Our company switched from dewalt to Milwaukee and I think that's the best thing they did. Nothing will beat the hydraulic wrench but the Milwaukee battery impact wrench comes close and you don't have to mess with the hoses or have to pull out the gas drill when you have poles to climb. I love the 3 in 1 socket paired with the impact wrench. Keep up the video brother and be safe out there.
This is an amazing tool! As a lineman myself in southern Indiana I have one of these hanging near my tool board in my bucket truck and use it daily! As soon as I used it I removed the hydraulic drill and haven’t looked back has been rained on at least 8times been dropped and beat up and I’ll never go back best tool in awhile

We just got one of these, we've been using an earlier model for a few years and this is far superior, It's noticeably lighter and the quick lock feature on the chuck is awesome, no more dropped sockets or bits stuck in the pole because you thought it was locked in the chuck.
We have been using this for a few months now and it has been working very well. It actually sheared the 7/16" to 1/2" adapter on the Klein Square Drive 4-in-1 socket.
I'm a broadcast engineer, but your video convinced me to get a Milwaukee rechargeable screw driver. Top notch gear. I could not ask for a better quality power tool.
I have recently changed my mind on that myself. Especially with auger bits, not for metal drilling. A lot of manufacturers are making auger bits impact ready. If you have ever drilled wood with a powerful drill and the bit gets a bite it will break your arm. The impact takes that out of the question.
I use impact with my large auger bits. Dangerous having drill on high torque mode that keeps stalling and tries to torque out of your hand. I can drill with one hand with my big 1/2 impact if I brace it right.

Bobsdecline - Lineman blogger No worries, I posted my edit probably 15 seconds before you replied, so you were probably already typing! The only times I’ve seen RUclips channels cover branding on tools was because they weren’t getting paid by said brand for publicity. Its refreshing to see a different reason!
Thing about the batteries that are inside these battery packs: they are all notionally 3.7V. 5 of those and you've got 18.5V. But 6 would be 22.2V. Freshly charged and off load they are good for about 4V, so DeWalt and others can claim 20V but it's kinda 'marketing volts'. Similar with '12V' systems: 11.1V notional, 12V freshly charged.
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
The 20v batteries are just marketing wank. The 18v and 20v batteries are the same, 18v is the nominal voltage and 20 is the full charge voltage. They just slap it on there to appear better than the competition. In reality, the voltage of a LiPo battery will rapidly drop from ~20v to the nominal ~18v after being discharged only 20-40%(depends on discharge rate).

That elongated handle is a neat feature. I see one other glove friendly change. The chuck release collar's raised edge is quite a bit taller than usual.
If you check out some videos about batteries like Milwaukee and dewalt and makita, etc. you’ll find that the ones that say 20v are actually the max voltage and not avg that they run off. When you use a voltage tester on a Milwaukee battery it’s actually like 20.55 volts it’s putting out!

That gun is excellent, I fix High speed electric trains, I use the 1/2” drive M18 fuel “buzz gun” it will do nearly 2000nm that’s close to 1500ft lb in your money, pretty fairly priced too at £300, I like the idea of your gun being able to change from the crazy sockets to the drill bit, (ideal for when your hanging off a pole), I used to be in power generation/ distribution before I went to the trains, so a lot of stuff/procedures you use are the same in Scotland
That is a really nice tool. I like the blue tooth. If it helps to not loose tools and locate on a dark night. That will save money. I have lost drill at a site. Think it was picked up. Never to be seen again. Was not worried to bad because I had beat the drill pretty bad and was time for an upgrade. I always seem to buy spare bits to carry as backup. I use the heck out of IDEAl spring hole saw bits for your drill. They have broken at the most inconvenient time. I would carry a brand new spare of the sockets you have. They are made to last a long time but when they go it really stinks. I had been caught where I could not just get a replacement tool and traveling a lot. Now that I work more locally to my house. I have places that have things more available that break. But nice to have a spare bag to pull them from. I still keep some things on hand but need to replenish some other specialty tools. I switch recently to the 18v Milwaukee drill and destroyed three bitts in one day. Burnt the masonry tip right off. I am sure with the high impact it will eventually break the stem of the socket. Ping is never a good noise. I hope they put the blue tooth on all the tools. Be will worth it to me. I am really not sure about the disable bit. guess could be good for kids if was on site at a house. Also a good app for the CO worker using your tools. So they can learn to use their own. I'm not a lineman, standard Electrician. However I wanted it for using really large holesaws and augers without destroying my wrists when they torque up. Also it's far more useful for changing tires on the truck rather than the 1/4" hex impact or buying a 1/2" square impact alone.

