    Thanks for the review, I've just bought this as I was looking for a small video tripod that fit inside an existing kit bag after the leg fell off my current tripod... I don't even know where that leg is... Good to know that it's not bad for the price!
    If you don't want to carry around an alan key pick up something like a small rig multi-tool - super useful to tighten/loosen all sorts of things!

    I have one of these and your review is spot on, the pan is very stiff. I use manfrotto style quick release plates so always put those on top of the existing quick release that way I have consistency. Love your videos by the way, thanks for reviewing this.

    Wonderful review, thank you. I am driving myself crazy trying to assemble an affordable video tripod kit, looking for a "sweet spot" in terms of price and quality, and your review gives me a much better idea of what sorts of real-world compromises come into play at the lower price points. I'm still trying to get a general clue about how to assess this kind of equipment, and your candor, clearly based on experience, is most helpful.

    Had this about a year now and it has served me well, the pan is stiff but I've been fine with it and its been giving me good results.
    However in the last month the pan now has play in the first portion of the movement so doing tracking shots back n forth are no longer possible as its now giving me a jolt when the direction needs to be reversed.
    Been a very solid head and been pleased with it but thinking of the 502AH now as I need a little more from it.

    Nice presentation thank you. I have same head for my still camera work paying $56 on ebay. Seems very well made. Works well even on a Canon 6D with a Sigma 150-600mm lens. The other rig is a canon M50 and Tamron 18-400. Tripods iFootage Cobra 150 monopod, brilliant. Also Zomi 666 tripod. Amature photography mainly wildlife. Well I must learn to read instructions as I did not know about the ratchets. Terry Central Coast Nsw.

      Ahh I'm so sorry. For the life of me I can't remember if it had a 3/8 as well as 1/4. Looking around my gear room I don't have any spare 3/8 so it must have just been a 1/4

  • @tomdchi12
    @tomdchi12 5 лет назад +2

    Can you finish a panning shot with a fairly tele lens smoothly, or do you get "spring back"? It might be a good option to put on a beefy monopod like the iFootage one - you care about tilt smoothness, but pan is fairly moot.
    I also suspect they offer an extended warranty/spare part service that costs 74 Dollarydoos - known as "buying a second one." (If they are just buying batches of these from a manufacturer and (partially) slapping their logo on it, they probably won't have a stock of spare parts, just full replacement units.)

    I have the same fluid head but find the pan stiffness too light. Worst of all, there is a resistance when staring to pan which requires a bit more force to start the pan movement which then suddenly releases and causes a jerking action. Does not look good in your video! I also picked up other reviewers with exactly the same complaint. Since the main purpose of a fluid head is to get smooth panning with just about invisible start/stop action, this head fails the test.
    Update:
    Since posting this comment I search for more comments and reviews and came across quite a few complaints about the resistance and jerky panning issue with this head.

    $70-80 AUD, and metal parts,... Bar-gain,...
    Kinda wouldn't expect there to be warranty for parts, probably just exchange.
    Looks like a good head for a sub 2kilo camcorder, like we use for local motorsport stuff, or the behind scenes camcorder on a film set.
    Does the handle mount look standard size - I always find the arm is way too short for fine control on most budget heads.

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  4 года назад +1

      Could have sworn someone else asked this same question a few days back and I responded. Funny I can't seem to find it in my notifications! Yeah it's holding up ok! As per some other comments on here I altered the drag on the pan and it's a little better, not perfect but still ok. I don't use it heavily and I am sure with continuous daily heavy use it will wear out a lot quicker. You get what you pay for really. It's still great for a budget and for regular use and as long as you take good care of it it will last longer. 😊
