Please do a video on Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. That show is very important in teaching other anime how to create real characters that are people. Not stereotypes.
I would like to talk about the whole seat belt thing: The mechanism that keeps you from slamming your face into your dashboard locks the belt from giving any more slack. This (as far a I know, and moreso in older cars) mechanism is a weight on a slide. If the weight goes forward, i.e. the car stops suddenly, it locks the belt from loosening any. If you plunge your car in water, the car will be nose-down, and therefore the weight will be stuck in the forward position, therefore seat belt permanently locked. Secondly, since the car is nose-down, it becomes harder to push your way out of the seat belt since your legs have a harder time a) getting a firm surface to push off of, especially underwater (b) the body of a child might not have the proper strength or leg length to accomplish this. I don't think it's quite as easy as you might believe. Also, if he modified the buckle, he might also have made the belt particularly tight. I don't think this scene is quite as flawed as you guys think it is. If you made it this far, thanks for your time.
The weight of the belt wasn’t affecting him that much shown through the scenes so I highly doubt it was that, also I doubt the creators went that into depth in that scene. Another way he could have gotten out was kicking the basketball from the accelerator and or steering the wheel away after or before, the whole coma thing felt so lazy and rushed I really disliked how they did that. For me I like to pretend it ended at episode 9 or 8.
I'm not subscribed to either of you, but I sat through this and I understood both sides better that watching that one 13 minute video. I agree more with Mother's Basement here. As someone that watched this weekly, sitting on the cliffhangers in this series is definitely part of the experience. Usually I can predict when a show is slowing down to tease the cliff hanger, but almost every one that came up in this series caught me off guard - where I had lost track of time. And while waiting for the next episode I was trying to piece together how things would turn out as they had managed to so consistently surprise me. With the teacher being so obviously foreboding, I assumed it was a red herring: that continued to work on me (to a point) as there were so many chances for him to interfere or switch targets yet he was so patient and helpful that I didn't really believe the show was legitimately making him the villain. It also threw me off that he seemed to recognize the killer in the present, but still didn't suspect the teacher in the past. When I had a week to stew on this stuff I actually kind of overthought some things, so parts you found obvious made my experience interesting the whole way through as the tempo set up in earlier episodes put me in the same mindset as the main character - overthinking things and denying the obvious. That may just be me though.
Well, after watching it all, Geoff did a decent job of defending Erased. But I have to question Digibro's methodology for judging series if he can't pay attention to anything he doesn't like. He said that he pretty much spaced out after a few episodes and never really understood anything after that. Yet he still decided to comment on it, like he had something meaningful to say. When really the only point he ever made the entire 3 hours was, "I didn't' like it." That's fine, I just wish it wasn't contrived reasons born from a lack of attention and interest. And he tout's that around like it's such a powerful perspective, as made proof by all the people who agree with him. I think there is some confirmation bias going on, but that's just my guess.
I get where he's coming from because honestly, a show can't be a successful show if it's not engaging. If a piece of media can't capture anyone's attention, it essentially is failing at conveying what it's trying to convey no matter what the content is. That said, he is ignoring the fact that heavily basing your opinion of a show on whether or not it engages you personally also means you are imparting an ENORMOUS bias on your views of media based on your particular likes and dislikes. You can't exactly take that view as an indicator of quality when applied to a general audience.
No duh. Just because opinions are naturally biased doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to make them as objective as possible. Or that it is meangless to try to do that.
but that's the thing, no matter how objective you want to be everything will boomerang back to it your opinion. In reality, when people call another person's thoughts on something biased, what they really mean is "you have an opinion i don't like so I'm going to try to dissolve it with a word that i don't know how to use or where to use it." Literally every single time i see it it's basically within that context and it pisses me off. If i say i don't like something that other people like or vice versa, im called a biased asshole. If i like FFXIII I'm biased towards Squeenix and suck Nomura's cock, if i don't then I'm biased towards WRPGs. You literally cannot win when people use this vacuous word.
557deadpool Sure, but then from your persepctive it's impossible to judge any critique, that seems absurd to me. That means they are incomparable and therfore unusable in any meaningful sense.
