dear God... micro transactions. The whole thing feels overly corporate sums it up for me
MK11 was where is fell off and I already skipped Injustice 2 after MKX cause I could only see it getting worst from there. And lo and behold I was right.
You know, despite MK Armageddon being rushed and recycling a lot of content from the previous games, it feels way more complete than Mk1. There's more than one gamemode that's actually fun, a krypt, unlocking things by playing the game and even a mode where you can make your OWN character and give them a cool moveset. It amazes me how incomplete and lackluster a modern AAA game feels when even a game that was rushed back then still had more to offer.
I don't mind the gear being reduced to 1 piece. I do think it's stupid that they are slowly making skins unlockable, I mean I can only unlock dark raiden in a few days and he is my main. I also agree about the custom character idea, that should be in the game

I honestly think the story was Alright for the most part. unfortunately the rest fell short as soon as the multiverse shenanigans were put into play. Would be best if they just kept it liu kang's timeline and shang tsung's timeline.
I really didn't want to do the "Wait for WB to release every dlc and realize no one is playing so they put the game on a huge sale" strategy AGAIN (yes, i did it with Mk 11 and even Street fighter 5) but these greedy bastards are forcing my hand.
Injustice 3 will probably make you wanna pay actual money to unlock story mode. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if for every hero/villain that's in story mode, you will literally have to pay a cent for every damn round just to fight them.
Let's not forget how dogshit the PC port is. I kid you not, it takes me 10 minutes to boot up the fucking game, despite the fact that i have both a better graphics card than what's recommended, and 4 TIMES the recommended RAM. I meet or exceed all developer recommendations for pc specs in this game, and I STILL can barely play it. Also this game has no reason to be 140 Gb.
Bro MK11 was a the grindiest fighting game of all time to get 1 piece of equipement it was a chore to go through and when i saw the MK1 paywall i didn't even buy the game cause i don't want to waste my time again after MK11
Not gonna lie i didnt even look at MK1 like that. I was originally looking at all the issues i had with the sheer lack of content, lack of variation with the meta, and that godawful, creatively bankrupt story. But now? Yeah, they just didn't give a f. They expect us to be braindead enough to enjoy paying for cosmetics WE SHOULD ALREADY HAVE!!!!!. Plus Ermac is in the freaking story mode. WHY IS HE A PAID DLC CHARACTERS!!!!?
1 - The story isn’t engaging and these are not the same characters that we’ve come to know over the past 3 decades. There’s no attachment. Also many people forget that John Tobias created the lore for the franchise, not Ed Boon. 2 - It’s extremely grindy and frustrating to unlock anything. Getting rid of the Krypt was a mistake. 3 - The microtransactions are ridiculously shoved in our faces. 4 - The DLC is overpriced. 5 - I think there was going to be a kreate-a-fighter mode but it was scrapped. 6 - I don’t like the guest characters they chose. I think they would have fit better in IJ. I would have preferred more horror themed characters or video game characters.

Problem is.. it was rushed and NRS has taken the fall, repetitive combos. They need a meter that allows you to do long combos making it a chore to even look at.
The dumbest thing they did was one to make the game to be live service Yet only have two options for customisation. Like it's too much work for the developers plus it gives less content players. And less reason to come back. Let's say you have 3 skins unlocked for a character If you have only two options 3x3= 9 ways to customise your character But let's say you have 3 options 3x3x3= 27 ways to customise your character. In mk11 you had 3 gear pieces and you can choose a skin, so 4 options. 3x3x3x3=81 ways to customise your character if you have only 3 full skins unlocked . Having a skin divided into gear pieces reduces the work for the developers too Like in mk1 you make one skin , it's divided into two,(head piece (or weapon) and the body) While in mk11 it's divided into 4. So you make one skin and you get 4 different options. Also if the skin is divided, you can just make one part of it easily. It would be less work. If you're making a live service game , you need to have something to unlock that players want. Gta 5 works as a live service because they can add a functional element vehicle, weapon etc easily. While a fighting game you can only add cosmetics easily. And functional things (new moves and characters) would take a lot of time because you have to balance them too and it changes the meta completely. You could have different game modes and cosmetics that's it if you want to make mk a live service

Injustice 2 was probably the only version of the customization I've been okay with in a NetherRealm fighting game and even then it was annoying that shaders and gear was a random drop.

