  • Semaglutide was created as a drug to treat diabetes, but its side effect of weight loss brought it more attention.
Now TikTok is awash with users and celebrities like Elon Musk and Amy Schumer have confirmed the drugs are part of their weight loss regimes, sending the value of the drug and its proprietor Novo Nordisk to stratospheric heights.
Is semaglutide the light at the end of the tunnel after a century of dangerous and expensive weight loss experimentation?
Matt Bevan takes a look in this episode of: If You’re Listening.

Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes often go hand in hand so it makes sense that this drug addresses both. Kind of like cause and effect. Since taking Ozempic, I no longer get horrible sugar rushes, my body is processing sugar like I don't have Diabetes and the effects of the weight falling off me is that it is also helping me with all the negative effects of Diabetes. I had an addiction to ice cream - had to have it every night, cold or hot weather, just had to have it. Now, I can barely look at it. It disgusts me. The weight loss is slow but it's consistent. I was only allowed to get a prescription because I have Type 2 Diabetes but it's hard to say which is the greatest health risk: Diabetes or obesity. The damage obesity can so to the body is just as dangerous. This has changed my life.

If you have too much fat, you're obese. Too much sugar, you're diabetic. Both are cancer related due to hyperinsulinemia.
It's not about calories, it's about eating right. Counting calories is only a distraction to keep people from making smarter food choices. The kinds of foods that you eat affects how your body will perform. Even if calories are the same, 2000 calories of candy does not equate to 2000 calories of veggies.

I have found Ozempic is effective at taking weight off as one of those who haven't had any uncomfortable side effects. But the real test will be whether I can avoid putting the weight on once I stop taking it. That seems a little daunting just now because the amount of food allowed to stay beneath a daily calorie limit seemed very small once I started counting calories carefully. I've had a few big surprises and most suggest I should usually prefer the option with the highest fibre content for the same number of calories. It was shocking to learn how much fruit and vegetables I could have instead of just a few slices of bread.

@@Meatbalzz Hello. I started on it about 3 months ago and had certainly noticed a strong reduction in my appetite within the first four days.
I wasn't massively overweight, about 74Kg when ideally I'd be 60Kg, but all of that excess was around my middle.
I started dropping weight quickly but have plateaued around 67Kg for the last month. I suspect my metabolism has slowed as my body's reaction to "famine" conditions.
Any suggestions? Try counting calories carefully for a while. Doing so prompted me to almost eliminate bread and eat many more vegetables. And I've discovered Chia Puddings. Mix chia seeds and soy milk, and leave in the fridge overnight. The water-soluble fibre in the seeds absorbs water from the soy milk. Sweeten as needed with vanilla essence and any stewed fruits.
      Good luck!

    • @jvvoid

The catch is that many people began regaining lost weight within a year *while still taking the drug*! Also, clinical trials have only been very short. People on this medication for weight loss take double the dose of those taking it to manage their T2D symptoms. There is little to no data about the long term effects of taking this drug in this strength when you were not diabetic to start with. It would be great to know what happens to people after 5 or 10 years, but this research doesn't exist. So far this seems to be just one more (expensive!) way to weight cycle and weight cycling *has* been proven to negatively affect health. People also run the risk of getting thyroid tumors or permanently changing their body's endocrine system. We deserve so much better than to make Novo Nordisk richer by being guinea pigs for an improperly tested drug.

