It's one thing to play the notes spot on. It's another to match the tone and the feel of the music. This guy is incredible.
I've been around for a lot of years seen a lot of bands trying to cover Eddie's playing. Not have even been close to this

The key to playing VH is being loose while accurate. Ummm, yeah, you got it. After years of metal I had to go back to VH because my playing was too tight. You are nailing playing loose. Awesome to watch.
Exactly, you need to swing while hitting the right notes and chords. EVH was anything but a buttoned-up, precise, locked-step guitarist. I think of Eric Johnson as a fantastic talent who is far more obsessively precise, which has its own advantages and beauty.
@@agraulich2009 Yeah Eddie's rhythm playing was a thing of beauty. I always thought of Vito Bratta as what a more technical, polished version of Eddie would sound like. Great guitar playing, but not as loose and care free as Eddie.
Thats because ed grew up playing with a real drummer, not a machine, and developed his feel over the billions of hours jammin with big al. Those two had it.
@@carlosmatos9848 Underrated comment. 👏🏼Ed gets so many props for his solos, lead guitar, that people forget how incredible a rhythm guitarist he was.
@@agraulich2009both Alex and Eddie were trained classical pianists and their father was a Jazz musician. They both had precision and swing drilled into their technique early on.

I’ve seen many covers, almost everybody stays still in order to focus on the intro notes, but this man nails it with swagger, he’s damn good.
Sit down to record and play over and over until its absolutely perfect?.....then record yourself dancing around making it look effortlessly, but you're not actually recording during the video shoot.. Lots of RUclipsrs do it this way.
@@4fit816 If he wasn't recording while playing there would be no point in those transitions he has between the clean and distorted riffs

You make no sense.
You either record your video at the SAME time as your recording the audio..or separately (well you dont record anything lol)
This upload, its obvious they were done separately....absolutely nothing wrong with it. Makes it more entertaining. We all know it was him that recorded it.

@@4fit816I doubt you could do it so perfectly even sitting still, and it would be even harder to match every finger placement perfectly with the audio recording than to just try doing it in one go.

I was watching a tutorial which went over this but slowly and never at full pelt so I got bored and clicked on this thumbnail. I have given up my idea of learning this in honour of EVH because man you make this 60yo guitarist want to quit. When I was your age I couldn''t attempt this if I tried. Self Taught, can't read music and will never have the patience or skills like you do my young dude. Well done, you nailed it and EVH would be more than happy. Oh this is from 2013? I can't imagine what you have achieved since this upload. Me I'm learning to play piano now, a lifetime ambition. Thanks for a terrific performance of a legendary guitarist RIP EVH. He's a good player but there's plenty of good players out there that can cover songs well. Creating something good and original of his own is what will set him apart.

To everyone thinking this is sped up, take a gander at 3:27 where the whammy bar seems to be quite normally swinging. If this was sped up, the whammy bar would've been faster than it's normal state.

I think they got tricked into thinking its sped up...because the video wasn't recorded when doing the recording, and it seemed off in spots (especially at the beginning) . Video was done after.
