    The federal government should establish pharmaceutical manufacturing and make medical stockpiles so when medication gets low the government releases it. And where medication can be made by pharmaceutical manufacturers in Australia and where possible by compounding pharmacies any drug manufactured without licensing fees if supply is low. No applying for exceptions.

      You can't 'just' manufacture pharmaceuticals. First, most are covered by patents. But even more importantly, they also require a whole host of precursor chemicals and processes. Pharmaceuticals are at the end of a very complex and highly regulated, supply and manufacturing chain. No one country - not even the USA - can solve this problem on its own, let alone one with a very small market like Australia. Not every problem is caused by politicians, nor can they can be solved by just 'voting the bums out'.

    Another reason why Australia should be making our own medicines instead of relying on overseas companies…it’s not like we don’t have the space to build the facilities and we are not short on people to work in facilities…this country has all the resources we could ever need…but we rely on overseas countries….that is down to governmentS and international trade.

    Yet Xina has no difficulty manufacturing fentanyl and carfentanyl and their precursors.

      We should be thankful for few dodgy chinese factories. If the black market didnt exist, then aussies wouldnt have any other options if their pharmacist ran out.
      I understand what youre getting angry at, but i feel like your ire should be directed at the multinational drug companies. Not at a few sneaky illegal wholesalers in the giant country that is china

    So here's an idea: if the Australian market is too small for you to manufacture for, consider manufacturing for export as well. Whatever the challenges, find a solution and quit staring into space!

    When _some_ start stock-piling, the shortages start of necessary meds for everyone else!! How selfish, looks like over 8 bottles of her meds (8 mths ) & I don't know of ANY pharmacist that wld _dispense_ that amount, whether to stockpile or not. As it is illegal.

    When politicians are in need of particular medications they will quickly push through regulations that enable the production of the medications they require! As for the public, to hell with them just as is their attitude to our health and dental system. Australia desperately needs to step up the manufacturing of many products and market them to overseas buyers so we will also maintain supplies for domestic use. This country will not thrive in the future relying on selling minerals, livestock and boutique beer and wine. At present the government is riding on the backs of foreign property buyers while many Australians are homeless and will soon be without employment too.

    I found a natural way to control my cholesterol, by taking a triple dose of fish oil, some may need more if cholesterol is really bad. It'll take months to see a change but it can happen. I've been working on other natural methods to replace other health problems. I know we can find an alternative to many pharmaceutical products it's a matter of digging for the information and testing it. It's infuriating when profits are more important than people's lives.

      Do make sure you're chatting to your doctor, or get a new one. Even if youre taking other 'at-home' methods. they can still give you advice and tell you what may or may not work. Your GP isnt beholden to drug companies and should in 99% of cases understand drug unavailability and be okay with alternate methods if youre open and upfront with them :)

      @@jord.an6123 I made my doctor aware, but many western medical Dr's discredit Natura methods until proven otherwise. Just like the baby formula shortage in the USA doctors told their patients not to try alternatives... like let your baby starve is a better option seriously...

    PBS pushes prices down so much it puts Australia down the list when supply is tight. You can’t blame manufacturers for doing that. They are businesses and sell to the highest bidder first. Same thing effects many other countries. Patients lose out but it means people pay less tax.

    In addition to addressing supply chains. Maybe there could be better management to reduce wastage of medicines too?
    How many packets, blister packs of medication are thrown away because of various reasons. Maybe some medications should be returned to pharmacists or similar for redispensing. Yes, there are challenges to this, but some medication is got to be better than none.

      They may not be resold because they could have been improper ie temperature regulated incorrectly stored or tampered with.

    • @nadinewhittome9140
      @nadinewhittome9140 Год назад

      Yes, I agree that could be the case for much of the medicine. However, I'm sure there's plenty being wasted that would be stored correctly and untampered with. I'm thinking of places such as aged care/medical facilities. I'm sure we could do better? At least that's my hope.@@noramaddy4409
