    Prometheus was surprisingly good, I think Dr. Shaw was a really great protagonist, and I wish that they continued her story into the next one. Sidenote the 4K on this movie looks absolutely amazing if y’all have not bought it yet.

    I don’t love this movie but I really like it. I appreciate all the technical aspects as well as the premise even though it doesn’t address all the questions it brings. Also, if you think about it, this is the movie that starts all (chronologically speaking) thanks to David exercising something he wasn’t able to have: free will. So, we don’t know why or how this happens.

    I loved this film when it came out, flaws and all. The thing is I think we tend to hold the first two Alien films to such a high standard that it becomes easy to forget that those films also had flaws and improbabilities that we scrutinize in films now more than ever. For me, the worst film in the Alien franchise is 3 followed by Resurrection. If only because they both derailed the momentum and story building that Aliens established. For me, Prometheus reignited that momentum. Covenant arguably did the same thing that 3 did by being subversive but I still like it better than 3 because it managed to still move the needle forward into unknown territory. My only hope is that Romulus somehow connects the dots with covenant (if even passively) so that a full narrative is established between all the films.

      Totally agree with you. I was totally on board with the franchise going in the “engineer” direction. A lot was cut from the theatrical version which would have definitely elevated this film. Unfortunately, studio interference and money counters forced Ridley to scrap his version of the successor to Prometheus, and make Covenant to try to please everyone…. I really would’ve liked to know more about “ Paradise.”

    • @extofer
      @extofer Месяц назад

      @@matthewmccarty6508 me too. Reading the Prometheus script made me a bit sad for this reason. The backstory is so intriguing. They could have gone so much deeper and I would have eaten it all up. I am happy with what we have but if they had done right by this story, it would have been elevated to greatness on par with Alien and Aliens.
      My biggest nitpick is that Ridley Scott decided to pull an Alien 3 and kill off Shaw off screen for Covenant. There was just a lot of forward momentum at the end of Prometheus and to subvert expectations at that moment felt so terrible.

    Disappointing movie for me. Better than Resurrection but that isn't saying much. As usual for Ridley Scott movies the visuals were superb and looked great on the cinema screen. Found the acting and the characters very hit and miss but the movie was saved by the performance of Noomi Rapace, well supported by Michael Fassbender. Agree on the Theron character and even more so with some of the smaller roles. Rapace's surgery scene plus the trip back inside the ship with Weyland were standouts. Good music score. Like Resurrection it had a few standout scenes but for me it's below the first three movies in the franchise. Can kind of see why Scott pulled the plug after Covenant and decided to take on a production role and leave the directing to others. Enjoyed your review.

    I love Charlize Theron but I agree with you on her. Case and point, her character didn't even think to run left or right from the falling engineer ship. Otherwise, I like Prometheus quite a bit. It almost works better to me as a standalone sci-fi movie separate from the rest of the films.

      @@ICE9RLN0 I can’t say I agree, honestly. Having just recently revisited all of these films, there isn’t truly an abundance of established lore set up in these films after the first two. Ridley Scott added a lot with this one and the tone felt very Alien. Way better than 3 and Resurrection.

    • @ICE9RLN0
      @ICE9RLN0 Месяц назад

      @@AnthonyAPerez I think of three and resurrection as a fever dream Ripply has in hyper sleep. Alien is more of a gothic horror where as Aliens made it an action horror film. However, the idea that the company sent a crew to investigate the alien spacecraft after all this happened is a little hard to believe. Ash knew what was on that planet before he came down and wanted to bring it back. But why would they want an alien when they could have the black goo?

    • @AnthonyAPerez
      @AnthonyAPerez  Месяц назад

      @@ICE9RLN0 Sure, but why go for the black goo when you can try to capture a being that you could learn more about. They’ve always chased evolution and the Xenomorphs are killing machines, similar to how some in the Jurassic World films wanted to control raptors.

      @@AnthonyAPerez Prometheus is certainly in the ALien world, without a doubt, but i think they tried to tell a different story and the sales in the B.O. didnt meet expectations so they canned Prometheus and followed up with ALien Covenenant which was just another ALien movie with little tie ins to Prometheus, Also is you notice the title: Prometheus, not ALien: Prometheus. All the other ALien movies are ALien: Covenant, ALiens, Alien3 , Alien: Ressurection and so on. Also the alien theme music is usually this ruclips.net/video/IpMZ2-91q2g/видео.html . @@sirbantzalot Well, I definitely still think it’s an Alien film, cause it is. However, I understand why it feels different. For me, I appreciate how different it is and that it has its own identity in the franchise. So many people complained that they didn’t know it was a prequel or that it was an alien film, or that it didn’t feel like one. I bet if that wasn’t the case, Scott would’ve called the next one just Covenant.

      @@AnthonyAPerez . Yeah, im hoping for a continuation of the Prometheus/Engineers etc, but i know it will ever happen. Prometheus was one of those classic movies that people didnt realize right off until they went home and though about it.
