Thank you soooo much, been doing without mine for weeks now been trying to save for a new one, and this fixed it! I am grateful, you ROCK!! 😁
You’re most welcome! Glad you got it up and running! Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you. My dishwasher would indiscriminately sound as if the door opened 24/7 for months. I tried to start one day & nothing. Figured the switch was bad, found one local & then found this video which confirmed the switch was bad (owners manual part of the video). Thank you very much.
Well, it didn't work. Calling repairman. 😩
Sorry! I’ve heard sometimes the wire harnesses to the main board can get rubbed and short causing a sporadic door issue! Good luck with your repair!
I've done the same repair on an older model GE. I ordered the part off of Amazon and saved myself a ton of cash. I have also done a washing machine "latch bypass" to cut off the drum spin safety feature. I have no kids in the house, only adults and the machine wouldn't work without an expensive new board. The bypass took three minutes and cost nothing to do. Machine worked great for years, until I bought all new appliances for my new house. Most of these simple repairs are on RUclips.
Thanks for taking time to share your experiences. 👍
I’m definitely saving this video for my home repair playlist, just in case!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for making this video. I took my dishwasher door sensor off cleaned off the sensors and voilà it works. I’m sure eventually it’ll break down but for now it’s working just fine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would not have known how to do it if you had not put that video up on RUclips. Many thanks.
You’re most welcome, glad the video helped you out! Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you very much for this video. I appreciate you looking out for the regular Joe.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I always look out for the regular Joe because that’s who I am too! 👍 💪
Great video. I have repaired my washer, dryer, & fridge so far. I have never worked on a dishwasher, but I am sure it is coming! It is amazing how many folks today just buy a new appliance when something goes wrong and never even attempt to repair it.
Awesome you repair your own stuff! Lots of folks have the throwaway mentality. It’s at least worth an attempt to repair it.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Interestingly for mine, it was not showing the error code (flashing lights) so I ruled the door switch out. I saw many other potential causes/cures but none of them worked either. I decided to cut the power to it for a few minutes and after I turned it back on and hit start, then the start light and the light on the front of the door started flashing. I held the Select Cycle and Start buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds and got the same flashing lights, so I'll be ordering a new door switch post haste. Thank you very much for the very detailed video. You save me a bunch of money and aggravation, which is appreciated beyond measure right now.
Glad you found the video helpful!
This is super helpful. Thank you. I have repaired my appliances myself (I'm a Gramma) several times after many LONG hours spent learning how to do it on RUclips. Your quick 'how-to' is soooooo much better!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I posted to help someone like yourself who may be having trouble and needs a little repair guidance! Hopefully this video can save someone from a major headache!
Subscribed. Thank you so much for this detailed video!
Thanks for the sub! Hope this video helped you!
I have an even cheaper fix: since the latch is apparently slightly worn down from usage, and the door, when closed, isn't being detected as closed, I placed a piece of electrical tape around the triangular door piece on the door which makes the two parts slightly more snug. And it worked. Now when it closes, the two sides "see" each other.
That’ll work too! 👍
Definitely giving this a go! Replaced the latch switch 3 only months ago!
@@bulldog217831 Update: the tape "fix" only lasted a short while. I finally had to replace the switch anyhow, but even then it failed again after a couple months. A repair guy came out and said the circuit board inside the top of the door wasn't detecting the one on the bottom, so it was seeing the door as "open." He couldn't get it to work. A replacement of both would have cost half the price of a new washer, so I opted for a new washer in the end. Bummer.

Thanks for the update. Tried the tape trick & no go. Ordered the switch & striker for the door side & hopefully it’ll buy me a couple of months, but I see a new dw on the horizon.
Thanks so much for the great video and explanation! I haven’t been able to use my dishwasher for a year! I am ordering my new switch today.
Glad it was helpful! Hope the repair goes well for you!
This is exactly what my dishwasher is doing. I replaced the door switch but it didn’t fix the problem. Does that 815 error code flashing sometimes mean something else??? Thank you!
I suggested to another commenter to trace the wire back and spray wire terminal connections with electrical contact cleaner available from Lowes/Home Depot. It fixed his problem! The connections at the main board oxidize or corroded. Be sure to turn power off etc before doing this. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much!!!!!!
You're most welcome! 👍
Great video, thank you so much. However, there are no screws to take the sides off. There are, what appears to me, bolts as if the screws are on the other side. Is there anything else that I am not seeing?
Thank you!!!
You're most welcome!
Thank you for the video! Same model, same symptoms... I've done exactly what you described, and the dishwasher worked for a few cycles, but then the same issue returned. Any suggestion as to what the next step would be?
The next step would be to follow the wire that goes to the switch back to the main board, make sure no damage to the wires. If ok, then
Check to make sure the connections for the wiring aren’t corroded or oxidized at the main board. If corroded you can try contact cleaner available from any reputable hardware supplier. Hope this helps you!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD I did just that - it worked! There were no visible issues (like corrosion), but I cleaned what I could, plugged it all back in, and it's running its first cycle since it stopped. Fingers crossed... Thank you again!
