      @@offbrandpennywise Like, you're not wrong, but the fact you'd go ahead and correct it for sure makes you a nerd. You're not the only person who read this, saw it, and knew paw didn't apply. Hundreds of people saw it, read it, shrugged it off. Out of those hundreds of people, you corrected it. That's because you can still know what is being said and correcting people over trivial things isn't normal. You're a nerd. It's not a bad thing to be, it's just what you are now. If you'd like to be less of a nerd, then don't correct people over trivial details that don't matter.

    I'm the grandson of dairy farmers and I've done my fair share of milking cows when I was younger. I'm a 50 year old carpenter with a messed up back and after multiple knee ops I know what it's like to be in constant pain so I love watching Graham take care of these beautiful animals. When you're around them long enough you realise how much of a personality each one has. Like a lot of animals they really react to kind treatment. My grandfather was a grumpy old fart(we loved each other dearly) but to watch him interacting with his cows you'd think they were his best friend. When they were in the old milking stalls he'd scratch them and talk to them and they'd just eat their oats and molasses and stand pretty calmly. Then they'd just wander off slowly down to the pasture and up the mountain side and go back to their green grass. They didn't have to bad a life.

    Every time i watch an abscess inury that you work on i feel a huge amount of empathy for the cow. I have a skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa and it causes boil like leisons and i know just how awfully painful issues like this can be. I sometimes find even thin cloth brushing the area so eyewatering painful - i cannot even imagine how these cows deal with issues like these on their feet, with all that weight bearing down on it. I also know that when they burst either through lancing or naturally they relief is incredible and instant. I am always so touched by the thought and effort you put behind every hoof trim and the awareness you have of the pain these animals are in.

      Firstly, I'm so very sorry that you have to deal with such an unrelentingly painful condition. I also have issues with chronic pain, and I know exactly what you mean about how it's often only when the pain abates that you even fully realize just how much pain you've been in!
      There's something so immensely satisfying in seeing these poor animals get such instant relief. At least as humans we can generally comprehend what's causing pain, and because we have hands we have the ability to provide relief for ourselves through things like lancing...these poor cows probably can't comprehend why they're in so much pain, and since they don't have hands they can't do anything but just try to live with it. But I have no doubt that their experience when the pain is suddenly relieved is like ours: an indescribable sense of relief. And so it's just so lovely to see the relief provided to these animals.
      I sincerely wish you many more good days than bad! ❤

      Chances are, you grew up where I live now. SoCal, bunch of dairy farms that some are now redeveloped into homes.
      I've also wondered why they don't do hoof trimming out here, and I had an explanation a while back, and now I've forgotten. I think it has something to do with the amount of wear that the cows get here and the climate vs the ones in Scotland. The cows here are outdoors all the time, so they may get more natural wear than ones that move between outdoor and indoors.

    • @toscadonna
      @toscadonna Год назад +3

      If cows are kept inside on concrete like they are in these cold places (to keep the cows from losing weight and being stressed), they don’t get the same amount of wear on their hooves as they do outside on the grass and rocks. Also, they’re more likely to injure a hoof if they’re on really hard surfaces like concrete. I grew up on a farm in Texas. No cattle with bad feet. I did have to trim my horses’ feet, though. The horse have been bred so that they have to have a farrier even if they’re outside running around and not enclosed. Mustangs don’t need to, though. Their hooves wear down by Nature.

    Awesome. She feels so much better. We had a cow once and I couldn’t find where the soreness was coming from, and the all of the sudden the sole burst open all the rubbish came out. She literally sighed with relief. I ended up taking most of the hoof horn off. I was so happy that I could help her. She became a great cow in the herd after that 😊

    Wonderful! As a prey animal, they 'normally' try to hide lameness, so you should appreciate that she trusts you enough that a full 'can't put my foot down' lame was preferred so she could do a quick 'Get the heck out of Dodge' before you could change your mind. I'm glad you followed her to get video of her once she was out of reach and she had had the opportunity to test drive her 'new' foot!

    I had a devastating ankle injury that resulted in 3 unsuccessful surgeries and am in an ungodly amount of pain with each step. After a long day on my feet, my mom once described my screaming by saying “it sounds like you’re in labor.” So I get how this girl feels and am SO glad you’re able to help her, even if it isn’t pretty. Those of us who know that kind of daily pain know that everything you do is purposeful.

    Hey I finally got one right! 🥳 I’m not putting it in this comment so others won’t find it. I have 2 different severe chronic pain conditions from a botched surgery to my torso. I hate going to new doctors because they always want to poke my belly which is guaranteed to set off a pain attack. That said I’m human & I understand what’s happening even when I don’t like it. They’ve proven that just the patient understanding what’s happening dramatically reduces their stress, making them be better at handling the pain they do have. For this reason I really feel for these poor animals dealing with that pain & being incapable (as far as we know) of understanding why the man with the steel box is digging at her sore foot with a knife 😢

    I'm sure it takes a while for them to start walking better also just cuz they're unsure about what the block is. Like "wtf is on my foot? Is this gonna make me fall? What did they do to my foot?" Once they realize they can walk on the block and better yet, that it helps them walk without as much pain, they probably love it, but at first I'm sure they're a little uneasy. I would be too if people whom I couldn't under picked up my sore foot and started messing with it, then put on a weird, tall shoe. But she does look like she's walking really well, all things considered, at the end.

    Can a say a massive thank you for mentioning those of us with chronic pain conditions. I was born with femoral anteversion with compensatory external tibia torsion and Ehlers Danlos syndrome. Luckily they didn't bother me much as a kid, baring some shoulder dislocations. I remember at the age 8 teaching calves to drink from a bucket instead of a bottle, my father milking the cows. From the age of 12 I was feeding 300 pigs, 40 hens, 2 cockerels and 3 baby lambs by myself and I miss those days. Now I can't even stand for a couple of minutes due to the EDS and my spinal discs being completely knackered.
    Your videos take me back over 40 years and help me block the pain....just wish my opiates could do as good a job as painkillers as you do helping the cows be comfortable and painfree.
    If you're ever in Wurzels country I'll buy you a pint of cider.
