I was DEFINITELY trying to unscrew the float and didn’t know it was connected the way you outlined. Just wanted to say thanks for the tip and show appreciation for what you saved me from.

I wish these GE float switches were made to be more easily cleaned. I’ve had to replace mine twice because someone washed a dirty cake pan without rinsing it out first. The fine particles gum up this float and I can never seem to clean it out well enough to make it work reliably. At least they’re easy to replace. Thanks for making the video.
Ugh! I was twisting it thinking it would come out. Looks like I’m going under to see how badly I damaged the wires. Bummer! But thank you so much! I learned what I needed from you video. Awesome!
Thanks a lot!! My washer wasn't going through the complete cycles. After watching this I took the float assembly apart and cleaned it. It apparently was so dirty it wouldn't function. Thanks again for the video.
I turned the filter trap sensor a few times, but realized it did not do anything, i'm glad I did. I did not see those screws, due to debris. And I clean it every week. Thanks.
thanks for sharing this information. One comment that seems a little harsh is that the reviews on these parts sites are all fake. Bottom line is "if the part has failed, that part from "so and so" will likely fix the problem. Similarly, the wrong part will simply cost you money. Best advice for avoiding a waste of money, is to higher someone who knows what they're doing. That being said, the way to reduce the risk is to search youtube! So, to all who share their experiences on line, "Thank you!"
Thank you Good Sir! Excellent vid & advice. Poor GE design makes me go GEEZ!!! Your vid stopped me from doing same thing Brother. I was in there replacing circuit board anyway. They fail within 5 years due to heat, water, steam. Glad I replaced float valve as it would not rattle & would go bad. Thx again!

Thank, this is my exact issue. Dismantle and CLEAN the Float is what I need, your dishwasher is same as mine. I’m thinking the heavy mold in the filter area probably caused the float not to work either.

I'm in the middle of working on my float switch, waiting on the part to come in and I did the exact same thing you did, spinning the switch because I assumed it screwed out. I saw the twist in the wiring harness. Just hoping I didn't use as much force as you did and broke the connector. I'll know in 6 days when the part comes in. Of course, it could be something else.
It wasn't the float switch. The next two things to try to replace were two electronic boards- one for $150 and the other for $100. Since my dishwasher was over ten years old, I decided to bite the bullet and just buy a new one. If I would have replace both of those boards, and it still didn't fix the problem, I would have been half way to the cost of buying a new washer, so I just gave up.
Yup, did exactly the same thing and now can't get hold of enough harness to reconnect the flood switch. Tomorrow I'll pull the dishwasher and access the harness from the bottom. Hopefully I didn't damage it.

I hit on the floater and it started shaking again. I guess it was stuck. Now the dishwasher works again but I hear the motor really loud. I know there is a lot of gunk clogged inside. Do you have any advice?
Couple comments - 1, i would make sure all modern appliances are plugged into a surge protector made to be heavy duty enough for that appliance - I hear so much of expensive circuit board failures, and these get hit by big electrical surges, but also get hammered by many small surges, which over time can fry those expensive boards - 2, I just installed a floodstop unit for my dishwasher, have had one for years on my fridge, as twice the icemaker line broke on my old fridge, bad design, tubing mounted to close to hot part of the fridge - my neighbor got the water, straight through his ceiling. These are great, they test the valve once per month to make sure it will actually work when needed, is not frozen shut - and if the sensors detect water they shut off the flow of water to the appliance -
Interesting flow, and edit, as you placed the screen over the hole without first snapping in the upper ring for the filter to lock into. CLIP,… EDIT,… no mention that you edited out taking the screen back out, installing the upper collar, and re-installing the screen, -poof- , edit,… done, and NO MENTION… for anyone following your steps, you faked them out. Smh. But I understand. I was baited into it, and fess up to it…
The float was stuck in the up position which opens the switch cutting power to the inlet valve. Once the float was freed up it drops back down allowing the water to run again.

I have a dish washer just like this, it is not draining and when I try washing my dishes, the water goes everywhere on my floor, what’s the issue?
