Im watching these in 2024. They are so much better than the current show. Great storylines and real acting. They definitely don't make them like this anymore 🎉
The good old days of Coronation Street - the Rovers snug, Ena Sharples being accommodated by the ratepayers for doing nothing, Albert Tatlock mentioning that he fought in WW1, Len Fairclough acting the ladies man and Don Brennan masquerading as a scaffolder.
Actor George Waring as Cllr Tattersall, returned in 1980 to play Emily's bigamous husband Arnold Swain, and Geoff Hinsliff, one of the conmen who sweet talks Bet Lynch, reappeared 10 years later in 1986 as Ivy Tilsley's second husband Don Brennan. More Corrie recycling of actors!
Glad u said all that, i did no, but i never knew there names, so i cldnt say anytg, but glad u have bec ause its amazing how we let them get away with it and didnt mind because they did it that good, thats how some people didnt even know. 🤔😊
Peter Armitage playing another character rather than Bill Webster. Not in the building but the decorating trade. Some comical scenes in these episodes especially with Stan and Eddie brewing their own beer and the bath. Also the gentleman who played Arnold Swain is in this playing a caretaker character who was also quite a devious fellow.
I love watching the classic Corrie from back in the day. 1:44:50 I love these quick head-turn moments of Annie Walker when she’s either annoyed or being dismissive.
15:09 - "I explained all that to Missus Thingummybob" 🤣😂🤣😂 Honestly Albert does make me laugh my socks off. What legends they all were. Strange seeing Arnold Swain as a councillor mind you 🤣
This is Coronation Street at its peak...all the classic actors and the best storylines. Interesting to see the future Don Brennan (Ivy Tilsleys second husband) in a minor role here, and Emily Bishops future husband Arnold Swain playing the role of a councillor. 😊
Len wandering around with his ludicrous high waisted trousers and shirt flapping open to the belly is just awful….and the way he says daaaahlin to every woman is so grating 😖
Betty Turpin at 20 minutes. “ Black & White Minstrels, they were my Cyril’s favourite “. I hope that the three black people at the bar were not offended. Today, they would shut The Rovers down, and send Betty on a diversity course.
The world changes (thank god). This was getting on for half a century ago, and is very good social history. 70s Britain was in many ways a very grim place.
@@amandajstar But people were older in every way back then, and Albert has been in the war, lived through the depression, known all the hard times. He's from a completely different world.
Watching this in 2024. Tragic hearing Alan asking Elsie for divorce. Real life married couple Alan & Pat. He died 2 years later, 1979. Production Team should have had them both back in 1976 in my opinion. Brilliant scenes together Dec 69-73.
Ray Langton had mega size balls and I love how the others were jealous of him , the goofy Eddie Yeats in particular . What is sad though is I can’t believe how dull dreary wifey Deirdre constantly swipes at him and puts him down , he obviously doesn’t like it yet stands for it. No wonder ravishing Ray left in the end.
She just got out of the hospital after having a subdural hematoma. Just because _you_ are on the loose with a head injury doesn't mean everyone else has to be.
Eric the criminal in this episode is the future Mrs Tilslies husband? Not the first time they have recycled actors. Inspector Mr Tatesles in this episode is the future Mr Emily Bishop.😊
Susie is right them students dont wash or change their clothes - smelly socks and feet and as far as their underpants go the mind boggles -They really are disgusting - I always fumigate the bedroom and bathroom the next morning once they have gone
I love the relationship between Eddie and Ena the Duchess. Thank you for another classic.

And there's Bill Webster wall papering the Rovers.
45 years later and Ken, Rita and Gail are the only characters left.
Julie Goodyear still going
@@jasonbarron3047 Bet Lynch is not in the show anymore.
Julie Goodyear is unwell. She has dementia. X
One of the scaffolds went on to play Don Brennan
The decorator went on to play Bill Webster
The Councillor went on play Arnold Swain
Thank you for pointing that out. A young Geoff Hinsliff indeed..
The sad thing is that Alan, who was married to Elsie in real life, died in 1979 due to alcohol abuse. He was 53.
Thanks so much for these great episodes. What a great channel!
So good 1977...loving it ❤
I keep coming back. These are so nice to watch. Thanks so much for the work.
One of my favourite channels on RUclips thankyou mate I really appreciate you sharing these amazing videos x
very cruel of the producers to kill renee off.

