      One of the biggest pitfalls is that most anime fans are Generation Z; jobless, in school, & still living with their parents. You think they'd make more anime with adult protagonists to appeal to the wallets of Generations X & Y, or more family friendly stuff with a broader, less niche appeal that can be aired on prime time TV that a child, teenager, & adult could watch together. Or maybe they should aim for small children & toddlers; parents buy them whatever they want & they could even make quick buck off school supplies, clothing, & bedroom sets.

      +Urbex Bootleg Glitch Exactly this. It's hard to get the older generations into anime: my mom won't watch even adult series in her genre. It's just ingrained into her brain to reject cartoons.
      Meanwhile, parents will buy tons if stuff for their kids. Look at Disney. But the video mentions that they pander to younger audiences. But American parents aren't buying.

      my problem is that I don't want merch, don't have space for it and I just... don't want it? Streaming services like crunchy roll suck so I'm limited in my options for supporting anime, kinda wish they'd all just have a page on a website somewhere that accepts donations.

      +skrili I believe he's referring to quality, but honestly, the 90s were no different. They've already had niche markets in mind back then and some studios were meeting their end, so a lot of the works created in that decade were god awful much like the ones today if not worse. The only reason I could understand why previous eras (I'm guessing the 80s/90s) seem to have better works is because there wasn't an overwhelming amount of anime produced during those times, so the good stuff sticks out more easily. Now, if he meant profits, I'd say we're in the Golden age of anime right now. Many 80s/90s anime weren't dubbed/subbed until the early 2000s, well in the US at the very least, so different animations from different times were lumped together with the newer ones, the older ones tend to be overlooked. This was also around the time studios fell apart and had to resort to making otaku-centric anime, so much of that was brought to the west and lo and behold, everyone (the studios) jumped the bandwagon when these dying studios raked in truckloads of profits.

    In Brazil its impossible to try watch anime legally
    Netflix, Crunchroll and others kinds are HORRIBLE, they only show famous animes and have a REALLY BAD TRANSLATION
    Not only that, but I really love dubbed animes (brazil is know to have one of the best dubs in the world) but holly shit, the last anime dubbed IN YEARS was FMA brotherhood (and I cant remember any anime before that), no one dub animes anymore. The last we had was infamous was Netflix who dubbed Gintama with RANDOM people from OTHER country, its like get japanese people to dub in english (IT WAS RIDICULOUS) and like I saied, if you try to watch with portuguese subtitles, the translation is horrible
    What I want to say is: In some places its almost impossible to watch animes legally

    You make very VERY good points about the difficulty of producing some types of anime, but you seem to have forgotten one very important aspect: the fact that most anime fans don't care about the type of anime that isn't made. The guaranteed market, as you very correctly call it, is more then satisfied with the current anime being made. In reality, the greatest enemy of the current anime industry is that they make too much anime. It has been showed that the anime market has a limited number of paying customers, and that number is more or less constant. By making more and more anime for the guaranteed market at the same time you run the high risk of spreading the revenue too thin. Thus instead of 3 shows that break even, you have 9 shows that don't even come close.

      +DmonHiro
      This is made even worse when you consider that unless less and less anime is made yearly until the number approaches zero, the number of anime for a virtually set-number of fans will always rise. Not only is anime competing against currently or just recently running competition, in many ways it needs to compete with older anime in terms of merchandise sales. Series that are 25 years old can still be making and selling merchandise at a decent rate if it picked up a substantial diehard fanbase at it's start (Ie, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z. Both still produce new merchandise year by year, and it still sells decently well).
      The anime market is the inverse of the gaming market in a sense. While the general lack of good quality games is suffocating the current gaming market (Excluding Indie, that's awhole'nother ballgame) because fewer people are willing to invest, with Anime, a massive buildup of good to great anime over 30 to 40 years is causing the market to suffocate due to less total value of money that can be spread about.

    That is the single reason i cramp my room with cupboards over cupboards filled with anime and manga i love. I started downloading and streaming them first. And finally, since i am able to afford them, i buy them. A lot of people are giving me the looks like "why the hell would you buy that. Isn't anime free?" or "how old are you that you fill your room with that. Isn't that embarassing?". I am okay with that. I can ignore people, but i fear that a lot of people can't.
    Also a big problem is, that most of the good stuff is simply not available in my country. I'd buy movies or series in an instant, if i could. I am okay to pay the price for them, but if i really want something, i need to import that. And that is often pushing me over the limit of being able to afford what i want. THAT is a big problem and maybe also a reason why they don't sell as much as they could. They are not taking enough of a risk to invest in the western market. Getting the movies into the cinemas around here. I am pretty sure, they wouldn't crash.

