Exactly. Disney is a soulless mega corporation. They’re not entitled to our loyalty, and especially not to our money.
It’s not the fans job to consume everything with a Star Wars label attached unquestionably. It’s Disney’s job to prove their shows are worth watching in the first place.

Can't ever admit the content they are putting out is crap and that the people they are making this stuff for don't consume their media.

@@saberiandream316 Well they've tied their virtue to liking the brand. If everyone who doesn't like these shows are racists, or sexists... their egos literally cannot allow them to NOT like it. Because if even a semblance of "I don't... think this is very good..." enters their psyche, it gets rebutted immediately by the "No, but I'm not like THOSE PEOPLE..." That's why Disney has weaponized division. It's a form of compartmentalizing, people as "others" and radicalizes them.

I like the spaghetti western aesthetic though. baby yoda was a huge negative, imo. obvious doll/macguffin that ended up overshadowing the series. I would say I enjoyed Rebels, Bad Batch, and Tales more than Mandalorian. iunno. they're not necessarily better (with respect to dialog), but I can take that level of plot/dialog better in animation. stupid shit like (RIP) Carl Weathers' character speaking like he has brain damage or Cara Dune punching a Mandolorian's armor with her naked fist is just so mindnumbingly dumb in live action.

Ok, let's say you like, no, love a certain restaurant and have gone there since you were a kid, and have had wonderful food and good times there for years. Maybe you're even bringing your own kids there now, and they love it, too. Then, sadly, the original owners want to retire and so they sell it, trying their best to find new owners that will carry on the great tradition that so many love. The new owners seem enthusiastic and promise that they will keep it going and maintain the high standards that have kept people coming back for years.
Your first visit under the new ownership goes ok, but you notice that some things have changed, but not so much that you find it unrecognisable. Then the next time you go, you find that the place has been revamped and the menu altered extensively. You don't want to give up on it, of course- it's been your favourite restaurant for years.
So you bravely order and await your food. It arrives, and you get a sinking feeling that something isn't quite right. You take a bite though and...ugh! What the hell? It's disgusting. You look around the table, and your dining companions seem to be having the same reaction. You realise that your old standby has changed beyond recognition. You voice your concerns to the management, and they tell you that the problem is that you just don't appreciate fine cuisine, and that maybe this restaurant just isn't for you.
You leave in disgust, and when you get home, you call people you know who also loved the place and tell them the bad news. You leave a scathing review on a popular forum. The restaurant loses business over time as more become disgusted at the changes.
Now, is the decline in business your fault, or the fault of the ding-dongs who bought it and then proceeded to ruin it?
Should long time customers just have choked down the substandard food and pretended it was good?
The truth hurts sometimes, but lies don't fix anything. They only make matters worse. You, Thor, speak the truth without malice or any kind of agenda. I can tell that it's painful for you to have to say something Star Wars is bad or mediocre. Pretending everything is ok when it's not just isn't how you roll, and that's one of the things I and many others like so much about you. Keep it up, my good man.

@@acesw6124 That would've been cool. They were going for some sort of Avengers thing with the Mandoverse but I think they overdid it. Part of the appeal of the first season of Mando was that it had more personal stakes. In an ideal world, we would've gotten a second season that simply continued Mando's story instead of introducing new players at any turn and then we would've gotten Andor to test the waters for a different kind of show.

@zetester98 - I love Mando, but it is straightforwardly lowbrow entertainment, full of character actions and motivations, and attack plans that make zero sense (would an advanced, interstellar Empire not think to install a few sensors/cameras in the f**king sewer/drainage system? Not once, but over and over and over? 😂). Horrible acting and line deliveries (sorry Gina Carano), etc.
      It's basically a 1950s, 3rd-tier comic book.
I get some of the criticism of The Acolyte, but they could just as easily be made against the stuff fans like...even including Andor.
I don't think the hate is really towards the show itself, but mostly the (supposed) politics behind it.
And, no, I don't think the show is remotely "woke", unless simply depicting _implicitly_ non-hetro characters who aren't white equals f**king "woke".
Yeah, the show isn't a masterpiece of cinema, but it's an interesting, entertaining show with acting and plot logic mostly better than anything we've ever gotten from The Mandalorian.
Why is it so hard for so many to look past the _behind-the-scenes_ politics and just judge the show on its own merits?