That really bothers me to be honest. I know it's mostly his style, but he comes of with a strong unapologetic and somewhat condescending attitude. Pair that with the fact that he presented his opinion so strongly when he didn't even pay full attention seems dishonest and gives off the impression he lacks self awareness. To be fair, a good work of art should be engaging enough for one to not space out yet you can't engage everyone. When somebody ignores the core reason of of why a series was bad or why they didn't like it and present a criticism intended to be an objective review when in actuality missing out on many aspects of it is a disservice to the work of art and their fans. If he was honest and focused on how it wasn't very engaging then myself and the rest of his fans would've gotten a much better idea about Erased and what was wrong with it. Honestly I can understand when somebody gets disengaged and spaces out, but when they present a review like Digi did with Erased I find it hard to trust them.
Just say and listened to the WHOLE DAMN THING. 1) SO many tangents, but it was great to hear you guys talk about everything from movies to games, it provides some great insight into your ways of thinking, and 2) SO glad you guys were able to talk about ERASED in a civil manner, unlike most RUclips threads. Good work, and I hope there's more awesome "debates" between you two in the future!
Yo, Digibro has no chill at all. He was surprised that Geoff liked it when EVERYONE else didn't? Please man, not everyone hated it. No matter how many tweets or whatever you get it doesn't encompass an entire demographic. On average I've seen more people liking it than not. People who don't probably flock to your opinion because you are a minority. Just saying 'everyone' did this and that is frustrating to listen to and it grates the ears. You should really be careful about that. Not like it was the best either, but it wasn't bad. Aside from that, keep in mind that almost all shows have endings that most people don't like. I find it especially true for animes. There are almost no universally loved endings to shows, and most cause people to have a negative reaction to the entire series. This is almost always the case for anime. I can't even think of more than a few animes with endings that were really good. So the fact that Erased actually finished, is probably a strong reason why it is starting to see a drop in people's opinions about it. Last point, although I've watched and enjoyed a lot of your reviews I find your Erased one to be your laziest. I almost thought it was an April Fools joke until I checked my calendar and saw it was early. Your critical style about looking into a show and analysing it's faults was entirely missing, and it was one of the few reviews I've seen were you looked at only the surface level themes and characters and suddenly decided it wasn't good. Obviously the themes and characters aren't great, I was just disappointed that those points are fairly obvious and that's pretty much all you had against it. I go to you for more detail than I or anyone I know can really research or understand without it being explained to us. The Erased review was more of 13mins of butthurt that people seemed to like something you didn't. I love it when you wreck both the things I like, and the things I don't. Personally, I think you should be a bit more careful though. Using BAD and EVERYONE has been common in a few reviews and even though you are stating quite often that this is an opinion piece. I hate Sword Art Online. But I would never say it was bad. I also don't like One Piece. But if I said it was bad I know a few people who would literally kill me.
That opening with Asian Kung Fu Generation was soooo good. Plus they used a 12 year old song (during the time of airing) from one of their more popular albums. Definitely brought me back to my childhood listening to it at the beginning of each episode. and yes K-On! has been amazing since it's airing. So happy you love it and can spread it to new fans.
Satoru did not activate his power at the end of episode 6/beginning of episode 7. We see the butterfly which is present whenever his power is activated at the end of ep. 6 before he starts yelling. It was already going to happen before he basically started begging the heavens for it to happen.
hour and 30 mins in for now, so this comment is relevant to then. i'm a characters person tbh, i need good characters in a show to really care about it, hence why a lot of animes out right now bore me bc the characters are just copy and paste stereotypes. i liked erased because kayo is an interesting character.
While I respect the opinions of both guys here, a lot of the time Digibro hadn't noticed 90% of the stuff because he wasn't paying attention or didn't notice it. That's fine, but I don't think one should be saying an entire show is garbage, when a lot of scenes from the show you can't remember. It's valid in this case to say, the beginning of the show was not very good for x, y and z reasons, so it didn't engage me enough and I skimmed over then end. I just wouldn't be able to say Erased is a bad show in that case.
