OMG! Here I am, a Kiwi, living in Hawai'i aged 76 yrs and watching these old gems takes me back to NZ way back, when that theme music would hv us running in front of the TV to catch up on the latest on Corrie St. Thank you for uploading these old gems. Jean Alexander was by the far the best British actress. She was iconic not only in Corrie but Last of the Summer Wine. She was simply amazing and she is very sorely missed. She could have taught these talentless hacks today a thing or two.
The argument between Ernest & Emily in 1976
'I am going out now and when I get back I want Mavis out and an apology for that last remark'
    Their argument today in 2024
Emily - ' Who the hell do you think you are talking too?'
Mavis has moved in, hell bi**h is on the electoral roll before he blinks.
Ernest arrives home - Emily and Mavis are pissed as F on white wine, blaring out Taylor Swift and his shit is outside on the street. Universal Credit have been told he's left and B is now single.

Thank you ever so much for uploading these!! I honestly appreciate it the most! Loved it when Hilda starts singing "They Didn't Believe Me" at the top of her voice whilst putting her washing up. By God, it makes me smile. Every second of these episodes. And to sadly see the last of Minnie Caldwell (incidentally my most favourite character along with Elsie and Ena) was something worthwhile. She was the cutest character in the program. And also the scene with Gail, Elsie and Hilda is hilarious at 2:25:22 especially when Hilda says "Are you trying to make a monkey out of me?" 🤣🤣 Anyway, thank you again!

Daran little was given the job of choosing the coronation street episodes, for Granada Plus, but was told not to go to B&W, episodes, as nobody would watch them, so in the end he plumped for Elsie Howard (Tanner) return, 5th April 1976.this is also the first episode for producer Bill Podmore, who was responsible for what many would call “The Golden Age” of Coronation Street from.1976-1982

Stan & Hilda never mention their daughter either!
Plus Ken has a very standoffish attitude to Stan & Hilda considering his brother married their daughter!!
I suppose way back then, viewers werent so eagle eyed & inquisitive to past story lines & their continuity as we are today!
I loved the storylines back then though!
It certainly was Britain's best loved soap at one time!
We lived abroad alot in those early days & my uncle filmed the episodes to send us as we missed Corrie so much!
    No chance now!
Corrie hasnt been up to much these last 20 odd years
Different lifestyle back then & how we viewed & what we accepted then is a trillion miles from todays viewing & expectations!
Still the best though these early ones.. triple gold!
    Regards

I’ve never seen this anywhere but Coronation Street; person knocks on house door and householder opens it and steps outside.

2:52:10 Mrs McCluskey from Grange Hill!
And how come Stan's a die hard Utd fan, when he was a Man City fan when they won the league in 68?

2:53:32 The first appearance of Irene "Renee" Bradshaw (Madge Hindle). Duration 1976 to 1980. Her onscreen death (car carsh) was considered shocking after Bill Podmore decided that her and Alf's marriage wasn't working due to lack of chemistry and to elevate Alf to a more dominant character.

Hang on, if Albert Tatlock's daughter Beattie is 60 in 1976 she was born in 1916. I thought Albert was in the trenches at that point... 😉 He went on about it often enough! 🤣

Apparently it was a 'toss coin' situation with Podmore-era Corrie bosses (similar to what happened in "Grange Hill" with the Zammo & Jonah characters) it was a choice to drop either Tricia or Gail when the soap was getting a complete revamp to improve ratings - it was decided to keep the Gail character to develop and drop Tricia instead .....Bill Podmore remedied the 'buddy element' and introduced the Suzie Birchall character as a replacement pal for Gail.

Gail wouldn't get an acting part even in a bad school play ...
