    My mother found out she had this congenital heart defect, PAPVR, when she was 75 years old! She went ahead and had the surgery and has done great since.... She is a pretty healthy 81 year old, by the grace of God! Thank you for sharing your story, Amy.

    Amy I saw you were having heart surgery and I prayed but didn't think much beyond that until Sept 10 when I was told unexpectedly out of the blue I would be having open heart surgery in 3 days. I am so grateful God gave us both 2nd chances at the second half of our lives. God Bless You!! (and Me.)

    Having open heart surgery was the scariest time of my life - and I’m a cancer survivor! It’s been almost 18 months since my life saving surgery and I’m still not quite back to normal. My legs are so weak that if I’m on the floor, I can’t get up I unassisted. I still tire somewhat easily. It’s been a long road.

      Hang in there. You are not alone. I had breast cancer surgeries in 2016 and just in September had a CABG surgery. I've turned to a plant based diet and have more energy and through cardiac rehab, am gaining strength and stamina back. On top of this, I'm going through a career change since there is no work available in my field. Life is definitely a long road. If you are able to hire a personal trainer who specializes in a rehabilitative approach, even for just three times or so, it could be worth your investment. Peace and best of luck to you.

    I am 13 days out of modified Bentall procedure with konect bovine tissue valve. Was in great shape when I went in with minimal damage and classified as Stage C: A Symptomatic. I am 60 years old and made the decision to surgery one year after the diagnosis of severe aorta valve stenosis. Took me that long to get my nerve up. I was working, I felt great, what the heck? Third opinion I said let's do it because I didn't want the recovery to be ridiculously long and/or my heart to be irreversibly damaged by my own hand because of my cowardness. The first week out of general anesthesia is NO JOKE and it does hurt. I've been home for three day and begin warfarin tomorrow evening for three months. Feeling very good.

      The main thing I want to do is shout out a HUGE thank you to all the Docs ( and all ancillary healthcare peeps) out there who were bestowed the acumen, had the drive, dedicated a huge portion of their life, committed to the LONG process , LONG hours, give up having a ‘normal’ 9-5 life, and are willing to save somebody’s life at any time. Forgive me for this: "Waking in a panic, forgetting to breathe, migrating to the couch in irrational fury and shame, tasting your name in a whisper, flexing our compromises out of my shoulders and fingers..." For me, it was mitral-valve prolapse, resulting hospital lobbying and punishment. Intubation and open-heart surgery isn't very good for a singer. I'm glad you made it through.

    I had surgery for PAPVR at 57 on Friday 13th August 2021. I know, open heart surgery on Friday 13th what was I thinking?! I watched this video a week or so before I went in and it helped, The thing the doctors are curious about is whether I will feel better post op. I'm a cyclist and it's not unusual for me to ride 100 miles in one day. I have always felt the same without symptoms until I noticed some very high heart rate readings through my chest strap heart rate monitor. The aim now is to get back to full fitness in the following 12 months, building up slowly. So will my rides become less tiring? Only time will tell

    • @thefairweathercyclist6521
      @thefairweathercyclist6521 2 года назад

      @@jasonmiller7360 Sure, so after 6 weeks I developed a tachycardia and had a resting HR of 130 bpm. Went on beta blockers to control it but fortunately it returned to normal by itself after a month. Started riding again 3 months after surgery and built it up slowly to a point where I’m now doing regular 50-60 mile rides with plenty of hills. The aim is to do a 100 mile ride next month and a harder 125 miles within a year of having the surgery. Apart from the tachycardia and prolonged chest pain the recovery has been really good

      Thanks for the response.
      I’m scheduled for surgery for a heart defect that was recently discovered I’m 57 and have always been active.
      I have an Aberrant right coronary artery.
      Appreciate your story and it gives me confidence.
      Were you able to come off beta blockers?? Any other medication that you need to take??
      So, I guess your back to normal, correct?
      Thanks again

    • @thefairweathercyclist6521
      @thefairweathercyclist6521 2 года назад +1

      @@jasonmiller7360 Best of luck for the surgery, recovery takes time and it drags but it does get better, just bear this in mind. I’m on the lowest dose beta blocker probably as a precaution to the tachycardia I experienced. Also on blood thinners to protect against a stroke. Most heart surgery patients take something like this for the same reason. I’m 8 months out and I’d say over 95% back to normal. Just a tight chest but I like to sleep on my front so I’m sure it’s down to that