At around 29 minutes, you talked about "suspension of disbelief". I think a future video where you elaborate on that idea would be really cool on any of your channels
I was waiting for this! I really enjoyed hearing both of your guy's perspectives, and how you branched off into other subjects like the anime industry and filmaking. I could listen to you guys talk about stuff for hours. Always entertaining. I especially found your differing opinions on the episode 8 breakfast scene to be interesting and insightful. Now Digi, go watch Ano Hana. And Geoff, go watch Shirobako!
wrt the abuse discussion: I agree that it's fucking weird to show an abused child understanding her situation and being able to explain why she feels the way she does. The heart of abusive relationships is that the victim doesn't think they're being abused. Victims adapt to their situations. They tell themselves (and the abusers tell them) "this is normal" or "I/you deserve this." Portraying abuse inaccurately in fiction just makes the lying easier, unfortunately. Abusers lie to themselves and their victims in an attempt to justify their behavior. Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks "I'm gonna be a cruel, abusive parent today." They come up with some bullshit reason why they HAVE to do it. If I were to write a mother who beats her daughter because her husband beat her, I would have her frame it to her daughter with, for example, "The world is harsh; you need to get used to being treated like this. I'm hitting you because you need to be hit. This hurts me more than it hurts you."
I can't believe how like two hours or so in digi just goes on a tangent about how batman v. Superman has the greatest portrayal of lex Luther put to any medium. How did it even get there
As someone who completed the manga, allow me to give spoilers on how the time traveling works. *Spoilers Ahead* It doesn't, the author never fucking explains how it works. In fact, the manga makes it seem like it really could have been anyone because it only stops when the killer is defeated. Like the killer must have really pissed off a divine power and really wanted to shit of that guy's plans.
It doesn't need to explain it. its a plot point that the author made obvious that he didn't care about its origins and how it work. On this anime case it served its purpose so its more than fine if it doesn't explain. An to be franc i am glad it didnt, because i am sick and fucking tired of every FICTION work needs to be realistic by today public standards when it doesnt matter. When a wizard shoots a god damn fire ball from the palm of his hands i dont need to know why and how, its a fucking wizard and its not relevant. It annoys me how now everything needs to be fake science or "its not believable enough". FUCK OFF (general public not you specifically) its a manga, it doesn't exist and its a nice vehicle used to show interesting from imagination, it doesn't need to be realistic and to explain things that are of no relevance.
+thegreatcheesedemon cause it's not. It's just digi wanting to force his part/opinion of he convo in without letting Geoff finish. Not saying he's doing purposely it's probably just a problem he has during conversations and doesn't realize it.
Having listened to the whole thing now I have a little more understanding why Digi hated it so much, I still disagree with him on most of his grievances though, I'm actually surprised Geoff didn't defend it more but actually agreed most of the time.
Welp, the sad thing is that the "GO BACK!" scene is that in the anime adaptation you could rewrite the scene to make Satoru jump of the bridge and have him go back right before his face hits the ground.
As someone who has no opinion on erased and hasn't watched the show, I've somehow found myself 2 hours and 45 minutes into this discussion having thoroughly enjoyed myself. The difference between how the two of you watched this show is both enlightening and legitimately entertaining. Both of you remind me of two styles of parents. Geoff is like the father who wants to see as much in their child as possible. He just wants to see this succeed because he sees so much potential and there are good moments. Digibro is more like the father of a college student who hasn't moved out yet. He wants to have a good time but can't help being impatient because he constantly feels like time is being wasted. I wonder how much of this is up to the watcher's volition and how much of it is just the kind of person the watcher happens to be when they watch the show.
+Minipolce this is the best comment I have read in this comment section thus far. And to insert my own irrelevant opinion for your question at the end, I feel like it is both. The viewer can be set off for a series based on pre-existing 'hype' for a series which can cause predetermined disappointment and a viewer could be preset mentally to cynically dismantle this type of series based on their own personal experiences. So when people expect everyone to feel the same way about a certain series it is made under the expectation that individuality does not exist. Which is a childish and immature fallacy usually mused over by children.
+MrSomebody54 I think you have a point. It seems like the very subject matter of the show lends itself to greater disagreement since it seems like so much can go into enjoying it or not. I'm thinking in particular of the character who is abused and people's varied and sometimes deeply personal reactions to whatever her portrayal is. I think Digibro's criticism that she wasn't crying over the right food or whatever just goes to show that if you want to portray deeply personal, individual trauma then you invite deeply personal, individual reactions to that portrayal.
I'd just like to say I got into Mother's Basement channel through yours. It's interesting to see a debate like this. In case you're reading this I really liked your what's in a scene videos and I hope you'll do more of those in the future. Also the season 1 Spice & Wolf OP one totally blew my mind. Now it seems so obvious, and makes me like that OP even more.