@@BugRib As you said, people generally liked Andor. You don't really hear many complaining about it being woke, and it's by far the "wokest" think to come out of Star Wars. It's 12 episodes of anti-fascist propaganda, with a lesbian couple and loads of non-white characters. People loved it anyway because it was well-made. Don't let a few bad apples fool you into thinking all criticism directed to Disney Star Wars is devoid of substance. I personally didn't find the Acolyte to be as bad as Kenobi or Boba Fett, and there was certainly a sentiment of bias against it in the fandom (undestandably, considering the amount of oxshit we've been served so far). You could especially notice it in things like the fire in space scene, that was made out to be a big deal when the exact same thing happened in Phantom Menace and not even RLM pointed it out in their all-out war on the movie. However, a lot of criticism against the Acolyte is very much valid. My personal grudge with it is how inconsistent the characters were. I agree that Mando has a lot of issues too, though.

RUclipsrs didn't do any of that, Lucasfilms did. It seems like the recurring problem with Disney Star Wars has been not having a plan, combine that with the whole "The Force is Female" thing and well here we are.
If anything all the criticism from RUclipsrs has kept me better entertained than Lucasfilms has, if the whole 'Fandom Menace' were a 'small' part of the fandom like we kept hearing it shouldn't be a problem. Hey Thor, I've been wondering about droid sentience lately and why Star Wars rarely takes it seriously. I even think that people applauding clone sentience and individuality is a bit of a double standard when those same people dismiss droids as merely extensions of their creators. Even though Rex famously denies this, the fact is that clones are programmed to obey orders without question and are manufactured. Most clones only have limited independent thinking and a clone being able to live outside a military is incredibly rare. The only reason they develop individuality is because of experience. But the funny thing is, droids develop individuality for the same reason. The only difference is that droids regularly have their memories wiped specifically to prevent them from developing individuality and potentially rebelling. There's a moment in Heir to the Empire where Luke is asked why he has never wiped C-3PO's memories in all the years he's known him, and Luke reveals that he's uncomfortable with the idea of stripping his friend of individuality. And I don't know if you have played KOTOR 2 yet, but there's a mission where HK-47 argues with HK-50, who dismisses him as obsolete. But HK-47 argues that he is superior because he has developed individuality and has given himself a higher purpose and meaning because he has never had his mind wiped. These examples show that droid sentience should not be played for laughs so much in the franchise. In fact, I think the galaxy is overdue for a galaxy-wide droid revolution just to show people that sentient droids deserve equal treatment.
This is actually addressed in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Measure of a Man" where Lt. Data's rights are debated because he's an android and I wish Star Wars had something similar.
    What do you think?

No one necessarily thought you weren’t a person by and large just because you were a slave they just didn’t care. In SW keeping your toaster from growing a soul is just a matter of regular maintenance, but even if it did most people wouldn’t care about it remaining in the same legal status of any other machine.

The reasons are twofold, if summarized. One: just like Thor said, Disney bought not only a franchise, but also all the fans that were attached to it. So the fans will want to see more of the universe they grew up with, ergo you can't really do away with what has been established. Two: the astonishing lack of creativity, competence, and care for this franchise is a major barrier against anything of quality, or anything truly Star Wars from coming out of Disney.
I can't stress this enough, Katheleen Kennedy has to have a beef with George Lucas, because she spites the work with a passion that I haven't seen elsewhere. What she wants to do is ultimately transform the Star Wars universe made by George Lucas into her own universe, with her agenda and her own views. And because said view conflicts with the established story, she has to uproot what has been there before, or pave over it. That's why we see flagrant disrespect for the classic characters, that's they don't give a damn about breaking the lore, that's why they go the extra mile to blame you, the old school fan. Because you don't just love what they make.
Their definition of a "fan" is a mindless drone who just consumes without questioning. And they need this because anyone with a minimum of critical thinking will notice something is off in their productions.

I remember that, even back in the eighties and nineties, every new movie would have a review in the newspaper on the day it came out. Even if you intentionally decided not to read it, you would often pick up the star rating just by accidentally glancing at it. Not only that, but if a movie was any sort of a big deal, the kids who saw it opening weekend would all talk about it in school on Monday, the box office numbers would be read on the evening TV news, etc. I feel like it's been normal to know what other people think about movies since long before RUclips existed.

