I always found it a bit unrealistic that those girls would bully someone who literally shot a man through the head. If I had to choose someone to bully, it would not be the person who has deliberately blown someone's brains out.
Yeah... if you find it worth insulting, then that means u spooked
Tvtropes Bullying a Dragon.
Its the same reasons why people keep bullying the weak, because they can. You see those jocks bullying nerds in those old american shows? If the nerd hit back and hit hard, do you think that the jocks would still bully them?
@@IndoGunsnGear It always bothered me that at the end of those movies the nerd punches the bully once, the bully gets knocked out and boom hapy ending, the only thing that would happen after that in real life is that the bully would come back the next day to jump you with his friends to make sure you don't win this time
Its not unrealistic and theh used her trauma as an excuse your argument makes no realistic sense

2 years later, im still watching these "Your Anime Sucks:SAO" vids because they're amazing
Luminous Soul always the same bullshit, the show is meant to appeal kids, and people who just want to watch something when bored, the recommended age is 12, and if sao is shit transformers and twilight are even fucking worse, the show is mean to be for fucking teens , i dont see thousand of no lives taking a shit on teletubbies and pokemon
rape scene is also for kids?
ItzFunky shut up the anime is garbage
+ItsFunky evil rapey guys are for 12-year olds then. Good to know.
except for the fact that teletubbies is good and pokemon (was good) is too
the best part about SAO is digi making fun of it
Digibro! Digimorph into! ....NOSTALGIA CRITIC!
andrewkful
I think you mean "devolve and sell out".
But then it would lose the Digimon reference.
Going to have to agree HIGHLY here on this point.
The best part was the abridged series that came out of it.
Our lord and saviour Kirito can somehow learn any game in the space of minutes and become even better than pro players who've been at it for months or years even if the mechanics are not at all similar to anything he's played and even if the mechanics are based off real world combat that his sister is demonstrably better at than him. In Alfheim he literally gank spanks within minutes.
Gustavo Massami Sakamoto I'm actually writing the script for the new season of Sword Art Online right now! Here's the synopsis of the first episode:
It opens with Kirito finally curing cancer, something he's been working on all morning. Asuna arrives and says they need to talk so they go to a cafe where Asuna reveals that she feels guilty for keeping somebody as amazing as Kirito to herself thus she's willing to let him have relationships with other women. Next scene Kirito finds out that there's a new MMO where combat involves tearing your enemy's clothes off and trying to bring them to climax and that his sister is being held there against her will by perverted anthropomorphic animal people. Kirito arrives and within minutes has a guild leader and her bodyguards bent over a desk as he tries to nail the information out of them. The guild leader reveals that the person who kidnapped his sister is called MurderDeathKiller69, who is the greatest lovemaker in all known history, but concedes that Kirito is probably still way better. Credits roll.
don't forget to include an ark where he hacks the game to give himself a foot long peenor for maximum damage
As someone currently trying to not suck at Smash Ultimate, I'm offended by his existence.
I’m convinced if Goku ever got isekai’ed to another world, he’ll become just like Kirito
Everton Harvey no lol
"As opposed to what? Life Gun?"
No, his name is Doc.
Medigun. Team Fortress 2.
SoraDonaldGoofy99 That’s funny because as we’ve seen in the meet the medic trailer, the Quick Fix medigun beam can actually let you survive without a heart and also exerts a voltage high enough to blow one up.
''The only difference is the amount of data'' dumbest thing i've heard in anime since ''people die when they are killed''
at least that line's got subtlety in it, unlike that latter phrase. Not that I'm defending the show.
I've read the Fate/Stay Night VN. Shirou's "people die when they are killed" is a line that actually makes sense in context, though that phrasing makes it sound like he's trying to be funny when he's not. It may have been better translated to "People are supposed to die when they're killed".
AnzaBrush i know but said like that it's the most obvious thing ever (not bashing the fate series)
There is some truth to it though. The simulation ceasing when there's no electricity? That's a shortage of information - specifically, the information being provided by patterns of electricity. Ultimately what he was talking about was Plato's cave. If you had lived in a simulation your whole life, never seen the real world before, then when you did see the real world, the only meaningful difference for you from the simulation you had always known would be the complete sensory overload because there is infinitely more information in the real world than the finite parameters of the simulation would have allowed. "Welcome to the Desert of the Real."
just according to keikaku is pretty up there for me
When people tell you to keep (negative) opinions to yourself... aren't they imposing their own (negative) opinion on you? To subject one for subjection... it's funny how hypocritical we all are.

Oh, past Digibro. Just wait until the Asterisk Wars. You will literally be complementing SAO by comparison.
