Many thanks @ProfessionalGun66 for all your effort procuring & uploading these classic Coronation Street episodes. Watching them remind me of watching them 1st time round with my wee mammy as a young child. The original theme tune triggers memories of dreading the end credits as it was the cue that it was our bedtime! Happy days, happy memories, too true that the 1970s & 1980s were the golden years.
Absolute classic. A big strike over a broom. All Baldwin had to do was get a new broom. The writers were brilliant at creating engrossing storylines based upon the everyday lives of the working class. Bet Lynch truly was at the peak of her powers. The days when all the queens were female.
I loved the factory/strike scenes. Ivy, the bolshi Shop-Steward and downing of tools. Mike, the Capitalist and wet behind the ears Steve. The Rovers clientele winding Alf up about him and Bet living together. More fantastic Oggie scenes and a rare appearance from Bill Waddington prior to his regeneration into Percy Sugden. It's interesting how the writers changed Jack's character when he became Jack properly. Vera refers to the possibility of him giving her a black eye if she doesn't come home with a wage that week due to the strike. Obviously, domestic violence is always unacceptable, but judging by how their relationship panned out, if either Duckworth was going to have a black eye the other had caused, it would surely be Jack.

Cheryl Murray, she's got MS, it started while she was on corrie. She quit acting in 1998 but was featured in "Gail and Me" in 2015 or something to celebrate Gail Platt (Tilsleys) 40 years on the street.....all according to Wikipedia
Not sure where you got the info on James Callaghan from. Pat Phoenix and he were never married. He married his wife, Audrey, in 1938. They were married until her death in 2005, 19 years after Pat Phoenix died.
Pat phoenix used her absences to get facelifts I believe . The first few were good but eventually it stretched her nose giving her face a tight strange look, still looked good though.
Rita, Bet and Mavis are still alive. Rita still in the show Not sure about Emily.
Hey specy four eyes. Cant belive he said that lol
Regarding the business loan argument, Len says "We've got everything to lose, and nothing to gain in this..." - doesn't this amount to the same thing?
Ivy has always been a misery guts
Oh flip! Fred speaking with his mouth full and slurping his tea with Bet...uuuuggghhh 😬
Why didn't Mike just sack Ivy, who is a huge stirrer and ringleader and never have her back.
Union rules for unfair dismissal.
Luckily unions stop bosses wielding such awful power over their employees, as much as the Daily Mail etc want to destroy them.
Fred looks like a Kewpie doll. 😊
Ooh 😮.....its percy sugden 😊
Thought that was Percy sugden why is he called Jack then
Yes,Same actor- Bill Waddington playing a different character,as this being 1978,Percy Sugden joined the street in 1983.He also played the best man at Emily's 2nd wedding as George in 1980 or 1981
@@ROBDV-7-9-6-5 Wasn 't he the one who turned out to be already married? (Emily 's second husband) I prefered Ernie ' he was far nicer ' and treated Emily far better.
@@paulfrost8895 Yes he was already married,-Arnold Swain was his name.I also much preferred Ernie Bishop to him
@@ROBDV-7-9-6-5 It was great for me being able to see him playing a different role since I live in America and my knowledge is limited.
Percy the loan shark😅😅😅
It was great until shouty Kevin Webster 's arrival,
You'd think plumbing would be profitable. The way Len & Ray borrow money it doesn't seem so
2:46:44 "I could eat an orse" as she sticks her teeth out like a horse
Is Ida's daughter Alan Carr in drag?

The lollipop man
If Fred married Bet wouldn’t she get half the pub if they divorced?
Y didn't Alf let bet rent he's old house and the girls buy Hilda a new brush and then everyone would be happy and in game full employment
Ivy Tilsley the most evil character on a par with terry duckworth. Sadly the woman didn’t need to act, seems it came naturally.
How was she evil?
She was horrible. So many religious people are.
Eric Summers is Percy Sugden!! :-)
I don't quite know why but I always feel that Renee should be wearing a duffle coat.

Alcoholic Street
Mrs walker sure was a judgemental one
Mrs Walker and Ena Sharples were the moral compass of the Street and neither of them minded telling people when their behaviour fell short of what was accepted.
Dreary deidre