@@Bobsdecline You can't lock it after the fact as its using the phones data to receive the lock command. If stolen unlocked it will work fine without the app.
Do you guy blow up those socket connectors that go to the drill chuck fitting? I know when we are building grain bins we use the ones that have the socket attachments on them cause those adapters snap
Any idea on the technical reason why they rate it up to 69 kV specifically? I would've assumed that being battery operated it's isolated so the actual voltage it touches doesn't matter, and from a safety point of view it depends on your gloves and other equipment, so I'm wondering why it's rated to any particular voltage at all. Any ideas?
What impact were you comparing this to? The dewalt I have does 700 ft/lbs in forward and 1200 ft/lbs reverse/ break away. But at a lower rpm than the Milwaukee
I know this is an old video, however if you didn't know using the High Output batteries, they use 2170 cells vs the 18650's in their regular line (XC) and will deliver more current to the tool and allow it to run both faster and with more torque. Just a little PSA, for the Milwaukee guys if they didn't know.
That's awesome! I appreciate this comment 🤝. At first I just thought the larger batteries had a longer life but soon realised they delivered much more current. Using a 2.0 vs a 5/8.0 in the impact gun isn't even comparable. Much more power! Thanks. Cheers!
The DeWalt impact is rated at 1200 ft.lbs. counter clockwise and 700 ft.lbs. clockwise; I don’t recall the RPM. It has 3 speed/torque settings which is nice. I do like the quick lock though.
I recently sold my 7/16 Milwaukee and bought the dewalt. It seems like it is heavier and not as much power as the Milwaukee. What’s your take on Milwaukee vs dewalt? I’ve owned both and like both. My small 1/4 inch impact dewalt burned out on me on 7.2kv but I still like it. You have a preference?
Nothing is stronger then the Ingersollrand 5/8 chuck they still go for 1500 used however Im curious whats gonna happen years from now. Ive already seen that charging batterries in extreme temps is an issue. Its a great tool. The batt technology from milfawkee is good but extreme temps are still needing some research and development.
We use the M18's at my work, but at home I just have an M12. The M12 is better at home and still has a ton of torque. Also have the hammer and soldering iron in the trunk.
Makita makes a very similar unit : XWT09XVZ with 590 ft.lbs same hanger as the Milwaukee you demonstrate, 3-speed (0-900/0-1,000/0-1,800 RPM & 0-1,800/0-2,000/0-2,200 IPM) provides precise fastening control and comes in with 8.5 lbs roughly with big block 6AH Battery. Us Solar installers do also work with gloves :-). And same apply for everyone who messes around with high voltage I would say :-) let's get cocking some meat :-)
I recently started climbing and was just curious, is it normal to take time to get use to the uncomfortable being comfortable? Like trusting your equipment knowing it’ll catch you if you gaff out or something? Is this something that just takes repetition doing? In my head I know it’s good. But i didn’t know if it’s just where it’s a new thing that the body isn’t use to doing yet. Kinda off topic but I wanted to ask someone experienced. And you’re always very wise and good with following up on questions!
Absolutely man! To be perfectly honest, even once to are really used to working off hooks and trusting your gear .. you'll still have bad days once and a while! It's perfectly normal ✌️ There are some people of course that never get over it, and decide the trade isn't quite for them... But give it some time, get used to trusting your gear and don't get in the habit of working with one hand while the other is holding on for dear life!
Bobsdecline - Lineman blogger Yeah I mean we’re 2 weeks in now! And we’ve done pole top rescue, transitions and gonna start doing cross arms soon and cut outs etc.. and I catch myself ever once in a while trying to work with one hand but catch myself doing it. And I guess that’s just just getting use to working 40 feet in the air etc.. I know doing it at 10 and 40 is the same it’ll catch you. I just didn’t want to think I was the only one thinking it took time to get use to the new movements and working at those heights!! I absolutely love it though.
Bobsdecline - Lineman blogger oh yeah man! It’s so interesting to me, and just all that goes Into it and helping the people and the adrenaline rush of it all. Just Awesome! Just getting use to the new style of work, working off the ground on hooks. But obviously Safety is number one and I’ll never do something I don’t feel safe doing it or unsure of! Just gonna listen, learn and do what’s asked!
Im not a lineman but im an arborist/tree climber so i use alot of the same gear as you guys do. And when i first started it was hell on my hips and my shins and my lower back. And was pretty scary to be standing on what feels like such tiny spikes. But as you develop those muscles associated with climbing, you will gain a sense of comfort because you wont be so uncomfortable/awkward. Also will learn different ways to position yourself that make you feel safer. Working at heights is amazing and an awesome opportunity. Good luck!
We've got a ton of small business local suppliers... I definitely recommend checking your local hardware stores first. If not many big box stores carry them (Home Depot) for example.
@@Bobsdecline thanks I looked around the stores in my country, and I managed to find a Milwaukee store but unfortunately they don't have the utility impact wrench, but I gave them the specs and they said they will get back to me.
You can more pounds or torque into that nut if you had 1/2 impact wrench instead putting those extended converters for that sockets but you wont probably need it probably just over kill