Thank you
You're welcome! 👍
Any suggestions for a GE dishwasher with no lights at all? Had the problem a couple of months ago and rectified it by pushing a combination of buttons and switching off the breaker. It's happened again and that sequence no longer works. But there IS power to the dishwasher
From what you have described, my first thought would be the main board as the culprit. Possibly could be the user interface board (buttons board less likely but a possibility). An electrical meter will be needed to confirm which has failed.
Hope this helps!
Before you all go this far down the rabbit hole, please try unplugging the connector from the bottom of the control panel that leads to the upper touch panel. Clean with CRC electronic spray cleaner (both male and female ends) and replug it in. This connection leads to intermittent power issues with this model.
This switch was 100% bad!
Thanks for the helpful suggestion if some folks are still having trouble!
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD not a switch ...just an electronic connector, but I'm glad I could help.
So for this custom install did you just remove the interior trim panel and not the full kick plate? We’re about to fix ours since the spring inside the latch broke and wondering if we can avoid sliding it out and get to it this way. Either way, super helpful video so thank you!
You might be able to lower the front feet and let it lean forward enough to get to the switch. You don’t need a lot of room to get the switch out! Hope this helps, stay safe!
Mine did this one it was delayed I followed what they thet told me to do and and it worked fine. But this one is different I can't remember what they told me to do and it's not coming up on the the video please help me get it back on
Same dish washer, different problem. No power, no lamps on. Checked outlet, OK. Any ideas?
120v Power comes in to main board first on side of the washer. Then main board sends control power out to other board/displays. Could even be the touch panel board/display on door.
Hope this helps!
I changed the lock and it is still beeping. When I press Select Cycle and the Start button, all lights light up and 815 flashes. Is this the code for a door lock?
Great video. Any idea on how to "get around" the switch and trick the dishwasher into thinking the door is closed? If the part failed once, it will fail again.
Not really a good way to bypass on that particular model. It can be done but would require other components that would probably cost as much as a spare switch and take twice as long to perform!
Update: I figured it out. My GE dishwasher is a different model vs. the one in the video. I replaced the switch and it worked for 6 months or so, then it acted up again. I took the 3 wires and connected them together with a wago connector. (I had nothing to lose as it wouldn't start). I checked the voltage and tested my theory by jumping the wires in the existing connector before I cut anything. It started without any problem. ***Note: with these 3 wires connected all the time, the dishwasher won't "know" when the door is open or closed. Do this at your own risk. @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
Update: This has been working fine for over 6 months. I do have an on-off switch in the outlet to disconnect the dishwasher when it isn't in use versus unplugging each time. As stated before, do this at your own risk.
I replaced door switch, but same issue is still occurring. Any tips or advice?
The next thing that comes to mind is the main control unit on side of the machine or possibly a damaged wire between the door switch and main board! Hope this helps!
I was excited to try this fix, but I still have the problem. What do I do next?
Main board or wiring between seems to be the next most common issue! Hope this helps!
How to check main circuit.
Do you know anything about a dead ge but when I reset it by flipping breaker it works for a day or sometimes a week. It’s not kicking a breaker.
I’m unsure of what could be causing your issue. (Guess would be main board?) Sorry you’re having trouble!
What’s really ticking me off is that I had the same problem and replaced the switch with the genuine GE part 3 months ago and it’s doing it again! I only do 1-2 loads of dishes a week. Annoyed that it failed so quickly!
This is a very common issue unfortunately. Sorry that you’re having issues again. It is surprising that you only got 3 months out of a new part. Any power surges or outages, thunderstorms etc to your residence recently? Trying to think of something that may have caused premature failure…. then again could be issues with the main board too. Hard to say. Good luck in getting it fixed up again!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD Yea…. It was the main board. Which isn’t available anymore. Ended up pulling it & replacing it. Thanks for the info though. I really appreciate it. Was worth a try.
We just changed our control panel and the door latch. The lights work now, but it still beeps 3 times and flashes the orange light. Any idea what else is wrong?
Maybe check wiring connections for corrosion? Check for physical damage to wiring as well. Hope this helps!
How do you test the part for continuity? Ordered the part and it didn't fix it which would be the board next yikes.
Use basic electrical meter to test the switch and wire to help determine the issue. Activate switch manually while meter is connected to check operation! Hope this helps!
What do I do if I have no power to it at all?
Could be a multitude of things ranging from; no power to the machine, damaged wiring, bad user interface panel or main board. Hope this help steer in the right direction. Thanks for watching!
Lower board is bad if door switch is good
I'm one of the 10% where the door switch replacement didn't work 😢. Any ideas?
Sorry the door switch didn’t fix it for you. The door switch ties back into the main board. So it could be the wire loom going back to the main board from the switch or the main board itself.
Hope this helps!
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD wound up being the main board. Up and running now!
Awesome that you got it fixed! Good job 👍
Newer GE products suck.
Not built like they used to be! Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
