    Unreal, best I've ever heard, literal note for note perfection. One of the reasons it's so good is that this guy has great rhythm, it's one of the things Eddie preached, he said you have to have a sense of rhythm even when you are playing lead.

      There are training techniques to improve that issue of focus. We will learn something n then play it as fast as possible. While using all the techniques. Then you can slow it down and really think. Another technique i would do. Is lay flat on my back and look at the ceiling and play till i dont make a mistake. If you can play something laying down like that? Its mastered.

    Jacob, old video, but I must say this. I NEVER...I mean I NEVER log in and comment on youtube vids - this is literally the very first time I am doing so. As a lifelong rock, prog and overall lover of guitar music [as well as being a closet guitarist], I can honestly say that, while there is no shortage of good quality Van Halen cover videos on youtube, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that yours are quite simply the most accurate, most polished, most tone-accurate and most importantly, most magically feel-good when listening.
    Any Van Halen fan worth a damm just can't help but agree.
    Perhaps the most elusive part to emulate of EVH's playing has always been his tone - that "brown" sound he made so famous. It is just astounding that you have captured it in spades.
    From a technical guitar playing perspective, there is absolutely nothing to say about your skills other than you've GOT IT. You've got it all. In the case of EVH, what really amazes me is how well you not only understand his incredible rhythm playing but also how well you have emulated it. Another element of EVH's playing was his fantastic use of sonic dynamics, something again you clearly understand and use perfectly.
    When you stop to consider how many thousands, hundreds of thousands of guitar players around the world who have labored over the decades to try and truly replicate EVH's tone, well, it's clear there's a new kid on the block :)
    Not much more to say Jacob. Brilliant. Simply brilliant on every imaginable criteria that actually matters.
    I have been a fan of EVH since the late 70s when they first broke. Musically, my own idol and muse is Satriani, while EVH appears to be yours. Build from EVH and find your own voice. Actually, your fellow Canadian Alex Lifeson is who first inspired me to pick up the guitar.
    I initially found you on the EVH gear chat show and was intrigued to see someone as young as you speak so passionately about music that originated nearly 2 generations before you were born. Overall, today's music is...ahem...you know what I mean.
    Your parents cannot be commended enough for feeding and encouraging you. Cherish them.
    Stay the course Jacob. Follow your dreams and your heart. Keep building on that tone and FEEL in your playing. Shredding 64th note triplets at 200bpm is interesting and to be admired, but really only from a clinical, technical perspective.
    Create MUSIC Jacob. Expand your musical horizons. Don't be 100% genre locked - embrace QUALITY MUSIC from EVERY field.
    As a remarkable musician at such a tender young age, if you really manage to soak up a huge variety of playing styles, there likely is no limit to how far you can go.
    cheers and all the best to you in your bright future...
    -mariusar

We've become so used to the genius of EVH and those songs over the years we take for granted what amazing precision and feel it took to play them. If I were putting a band together with the best young folks on RUclips, this young man would be first in line to play lead guitar. He's 16 for the love of God! And with that feel! Awesome job Jacob. @oPosiidon2800 6 лет назад +1

      Scott May yeah, but let's be real here (im a huge SRV fan) Eddie was/is beyond SRV in terms of technicality. Another point is SRV was on Cocaine at the time he did Texas flood at El Mocambo lmao, increasing his godness to like 4 trillion, I'm not discrediting him but surely it was a factor. Sure Eddie played like 3 scales and has similar tapping licks but his understanding of music is just... 😚 (imagine me kissing my fingers right here like the Italians when they present beautiful food). His timing, most definitely what people don't credit him enough for- riff writing, and of course his recognizable solos. Then again they are two different genres so who knows, all I know is I like both of em and they both play equally difficult songs in there respective genres.

    Pretty fantastic job! As an old dude, I think the thing to remember is NO ONE was doing this stuff like Eddie was at the time...harmonics, chord progressions, etc. That's what makes EVH a king. This vid proved a young buck could master things (25 years later) I personally could not at his age back in the day trying to decipher what the master was laying down. Well done.

    • @NateB1976

      T Frensdorf He gets that Van Halen sound by cranking up the volume to 10 on that Marshall head. That's bad ass a 1amp Marshall head. Plus that guitar is rare too. An HM Stratocaster. Fender only made them in the 90's. I usually practice on this mini Marshall stack that takes a 9volt battery. Can take it anywhere, camping, picnic where ever. Tiny little replica of the Marshall stack. Need to get a new one actually.

    • @TFrensdorf
      @TFrensdorf 10 лет назад

      Nate Brenneman I need to get a new amp, had to sell the ones I had and a few guitars to pay bills got hit hard but it's all good I will get a new amp one day. I also have a mini Marshal amp lol don't play with it much because it's just really old and has a few issues.