Guess you would cut power at the end of shift when it gets stored.
Im not a lineman or need of new tools yet still watched the whole thing
Do you guy blow up those socket connectors that go to the drill chuck fitting? I know when we are building grain bins we use the ones that have the socket attachments on them cause those adapters snap
Any idea on the technical reason why they rate it up to 69 kV specifically? I would've assumed that being battery operated it's isolated so the actual voltage it touches doesn't matter, and from a safety point of view it depends on your gloves and other equipment, so I'm wondering why it's rated to any particular voltage at all. Any ideas?
Have you ever used Kleins power tools by any chance? If you have what’s your opinion on them?
I use the m18 1/2 everyday as a mechanic 🧰 I killed all the others this 1 has lasted love it . 💪
Thanks. Cheers!
👊 Québec ! I got from santa. 😆😄 but not the battery. Did you have preference for the weight?
Great review, i think this is the only review from a lineman on this tool on RUclips 👊🏻 watching from Central California
Thanks Oil spill! 👊
That is all we use man!! A great tool for sure!!!! As always stay safe from your friend in Kansas!!!
No complaints at all so far! Good hearing from ya! Be safe 👊🍻
Do you have a video using a impact wrench to 34kv line?
Hi, why do you have the dewalt impact covered in black tape?
I’m going to be using it for 3/4 inch holes I drill abt 50 a day I hope it holds up
The DeWalt impact is rated at 1200 ft.lbs. counter clockwise and 700 ft.lbs. clockwise; I don’t recall the RPM. It has 3 speed/torque settings which is nice. I do like the quick lock though.
Why square bolt heads on lines? Why not hexagonal ones?
Milwaukee is awesome that’s all I buy now. Your channel is awesome. More footage working on the lines.
That One Key stuff is really cool. It's probably pretty helpful for some employers making sure tools don't walk out the door at the end if a shift.
Ill be using it for roughing electricity that will help big time i hate when my drill hit a nail it twist my arm
What type of drill bit can fit in to that 7/16 hex
Q: Is there any benefit in the mounting position of lightning arrestors? Above cutout, below, transformer mount, etc.
We use the M18's at my work, but at home I just have an M12. The M12 is better at home and still has a ton of torque. Also have the hammer and soldering iron in the trunk.
I enjoy watching your video ! It helps me so much. I appreciate it. Stay safe !
Milwaukee is just light years ahead of everyone else.
Greetings from New Zealand, happened across your channel one day been enjoying your content.🇳🇿👍👍
Thanks Steve! ✌️
A serious tool :) Designing the handle to run on rails could be an option. Also, bits could be made from a composite :) 🇱🇻
Hello, can you use it directly on the 13,200v energized line?
It's rated for use on up to 69 000v!
Houston Texas! Awesome work my friend!
Klein has some awesome linesman power tools too, like the stubby, angled version of what you got there. I hope you get to play with that!
they pulled the youtube video, but it's officially online now: www.kleintools.com/catalog/impact-tools/90-degree-impact-wrench-kit
Watching from Pittsburgh Pa, in the Duquesne Light Service area
7:50 Remember: If you don't schedule
maintenance, your equipment will do it for you.
Greetings and thanks from the Ottawa Valley
It's perfectly normal ✌️
There are some people of course that never get over it, and decide the trade isn't quite for them...
Sounds to me like you'll do just fine! Saying you absolutely love it means a lot
Good luck!
Milwaukee always made good tools, it's the only one I buy, don't look for discounts, look for quality.
Nice video man! Keep uploading I love watching your vids!
Thanks Zach! 👊🍻
I would love to see what happens to the old wooden poles when they are replace from old age or after being broken from an accident/storm
Great video Bob, very informative!!!
Anyone know if they offer the same drill but without the one key feature?
She's a hoss! Home Depot should set up some telephone poles by the tool corral to demo impacts.
Milwaukee is a great company and tool.
Thank you for showing us this tool it makes work easier, i need one were can I buy
Oh nice! It's definitely the best one out there, I've been using mine for many years now. Still use it everyday
They make some great tools. Just bought a propress from Milwaukee.
How does this compare to hole hawg?
I frickin love Milwaukee tools. My favorite ever!
You can more pounds or torque into that nut if you had 1/2 impact wrench instead putting those extended converters for that sockets but you wont probably need it probably just over kill
What work gloves do you use
I don't really have a need for it myself (IT consulting & Data/coms work mostly), but that's a really trick tool. Out of curiosity, what kind of tools are you required to provide for yourself vs what your employer provides?
first complaint... what is a foot pound, torque is measured in newton metres ?
Genuinely, the term is meaningless to me
and yes i tried to google :\
Great review and yes it is a beast!👍
Thanks Jeremy! I did see your question the other day, and I'm still trying to think of something 🤔😔 let's connect on DM in the near future
