- The second half of the 98th Proms conducted by Andrew Davis and featuring Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers. Presented by Richard Baker. (This was recorded from New Zealand Television onto VHS tape, transferred later DVD and finally uploaded to You tube)
I came here to say RIP to Sir Andrew Davis, who very sadly passed away yesterday and the age of 80 years on the 20/4/2024. May he never be forgotten. 🕊️
We loved him in Toronto. His last performance here was in November, 2023 with the Faure Requiem.
Absolutely beautiful music! Dame Kiri has a voice bathed in liquid gold
It is Dame Kiri's 80th Birthday today !
No phones/selfies, Dame Kiri knows the lyrics and sings fantastic and what an audience!!
Great. Thank you. My love to all those there.
Lovely British.
What a wonderfully happy evening. I didn't hear this prom's night when it was broadcasted but so glad not to have missed it after all these years. Sir Andrew Davis really captured the atmosphere of the night with a fun song instead of the conductor's traditional final prom speech.
It is Dame Kiri's 80th Birthday today !
Thanks for uploading this. One of the more memorable Last Nights that I'm glad to be able to watch again. Much appreciated.
I have just uploaded the 2nd half of the 2001 Proms.
Watching this on the BBC made me a fan for life of Kiri Te Kanawa and in particular Marietta's Song and Ebben From La Wally. With Plaisir D'Amour by Mado Robin and Solveig's Song (Libor Pesek, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra) and J'ai perdu mon Eurydice by Maria Callas, these are my top 5 classical numbers
I can't thank you enough.
Thanks, I download this from TV in New Zealand, I do not think they ever broadcast the first half of the concert, as I have recorded several Proms starting 1989.
Kiri Te Kanawa's voice is of fetchingly limpid clarity!
Beautiful
Cheers Paul, I see you are a fan !
I'm glad to hear another piece by Peter Maxwell Davies. I attended what I think was the first performance of his "Martyrdom of St. Magnus" at a prom years ago, in the Round House, Chalk farm, and I found his music electrifying then as now!
Thanks for watching, I thought the video was well worth sharing.
Du Royaume du Canada, Dieu protège le Roi! - From the Kingdom of Canada, God save the King! - 🥳 -
Greetings from New Zealand. We have been to just one Proms Concert. Thanks for watching.