"Carne" Asada. Perfect
TheKrazyJojo that literally means "Roasted Meat" in Portuguese
I still wonder how he noticed that
Gabriel Bulhões What do you mean? He just notices that her last name sounds exactly the same as the name of a dish, probably a dish he knows well. It's not that weird.
Also in spanish. This is glorious xD
Tomas Roque Did the makers of this anime literally try to make her a piece of meat?
I think the only thing this show has going for it is its premise and its visuals - which was enough for people to overlook how shallow the writing and characters were.
Now, if you want a similar premise but not as pretty, but with WAY better writing (sub-par with something like Code Geass), watch Log Horizon. Or better yet, SAO Abridged.
I just read that hearing Morgan Freeman's voice...I WILL OBEY YOU, OH GODLY VOICE!
Roger idk why you're going to obey him but its whatever you choose
Or *play .hack//INFECTION to QUARANTINE (PS2)* while watching LIMINALITY alongside it. *Far better* experience, better music, and superbly written compared to all of those things you named. *Yes, even better than Log Horizon*
code geass kinda sucks, watch cowboy bebop.... original beserk anime.... watch monster (thriller anime) worth much of your time than Sao and geass
The visuals arent very impressive either.
I rewatch these videos every now and then, I dont even think that SAO is THAT horrible, tho its pretty horrible, but I just have fun listening to this :D

SAO, great concept, crap execution and a crapton of fan service.
Butter Nutter amen
I personally don't mind fanservice ever but I can live without it.
Kyojin FTW i live better without it
I dont even think its that great of a concept.
william timonen no, the idea was great, you can make a masterful anime out of it.
if ever made a anime i would introduce a generic character just to make him important 2 episodes later.just to bamboozle digo.
and, if I ever need to introduce a group of characters, the only people that would have standout character designs would never be called attention to again
I like carne asada, the meat I mean.
Your SAO reviews are actually perfect. Thank you.
The only point I'd add to your previous SAO review is that Asuna is actually a boring, "dream girlfriend" with no personality and is only a strong and brave fighter when it suits Kirito, and not at any other times. Her design is lovely, but it's her only appealing feature if you get rid of the "housewife material" that is basically her entire character, since after that you're left with nothing. I have absolutely nothing against housewifey characters, but for crying out loud, that alone doesn't make a good character. She's like a Mary Sue girlfriend made by some teenage boy.
Sariachan idk, I think Asuna would be a cool character if the story didn't make her concede to Kirito all the time. Like, there's potential there for her to be awesome, but the show fails to capitalize on it time and again.
You're right, I just think it's baffling how someone can get characters so wrong. Asuna is the best character in the show, but that just doesn't make her a good character. The thing that upsets me most about the entirety of SAO is the amount of potential it had and how badly it fucked it up. I think that the same could be said about Accel World, except SAO ended up being a less watchable show.
Regardless, you're doing a brilliant job and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your SAO II reviews. ^^
I love your avatar, I love Umi
An actual example of a boring dream girlfriend with no personality would probably be Emilia from Re Zero
Sariachan a likable but shallow and uninteresting character is better than a stupid ass piece of shit protagonist who wears black trench coats.
sword art online is one of those "gateway" anime that gets propped up by newer fans, or is enjoyed by people as popcorn entertainment while acknowledging it's not very good.
i initially dropped SAO at episode 7 when I saw it was offering pretty much nothing, and everything i've found out about the series since then has just made it more and more clear how mediocre it is.
by the way this video is hilarious
deadlywork Fucking Yugioh is a better gateway anime... Hell if you want something from Kawahara go watch Accel World, its at least not utterly insulting (even if the protagonist being shit and op for no reason and the female lead hanging around him also having more holes than Swiss cheese, it has some resemblance of being decent).@wiki/Reki_Kawahara
***** Is it weird that Haruhi Suzumiya, and Lucky Star were my gateway anime? I watched them side-by-side, because I was confused by all of the references being made by Konata throughout the series (particularly the cosplay cafe scene).
not particularly. both of those series were very popular in the early 2000's.
deadlywork I...um only watched them roughly eight months ago. I'm fairly new to the anime scene. Either way my friend said Lucky Star was basically a much sillier, more adorable, more colorful, Seinfield, so I tried it out.
After watching it I disagree that it's at all like Seinfield, but I really enjoyed it. The show opened my eyes to the absurd amount of variety that anime had to offer, and in fact lightly poked fun of the perception that all anime was the same with the manga store employees
thats funny you say that because LS and haruhi are kind of dead horses in the anime fandom nowadays.
either way, yeah, there is a lot of variety, though sometimes you need to dig a bit to find gems.