Yep, my Dr just put me on it, 2 weeks ago, I have already lost half a dress size, but the best thing I have really noticed, I lost my craving for sweets and chocolate, even coffee, my consumption of coffee has dropped right down to one a day and I have even been drinking water which I hate the taste of water, I also drink milk I have found that it helps to slow the server hunger pains but it also does a better job at keeping my sugar levels above 4.
I suffer from hypoglycaemia all my life, the number of times my body has used up all of its sugar levels suddenly to the point where I would pass out was getting dangers, for some reason I over produce insulin and the Drs back in the 90’s said the only way to fix that was to remove the pancreas 😳 but I would have to take insulin shots for the rest of my life, that was not a cure that was a life sentence.
I thought the Ozempic would interfere with my hypoglycaemia but it has not, if anything it has helped my sugar levels stay above 4 and because I don’t have the addictive cravings for chocolate and other sweets I have noticed when the body has really needed a real boost in sugar, which a glass of milk has been enough to keep it balance and also cuts the gut wrenching hunger that I get when it’s needing sugar.
For the first 24-36 hours I do feel a little off but it passes and I’m fine. I’m keeping an eye on that but as I waited to start taking the Ozempic on the Saturday it’s only my time that’s been affected and my Dr did say that it could happen but it will pass, he’s diabetic and has been on it to control his diabetes and he said it only affected him in the first 4-5 weeks at the start of using it so he started me off at the low dose and said after I have used my first pen, we will see how I’m going if I still feel a little sick, we will wait for the next refill of my script and see how I’m handling things.
I just love the fact my cravings are gone they went the first week, I did not even know of this side affect until I did some reading of the ozempic, just haven’t the cravings gone for me is a huge step in the right direction.

the way to treat diabetes without pharma is to balance your triglycerides and maintain a microbiome that favors oils/essential fatty acids and saturated fats over simple carbs and sugars for a good portion of the diets calories. that and also include up to 10 portions of vegetables and low glycemic fruit a day. and focusing on vitamin B1 rich foods to complement your rich/lean inner complex. not enough b1 an your body can't process the food its eating as efficiently same can be said for adaptogenic herbs. omega 3 fish oil specifically helps target stubborn body stores

Nice ad for a very dangerous drug. From ChatAI - Semaglutide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and, at a higher dose, obesity. It belongs to a class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. Like any medication, semaglutide can have side effects. Common side effects of semaglutide may include:
Nausea: This is one of the most common side effects and tends to occur when starting the medication. It often improves over time as the body gets used to the drug.
Vomiting: Some individuals may experience vomiting, especially during the initial weeks of treatment.
Diarrhea: Diarrhea can also occur, although it typically lessens with continued use.
Abdominal pain: Mild to moderate abdominal discomfort or pain is possible.
Loss of appetite: Semaglutide may lead to a reduced appetite in some individuals.
Headache: Headaches can occur as a side effect.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): While semaglutide itself is less likely to cause hypoglycemia compared to some other diabetes medications, it can still happen when used in combination with other medications that lower blood sugar.
Injection site reactions: Some people may experience redness, swelling, or itching at the site of injection.
Increased heart rate (tachycardia): This can occur in some cases.
Pancreatitis: Rarely, semaglutide has been associated with pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. Symptoms may include severe abdominal pain, often radiating to the back, and should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately.
Thyroid tumors: In animal studies, semaglutide has been associated with thyroid tumors. It's important to note that the significance of this finding in humans is not fully understood, and further research is ongoing.
Kidney problems: Some individuals may experience changes in kidney function while taking semaglutide.
Allergic reactions: Although rare, allergic reactions to semaglutide can occur. Symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms.

Eating a high protein diet (carnivore or keto) produces the same results as this drug minus the nausea and 20k a year. It takes max a month and minimum two weeks for you body to adapt to getting it's fuel from protein. Massive weight loss and you get to still eat tasty food provided it's meat that's not breaded or has any sauces that contain sugar or a lot of carbs. Seems a win-win and it's a lot more sustainable. Just eat till your full and stay full from the protein.

@@IIIRuin If you are prediabetic then you should try it. Take 6 weeks and come back and say it doesn't work. See your Dr and let them know. It's the easiest and safest way to control weight and all its related issues.

@@zennydoo I also should have included that just eating a high protein probably won't be able to compete with this drug. It's really when you add resistance training and intermittent fasting that it's comparable to this drug. I've found that I feel stronger and have more energy that before I was on the diet. Also I've noticed I'm gaining stength quicker when I do resistance training compared to eating a non restrictive diet. I'm speaking from personally experience. Lost 29 lbs in 2 and half months and I barely exercise. I do maybe 5 to 10 mins of pushups and pullups a day. I'm not diabetic. Ozempic is formulated for people who are diabetic and is still going to be the best avenue form them, especially if their doctor prescribed it. This diet is something they should consult their doctor before trying. I'm really think if your not diabetic, you could lose a serious amount of weight. Especially if you pair consistent cardio and pumping weights.
