Jeremy Irons is a suberb actor and performer. Its a pity he is getting minor roles nowadays. I loved this performance when he is at the top of his career and proving he can sing in musicals too. I am a fan of Kiri too, and her performances are always flawless.Great show!!

I remember when this recording was issued it wasn’t so well received. The memory of Rex Harrison in the role seemed to overwhelm the critics’ opinion. I’ve always thought it was fantastic and the Jeremy Irons gave a superb performance as Prof Higgins and Kiri’s voice stunning as always. I’m happy to say that the cd is one of my favourites!
I had no idea that Warren Mitchell could sing so well. The cockney accent is ofcourse NO problem at all for him, but he managed to do an excellent characterisation of Alfred Dolittle, without allowing his former character of Alf Garnet to slide in and take over. He really was one of the greats and is sadly missed.
I totally agree. I always found the parts that he was singing to be the low points of Sound of Music, but he changed all that. He is the master: a genius. The whole concert was amazing and everyone's performance improved as time went on; except for Mitchell's, which was masterful from the beginning and never fluctuated.
When I was young my parents rented a cabin on the Russian River in California, No TV, just a stereo and a few albums. The original album of My Fair Lady was one of those on hand. I played it every day until I knew every word. Now some 50 years later it remains one of my favorites and I still know every word. Wonderful concert performance!

What an actor Jeremy Irons is! Deep in his part, convinced and convincing, he takes the scene as the singing skills of Kiri can't shadow and, while the movie is all centred on Audrey, here My fair Lady is centred on his character! Chapeau!

Voice is great but his acting skills shine, especially when he performs I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face. The audience feels his heartbreak. Kiri is wonderful, as always.
When I was in high school, we did a performance of My Fair Lady and I played her father. I remember it into my seventies like it was yesterday. A real thrill!
I played that same rôle at the âge of 64 and it was my first ever theatrical performance! What a wonderful rôle and I can still récite a lot of the dialogue 20 years later! Helped that I grew up in London! would have lied to have Kiri as my Eliza!
What I like about Jeremy Irons is how he'll start one of his spoken-sung pieces at a more calm register, then gradually accelerates the emotion and the sound. He's simply a priceless actor. He is not in any way imitating Rex Harrison, he is making these songs his own, totally. He's acting them. I spent my childhood listening to Rex Harrison's version, and Jeremy Irons is doing his own performance. Very unlike Harrison.
Like you @erpollock I listened to this record when I was quite young, I loved the 🎶! I sometimes have a problem comparing a movie with a play or a live concert. But I do like Irons very much here -- I don't think Rex liked (or could) sing very well so he was more "talky". I've always loved Kiri she has a gorgeous voice. They're a good match 😊 When I visited London I stayed practically across fr the Royal Hall and I am ashamed to say I did not even go inside to see the place esp after they renovated it. Oh, SO many regrets in life sometimes...if we could only do it over again! 🤦♀️

I was 18 when I purchased the LP, a rare gem that time in Hungary. Now when I do not have a vinyl record player anymore and my LPs just somewhere in the flat no being used anymore, I am glad to see them on youtube. Amazing harmony between the artists and the orchestra as well as the choir is very well. Great performance.

I actually learned this entire musical all the songs - at around age 9. I spent my childhood listening to musicals and singing the songs. I know the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals, men and women's songs, with the exception of Allegro, which I discovered only as an adult. Anything you learn as a child you'll know forever. And so with My Fair Lady. I'd love to hear Laura Osnes in the Eliza Doolittle role. Her voice would be perfect for this type of music.

I Could Have Danced was excellent and gave Kiri a chance to show off her operatic range. When I hear the soprano songs I am impressed by the composer's ability to use a key that allows you to sing the last high note with ease. They are perfectly placed for the voice - Danced All Night, Show Me, for examples. I haven't sung these songs since I was probably about 12. Then I discovered Gilbert & Sullivan and was very involved in those arias.
Delightful. Those 54 minutes flew by. If it weren’t for those blasted adverts that bedeviled the presentation, it would have been nearly perfect. It could not help escaping my notice that this was back when audiences knew how to behave and did not jump up to award the performers with standing ovations at the utterance of any syllable; instead, reserving that highest honor to the most outstanding performances.
Wow! I am only half way through 'I could have danced all night' and am blown away by her voice, it's power, her control and luminous smile! Jeremy Irons is great, his voice such a surprise. It is Dame Te'Kanawa (please forgive if I misspelled) who shines so very bright. Loved her rendition of O Mio Bambino, Caro' from A Room With A View and as Dame Melba on Downtown Abbey. This is a wonderful surprise.😙
I just love her performances . She occupies so much space in my phone's memory. . She is just two years younger than me and i've been following her since the early 70's. God Bless Dame Kiri .. She is an inspiration to keep on living well and happy and be the BEST of what you are.