Fanboys man. They are just the worst thing to deal with.
if you liked something and someone is trying to make you think that the thing you like is shit, you would atleast try to defend your opinion
juan solis defending your opinion is not being fanboy until you stop defending it with facts and just start throwing unreasonable shit
...leave it like that
AniSUB "I have watched over 100 animes and I can tell SAO is not bad" is not a fact nor a reason to think SAO is good. If you comment a reason or a fact why SAO could be considered a good anime aside from the animation I will gladly read it.
Have you seen what fan girls draw
SAO Abridged is the show we should have received...
I feel u bro "the black swordsman" what a joke
they literally just stole that title from berserk, ya know what else they stole from berserk, that awful scene in the alfheim arc where big bad rapes the protagonists woman while he's trapped can do nothing about it and forced to watch. The difference is Berserk actually made that scene work, it topped off the tragedy with one final heavy punch to the gut. SAO failed in every capacity with how that scene was handled, and shouldn't have even tried it
They also copied the elevator scene from Evangellion... what a disgrace of a series SAO is ugh.
@let us prey I lost 2 neurons reading your bs.
@let us prey Dude, do you actually accused bunch of random strangers (I don't know whether you're actually acquainted with them in real-life or not) online, that they watch SAO. You didn't consider that they could've either pirated it or watch reviews on RUclips or just seen some clips of it. Even if they actually have watched SAO, there's also good possiblity that they're never gonna watch it again and give it bad reviews, and yet, you claim that they're the part of problem, without any proof whatsoever.
Was this a peacemaker reference before Peacemaker was a thing? 😂
This is hands down my favorite video you've ever made. And maybe even my favorite analysis video. I truly think SAO has broken you, and the results are amazing.
Honestly, Sinon’s mother being scared of her was extremely unreasonable & disappointing for a parent to act. She killed that guy to save YOU when YOU should’ve been the one protecting HER. She saved your life, & you decided to be an AMAZING mother & cower in fear of your child savior.
It's totally fine to make a praise video, but the moment a hate one pops up it's labeled as biased unfair shit. Solid opinion
A really neat explanation they could have gone with for the dominance of strength builds is the guns themselves. Heavier guns can have higher damage, and this a lower time to kill, while also having higher fire rate and faster moving bullets that are harder to dodge. As players get better at abusing the dodge mechanics, guns that can't be dodged in that way due to a combination of those factors would get more prevalent, on top of the fact that snipers would presumably also require a high strength stat. A guy with a sniper rifle for long range and a minigun for short range, both of which can go through light cover, would pose a gigantic challenge for players relying on evasion to win.
Moving quickly also kicks up dust in that game, making you more vulnerable to snipers.
I guarantee I put more thought into it than Reki did in just the six or seven minutes it took to write this, but I find this kind of rework fun in itself.
17:25 Ain't that the same same animation sequence Kirito used in the battle against the first Sao boss?

A-1 stahp
A-1 why
watch the first one, it was ok, second season, couldnt even care.
I objectively deny the 1/10 rating.
1/10 is the lowest rating possible.
It means nothing good has come of it.
It doesn't matter how much bad something does.
10/10 means everything presented was perfect.
5/10 means there was about as much good as bad.
1/10 means it was all bad.
Even communism doesn't get a 1/10
@@googleuser9383 Don't think a 10 or a 1 have to be completely perfect or completely unredeemable. Rather it's better to rate something based on your own personal experience with something cojoined with an estimnation of its actual quality.
Agreed. First season wasnt bad or good in my opinion, but after that, It got boring and it sucked.
@@pinecone5551 1 can be redeemable but isn't 10 something tht is just perfect
@@vanguardcommander4560 no, because perfect by definition is something where something cannot be added or removed and be made better. No anime, or any show or movie I've ever seen, has accomplished this. Which is to be expected, because art is subject to personal taste and bias which can affect one's outlook on that piece of media, unlike something more scientific. But yes, I would only give something a 10 if it doesn't have significant major flaws.
"The Spurned Women's Club"
The word you're looking for is "Harem", Digi. XD
"Harem" implies a pool of women that Kirito cycles through as the mood strikes him, but which are all essentially his partners. The Spurned Women's Club is made up of girls who very much are NOT with Kirito, because he has Asuna. They are in fact "Spurned" _because_ they do not have romantic relationships with Kirito, and likely never will.
A harem is a group of sidepieces. Your harem is for when your wife bores you, for your guests, for more descendants etc. Harems are not polygamy and more property.
Bluecho4 Still, it felt like a harem, a bunch of girls drooling over a guy they just met. Made the romance between Kirito and Asuna have a little less meaning and just added to his gary stu factor
Holy fuck. Like... Holy fuck. That... That was really well done. All of your stuff is very good, but god damn! That was like... Top notch! Great work Digi.

