I am glad to hear things are going so well for you. You are approaching recovery in a very smart and logical manner. I look forward to your videos as you build up your strength again.
I am 3 weeks post surgery. Your videos have been so helpful for me. I’m sure we (bypass recipients) all worry that we are the only ones with the various issues associated with the surgery. Thank you
Lookin much improved. Keep up the good work and listen to the doctors and nurses. I am having issues too, so I need to improve my exercise regimen. My last horsepistol stay was for breathing problems. I was in for the 8 days before Christmas in '23 with covid and pneumonia. Then a few weeks later I was back in again with breathing problems. They put me on a diuretic and after 7 days of all kinds of med changes and the diuretic they told me they drew 22 lbs. of fluid out of me, and that my problem was caused by the fluids in me, which were pressing against my lungs. I am on the mend. Now that spring has sprung, and the weather is getting warmer and dryer, I am fixin to go fishing and bowfishing. MMM Catfish is good. God is Gooder. Cheers. PS I have been hoping to find someone to trade stories with and I think you are my new friend. 🤠
It seems like you are recovering very quickly. A word of caution though. I'm a CV-ICU nurse in the States. Be very very careful trying to shoot a bow. If you do that before your sternum has had a chance to fully heal, you could cause major problems. If you pull the sternal wires through your sternum, it is going to be a major issue for you. That's another surgery and it's going to really mess with your archery. Please be careful.
Definitely small steps Steven, please remember the bits on the surface may look healed, but on the inside they say takes 3 times longer. You've got lots of time were not going any where, all the best man...
I see it getting better and better and I am happy about it. I am learning important tips for us from your comments and videos, thank you for that. Don't be discouraged by minor pains, heart diseases are serious problems, of course it may take some time to heal. I wish you a full recovery as soon as possible.
U r looking so much better now Steven from where u were a month ago. I always think about the big picture down the road. We've had over 70" of snow this winter & I've been able to tough it out thinking about the 1st week of June here. Small steps & a setback is unthinkable. 8 years ago in a March I hurt my left shoulder in the joint by turning off my alarm clock the wrong way. Took me 5 months to get rid of the pain doing water therapy in my lake nearby. I still had to work that whole time & I'll never forget it. I've been taking it slow with my new year recurve project. B4 the weekend I should have my new medium 68 Nika N3 44 lb carbon limbs. Everything is going well. God speed. 🙏
I had open heart surgery twice an had my valve replaced twice tgey use pig heart valve so i kno whst ur going tgru nothing anyone can understand untill your chest is cut open with 12 inch scar in middle of ur chest i wish you the best in ur healing
The pain will gradually get better and the important aspect is remaining active and listening to what your body is telling you. My hiking got better every week and I remained active everyday for the whole first year… Steven your doing great…we are all different but having that dedication to get better is key…try sleeping on your back brother…I know it’s a pain in the ass but it will help the healing…it did for me…Archery was my goal - hang in there and put a very low poundage bow into your daily routine- even ifs it’s only a low amount of shots…great to see you doing better brother
One thing I like about these videos is how positive you are with the whole deal, you might not think so but it's inspirational. Personally I reckon there comes a point where you have to push things, for example the flexibility in your arms/chest, but if you listen to your body & don't mask it with painkillers you'll know where the limits are. Better for slow progress than overreaching and going backwards, something you can easily do it you're on painkillers. I'm looking forward to that video with the 50+ lb recurve !
Very pleased to see your recovery. My uncle passed thru the same process 7 years ago and one year after se was bettter than when he was 30 (is now 56). You'll fully recover and be better than ever. Cannot say the same about how you'll shoot because you never shot great 😁 just kidding. Hope to see you shooting soon. Keep it strong 💪 Best regards from Portugal.
Thanks for both the updates, and for walking us through it so we know what to expect when our day comes. What do you think the chances are of yourself, Jimi Ellis and myself hanging out and shooting for a day are? Jimi took up air guitar and but his bow down LOL
Hi there....this is a rare insight....i have similar age and similar fitness going in.......I am almost on 7 weeks.....still finding breathing tricky on hills and walking over 5,5 km p/h Hope this is not a problem It would be great to hear a subsequent video with further indications of outcomes. (hope you are in good health) Thanks for the video. Geoff
You look good Steve!Just take it one day at time, I know I had a mountain bike accident and punctured my lung and had concussion and torn rotater cuff, it took me more than year to heal and start shooting again, drink lots of water and take lots of vitamin C ,wish you all best can't wait tell you start reviewing bows again!
You're looking much better and obviously your fitness before your problems is speeding up your recovery, be careful on the poundage you go for, you do not want to undo all the good work. Otherwise Rock on!
I used gymnastic rings suspended from a pull up bar to increase my draw weight and might be a good way for you to rehabilitate your archery muscles. By crossing the straps you add an across the chest motion to the pull, simulating the archery pull. I think it might be better than drawing a child's bow because the crossed ring plank rows are symmetric, are better for gradual progression, can be done at a speed and rep count that is challenging yet below your pain threshold, and will increase strength and endurance with less risk of injury in my opinion. For example, if you have an unanticipated let down on a compound bow, you could injure your rotator cuff. Start with the rings above door knob level, knees bent, lower reps, and fewer sets. Progress with more reps, more sets, lowering the rings for more body weight, pause at top of pull, slow let down to trigger muscle hypertrophy, and then straight leg full plank. Then once stronger, add push ups and pull ups. Avoid testing yourself drawing too much weight too fast because an injury would be a big set back. At age 60, I went from 4 pull ups to 40 pull ups in a row in 6 months, avoiding injury. Went from 40 lbs draw weight to 60+ lbs with far less effort. At our ages, there is risk for sarcopenia unless muscles are exercised. You probably have significant muscle atrophy from the time off of archery and post operative recovery. You should also try daily whey protein shakes while you are strength training. You will probably just jump right into archery, but there are better and safer ways to build back your strength.
The cough is likely from blood pressure meds…especially lisinopril is a culprit. (Triple by-pass survivor) killed an elk with rifle at nine weeks post surgery.
Get some surgical tubing, tie some string on it for the release hook. One tube or two at first. Home made strength builder u can pull on it anywhere. Don’t need a bow.
How long did it take for your sternum to feel better and the clicking to stop? I'm 7 weeks post-op right now, I'd love to hear more about your healing process. Thank You Sir
Greetings Steve from Roseland, Virginia, USA. I am so happy that you are recovering quickly. Wishing you only good things.

I wish you health and success later in your life and back to the sport you love, from me Yoram Steiner Israel.
You are looking better than you did on the earlier videos.

CABGx4 here. Glad you’re better.
thank you

Looking good mate, you should be right for another 40 years now.

Looking so much fitter Steven, small steps bud.

I know what you mean about that left shoulder hurting. It's really scary bc I was thinking it's my heart. But it was from being torn open lol.
Watch you start slamming the bullseye with the kids bow and you win the states with it😂. Glad you’re improving💪
Cannot hear the RUclips very well at all. I have had ( 8 weeks ago) four artery bypass open heart surgey and still can't taste much !!
Remember kids bows 15 lbs is still like lifting 15 lbs 7.5 kilo or so.
Especially if on the top side of the comfort level. Good luck
BUT, DID YOU GET that vaccinium?