I sought this video to hear Jeremy Irons sing, and I Just read this morning that she's no longer doing public performances, after a 5 decade career. Such an Amazing Voice and performer.
I respect Dame Kiri for her decision. I think it’s better to go out on top and have people remember her incredible talent and career, rather than give sub-standard performances and have people criticize. We all age-it’s a fact of life. No vocalist can perform in her 70’s as well as she did years ago.
i was at the concert that night'the first half was classical and quite above my head at that point in time,however a week later, i went out and bought one of kiris' album's so,must have planted a seed there some where. the second half of my fair lady was brilliant. i took my girlfriend of the time along, total cost 140 quid equivalent to two weeks wages at the time on my meagre wage; i'd do it again tomorow at the drop of hat.
Having the famous original show recordings (US and London), this came as a very pleasing surprise, not least for the joyful experience of having a front rank symphony orchestra and its multi-talented US conductor give us the benefit of hearing the music as it surely should always be heard. I fully concur with the other comments about the vocal performances too. What a great way this has been to spend an afternoon online!

Ronette Pulaski Actually it was Rex Harrison who decided to talk-sing the roll of Higgins as he couldn’t sing. I think Jeremy Irons just followed that style. He most certainly can sing if he wants to, he was in many musicals before he decided to concentrate on acting.
I grew up listening to the original Broadway cast album on the Hi-Fi record player, twirling and singing along! Then I was taken to Miami for my first date, to see the Audrey Hepburn movie, oh the opening credit montage of flowers! Kiri Te Kanawa and Jeremy Irons are just magnificent , the whole cast have sung so well together, and the orchestra! Fabulous, and tender too. Now to see this version on RUclips, I am getting goosebumps listening again, Thank You so much for posting this for us to all enjoy, I am grateful.

I think this concert is a real masterwork. For me a reference song is a “I Could Have Danced All Night”. There the song is harmony of four female voice and the orchestra in variable tempo and dynamic. If this task are solved well then we can say it is a top of a word. And it is solved well. Moreover voice of KTK and JI is special and spectacular. But if you listen this concert, then do not forget to forget act of OH and RH in a film. This is another masterwork.

Wow! I am only half way through 'I could have danced all night' and am blown away by her voice, it's power, her control and luminous smile! Jeremy Irons is great, his voice such a surprise. It is Dame Te'Kanawa (please forgive if I misspelled) who shines so very bright. Loved her rendition of O Mio Bambino, Caro' from A Room With A View and as Dame Melba on Downtown Abbey. This is a wonderful surprise.😙
I just love her performances . She occupies so much space in my phone's memory. . She is just two years younger than me and i've been following her since the early 70's. God Bless Dame Kiri ..

I respect Dame Kiri for her decision. I think it’s better to go out on top and have people remember her incredible talent and career, rather than give sub-standard performances and have people criticize. We all age-it’s a fact of life. No vocalist can perform in her 70’s as well as she did years ago.

i was at the concert that night'the first half was classical and quite above my head at that point in time,however a week later, i went out and bought one of kiris' album's so,must have planted a seed there some where. the second half of my fair lady was brilliant. i took my girlfriend of the time along, total cost 140 quid equivalent to two weeks wages at the time on my meagre wage; i'd do it again tomorow at the drop of hat.

Having the famous original show recordings (US and London), this came as a very pleasing surprise, not least for
the joyful experience of having a front rank symphony orchestra and its multi-talented US conductor give us the
benefit of hearing the music as it surely should always be heard. I fully concur with the other comments about
the vocal performances too. What a great way this has been to spend an afternoon online!

Ronette Pulaski Actually it was Rex Harrison who decided to talk-sing the roll of Higgins as he couldn’t sing. I think Jeremy Irons just followed that style. He most certainly can sing if he wants to, he was in many musicals before he decided to concentrate on acting.
I grew up listening to the original Broadway cast album on the Hi-Fi record player, twirling and singing along!
Then I was taken to Miami for my first date, to see the Audrey Hepburn movie, oh the opening credit montage of flowers!
Kiri Te Kanawa and Jeremy Irons are just magnificent , the whole cast have sung so well together, and the orchestra!

I think this concert is a real masterwork. For me a reference song is a “I Could Have Danced All Night”. There the song is harmony of four female voice and the orchestra in variable tempo and dynamic. If this task are solved well then we can say it is a top of a word. And it is solved well. Moreover voice of KTK and JI is special and spectacular. But if you listen this concert, then do not forget to forget act of OH and RH in a film. This is another masterwork.