Here's a perfectly viable way to get Kirito into a feminine avatar without randomising designs: he's famous. His avatar is, at least. But he's also incredibly vain, so he designs one that looks like him, then switches it to a female avatar to switch it up juust enough. Or he buys a boosted account, and again being vain, wants one that looks like him, but not too much like him.
I'll be honest, I actually like Sinon as a character.

8000+ Shinon fanboys disliked this video- Oh wait...
The whole of SAO has the same amount of character development as an add-on in a One Piece filler.
The only reason why I liked GGO was because it had guns. I will admit that SAO: Alternative GGO was a nice breath of fresh air seeing how it didn't focus on a fuckboy(Kirito) and his harem. I have never enjoyed a harem anime and I had major doubts about Alternative until I saw one scene and the music that went with it was fucking awesome. Alternative was only good since it wasn't the same writer of the original SAO. If you hate Alternative though then I won't judge, personally I find myself researching shows like Drifters and Hellsing Ultimate.
As a person with PTSD I find Sinon's use of guns a bit odd, especially as she doesn' have problem with them in the virtual world. When I watch anything that countains bullying/child abuse/abuse of power for mere fun, sometimes I have to take a short break, and I also writing a graphic novel (may end up as a normal novel if my art skills will suck even when the most of the story is written) which at some point deals with the subject, and writing some characters' backstory are bit hard for me because of it. I even cried at some point when I wrote it down in my computer. But fiction is fiction, it's either just for an interesting backstory, or the author loses all his writing skills when it comes to SAO.
I'm gonna have to disagree with the "don't do expository scenes in a cafe" comment because it can be done well when dialogue and shot composition is done correctly.
The Social Network has two major expository cafe/restaurant scenes and they work wonderfully due to how the dialogue and shot composition has multiple layers of depth and creates enough energy to essentially make it a verbal action scene.
It's not ubiquitous for screenwriting classes to say what environments you cannot do, as the manipulation and context of the environment is what matters.
SAO is an example of bleak and repetitive cafe/restaurant scenes, though that may be due the limitations of it being an anime and not live action, where building these kinds of scenes is different.
Anywho, just my thoughts. SAO is still trash obviously.
I agree. You can do exposition right, because really the point of the rule isnt that you shouldnt do exposition scenes in cafes, but that you shouldnt make your exposition scenes boring.
But I dont think the reason why SAO’s cafe scenes is bad is because its in an Anime. As Digi pointed out in the video, Haruhi did a cafe scene well. And Bakemonogatari is a story thats literally presented entirely in exposition and yet its still entertaining all the way through.
In fact, the fact that its an anime gives it alot of opportunities to make these exposition scenes much more interesting and engaging, which is exactly what Bakemonogatari did.
SAO is just bad at everything.
There’s a play that I read a while ago called “Top Girls,” and the entire first act is an expository cafe/restaurant scene. And it was the best example of this trope that I have ever seen in my life. I can’t even explain why it’s so interesting and creative, just go read the script :3
Danica Jekic
Yeah. What decides the quality of a scene is the writing, directing, & execution, not the tropes or ideas that they execute.

Stardust Crusaders episode 1 iirc
Why does he have to pretend he's a girl anyway? Is the concept of men playing [ridiculously fetishised versions of] women weird to the creators?

I will absolutely never tire of these three videos.
Me writing a story where a couple characters are going over a plan in a cafe:
God bless, I was laughing through this whole thing. I had SAO on my "plan to watch" list but after this Im debating watching it for infuriation or just dropping it altogether
I'm honestly kind of glad I watched it just because it makes watching Digi talk about it that much more hilarious. I can relate to his pain.
It's an experience, certainly. I had fun watching it, even though I agree with Digi. Give a try, it's the least you can do. If you don't like it, fine. If you do, that's good as well. Guess what I'm saying is 'don't knock it till you try it'.

YES!!! A YMS spinoff series. I hope this becomes a thing.. ;)
SimGunther so true
I feel as if there could be an actual explanation for Kirito's feminine character model that isn't just a bullshit "randomized character" excuse.
Maybe, and this is suggesting a version of SAO in which those who worked on the show and the novels ACTUALLY cared for a cohesive work, GGO allows character and voice customization. The reason why Kirito's design is so utterly fucked is because of the aforementioned "importing my Alfheim Online save to the game will mean all my items will be destroyed." Maybe when reading in ALO's character data, it scrambled up a few things when importing to a different game with wildly different character data.
Hell, even if it just meant he was using someone else's account that happened to look eerily similar, anything is better than "uwu it wandomized his chawactew modew"
Exactly! It would also explain why Sinon's avatar just so happens to resemble her IRL self, but with blue hair and blue eyes.
