  • Life after Bypass Surgery | Precautions To Be Taken After Heart Bypass Surgery
In order to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from CABG, a lot of lifestyle changes should be made, which includes taking the proper medication, saying no to smoking, eating healthy food, regular physical activities, and follow up visits with the doctor.
Dr. A. R. Krishna Prasad, Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon, has covered the following question in the video:
-What should a patient do after going home?
As you reach home take off the dressing and in the morning have a bath immediately dry the wound with a clean and dry cloth, apply a betadine solution/ointment/powder
Things that can be done as reading newspaper, watching television
-What are the things to be taken seriously?
Not putting pressure on the Chest, not be doing bending down, lifting weights, not going in flights for 1 month
    -When to visit a consultant?
When you’re feeling heavy pain or a discharge coming from a wound you should visit a consultant because you need some antibiotics and some kind of preventive measures.
-What are the precautions to be taken?
Use the bandage to legs for at least 1 month so that there should be no swelling
Having a shower with warm water with adding an antiseptic as Dettol or betadine
-Why heart pain happens after heart surgery?
During the operation, when the doctor takes a vein from the leg. It's like a spare part even though the spare part was also doing a good job as taking blood and flowing towards the heart suddenly when they take it out there will be a fluid accumulation that is the reason for swelling and heart pain.
-What are the common problems after heart surgery?
Fever, cold, heart pain, shoulder pain, back pain Etc
    -What Drugs/Medicine to be taken?
If you have a fever or a cold you can take Dolo 650, Paracetamol, and Antibiotics to dry the wound

Thank you doctor. I am waiting 18 days for my bypass surgery. I am weak and tired most days and feel a bit nauseous. I have no heart damage but the artery behind my heart is 100% occluded. Heat Cath failed for a stent. I am told the surgeon will fix my Afib and a few other things. I have watched a open heart surgery so I know what to expect! I am , as you say, anxious about aftercare at home! You make me feel better about my biggest concern.

    • @lmonnette4037
      @lmonnette4037 2 года назад +5

I wanted to update that my surgeon did a Triple Bypass and Afib Ablation. When I got back to the critical care room my ung collapsed! Took four hours to stabilize me. I stayed 7 days. Started out with 15 liters of oxygen and wanted myself off by the 7 th day. The surgeon was impressed with my tenacity! For women facing surgery go to
Amazon or a bra specialty shop and buy a couple of post surgery bras. If you are big busted the surgeon will want you to wear a bra 24/7 the first few months till incision is healed. To not wear one may pull the incision apart. Be vigilant in doing things for yourself. When you get home do not sweep, vacuum, scrub floors or do any pulling and/or over ten pounds! I tried once and was in pain for two hours!!!!!
Have the family do laundry and housework the first six weeks. It’s your time to heal and just start the walking routine.
You will do great with perseverance and determination!
The hardest thing for me was the collapsed lung. If I have asthma issues it still can hurt that lung to cough.
      Good luck y’all!