Yea Midway era was pretty much the golden era for the series writing. NRS is so weak at it.

Injustice 3 will probably make you wanna pay actual money to unlock story mode. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if for every hero/villain that's in story mode, you will literally have to pay a cent for every damn round just to fight them.
Went to the store today and the ultimate edition was 50% off at 70$cad... base price 175$ with taxes for a digital game is just insanity.
Let's not forget how dogshit the PC port is. I kid you not, it takes me 10 minutes to boot up the fucking game, despite the fact that i have both a better graphics card than what's recommended, and 4 TIMES the recommended RAM. I meet or exceed all developer recommendations for pc specs in this game, and I STILL can barely play it.
Also this game has no reason to be 140 Gb.
Bro MK11 was a the grindiest fighting game of all time to get 1 piece of equipement it was a chore to go through and when i saw the MK1 paywall i didn't even buy the game cause i don't want to waste my time again after MK11

I was originally looking at all the issues i had with the sheer lack of content, lack of variation with the meta, and that godawful, creatively bankrupt story. But now? Yeah, they just didn't give a f. They expect us to be braindead enough to enjoy paying for cosmetics WE SHOULD ALREADY HAVE!!!!!. Plus Ermac is in the freaking story mode. WHY IS HE A PAID DLC CHARACTERS!!!!?
They’ve always had fightable story mode npcs look at mkx,you could fight rain and sindel but they were never playable

1 - The story isn’t engaging and these are not the same characters that we’ve come to know over the past 3 decades. There’s no attachment. Also many people forget that John Tobias created the lore for the franchise, not Ed Boon.
2 - It’s extremely grindy and frustrating to unlock anything. Getting rid of the Krypt was a mistake.
3 - The microtransactions are ridiculously shoved in our faces.
4 - The DLC is overpriced.
5 - I think there was going to be a kreate-a-fighter mode but it was scrapped.
6 - I don’t like the guest characters they chose. I think they would have fit better in IJ. I would have preferred more horror themed characters or video game characters.

@@micshork well, if you look from lore perspective, 3D era did made a jot of questionable decisions (making Scorpion and Goro evil again for no reason, Onaga as villain really stupid, Mavado as character, return of Shao for no reason), but still better than whatever NRS do right now

Problem is.. it was rushed and NRS has taken the fall, repetitive combos.
They need a meter that allows you to do long combos making it a chore to even look at.
The dumbest thing they did was one to make the game to be live service
Yet only have two options for customisation.
Like it's too much work for the developers plus it gives less content players. And less reason to come back.
Let's say you have 3 skins unlocked for a character
If you have only two options
3x3= 9 ways to customise your character
But let's say you have 3 options
3x3x3= 27 ways to customise your character.
In mk11 you had 3 gear pieces and you can choose a skin, so 4 options.
3x3x3x3=81 ways to customise your character if you have only 3 full skins unlocked .
Having a skin divided into gear pieces reduces the work for the developers too
Like in mk1 you make one skin , it's divided into two,(head piece (or weapon) and the body)
While in mk11 it's divided into 4. So you make one skin and you get 4 different options.
Also if the skin is divided, you can just make one part of it easily. It would be less work.
If you're making a live service game , you need to have something to unlock that players want.
Gta 5 works as a live service because they can add a functional element vehicle, weapon etc easily.
While a fighting game you can only add cosmetics easily. And functional things (new moves and characters) would take a lot of time because you have to balance them too and it changes the meta completely.
You could have different game modes and cosmetics that's it if you want to make mk a live service

Injustice 2 was probably the only version of the customization I've been okay with in a NetherRealm fighting game and even then it was annoying that shaders and gear was a random drop.

This is in basically every NRS game like what's the point of putting cyrax and sektor in MK 11 giving them movesets and making them unplayable
Cyrax and Sektor used recycled stuff from Triborg in MK11, though. They didn’t had own unique moveset there