      I used to buy stuff. Then I grew up & downsized to a smaller house & realized I couldn't dedicate an entire room & half a paycheck to manga anymore. That VHS fansubs & DVDs were also taking up too much space. That I had more posters & wall scrolls than I had walls & that a grown ass woman shouldn't be in a situation where she invited her boss over for dinner & has to explain why there's cartoon pictures on the walls in the living room. Took it all to Half Priced Books & sold it for pennies on the dollar. Now if I'm gonna pay for stuff, it's just for digital access. No more physical media for me....Except keychains. Those don't take up much space.

      i use a similar system (clothes smushed in a corner to accommodate) i use panasonic 50gig bd's for long term storage of shit i may not get to buy, and store backups of valuables on, while also using cheap organic verbatims for backing up bought disks for quicker play on pc or editing (i can be ok if they die as i can re-rip the originals). as it costs 60p per disk its seems reasonable- hdd are cheap per gig but useless when full. you can flick through a cd wallet book about the same speed as reading down a list on drives anyway- i'd love to store the original disks that way too but i would still have to store their cases somewhere if i had to sell them...

    The problem with buying anime dvd's is that there is absolutely no buyers mentality behind it anymore. I would feel like i am wasting money on something i have already seen for free. The internet is to blame... One solution is to make a Official anime website that is extremely cheap but is all around better than streaming sites that have advertisements, terrible load times, or content that sometimes gets removed from copyright.
    it could be 99 cents for a whole season of anime, if a million people buy this season, thats a million dollars more that anime would have lost to streaming sites.
    This mega website could also have a merchandise store and adds that pop up on the side based on the anime you have purchased. Harmless adds that you won't even see once you go full screen
    Times have changed, most people aren't going to pay 20-40 dollars for maybe 10-20 hours of entertainment, especially when that entertainment was already enjoyed. DVD sales in general not just anime have reduced by 55% over the past decade, netflix/hulu/redbox basically let people experience more for less

      Chazz vc There is something similar, it's called Crunchyroll.
      It's not perfect, but I heard premium's pretty good, and so far it's the anime industry's best bet.
      If you people can't cough up cash to support your favorite shows, I perfectly understand... but in that case, you should try to shy away from Animesomething.com sites and try to prioritize OFFICIAL streams like Netflix, Neon Alley, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. With these streams your viewership actually supports the anime industry, since the money you spend on subscriptions (and ads that these sites shove down your throat if you choose not to pay the meager 10 dollars a month) actually helps the people back in Japan, and provides you with high quality streams.

      You've got reviewers like this guy who could use an easy $2000 to review an anime, and reach 200,000 people who will all potentially view, and even buy into the anime. Instead you've got reviewers who struggle because these large companies think people still listen to the radio or watch the news on their TV's...i mean really who watches TV anymore?

    You know what I'd like to do in my life... Find a way to make high-quality productions -- games, animation, etc. -- with a very small budget. For example, any old bloke with a simple game engine nowadays can produce what was considered AAA 20-30 years ago in their basement in under a month. As such, I wish to push that forward, so that in the next 20-30 years, good-quality productions can also be done relatively inexpensively.
    Why? Because of all the great people out there with great ideas for games and shows who aren't able to make those ideas into reality due to budget constraints or a lack of funding. And I don't think I'm alone in this thinking.

      Vastt Soundy Right. The way to cut down on costs, then, or increase efficiency, would be to create tools/automate things (artificial intelligence?!) in such a way that a good product can be made with less staff.
      And that doesn't have to mean firing the excess. It could mean a company has more than one project going on or something.
      Am I making any sense? I feel I'm just spouting stupid stuff right now >.

    • @Inferryu
      @Inferryu 8 лет назад +7

      +HaloEliteLegend "Am I making any sense?" yeah you are, the problem I see is this thou, if you want a AAA game you'll need pro staff, and right now, besides the huge amount of artist out there many are over expensive, and this goes as well to programmers, sound engs, animators, etc. Just look a todays teams vs the old ones, you just have so much people now, I thing they are overdoing things quite a bit.
      If you want a low cost artist all you have to do is dig under the pile until you find a (relatively)cheap and skilled artist, but companies are just sticking to more renowned names which in turn just become more expensive.

