    For you newbies out there. Don't follow the sequence John has filmed. You'll find yourself getting stuck. He has completed some sections but not filmed them. If you follow his build, you'll find yourself with many extra bits that are hard to place. Follow the instructions and use Johns video as a reference. this isn't an indictment on John, nor am I criticizing him

    • @Johnbuildsiconic

      Hi paul, I totally agree with you, this buiid was never filmed as a guide, thats why I’ve not added guide or tutorial in the videos title, it’s was filmed more of a visual reference for people

    G'day from OZ John. Your videos are concise with expert tips. I've just finished watching both your tutorials on the USS Texas and enjoyed both of them very much. What a beautiful ship. So much so I've just purchased the ship and the full Pontos up-grade set, think I got the last one for sale anywhere in the world ! Cost a fortune but I believe it will embellish the ship even more. These older battleships have much more character than the more modern WW2 ships in my opinion. I'm sure your videos will help me heaps when it comes to my build so thanks again.

    Hey John! Fantastic, clear, straight-forward build and explanations of what your doing during the build. I do have a rather pertinent question for you: what is the Dremel-like tool you use on the plastic parts where the P/E is to be attached? I assume it's some sort of simple bit (which I would like to see), to slightly roughen up the plastic to better receive and hold onto the super glue.. I'd also like to know what viscosity or "thinness level;" your using in your CA. In America we have what we call, thick, regular, thin and ultra thin. The thinner it is, the harder to control it's placement. I also noted you do not use "kicker" or instant set spray. Why? What type of model glue are you applying to plastic on plastic parts? Do you have some sort of sgrouded container to keep the glue from evaporating as it sits on the workbench? Our liquid-glue (like water) evaporates very quickly if left uncovered. How do you clean your plastic to plastic application brushes? Lastly, and I can't stress this enough, YOUR VIDEO WAS THE FIRST OF MANY I LABORED THROUGH TO LOGICALLY LAY OUT AND EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE P/E PROCESS. As they say in the US Navy: WELL DONE! I look forward to watching all your videos and supporting your channel!

      He appears to be using regular Plastic weld glue Like Tamiya extra thin (Has a capillary action for traveling down the joints) Photo Etch is glued using every day CA glue. Most Hobby shops sell the Instabond brand which is really good stuff if a tad costlier than bargain bin Super glue. He may be using different brand names than I mentioned but those are the most common brands used.

  • @georgedistel1203
    @georgedistel1203 3 года назад +6

      If it's an identical part to the one you still have (Often there's a few of the same guns etc.) You can use a mold making and resin casting kit you can grab from most hobby stores to cast a new one. Option 2 would be to see if those parts have a version in an aftermarket upgrade pack like say Eduard's parts kits. Option 3 if it's a really non obvious piece you could skip it altogether and get creative for what goes in it's place but you will for sure lose some authenticity to the build, no biggie if it's a Shelf item not a contest entry.

    Has anyone tried using the Pontos kit for the Texas? I bought it mostly because of the planking but I have had a wretched time with that in that the plastic film is on top of the planking so when you peel the plastic off the sticky stuff is on TOP of the planking. If one applied that to the deck the planking would be on bottom and on top a sort of greenish material would be on top. Clearly something is wrong. I've never dealt with decking before but I don't see any fix at all to this. I tried contacting the folks at Pontos but because of communication issues (my Korean sucks) I don't seem to be able to make them understand the issue. I have lived less than 20 miles from where the Battleship is anchored outside of Houston, Texas at the San Jacinto Battleground. The only surviving Battleship in the world that fought in both World Wars - built in 1912 - 108 years old! I'd appreciate any input anyone might have

      Colour Coats out of UK has an exact match set; and there are 2 AK sets for early & late USN.

    • @CAPNMAC82
      @CAPNMAC82 3 года назад +1

      Since you have built everything, I'd recommend Meas. 21, All Over Blue.. This uses a blue-black almost nearly the same as used on USN aircraft on all verticals, and Deck Blue 20-B on all horizontal surfaces. This is not an easy task as Navy Blue 5-N is only about one shade different from 20-B. (The signalman decks had russet linoleum, and pure-shadow overhangs were Pure White). But, that's a lot less masking than Meas 22

    • @CAPNMAC82
      @CAPNMAC82 3 года назад +1

      Meas. 22 is 5-N Navy blue to lowest part of the sheer and parallel to horizon. Then 5-H Haze Gray on all vertical surfaces, with 20-B Deck blue on all horizontal surfaces (which includes turret and barrel tops down to 3" guns). The 5"/50swere all-over black; 40mm had mounts following the vert/horiz scheme with black barrels; 20mm were generally 5-H all over except black barrels.
      Which would be a ton of masking aroude delicate PE.