Okay look, aside from Gungale Online not having character customization being really dumb, why did Kirito have to *hide* the fact that he wasn’t a girl? He could of just told people “yeah I am a dude and happened to roll a female avatar.” And THAT WOULD BE A VALID EXCUSE!
It's uncanny how good the audio/video of your AMV fit together. Yeesh!
shinon's ass online
"C A R N E A S S A D A"
"I wanted to be a healer, but what can you do"
That made me laugh more than it should have.
"Your characters are completely randomized... NO ONE WOULD PLAY THIS FUCKING GAME!"
Little did we know of the storm of Fortnite coming up years later.
The light novel added something to Sinon's backstory. When she fired the second time, she dislocated her shoulder. I think that would help add to her fear, the idea that firing one would hurt her again.
No. That's physical. Her trauma has nothing to do with her own physical injuries
Yes.... yes.... YEEEESSSS! Do it, Digi! Destroy this show! Destroy it!!! Every episode must burn!!! Every pointless fucking moeblob sex doll must burn! EVERY PLOTHOLE MUST BURN!!! This fucking show... THIS FUCKING SHOW!!! How could it have gotten worse than the first time around? HOW?! The Spurned Women's Club plus Asuna literally sit on their asses this whole arc... LITERALLY... ON A COUCH... WATCHING KIRITO... WHY DID THEY INTRODUCE ALL THESE FUCKING FEMALE CHARACTERS IF THEY'RE NOT GONNA DO ANYTHING WITH THEM?!? And this show has a fanbase vastly larger than barakamon... even than Akame ga Kill... Good lord, what is anime coming to? This show doesn't do action particularly well despite its enormous budget and excellent animation, doesn't do pointless sexualization well in comparison to other shows that are geared towards that kind of thing, isn't funny, touching, exciting, anything, has one of the stupidest plots in history, the flattest most dead eyed empty characters, has no original ideas.... none... not one original... ripping off everything from .hack to death note to star wars... how do you not have one original idea in your head? HOW?!? Even children can write a story with one original idea!! You must hammer this show, Digi! Hammer it till it falls! It is your destiny! Not even Demolition D is equipped to bring the smackdown on this piece of garbage! It must be you! Do it! Do it noooooow!
John Smith It may have more fans worldwide than Barakamon, but when that show and this one were airing at the same time, Barakamon was beating it in ratings/sales in Japan, so there is some victory to be had there.
I agree!
Laziest AMV ever. 10/10 would watch again
I guess I just enjoy exposition? I dunno, one of my favorite movies is literally just a bunch of people sitting around a table talking: Twelve Angry Men.
I'm an SAO Fan, but I’m not an entitled brat and I admit the series is complete shit, (The Fairy Dance arc especially can be f**ked with a Nuke). I’m proud of being an SAO fan, but I won't beat others down for warranted hate, and I will stick to my guns until this series ends. If you hate it, it's warented and that’s fine.
I do have one question though...
How is SAO not able to get away with Cafe scenes, but the MUCH loved Chicago Fire on NBC has a LOT of episodes with exposition scenes at the bar called Molly's, and that one doesn’t get away with it?
Exposition in general is very easy to get wrong and hard to get right, but if the show in general is good they are much more forgivable than if the show is bad.

Since I started watching your vids I have already started to enjoy the amount of thought you put into your reviews, and I respect that. I watched this because I wanted to see why you thought this series was so bad. I just finished watching series 1 and thought it was pretty good. No, I'm not saying you're wrong, hell, you make great points, and my view on the second series is already set so even though I know I will probably not enjoy it as much, I know what to expect. Anyways, keep up the great work, I hope YT removes the limit on your vids soon (if they haven't already)
god i wonder how many times iv watched this series now...
The whole randomized avatar bullshit in GGO is so bad that it seems SAO Alternative: Gun Gale Online just opted to fucking ignore it. I don’t even need to watch the anime to deduce that because it’s clear as day in its MAL description:
“Karen Kohiruimaki always felt out of place in the real world. Due to her extreme height, she found it hard to make friends with other girls her age. Everything changes when she's introduced to VR and Gun Gale Online. In GGO, Karen is free to play the cute, chibi avatar of her dreams! Can Karen find friendship in this bullet-ridden MMO...?”