Episode 23 of Shirobako is a perfect example of what Digi was talking about when he explained why the scene about Kayo's breakfast didn't work for him.
I find it ironic Digi says the show beats you over the head with its themes and symbolism, yet somehow missed so many obvious plot points because he wasn't actually paying attention.
I loved listening to this video. If you had a podcast on like Google play or apple podcasts or whatever, I'd listen to it all the time when I do homework. I'd gladly pay like $1.99/month for this
+WickedAnimeTroll This is the same person who needed to make thirteen 15-30 minute videos to bash The Asterisk War. It's only a matter of time before Digi reaches his final form: DraconisMarchVII.
+WickedAnimeTroll Well, it's either that, or get eaten alive by the people who like Erased for those next 6 months. What better way to debunk some misconceptions, no?
I completely side with Geoff on this one. Honestly, I don't think Digi should have pretended to have a complete opinion on the show and its directing if he was barely paying attention while watching it. But on the other hand, I wouldn't have found either of these guys' channels without Digi's Erased video, so I guess I'm grateful. ...Also, Geoff's Morty impression was better.
YES! 3 hours of this! This is gonna be amazing. I'm very torn on Erased and agree with a lot of what Digi and Geoff said (after I had formed my own opinion of course), so I'm looking forward to this. I love it when people who disagree on shows can discuss their opinions at length. EDIT1: I also love it that it's a discussion between someone who has read (a part of) the original material and someone who has not. I think it's important that adaptations can stand on its own. EDIT2: I'm finally done. This was great. Your conclusion was spot-on: Digi can't overlook problems, and Geoff can. I'm still right in the middle, torn between the good parts of the show, and put off by the bad parts. We all learned something today.
I think I remember reading of a study where it was said that abuse victims DON'T become abusive, most of the time. Pretty much the opposite. Like helping people and being more sympathetic towards other people's blight. Maybe also something about them being more quiet and inverted personalities. Can't quote the said study, it's been years and can't recall in where I came across it.
+V. Korkeamäki its pretty much 50/50, some people know what the experience is like and therefore dont want their family to experience the same things, and the other bunch of people its in their nature to release anger through violence.
Digi, I dunno if you know this now, but from what I hear from reading TVTropes (I cannot clarify this myself so take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt) is that the word "Revival" that they use in the show in the Japanese language is also used when talking about film. Specifically, to rerun a segment or scene of a film. So, at the very least, that kinda explains all the film iconography. I do agree that the director should have changed the main character from a mangaka to an aspiring film director though.
Digi buddy. You really need to learn to let people talk. Once Geoff has finished his points, then talk. It gets really hard to listen to this podcast with you constantly interrupting him every 5 seconds. I value both of your opinions, so I'd really love to be able to hear you both speak, not just one of you.
Digibro. What you're saying about the key difference between ERASED and Steins:Gate basically boils down to the fact that Steins:Gate is a TRUE thriller in every sense of the word. The crime committed at the very beginning comes stocked with one key ingredient: The clue about the villain/antagonistic force's Macguffin. Basically, the ultimate motive behind the crime. That clue is followed through to its absolute end, WITH a false ending thrown in, as every good thriller needs. ERASED dropped the ball in both places and missed its chances at some big red herrings to throw at the audience, as well. ERASED looks like a thriller, but goes about ignoring most of the key ingredients of the genre that would actually make it one. Knowing a bit about genre does help.
I'm hearing a lot of Digibro complaining things are overexplained and shoved down his throat but also a lot of him saying something doesn't work or is out of nowhere and Mother's Basement being like "no like... it's connected to this thing that happened beforehand..." Dude you want more subtleties but you're missing them all
I'm glad Digi brought up how little animation quality can matter if the quality of other elements is notable. My two favorite shows of all time (my favorite is Higurashi and my second favorite is Bokurano) are notable for having below-average animation overall, but achieve excellent quality regardless.