George Waring, such a good actor to make his characters so believable. If he can make me want to give Tattersall a fat lip then job done.

And Percy Sugden first appeared in Coranation Street as Arnolds best man when he married Emily .
Waring played five different roles on the Street altogether!

A councillor not caretaker.
@@prd1073 I stand corrected. Anyway great classic episodes.

Who can understand his mumbling
Jim Tattersall later came back as Arnold Swain , same nastiness just different name ???¿
It's Don and Bill lol
Bastard said on TV in early evening?! OMG
Well it's a Biblical word so it's not so bad.
When Corrie was good much better than now. It's all about sex and murders not the same now .
Yeah, in these great new days that TH is so fond of, yet keeps coming back here to be offended.
So so true, as others have said, Why can't the producers & writers look back at all these, and get some brilliant inspiration ?

OMG that’s Arnold swain I recognised the voice they did a lot of that back then
And don branning lol
The narration from Alan Howard of the letter to Elsie was amazing.
I’d have thrown that dinner at Len after the way he behaved in the last episode 4:04
Same
Couldn’t see Len getting away with that behaviour today!!! 😂
😂😂..back in the day when we use to take umbrellas out with us 🤣🤣… my grown kids won’t even take a coat to the club nowadays 🤣🤣🤣 xxx
Most people don’t take clothes these days 😂
Thank you so much for putting this back up, is there any chance of doing the same for ‘78?
Would have been good to see Ray Langtons character develop ..Pity they wrote him out..
The actor who played him chose to leave.
He came back had a heart attack in the Rovers.😢
Meh.. he was a snarky git.
I’m not surprised having dreary Deirdre nagging whingebag for an on screen wife.
Len wandering around with his ludicrous high waisted trousers and shirt flapping open to the belly is just awful….and the way he says daaaahlin to every woman is so grating 😖
Corned beef is definitely a luxury now
Eww never liked the stuff even when i was younger n corned beef hash was absolutely disgusting 🤢 🤮lol
Dont eat it that much but corned beef ,boiled potatoes with a bit of Lurpak butter on and some spring onions makes an amazing meal
Oh god! It's Arnold
I wish Len would fasten his shirt 🤑
‘Don Brennan’ mark one was a bit on the sleazy side 😂
Betty Turpin at 20 minutes. “ Black & White Minstrels, they were my Cyril’s favourite “. I hope that the three black people at the bar were not offended. Today, they would shut The Rovers down, and send Betty on a diversity course.
Gail once again playing, little miss sugar.
Whether or not they were offended likely wouldn't have bothered Granada bosses in those days, sadly.

Gail n Suzie were hilarious when they were up to mischief 🤦🏽♀️wonder what Elsie will say when she finds out 😅😅❤❤
The detective is Alan Hunter... 'Greg Ryder' of 'Take The High Road'
Ena happy as ever missing nagging Minnie to death
I miss Minnie
I love Ena and Minnie.
Derek looking quite dashing in that bkack suit
Len is fine hunk of a man with his shirt opened mm Derek is wouldn't be a patch on Len . Derek was all flattery
Eddie Yeats❤
Onslow 😊
The man who was meant to be with Renee is Don Brennan also that man who is trying to get Ena out of the flat reminds me of Arnold Swain
Definitely Arnold Swain and early appearance of Bill Webster
@@malcolmclements9254 and his petshop was a front for his drug dealings XD
Hearing Alan Broenings voice Madame sad how much he deteriorated
Has Maurice the painter aka Bill Webster got a bulging eye here? I dont remember Bill Webster having it.
His second incarnation, as Bill Webster, was a horrible character, violent and vile tempered.
@@bsaunders5271 i dont see that , he was jealous yes.

6:10 that's Don Brennan in the corner!
A working class drama for a working class audience yet the writing is often anti- worker and anti-union.
The way Len behaved 🤮that’s exactly the kind of the men that I cannot stand. Poor Rita, I don’t know why she put up with it.
Don Brennan masquerading as a scaffolder.
I’m on Ray’s side over him bubbling the two decorators.

Dirty sleazy Americans, nothing surprises me with them.