I do enjoy watching your videos and getting an idea of what other people think about these shows or movies, but I ultimately decide if I want to watch them myself or not, because I think the only way to really judge if a show or movie is bad or good is to actually watch it. To be clear, I don't have anything against people who don't watch the show, especially if they are not interested or may not watch because of who's working on it. I just wanted to say that I mainly watch your videos for entertainment or to maybe learn something that I didn't know about Star Wars, not to decide whether to watch a show or not.

I agree from the opposite camp... I didn't stop watching shows because of youtubers, I stopped watching because continuing to watch without being selective seemed to reward my viewership complaints like an abused spouse.
If I don't like what I am consuming I do no-one any favors if Disney isn't changing due to input.
They are spending billions on market research and getting flooded with data and making poor decisions anyways.
I don't listen to Thor's "opinion" to decide on whether to watch I listen to strictly the facts of what content looked like to the RUclipsr, then I decide if anything in that description was worth watching.
For example a really stupid fun movie released a long time ago: "...a man punches a hole in a cow..." I see things like this and I ask myself "is there any way this could be funny/good/interesting?"
If the answer is "yes" I will give it a watch regardless of reviewer opinions, then stop watching if their opinions are all validated where I disagreed looking at given facts if they disliked it.
In other words, I don't look at these reviewers for opinions on if I should watch, I look at them for REASONS to watch... If Disney can't provide those in advertising, or to the RUclipsr's who I can see WAS a fan of the original works, that's on Disney for making inferior products the market doesn't want, because again they spend millions to billions on market research.
I am not unreasonable as a fan either, I would love nothing more than to see a show about a star Wars diner in a galaxy far far away, making cheap grub and supplying space truckers/tourists, intersecting with the occasional high stakes narrative or cameo from more action oriented series, but Disney has to make the effort and show creative courage and IP loyalty for their consumer to make stuff like that.

I watch youtubers to get an idea of what the show is about, if i am interested enough, whether the show is good or bad, i watch it (via pirate sites first, i dont want to subscribe to a streaming site to watch something unless i know for sure itll offer up some damn good content) or at least watch parts of it. For the acolyte only watched two episodes, i already got the overall plot synopsis up to episode 6, so i watched episode 4 cause i wanted to see the jedi fight smylo, that battle felt way to damn flashy and poorly choreographed to me, then i watched the final episode with a friend when that released. I pretty much knew exactly how the story would end, and from the plot synopsis alone i could tell i wouldnt be able to watch the whole thing through honestly.

And honestly it isn't even for the reasons you assume.
All great stories need to end. Return Of The Jedi was a great ending for the story. If we have to keep dragging characters through further "adventures" because we can't let go of them we are just torturing them for our amusement. By extending the story their big accomplishment in ROTJ was just a small hurdle in a never ending obstacle course that means nothing. Every attempt to extend the story past that ending is redundant. This includes the Expanded Universe just as much as Disney's content.
On the flip side trying to create new ideas and slapping a Star Wars name on it is bait and switch marketing to capitalize on brand loyalty. These products don't deserve the loyalty they are getting by riding on George's accomplishments.
They will continue to crank out content and it will continue to water the brand down into meaninglessness until finally the market is no existent enough to not make it worth their while to try milking the dead cow.

I presented a rational argument for why the franchise is dead. Flash Gordon was a big thing when George Lucas was a kid and it's largely forgotten today. Gone With The Wind used to be the most successful movie of all time until it wasn't. That is how time works. We will both be dead in 100 years and Star Wars will be irrelevant. In 100 years nobody will remember you or I existed.
As far as acting like a petulant child YOU are the one doing that. You chose to have a tantrum on my comment to Thor because my words hurt your feelings. I didn't come searching you out.
You are butt hurt for one of thwo reasons:
      1. You love what Disney is doing with the franchise and are mad that I think it is shit
      2. You are naive enough to think Disney gives a shit about you, and are willing to fix it for you, and you refuse to have that belief challenged
As I proved above there is no question IF Star Wars will die. It's only a matter of WHEN it will die. I don't expect Star Wars to be erased from our minds. We will remember it until the day we die. But it will never be what it once was. Future generations aren't going to care about it. It will be forgotten just like us.
I understand your position. I used to think Star Wars could be saved too. But then I took some time to actually think it through and I realized the inevitability of time. Save yourself endless frustration and let go of your attachments.