    • @NateB1976
      @NateB1976 10 лет назад

      Yeah I traded my Marshall mini to Kooter K along with a Fender squire 2 Stratocaster. But the nice late 80's Korean model that has the really skinny neck and low action(the one that's most counterfeited as a 70's Strat). Plus a few pedals and everything you need so a complete rig for some nice vape gear. Even thru in a custom leather strap I made. Might just have to see if one shows up where you live😊. But currently going vintage in gear for vintage sound. Using a VOX 54watt pathfinder as practice amp and a Randall 200 watt for jamming with drums and party type gigs. It doesn't have any gain just meat and potatoes powerhouse!!! Use my pedals for FX. But if I played a great place with nice PA I'd just mic off my VOX and run that because that sound with my pedals is so wicked!!! So classic sounding. Just don't make them like that anymore...

    • @NateB1976
      @NateB1976 10 лет назад

      Forgot to say what I'm playing thru those vintage amps. Vintage type guitars but newer in year. Have 2 Fender Telecaster's. Ones a Telecaster custom with dual Duncan design fat single coil pickups. Almost like the P90's that's on Gibson guitars(look like humbuckers so fat). Selector switch on top(not bottom) and dual volume/tone knobs on the bottom really low. Think is a 1991 year model. The other I got for Xmas. It's a Special Edition Telecaster 2011 model sold as new.FSR MF black top (to be precise) with dual chrome covered fat single coils. Again look like hummers almost. A reversed selector switch/knob set up on the bottom. It goes volume, tone, selector switch when it's usually the other way around. Nice chrome (or maybe it's all just super polished metal but think it's chromed out) piece under knobs/selector. Same with bridge. Even has a gold anodized metal pick guard. The back is cut out like a Stratocaster instead of being completely flat like most Tele's. Rosewood finish on an ash body. Such a beauty and sounds so nice... Then for my true metal guitar I have an old Dean vx V with dual active EMG pickups. Sunburst design that's slightly faded so looks nice and sounds very heavy. Of course it has the V headstock with Grover metal tuners. Basically someone completely restored it. Was hard up for cash cause I bought it from the owner at Music Room Guitars(local vintage music store, guitars, basses, amps, everything in between, books and killer vinyl selection too) for just a hair under $200!!! The pickups are worth that.lol! Those EMG's just drop on the bottom end it's like knocking on devil's door 😈!!!

    I wasn't sure if Jacob was actually playing. The fade in at the beginning sounded too close, and the tone is way too close to EVH's. However, I A/B'd it with the original intro, and the original intro is not what we hear here. Finger movements look spot on, the double stops at the end of the intro sound different enough, and the feedback/dive bomb is not the original.
    CONCLUSION: Holy crap!
    My only complaint is we hear too much of the original song during the main part.
    P.S. I remember wanting one of these Fender Super Strats when I was his age. Now I'm old and I poop on myself.

      +Grok Make Truk Come on. The kid is obviously crazy talented as well as self taught. Are you really going to imply that he's faking the intro? You sound like an idiot if you are!

    • @grokmaektruk5974
      @grokmaektruk5974 8 лет назад +5

      I've seen some fancy guitar "finger-miming" in my 30 years of playing guitar. Yes, I'm implying someone can mime this. Yes, it's as close to the original as I've seen. But he is playing.
      I knew nothing about the guy before, but now I'm watching him. Impressive.
      Remain inquisitive and analytical, David.

      It wasn't obvious from the non-album noodling at the end? Or the fact that the tapping intro isn't quite spot on?

    • @grokmaektruk5974

      1. I had figured it out by the time he improvised at the end.
      2. No. Guitarists don't always play their own stuff note for note.

    You know its so funny but I figured it out people !!! When we watch and enjoy Jacobs playing and performance we notice that yes he is taking some care to make sure that he looks cool while playing. Yes, he does. But, guess what people !!! After watching every single one of his videos many, many times. This is over a period of a year and a half time span people. It finally clicked !!! Jacobs is just so damn good that what he is playing is actually incredibly effortless and easy for him. He has his shit down so damn tight that he is relaxed and basically laughing at how damn easy this truly is for him !!!! And by the way, he's isn't trying to look and act cool for the camera. Really, he's not. Jacob is not only the best cover guitarist of Van Halen songs in the world, but he is the actual definition of what cool is. If you pick up the latest edition of Webster's, you will find his smiling face right below the definition of COOL.

    • @kidandscript3642
      @kidandscript3642 7 лет назад +5

      I agree with you to a certain point on Jacobs coolness. Personally, I just think Jacob expresses the music within him because it is so deep in his core and so close to the surface. This is rare but when someone has it like Jacob, or Steve Vai, they can't hold it in even if they wanted to. AND it feels so damn good to be that in touch with music you don't want to hold it in.