      But why would good writers go make an anime when things like TV shows ,video games and visual novels like Steins Gate ,little busters, fire emblem ,liter of tears,Alter ego , persona ,13 sentinels etc earns them 10 times more money cause many people actually buy games much more than anime and manga and not to mention at a higher price than anime and manga. The manga market is shrinking while the market for games continues to grow no wonder why more people opt to make games other than people with passion for manga writing . Even mobile games earn more money . It's why webtoons in Korea works it's like a free mobile game with ads and it's more of a steady income than writing manga or anime or even drawing for one .

  • @Daxter609
    @Daxter609 9 лет назад +192

    I feel the lack of localization cuts into their profits. It usually takes at least 1-2 years for an anime to officially get an English dub and they don't even get the license to all the episodes currently made. The 1999 version of Hunter X Hunter didn't get dubbed till 2008!
    Look at Funimation they can only get a certain amount of One Piece episodes at a time which is why it will take at least 8 years for it to ever catch up the Japanese version. Sometimes these Japanese companies choose the worst Western companies ever to do dubs like 4kids. And censorship like the Disney XD version of Naruto Shippuden you basically couldn't tell what the heck was going on in some scenes like all the fights involving Hidan. Or Zatch Bell like poorly drawn "laser" guns covering over real guns, blood being removed which can really confuse what state the character is in, curse words taken out, demons being called Mamodos, characters like Big Boing being edited out, Folgore's song changed, Penny's underwear not having Zatch's head. Don't know Viz took blood out considering Naruto was also airing right before/after it and Naruto still had plenty of blood.
    Everyone in Japan can watch nearly all Anime on TV at almost any time of day meanwhile in America we pretty much only get as much as we can count on one hand airing at a time once a week on one channel during a certain of time of day (usually super late at night) and those few may not appeal to some people.
    Pretty much all you'll see on TV in the US on basic cable is One Piece, Naruto, DBZ, Bleach dub is over so it stopped airing and Toonami/Adult Swim went overkill on Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood reruns they basically aired the complete series like 5 times same for Cowboy Bebop but like 20 times, afterwards you get 2 or 3 anime that have been around for years but are recent but you had no idea existed like Soul Eater, Gurren Lagan, Durarara!! and Mitchiko Hatchin. Some animes get English dubs even when they're not airing on TV, but people that wanted to watch have watched them on the internet so by the time the air on TV they're behind by half the amount of episodes or even greater.
    To get more you have to pay for the Funimation Channel which is pretty much the only anime channel in the US and Funimation doesn't have dubbing and subtitle rights for all anime. They only aired the Hunter X Hunter 1999 dub version for a year.
    Meanwhile in Japan basic cable can get you a lot more. So everyone outside is pretty much forced to use the internet and whatever source they use most likely is not official.
    The Super Hero genre is booming in the West so there is really no reason that at least Shounen shows struggle with becoming popular and making money so long as they don't pander to the extreme otakus where it is basically porn every chapter/episode so everyone has to be up past mid night watch a single freaking episode once a week or be ashamed of watching it in public.

      SinPunisher America is lucky when it comes to anime tbh.
      I live in the UK and there is practically nothing on TV. Only the really popular kids' shows like Pokémon and Yu Gi Oh ever get shown regularly and there's like one channel that shows the odd Ghibli film (which 90% of the time is Spirited Away) but that's it.
      Bookstores have maybe one shelf (not even a case, a shelf) of manga and stores that sell DVDs/Blurays generally only have a very small selection of really popular ones (Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, Death Note etc.) and are ridiculously overpriced.
      Buying stuff online also costs a bomb when you have to pay a ton to get it shipped from the US or something like that. Half the time it costs the same amount, if not more than the actual product does.
      So, yeah... the US is lucky anime is so popular there.