Kay, yo,, 1:49:00 about Kayo. The Kayo thing make sense because her mom is all about facades and appearances, and stressed this to Kayo, because Kayo's appearances reflect on her as a mother. This is noted by the mother when she says Kayo is safe because the mom cares too much about appearances to beat her child if she's getting picked up the next day, and that she's always dressed up in nice clothing, physically dolling her up. So she feels fake, and she sees and hears it from her mothers, and has words for it that aren't her own. You can tell later than her ability to describe and recognize these aspects in others is superficial because she can't correctly identify why people are fake, and she's also wrong a lot. She's a kid who tries to sound smart and believes she's smart but just a kid, but it resonates with the protag because he's 29 and runs with it, like people do with fortune tellers and psychics. The show sucks but pay attention Digi.
Digibro actually seems like a really informed, intelligent person. But his incessant desire to talk down to Geoff and laugh condescendingly all the time at what he says really annoys me.
+BioLizard18 Yeah, my only gripe with this discussion is that Digi frequently interrupts and continues to talk over Geoff when he's making points. Geoff accepts it graciously, but it's a pretty rude habit.
Digi: I thought it was OK The video title: "Erased has always been bad" I can't possibly see where the disconnect could have possibly come from when you specifically said the show was bad and has always been bad and then went to go on about just how bad you thought it was and how you didn't like it, Digi.... Seriously, logic man!
***** I'm not sure of the exact timestamp, but it was pretty early on. Like around the first 5 minutes? Something like that. I commented after I heard it while watching the video, so....
Caleb Sweezy I don't need to review the video, I heard it pretty clearly and typed the comment immediately afterwards. Also, you seem to miss the entire point of my comment. Of course OK doesn't equal bad, OK is completely different. OK is around the middle of the road to generally good depending on your perspective, but, overall, it's way different from saying a series is 2/10, just one step above the worst rank possible.
IMHO Digibro suffers with ignorance and inexperience with people. Kinda lacks empathy resulting in nitpicking. But mostly he is right why he deosn't like it. Its not his thing.
+Kokoru Shinobu and also you can clearly see that MB deosnt have that. HE can EASILY explain why this and that MIGHT BE POSSIBLE THAT WAY and its reasonable in my book, while digibro just cannot picture that possibility...well fuck, then it's jsut you, Digi.
+Kokoru Shinobu jsut gonan give an example. DIGIBRO cannot pciture a real evil Mother liek Kayo's? "ive never seen ..." well SHIT thats you, Digi! I've seen it, hell lots of people who have certain issues COULD act that way if they could abuse someone easily....E.G. their kids. He cannot picture Kayo being that "smart" well shit! She aint exactly smart but realistically speaking theres a possibility that kid who doesnt have a good childhood would meet their maturity a lil bit earlier, and Kayo is on that path. I hope I make sense.
Smart kids have existed throughout the ages. Mothers have murdered their own children throughout the ages. These things, while somewhat rare, are founded in reality. I mean, there have literally been mothers who did horrible stuff throughout history. I don't understand how he can't picture or imagine it, when it happens in reality too. Same exact thing goes for smart, wise or insightful children. I think MB is looking at this through more rationally, and focusing more on in-universe consistency, while DB is trying to relate it to his own personal experiences.
Ill probably never watch a three hour+ podcast ever again lol. I dont watch podcast so I dont know how they normally are but there wasn't enough direction in this for me to get much out of it. Also you guys liked talking over each other and making sure to say what you wanted rather then listening to one another, which is a pet peave of mine. I thought it was going to be more on Erased and I was interested in hearing more on why you thought it was shit and why he thought it was great. You guys both ended up convincing me it was mediocre which is what my opinion already was. I gave Erased a 6 btw. I liked the visuals overall, the OP worked for me,
The manga handles things quite a bit better in the second half. I think ERASED fell trap to not enough episodes and bad pacing particularly in the end. Things are set up, the back story for the villain is much more fleshed out and the reveal and capture much more planned out. Satoru's recovery also is much longer than what they did in the anime. I'd give the manga a shot and see what you thought.
+EbiFamil not really, this is just a podcast, ranting for 3 hours with someone else is easy, you just need some water, a 3 hour video with hundreds of edited clips from the show and a script to follow takes much more work to make
I just love these three hours videos ! It's a perfect background for drawing. More please XD ! I still think that Erased deserves better than a 2/10. I mean this is as bad as SoA in your opinion ? A 4 or a 5, I'd get it but a 2 ? At some point, I was wishing that Kenya was a time traveller too and the killer in a child body. That would have been an unpredictable twist and would have explained how such a smart 8 y-o can be. But obviously it was Yashiro. Obvious bad guy is obvious. But I was wishing for him not to be which is either good or bad. Wait ?! FLCL has flaws ?! How is that even possible !? You got me into K-On and got me over my anti-moe phase, Digi. You've got my thanks for that.