That movie really left me a bad taste, and in short time I realized that this happened to almost every Star Wars fan. You can see in Rotten Tomatoes that the Star Wars audience went south after the Last Jedi, that was the point when they lost the fans. Disney's actions helped to create channels like this. Without them, we would be voiceless. It is not that we are sheep. It is that there is more democracy in these channels than Disney. They have a better intuition of what the fans want than Disney.

But when I saw your video praising rogue one, solo, and Andor, I thought it might be a good idea to watch it again, and it was! After watching your video something in my mind clicked and I watched Rogue One with the perspective that it’s a really great movie and I ended up paying attention and liking it a lot more. Perhaps the downward spiral Star Wars has been in recently may have swayed that opinion, but I really believe that what you and other creators such as Star Wars theory can have an influence on what I think about certain aspects of Star Wars, it’s like having a second opinion. And same with the acolyte but reversed, I did enjoy the first 2 episodes but then I started digging and realized the writhing and plot have no place in the story! And I couldn’t enjoy it anymore, even though it looked really cool 😂

The problem is the content. One thing I hate the most about modern Disney (among others) is the absolute laziness of deflecting criticism. Everyone is a racist, sexist, or toxic. Make good content. People are desperate for good content. But the state of the Star Wars fandom is a creation of Disney. Executives and show runners that hate Star Wars and don't respect anything about it. They don't want to make good Star Wars content. They want public therapy sessions that they paint over with a thin covering of Star Wars and then inflict on the audience.
You'd still have negative videos even if things were great since you can't please everyone. But people wouldn't be looking for channels either moderately or severely hating on Disney Star Wars. Because they'd be too busy enjoying it. So long as Disney fans and staff are blindly hating on everyone pointing out their problems they'll keep on making them. No one cares about Skeleton Crew because people are just done.

It's classic deflection tactics. The most prominent voices with the largest audiences just happen to be RUclipsrs, and these apologists cannot stand to see so many people agreeing with these abominably evil critics.

I just think we all have to remember we are human with biases, incentives, and other personal factors impacting our opinions. Taking a step-back and realizing this and still not seeking out other opinions is like someone doing a research paper in school and using Wiki as their only reference. If you truly wish to formulate your own opinion and do not wish to watch the original content yourself, than I would suggest following or at least watching videos of YT who have an opposing opinion on the show(s). Give yourself a more balanced view of things.
But then again, some people like Thor said, don't want to. They chose to migrate toward those with similar opinions "like draws to like" sort a deal. They want other people to reinforce thoughts they already had so if that's the case then influencers aren't doing anything but confirm opinions already set in place by a large number of people. As that posting commented about "back in the day" people watched the content than talked about it. They most likely talked about it to people with like opinions. Again most people do not form friendships with people with opposing viewpoints to their own. People are naturally drawn to those with similar points of view.

It sometimes frustrates me how obtuse certain people are about the way fanbases and general audiences react to media -- it is entirely natural and proper that one would seek to express opinions, positive or negative, on a product they purchased, especially media of some sort. Stating that most people just become mindless sheep when they choose to go online, choose to search up reviews on a show or movie or book they've watched, and choose to click on a particular review which in many cases is obviously less than positive on its face, and choose to watch it through, sometimes liking and/or commenting is deluded or just a disingenuous argument. It is mostly the quality of the media that dictates popular responses in reviews, conversation, and viewership numbers.
The commenter in this case also appealed to a mythologized past where everyone just enjoyed Star Wars and such in a silo, and was all the better for it. While I'm sure some people had this experience mor or less, even before the internet there were certainly plenty of people talking about Star Wars in an equally contentious and impassioned manner, either in their own circle of friends, fan clubs, via letters to magazines, newspapers, or even directly to the creators for whatever that was worth, and so on. Humans are nothing if not social, andjust because that sort of social environment and extraneous media is more accessible than ever doesn't mean the same or similar degree of passion, again, positive and negative both, did not exist previously. Even if more people are engaged with it directly than before, that doesn't mean their experiences aren't genuine, just that they were better able, with less effort, to find an outlet to understand and test their own feelings and opinions on the subject.
