Couple weeks ago passing Grandview going East on hwy 1, I was in the "passing" lane but it was full, just following the person in front. The woman behind me was tailgaiting hard and seemed furious (I hadn't cut her off, she drove up behind me). So she drives through the shoulder to the HOV on ramp to try to pass, of course she couldn't see if anyone was coming down the ramp and they WERE so she squeezes between me and the car coming down the ramp to pass...all of us inches apart...and then ends up one car ahead after nearly causing an accident. I think she was mentally ill.

5:10 On Miller and Russ Baker Way where the white Porsche SUV ran a Red, the Silver Porsche was in a lane that can only go straight. So he wasn't really camped out, he was right not to go through a red when he was in a lane that could go only straight. Going left on Miller can only take you to Cessna Road which is where the Old Delta Hotel used to be.

I can deal with the snow and can drive without fear when there are few other drivers out and about. (Note: I have been driving for 48 years with no tickets and no accidents.) However, I very wisely stay at home or take transit when it snows because it's all these crazy drivers whom I fear the most.

@@vancouversworstdrivers happens quite a lot. If it's a single lane and the car you are following is deciding to turn you shouldn't go around them because if they change their mind and decide to go straight or turn the opposite way, you would be 100% at fault because you were following the vehicle and not leading. An ICBC adjuster told me that once. Because as you know, some drivers in front of you can be so reckless but more reason as to why you shouldn't go around them of they are in the lead. That would most likely be a fail in a driving exam.

People in vans are just unhappy they have so many kids they are stuck with a minivan. I hated mine. Now when my husband and I are out in our convertible we laugh at the minivans trying to race us. Your turn will come. Calm down.

The MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices) that Canada just adapted from the USA's MUTCD is extremely flawed, you combine that with bad drivers its a recipe for disaster. I wish we follow the Vienna Convention for road safety which is more or less the international standard, and not just adopt American standards blindly, for example Canada is the only country using the strange speed limit signs apart from the USA who invented it, everywhere else in the world is the standard red circle with the limit in the middle. In the UK, a signatory into the vienna convention, they always have both arrows painted onto the road and signs instead of relying ONLY on signs to tell the driver this is a turn lane or this is a thru lane so theres no chance of missing the message, very dangerous if its one way street and you dont notice it. Pedestrian signal phases are always separate for vehical phases at traffic lights in the UK, and they also have unidirectional lane change restrictions, such as near a motorway slip road where cars are merging on and off, the left lanes are prohibited on changing to the right lane because that could conflict with merging traffic but the otherway around is permitted; or near an exit, there would be double white lines to prohibit people from cutting across all the lanes to exit at the last minute. Double white lines are a lot more effective than the single whites, which people ignore all the time, they make you think "twice" before crossing it. I have driven extensively both in the UK, Germany, Hong Kong (engineering also based on UK standards) and in US/Canada, and have a lot of experience after years working with and studying traffic engineering manuals and standard practices between North America and the UK/Europe and find that the standards in US/Canada a lot worse or "dangerous" than those in the UK or Europe. I feel a lot safer and confident when driving on a British or a German road compared to a Vancouver or New York road. Crash statistics also seem to confirm the flaws of the MUTCD design methadology. Heres an interesting bit of trivia - your standard 4way traffic light controlled intersection has 32 deadly Points of Conflict, compared to just 8 at a similar roundabout intersection which is way underutilised in Canada.

Snowtires only work if you can drive. They are of no use to BC drivers, the absolute worst most ignorant ballbags to get behind the steering wheel,on clear roads, through in a little snow and its anarchy. It might help if roads were plowed, but this is BC and there is not nor will there ever be enough plows, they ll just put the onus on the drivers(who cant drive)and the monopoly they call ICBC will use these minor snow events as an excuse to raise everybodys insurance rates(actually rates go up every year snow or no snow)

6:10 I call that an "unmasking." When you can sense too much tailgating going ahead of you, and the last in line suddenly moves and unmasks the ass end of the car. I try to keep two car lengths away from the car in front, who ever is behind me can go suck it. Also, I'd like to state that Nokian Nordman WG4 tires are amazing. Just put them on your cars and leave them. Sports cars, etc., will have to change as necessary. But, all other cars? Just use the Nokians. (Not an ad, we're just fans of a great product).
And HOLY SHIT. The lack of turn signals, no tail lights on in bad weather AND the dark makes absolutely insane. Seriously want to rochambo some people... gadamnit.

Should I also not record my speed from the dashcam GPS like everybody seems to be doing?
I mean, I don't drive like a lunatic but obviously, I'm not always under the speed limit. I was wondering if in case of a crash, even if the other driver is wrong, my footage can "void" my evidence if I'm above the speed limit.

Yes! this is a massive Canadian problem as Ontario is the same. Lane discipline sucks. The reason German gets away with not having speed limits on autobahns is because everyone stays in the right lane unless they are passing someone. That whole clip is a cluster fuck - Zhen in the fast lane, minivan moving straight over into the fast lane even though there is noone to overtake.

I know this is a bit of an older video BUT I just had to say this...when I moved to then what was known as the GVRD, I came from the east...WINNIPEG! Now this prairie KNOWS how to drive in the snow. Still remember coming out of a store on Grandview highway one evening with about an inch is slishy goodness on the roads. Sure the air temp was cold enough but the ground temp meant the slush was melting so I felt the road with the go pedal and brake pedal and just thought...eh feels like rain type stuff so off I go 60 on Grandivew to highway 1...100Kph there...and everyone else thought the world was gonna end...slow....timid everything! Sigh, Vancouverites...spend a bit more time in the snow and learn how to feel what's goin on under your damn tires for once!

@@vancouversworstdrivers in a sense...yeah...BUT I'll temper that comment with...usually the first dump or two when I lived in Winnipeg was usually wet and heavy (perfect snowman making snowfall) since the temperature would be similar to what happens here for the most part. That said however it's inexcusable for people here to NOT know how to drive in show...for cryin out loud this is Canada...it DOES snow here!
