2:00 DONT change virtual memory to however much RAM you have in your system. This ensures your OS does not run out of real memory but the process of swapping the data in your RAM to a physical drive and v.v is slow AF and causes a noticeable reduction in performance. Just set ist to auto or disable this feature.
@@TheoChapman20 VRAM would cause the games to run choppier, have stutters and sudden frame drops because of spawing the data... trust me I have a master degree in informatics and kinda a freak when it comes to gaming ;) VRAM is a old technique from when RAM and diskspace was expensive... nowadays u dont need it anymore

I tried this just now, and I’m not sure if it worked for sure but my game didn’t crash immediately like some other people have said they experienced. In fact, Alyx just loaded instantly (aside from the forced waiting of the valve cinematic). I progressed through the level I was on (it was the 4th chapter, so no spoilers please!) I’ll test it with Lone Echo tonight, and I will try to keep this comment updated for future generations! I’ve emailed back and forth with both Ready at dawn (the dev of lone echo) AND Oculus, but neither team was ever able to diagnose the issue. I’ve literally gone so far as to clean install windows on three different machines with two different headsets and the problem has persisted through it all. Update: Lone Echo doesn’t like whatever I’ve got going on, but Alyx is working now. I think Alyx crashed twice, but each time it crashed it was right after a save, and both times it didn’t crash at the same spot again.
Half life Alyx keeps crashing for me and steamVR will sometimes boot up fine but other times it will lag like hell and crash before I can even open a game. Hopefully these tips help
Worked for me. My games were on a different drive to C and windows had only allowed C drive a paging file. I hadn't noticed, but since I allowed my games drive a paging file no more Steam crashes mid play.
Worked for Quest 2 airlink, was trying to launch skyrim, but after about 30 seconds fps dropped way below 1 and had to close vr from computer. Now I just have to fix some performance issues! Edit: started crashing again during the intro cutscene... it seems to be running fine on the computer, but on headset it is frozen

Try downloading Aida64 and performing a stress test to check the temperature of your CPU / GPU under 100% stress, it sounds like you dont have good airflow in your case and your computer thermal throttles and auto shuts down to protect the hardware
@@MrLetsfifa12 I forgot to respond, I did do this. The temperatures are really good all the time. Even under stress tests. They are very low. So it's definitely not that. And my computer does not turn off during stress tests. It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with the pc itself either because when I benchmark it I get great results and it won't turn off. It's only in games, but it's in such weird places in games too. This one game would crash my computer everytime I went on the menu and clicked "medals" and other games will only crash my pc when for example a new map loads sometimes. Or sometimes when I tap out and tab in fast. And steam vr will only ever crash my pc when steam vr crashes and I click restart steam vr
@@real-cr3qo hmm well, at least you know it’s not the problem, I hope you stress tested all the individual key components separately, such as the GPU, CPU and RAM. But since you say you have then at least you know nothing is thermal throttling and it won’t cause damage to your parts. Have a look at GeForce Experience and make sure you have the latest drivers installed. If you have played with the Oculus Debug tool, reset all the values to default, you might have set one of them to something higher than your pc can run perhaps, or to a value that doesn’t make much sense. If you use Steam VR go to settings and check the resolution, keep it at default (100% in my case). Otherwise it sounds like a driver error so maybe go to your content manager and right click all the drivers and click “check for updates” I can’t think of much else to be honest, worst case scenario try reinstall Windows by going to your Windows settings and going to “Update & Security” and inside you will find a Windows reset option or reinstall option, I believe you can keep all your existing files.

It has only gotten worse and worse as well. But the first time it happened was with vr. I remmeber I put up the resolution on max in steam vr just to see what would happen. And it crashed my pc. I might acrually reinstall windows once I get home from vacation. I even Uninstalled steam to see if that would fix anything. Obviously it did not. Half Life Alyx was what caused me to make this video, Steam Home would be completely fine though, it would just be the game. All I know is when I did everything in this video the game stopped crashing - it sounds like yours may be a hardware issue, is your PC powerful enough?
The paging file is a portion of your storage the system uses as ram. By default windows will automatically address its dimensions based on what it needs, but storage is slow af compared to ram and when you need more space than whats available games crashes. By increasing the size you avoid it to run out of space and thus the need to "slowly" rewrite the file. There's no real need to set it to the same amount of ram (you can have 16GB of ram and a 40GB paging file) but you will lose an equal amount of memory on your drive. Also setting 2 equal values will prevent the file to be rewritten entirely avoiding additional wear on the drive (in his case 16000 - 16000)
whenver the games crash in vr, does your monitor not detect any signal from your gpu and do you have to shut off your pc and turn it back on again? Thats whats happening to me whenever I try to load up Asseto Corsa. Also whenever that happens my oculus link disconnects too even though Im using cable. (I'm on quest 2) I have no idea who to talk to to fix this
For me it was a game issue, it would freeze and lock up, and eventually force quit. But not lock up my PC. I would follow the video instructions, but I have an oculus rift s, so I’m not sure about the quest.
@@aosimple1635 yes i actually did while back. if i remember correctly i think it was my shaders and post processing that did it. you either have to have shaders at .60 (i think that's the number? I can edit it) or below or turn off post processing. i would try turning off post processing and revert the shaders just to give you the biggest chance of success, then you can fix it after that. good luck
you installed the beta SteamVR? because Half Life Alyx would crash all the time, until I did these steps, then it ran perfectly. Im sorry if it didn't help, but this is what worked for me
I have 64, I did 6000 and 60000, save an extra 4 gigs just in case it uses all of it, I'd prob do 6000, 120000, double the 4 gigs. Are you running in quad channel by the way? I was going to do 128 GB, but I was able to get 64 for like 240 bucks, four sticks of 32 would have cost a lot more, I wish the 12900k supported quad channel memory so I can get 8 16 GB sticks lol

Is 16 ram the minimum? I only have 7.9 should that work?
idk if having 8 (7.9) gigabytes of ram would even work to be honest. If it does it will probably be very choppy. I'd suggest upgrading