WikiJippo I agree that kids like this exist. But I also agree with Digi when he says that sometimes kids are not talking like kids in Bokudake. I was just thinking that having the serial killer be also a time-traveller would have been quite a revelation. And Kenya was the better fit in my opinion.
Maybe they could have thrown in that kenya and the main character where given the chance to re-correct their life. What could have made this happen would be something related to the ball of film that appears when Satoru gets sent back in time. That would disperse some of the weight behind erased...but it would have given a nice twist like you said.
I did not know you two were friends. This makes me real happy because for a long time I wanted you guys to do co-ops. I would like to know more channels like you guys, can any one please tell me some?
The Pro Crastinators Podcast is a good place to start. It's basically Digi, Geoff, and a bunch of their friends, who are also content creators, getting together and talking about whatever they want. They're not all anime reviewers, and some of them were a bit of an acquired taste for me, but I recommend giving their channels a look.
I gotta admit that I was genuinely concerned for Digi when he said that, when he was younger, he was either gonna become a successful artist or commit suicide. And it bothered me when he said that he didn't like Satoru because he was not as successful of an artist as Digi, despite being older. Not only does it sound self-righteous, but it's gotta be one of the most convoluted and strangely biased reasons for not liking a character. I can understand why being obsessively driven can be seen as a heroic quality, but it's definitely not a healthy philosophy for a person to have, and it is certainly not a good reason to dislike a character who doesn't have that philosophy.
+2it I disliked the show since the last few minutes of episode 1. I find the plot and characters very nonsensical. Anyone who has watched hundereds of episodes of Detective Conan will know that the whole plot and characters (excluding Airi) are nonsense. I have watched until Detective Conan episode 706. I gave it 3/10 in the end. 3/10 is where most anime with many major problems but has redeemable qualities. I heard Erased has tons of potential sadly wasted, I am not surprised as Erased is made by A1 Pictures. Looking at all the A1 Pictures shows made, all of them have tons of potential sadly wasted, for example, SAO, Ao No Exorcist. My friends who have read the manga said that the anime is a trainwreck.
+Goh KH Can't tell if you gave Conan or Erased a 3/10. You said you gave "it" a 3/10 after referring to Conan, its just that I would find it surprising that someone whose watched that many episodes of Conan would find it that mediocre lol
+Romulus Numa You don't want to acknowledge the negatives of a series that you like, but that is the amazing thing about self reflection and introspection. You look at Erased at face value and you see a lot of good things but when a reviewer brings up a lot of negatives about this series that you have dismissed in the past, it makes you see the show in a different light. It is jarring and people don't always respond that experience positively.
MrSomebody54 Yeah, pretty much. At first is anger towards myself for feeling like an idiot for not noticing by myself and then it turns into anger towards the review because now the show's spoiled for me and I can't enjoy it because I now see all those flaws and I'm not that willing to forgive them. I've learn to avoid that for happening, but sometimes it's stronger than me.
Fair enough, one way to defend yourself from having that sort've analysis get to you is to try and look for the negatives of your favorite show on your own so that you'll be more prone to acknowledge its faults and move on. You are probably already doing that from your comment though.
+Doblestorm It's important to remember that flaws one may see as major, might just be minor flaws in the eyes of others. Even if the weaknesses brought up are valid, you can still like something despite those flaws. In fact, no show is perfect, even shows that many consider the best (if you really scrutinize them) still have flaws. I believe if you really like or are a big fan of something, you should completely embrace it. The good, the great, and the not so great.
"Perception that I hate A-1." To be fair you do hate them, no need to explain. Hate them if you want, they do have questionable actions. Just don't feel like your being "targeted".
+Keyblademaster333 He actually *likes* several A-1 picture shows, though. Tsuritama being one (which is a great show.) So yeah, the perception that he hates shows just because they were made by A-1 pictures is wrong, he just happens to hate the majority of them.