If GGO’s avatars are supposed to be completely random, how can Karen guarantee that she’ll receive a chibi girl as her character model? Who says she won’t end up tall and lanky like she is in real life? And for that matter, how the hell can she be sure she’ll end up female in the first place? Maybe GGO reads your profile’s gender to seed the randomization, but oh wait, Kirito received a female avatar despite his profile clearly saying “male.” And let’s not forget that you’re stuck with whatever model you get unless you sell your account. (Clearly, trading or selling avatars alone doesn’t exist in the game because Kirito would’ve looked to trade for a new, cool-looking avatar ASAP; there’s no way he would’ve stayed a girl had he some option to change it.) So, if Karen spins the wheel and gets something she doesn’t like, she’s SOL unless she makes a new account; the latter’s not even a desirable option if GGO is pay to play, so Karen would most likely just rage quit instead.
So what happened to allow SAO Alternative to end up the way it is? Did Karen just get lucky and roll exactly the character she wanted? Maybe, but then that begs the question of why she even bothered picking up GGO in the first place. Karen’s goal with VR is apparently to play as a moe blob; _why the hell_ would she even attempt doing that in a game where she can’t control her appearance? Why didn’t she just pick up another VRMMO-or any other VR game in general-with in-depth character customization? Did she just neglect to do research on GGO? Was there something about GGO specifically that outweighed having a randomized avatar? It makes no sense.
Perhaps Keiichi Sigsawa simply forgot that Reki Kawahara added in the whole randomized avatar thing. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if he knew about it, recognized it as a contrivance that existed solely to give Kirito an out-of-character avatar for laughs, and just ignored it as bad writing. Of course, this does draw attention to the contradiction, and I think that just sucks. Sigsawa’s vision of GGO’s character creation makes perfect logical sense for his story’s setup, and it’s more in line with what players of real MMOs want out of their games. Unfortunately, people can (and probably will) point to that inconsistency with Kawahara’s established canon as a plot hole that completely undermines the story’s entire concept before it even begins. It’s sad that Sigsawa’s creation will most likely be criticized for its non-conformance with an idiotic system that Kawahara put in place _just for a joke._
Reki Kawahara’s writing is so bad that it even undercuts _tangentially-related spinoffs._
I remember a few years ago when I wasn't into anime. A friend introduced me to this show and I thought it was amazing. I put it on hold though for other shows.
Fast forward to a few years later. I tried to watch this show again and was bored as fuck. I guess taste does change over time huh.

Death Gun: the person who is shot with this gun will die
Holy shit, the comments are back on. Time to go look for the comments showcase in that rebuttal video
*****
As for what you were saying about the game, the MMO was based on pre-WoW MMO's where it literally took forever to max out a character, that's because this was made before WoW.
8:00 ha, funny, because the SAO web novel for GGO came out in mid-2003 and Death Note came out in December 2003, SAO completely ripped off the thing that didn't exist at that time.
9:00 I thought it was supposed to relate to how Sinon would cut herself off from the real world in the virtual world.
11:00 again, made in 2003
11:54 the thing is that 100 credits in the game equals 1 yen, so that 300,000 credits Kirito won was only ~$30, and it has a monthly cost of $15.
12:17 A lot of people were tuning in to watch the MMO games, so I'm thinking it works kind of like sports in real life, also that was only the top players, less than 1% do that most likely.
16:19 actually, the only reason Sinon can kill them with her gun, is because her gun can fire so accurately from so far away. Most sniper guns can't, and even then, they don't guarantee a kill, as they need a headshot from such a far range to be lethal. Also, there's also a tank-like class that can take even the first shot from Hecate, as during the BoB she had to hit the guys grenades in order to kill him because he was too well armored.
17:21 It's not that he can't raise it fast enough, it's the fact that there's a maximum height he can lift it too, because of his guns extreme weight. He couldn't lift it any higher than he already did.
22:05 it wasn't that she was afraid of her, this was cut out for some stupid reason, but basically her mother was in a car crash, and forced to watch her husband bleed out in front of her for several hours. After that she basically suffered from a psychological issue where she wasn't as independent as she used to be. Asada often had to help he with simple tasks such as going to the post office. She was more likely aghast at the blood reminding her of the incident. Shino actually made the decision to move out because she didn't want to be near the incident where it occurred.
23:54 again, I believe the reason for this was because they didn't want the people making avatars radically different from their own body, as it can be kind of unnatural and inhibit gameplay, and the reason it's randomized is so that your face can't be recognized.
Every source I've looked at says that the light novels came out in 2009, though they do say that he wrote the first novel in 2002.
TheOneTrue SlimeKing it was a web novel in 2002, but was turned into a light novel in 2009, that means digibro also fucked up when he was talking about Accel World.
leafbladie Given the purported differences (implied by Trainreki-- I think I'm gonna call him that now-- himself) between the web novel version of SAO and the published version, I doubt that he just copy-pasted GGO to a novel. The retcon's still very much there. He didn't originally intend for SAO to lead into Accel World in its own chronology-- he _couldn't_ have, because Accel World's what established his "writing" career.