Ok this is tripping me out. Only an hour or so before I saw this video, I found and subscribed to mothers basement. God damn talk about good luck, you guys are amazing
Here are some other A-1 Picture shows that didn't go down in my oppinion: Subete ga F ni Naru; the whole Magi series; Nanatsu no Taizai; Shinsekai Yori.
Huh hearing you say that there really isn't anyone before age 17 or something that really still has any influence on you really is something new to me (just like satoru was to you i guess) cause I'm 19 now and I just watched erased and that thing of basically regretting who you've lost along the way and him regretting that day he didn't "save" her was really something I could relate to because even today (and well I know that is still 10 years to go to catch up to Satoru but anyways) there is people (like 2 or 3) that I miss from my childhood, one in particular, my then best friend, who I actually cry about because I actually miss him that much... and yet I'm too scared to talk to him because of how he might have changed by now. Also then there are these friends (basically just one by now, my now best friend) who I've known my entire life and honestly can't even imagine a live without
I'm a fan of both you guys, and after listening to this whole thing I feel like I understand you both much better now. I'd like to inform you that I hate you both and intend to unsubscribe myself from your channels and dislike all your videos. Please, kindly take your opinions with you through that handicap suicide gate.
I really like the show and the things that bothered u didn't bother me. But I always like hearing opposite opinions and I'm definitely intrigued by wat kind of anime u like
THIS IS ALMOST AS LONG AS THE ANIME ITSELF

Please do a video on Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. That show is very important in teaching other anime how to create real characters that are people. Not stereotypes.
This.

Shame that more josei manga don't get anime adaptions like Shouwa. I need to finish the show already.

Kiku and Sukeroku are basically yaoi stereotypes during the flashback, though I like them a lot.
I would like to talk about the whole seat belt thing:
The mechanism that keeps you from slamming your face into your dashboard locks the belt from giving any more slack.
+Brady B the problem is that satoru is shown leaning forward with plenty of slack multiple times during that scene already

When really the only point he ever made the entire 3 hours was, "I didn't' like it."
That's fine, I just wish it wasn't contrived reasons born from a lack of attention and interest.
In reality, when people call another person's thoughts on something biased, what they really mean is "you have an opinion i don't like so I'm going to try to dissolve it with a word that i don't know how to use or where to use it."
Literally every single time i see it it's basically within that context and it pisses me off.
Digi? Geoff? THREE FUCKING HOUR LONG VIDEO?
Oh boy, this is just like Christmas
Digi isn't very good at letting people finish their thoughts... :(
Yo, Digibro has no chill at all.
Things that didn't age well: Geoff and Digi saying they're friends and like eachother.
What happened?
Saw a Digibro post that was 3.5 long.....I nearly cried with joy.

YES!

+max I agree! Erased had great characters
Half-an-hour in, "Let's get into it." Hoo boy.
hi, giselle gewelle
wrt the abuse discussion: I agree that it's fucking weird to show an abused child understanding her situation and being able to explain why she feels the way she does.
Man, between this and the video with you that Gibbon just put up, your laugh is so fun, digi! I love hearing it everytime.
I can't believe how like two hours or so in digi just goes on a tangent about how batman v. Superman has the greatest portrayal of lex Luther put to any medium. How did it even get there
As someone who completed the manga, allow me to give spoilers on how the time traveling works.
*Spoilers Ahead*
It doesn't, the author never fucking explains how it works. In fact, the manga makes it seem like it really could have been anyone because it only stops when the killer is defeated. Like the killer must have really pissed off a divine power and really wanted to shit of that guy's plans.
nope, he just randomly time travels. well, conveniently time travels more like.
Time travelling in this show makes no sense. Because it was based on the main character's emotions. Dafuq
An explanation of how Satoru's time-traveling ability works wouldn't have improved the story. Sometimes less is more.
wow you're stupid lol

This dialogue has GREATLY increased value of ERASED.
Half of this isnt about erased its just them talking about b.s that has nothing to do about erased lmao

Hahahah LoLz
Digi has a serious problem with interrupting Basement.
It's a skype thing.
Talking over him in the middle of a sentence is not a Skype thing. lmao
Rachael Creed Why not?
+thegreatcheesedemon cause it's not. It's just digi wanting to force his part/opinion of he convo in without letting Geoff finish. Not saying he's doing purposely it's probably just a problem he has during conversations and doesn't realize it.