To your points!
>that's because this was made before WoW.
And it was PUBLISHED *after* WoW. What's your point?
>ha, funny, because the SAO web novel for GGO came out in mid-2003 and Death Note came out in December 2003,
I think that's more of a joke than anything.
>I thought it was supposed to relate to how Sinon would cut herself off from the real world in the virtual world.
The context is vague enough that there's a number of explanations you could give for it. Personally, I don't really think it has any meaning outside the conversation and scene itself.
>again, made in 2003
Released after 2009. MLG has existed since 2002.
>the thing is that 100 credits in the game equals 1 yen...
But the point stands because this is a CONSTANT dealing of money to however many thousand people playing the game at ANY time that they want. They're effectively drawing and filling up the same pool, and even if there's sponsors, this still seems like a pretty volatile economic setup that can dry up quickly. ESPECIALLY if someone decides to save up on their credits and amass millions to convert all at once.
>actually, the only reason Sinon can kill them with her gun...
Not exactly sure what this is answering...
>Shino actually made the decision to move out because she didn't want to be near the incident where it occurred.
And thus leave her mother with that much less support. Alrighty.
(Wasn't there a whole thing where she actually disowned Shino because of how much they abhor guns in Japan?)
>again, I believe the reason for this was because they didn't want the people making avatars radically different from their own body...
The fact that character makes are referred to as character *models* means that there's a *very* finite number of individual, *preset*, *most likely distinct* character designs. Also, if it was randomized so that your face couldn't be recognized, why is it that Kirito and Sinon's faces are still pretty damn identical to their real-world counterparts?
I've read the purported differences between the web novel, the only ones in the GGO novel as far as I could find were that Kirito didn't see Sinon naked before the BoB started and Sinon actually won the BoB against Kirito. Anyway, couldn't it have been just likely that he got the idea for Accel World after rereading his works? So he's only speculating at this point and giving uniformed opinions.
>And it was PUBLISHED after WoW. What's your point?
It was basically a copy paste from his old novels so it's going to be a lot different from MMOs today as MMOs today are much different than they used to be.
>The context is vague enough that there's a number of explanations you could give for it. Personally, I don't really think it has any meaning outside the conversation and scene itself.
That's like saying I think it doesn't mean anything, so therefore it doesn't mean anything.
>Released after 2009. MLG has existed since 2002.
Again he's not going to painstakingly change every single detail he made just to adapt it to how it would be like today.
At most people were making hundreds of dollars, and that's the 1%, he'll sponsors for events shell out over 1000x more for other sporting events.
>Not exactly sure what this is answering...
I was just saying why snipers aren't OP.
>And thus leave her mother with that much less support. Alrighty.
(Wasn't there a whole thing where she actually disowned Shino because of how much they abhor guns in Japan?)
No, her mother still had her Shino's grandparents, also, no there wasn't anything about her being disowned.
>The fact that character makes are referred to as character models means that there's a very finite number of individual, preset, most likely distinct character designs. Also, if it was randomized so that your face couldn't be recognized, why is it that Kirito and Sinon's faces are still pretty damn identical to their real-world counterparts?
Because if facial structure was radically different that could be offsetting, however eye color, hair color and length wouldn't matter much at all in making it feel like your body.
leafbladie
>Anyway, couldn't it have been just likely that he got the idea for Accel World after rereading his works?
I'm pretty sure that's still a retcon.
>It was basically a copy paste from his old novels so it's going to be a lot different from MMOs today as MMOs today are much different than they used to be.
I REALLY doubt that he made only a few insignificant changes to his work between 2003 and whenever he published it in or post-2009. And even then, what do I care that he didn't bother adjusting the game mechanics of GGO so they wouldn't look like shit in a modern context?
>That's like saying I think it doesn't mean anything, so therefore it doesn't mean anything.
But your interpretation has as much weight as my own since the content in question didn't have any importance outside the conversation.
>Again he's not going to painstakingly change every single detail he made just to adapt it to how it would be like today.
*Signs of a shitty writer.* Listen, if you publish something within the context of technology, you need to at least make sure that it's relevant *when you're publishing it*. It doesn't even need to be relevant in the future, but it at least needs to be relevant when it's released. Trainreki lacked the willpower to adjust the stuff in this story too, I suppose.
>At most people were making hundreds of dollars, and that's the 1%, he'll sponsors for events shell out over 1000x more for other sporting events.
There were people making $2-3k in this game.
>I was just saying why snipers aren't OP.
Sucks that the narrative doesn't really exemplify your point at all. Sinon's literally the only sniper given any focus, and she's OP-- it's difficult, therefore, to understand and appreciate the difficult position she put herself in being a sniper. And (this is in the assumption that the almighty LN went through this) it's something never given much detail in the anime.