And basement has a problem of not stoping in other podcsats and cutting people too. both of them are kind of bad with that...
Exactly. Because of this fact, there will never be a series that is unanimously enjoyed or appreciated. It just isn't possible.
Right, which both of them point out early on, I think. There's no such thing as perfection because of what anime is trying to do.
More or less, correct.
Finally finished this. I look forward to see more of this in the future. You two work really well together.

Really agree with Geoff on the food scene with Kayo. I thought it was beautiful and could not have been done as well with what digi suggested.

+Josh Rushing That is a complete opinion tho?
DocChutney Yes, it is his opinion, and they shared it.... I don't understand why your questioning it.
@@burnsomate Yes. What really keeps it 50/50 is that in some cultures...it is expected that you neeeeddd to be abusive. Pretty toxic in my opinion.
You definitely said '98. I was thinking "wtf? I thought it took place in the 80s?"
Good advice! Thank you.
Damn, I just looked up Satoru's mom and her lips go straight past Matoko into Battle Angel Alita territory

I don't need to review the video, I heard it pretty clearly and typed the comment immediately afterwards. Also, you seem to miss the entire point of my comment. Of course OK doesn't equal bad, OK is completely different.
I hope I make sense.
bingo
I liked the visuals overall, the OP worked for me,
This would be a lot better if both of you would stop interrupting each other.
go get fucked
Like the 2016 election
It's cuz of skype lag.
Well, this topped that other 3 hour SAO video
+EbiFamil I don't know if that's a dig at the SAO videos or praise for this one. Either way I m now more hyped about this video.
+EbiFamil not really, this is just a podcast, ranting for 3 hours with someone else is easy, you just need some water, a 3 hour video with hundreds of edited clips from the show and a script to follow takes much more work to make
I just found mothers basement's channel and I had listen to the podcast so I'm actually really glad that these two are friends.
I really enjoyed this fleshed-out discussion would love to see more things like this in association with the shorter videos
You know, i came here expecting to have changed my MAL score of ERASED from 6 to, like, 4 or 3. Somehow, it is now at 9.
last few episodes disappointed me.
Goh KH o ok
+Goh KH Can't tell if you gave Conan or Erased a 3/10. You said you gave "it" a 3/10 after referring to Conan, its just that I would find it surprising that someone whose watched that many episodes of Conan would find it that mediocre lol
+jessedudezx Erased gets 3 for anime and 7 for manga. Detective Conan gets 6 for anime and 7 for manga.
I get angry at a negative review when I start to agreeing with it.
Why?
Tsuritama being one (which is a great show.)
So yeah, the perception that he hates shows just because they were made by A-1 pictures is wrong, he just happens to hate the majority of them.
next podcast: 2 hours and 50 minutes of ric and morty impressions
Sometimes I feel like I watch these, just cause I like to hear Digi complain.
+Terminus Hearing Geoff complain is so much more fun imo. Digi is too calm whereas Geoff pulls no punches and destroys whatever he rants about lol.
I am very happy to hear this opinion on Shirobako, given that it's my favorite anime of all time.
Geoff you fucking need to watch it right now.
+Matthew Trueblood I need to watch other stuff for my patrons first.
Including all of Death Note. :|
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu really is an amazing anime. It honestly was the best anime of the season.
Ok this is tripping me out. Only an hour or so before I saw this video, I found and subscribed to mothers basement. God damn talk about good luck, you guys are amazing
When Geoff said "you don' fuck with Hiromu Arikawa," I was working on a beat for a song and i synced up perfectly.
Sample that shit into the beat.
ye
Here are some other A-1 Picture shows that didn't go down in my oppinion: Subete ga F ni Naru; the whole Magi series; Nanatsu no Taizai; Shinsekai Yori.
this video is almost as long as erased itself
Almost.
Please, kindly take your opinions with you through that handicap suicide gate.
pfffhahaha
Oh damn.
thank you for that
The fucking wheelchair access suicide gate is so far in, but literally made me burst out laughing.
I read that twice to see if I read it wrong.
I really like the show and the things that bothered u didn't bother me. But I always like hearing opposite opinions and I'm definitely intrigued by wat kind of anime u like