>also, no there wasn't anything about her being disowned.
How about being ostracized by her own mom?
>Because if facial structure was radically different that could be offsetting, however eye color, hair color and length wouldn't matter much at all in making it feel like your body.
Doesn't address the fact that there's a finite number of distinct character designs and such a reality of having a body radically different from your real world counterpart is almost certainly a reality given what seems to be this game's random assignment of characters.
That 8 months for a high tier build is basically an exaggerated version of how long it takes to do the same in warframe.
When I was 'younger' (it was only two years ago) and I liked it. Now? It's bad..
Asuna's still adorable, and has personality. Best character.
i fucking hate SAO on a spiritual level so thank you for this
In my opinion SAO could have had so much potential. In my opinion it had such bad pacing and bad character development, I mean they would skip like a few months on every other episode. I would have enjoyed SAO if their were no romance, harem, and it took the series to 24 episodes and paced it well.
Nova i agree on the harem, but the romance on the first half of season 1 was injoyable
If only they focused on the survival aspect like on the first half of the first season it would be awesome, but as of today this series is turning into a massive turd including the video games
This is why JOJO's Bizarre Adventure is the best anime ever.
Yup
Yes Yes Yes Yes... YEEEEEEES - Jotaro
yes
Jojo is the opposite of SAO.
SAO is an Anime that should have and would have been amazing if not for the writing.
Jojo is something that shouldnt work, yet against the will of God itself manages too
I like JoJo a lot, but I am soooo confused as to why this comment exists on an SAO video of all things
When I think about it, Kirito’s bullet trajectory prediction is not that big of a big flex, just take in account your characters movements, the enemy’s position/aiming and the location of the last rounds to then think of possible positions again.
Literally something that is done nowadays and has been done for years, you even do it for when you are firing off a weapon in a game and have to predict where it will land and where the enemy will be.
I wanted to thank you for cluing me in to Log Horizons and SAO: Abridged. Both are excellent.
Your videos prove why I don't get too much into anime. While I do watch anime more than once in a while, the reason why I don't get into anime and what I'm about to say will make me look and sound like an idiot no matter how hard i reword it is that anime has too much variety for me. Ironic since I'm a soon to be animation critic. I don't know why there's just too much for me! Now I'm not saying I love watching the same crap daily, I HATE LARGE AMOUNTS REPETITION IN IN ANYTHING ANIMATED! I'm saying that anytime I try to get into different genres of anime there are many things that just turn me off. I was into KissXsis for a while until I learned that the main protagonist is dating his teacher. Granted the plot has incest involved but I mainly played that as a joke like the manga and the show did a lot. It's really hard for me to get into different genres that aren't like Digimon, One piece, or the original Pokemon anime before they gave up on good writing.
This is a series of some of the most insane opinions I've ever read about anime, ever. And that is really saying something.
First you say there's to much variety, then you say there's too much repetition?
Wow.
***** No I just really hate it when an animated show repeats the same episodes just with a different look, it's boring and just down right lazy. No wonder I left the Pokemon anime during generation 4. I still don't know why that generation is such a cult hit.
There are plenty of anime series that are unorthodox compared to most mainstream shows, you just need to look harder. If you're looking for something different and well written, I'd suggest series such as Katanagatari, Baccano, Shinsekai Yori, Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Samurai X Trust and Betrayal, & Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
George Halvorsen Okay.
Oh.. oh god that's a lot of comments...
you did it

The most ironic thing happened during the video. While watching this video an ad for an sword art online app came up
4:05 IS THAT A FILIA COSPLAY!? OMG YES
Hahaha that was very entertaining to watch.
I personally did enjoy SAO despite its flaws but it was still fun to watch you point them out.
I look forward to part 2.
Daniel Kim yes a person who is like me SAO is bad and good
SAO Surprisingly has zealous fans.. who are mostly dumb nd intolerant and critique. This is coming from a former fan.
🤔 You do realize that SAO fans like myself are also fans of other Anime right? Just because we defend our opinion doesn't make us dumb nor does that make you dumb.
I think the light novels explain Kirito's feminine avatar as a bug in the system that thought he was a girl. I remember that the aincrad novel described Kirito as having a feminine face. So it's possible that the system scanned his face, thought he was a girl, and made him a trap.
And thus Trapito became canon.
Wow, some really good points brought up that i wasn't really paying much attention to when i first saw the anime.
haha all these butthurt sao fans
Sao fanboys mad It's so cringy including the rape scenes
You're doing God's work, son.
I can't help but keep on remembering black desert online when he talks about why anyone would make a game like this.
my profound joy at hearing the beat to WHOA cannot be described