    If you cannot pay money to support your shows directly, don't fret! There are ways to show your support, and I encourage each and every one of you to do what little you can.
    Many of us use sites like Anime[insert something here].com or [insert something here]anime.tv or what-not. And while it may be hard to see what damage it's doing to the industry, I can tell you that the traffic from these sites IN NO POSSIBLE WAY benefits the people who want to make good anime.
    Instead, before hurrying over to your preferred pirate cove, try dropping by an _official_ anime streaming service first to see if they have what you seek. Services like Netflix, Crunchyroll, Neon Alley, or official providers like Funimation on RUclips all provide popular anime for *free* with good quality(at least, it's as good as most pirate cove sites I see), and just like TV back then, your viewership supports the creators and helps to get your favorite anime made. Or continued. (I'm still waiting on Full Metal Panic the Third Raid.)
    For example, Crunchyroll offers a wide selection of subtitled anime, and provides the newest episodes of *_ongoing ones in almost real time!_* For less than 10 dollars a month, you can also try out their premium membership, which unlocks their full library of anime shows and J-dramas, and allows you to play _high quality streams_ without advertisements! All this for less than 30 cents a day; a far better deal than 30-60 dollars for four fucking episodes on a dvd.
    I want to support the industry, and while I don't spend nearly as much compared to the average nerd, I understand that we need to sacrifice small luxuries for the medium we love. In general, I always stop by Crunchyroll first to see if an anime I want to watch is available. If it's not, then I try Funimation, and if not, only then do I go to my own anime stream to watch it. It sucks when I have to resort to this, since Crunchyroll usually has higher quality anyway.
    And the last and *most important thing you can do* (_especially_ if you're not willing to use these sites yourself) is to encourage others to use these official streams. I know a lot of us don't even know they exist, or some do but aren't aware of the impact that they can have. Spread the word about these sites and try to advocate their use as much as you can.
    Together we can save anime. I wholeheartedly believe in it.

      +Reginald Uy Totally agree with what you're saying, only what about the people who watch dubbed only? ... apart from the funimation official site, there are literally no websites which help the original creators outside of the US/ Canada or at least from where I come from. As a result, there isn't any way for me personally to watch anime legally dubbed regardless of how much I want to. As much as I'd love to support the original creators, unless they rethink their global distribution model (through digital outlets, rather than exorbitantly priced dvd/ bluray combos) There really isn't any way for me to show my support. (I'm not alone in this as there are many MANY countries outside of the US who don't distribute dubbed anime outside of the basic 3 big ones.) At least if crunchy increased their dubbed shows I would more than happily pay for it, or even if funi expanded their site functionality to international in order to cater for the rest of the world. Obviously it's a different story for subbed, however, I couldn't find value in buying the subbed versions of shows or paying a subscription for subbed shows and then pirating dubbed versions anyway as it defeats the purpose of making a purchase legally in the first place.

    "Why Good Anime Is Hard To Make" - CAAAAAAASH! In cost and audience target.
    Why dont Anime companies tap the oversees market. Say you get 1 million people,outside of Japan at 1-2 dollars an episode for Download or stream? Make it easy and trust people would support.
    Its why Netflix works. Ease of access.

      @techmage89 8 лет назад +2

      I suspect many Anime studios and publishers don't have a good understanding of the overseas market and tend to flounder when marketing their works to a larger audience. Recent trends are towards serving a very niche group of dedicated fans who are willing to spend a lot (see most recent Aniplex releases).
      The alternative strategy is increasing volume by reaching a far wider audience, but the last big push towards that flamed out years ago with the breakup of ADV in the US (who was the largest proponent of this strategy). Funimation kind of continues this strategy with mixed success, but has a hard time getting many Japanese studios to buy in.
      Basically, no one knows how to market anime to reach a wide audience overseas so we're stuck with mostly niche shows at exorbitant prices until someone can figure it out.

      ***** Yes, but don't you feel that importing 4 episodes of a series for well over 80$ is a bit excessive? Even if you're not importing from Japan, I don't feel that in terms of $ and content, it's worth the price premium. I love Studio Ghibli, but there's a problem both financially, and in terms of amount of content if I can get well over 3-4 films for the price of one anime film, and unfortunately, I understand why, but for 10$ more, I could pretty much buy ALL 3 Toy Stories on Blu Ray. I WANT to support anime as much as I can, but it can be REALLY expensive. I don't understand how people are willing to drop hundreds of dollars on little figurines or much less pillow cases. I feel that is should first be sold at a lost in order to make a profit. Part of the reason anime is pirated so much, is because of how expensive it is. If it was cheaper, more people would be willing to buy anime. I know I would and I know a handful of people that would too.

    • @RRapierre
      @RRapierre 10 лет назад +5

      More people will buy if it's a lower price. If it's really expensive, only rich nerds will bother enough to buy it. You think if they followed Steam, and made Blu-rays 80%+ off, they might have much more sales. Steam does get the bulk of its income during their sales anyway. I'm not saying it's guaranteed that anime companies would gain more money by lowering prices, but at the same time none of them have even tried. They're too scared to experiment with lower prices, and thus they stick themselves to their status quo of ~$100 and put people like us off.

      @1243miguelbravo 10 лет назад +6

      Well, kind of. I mean I'm not asking for super cheap anime, because it's unreasonable; steam games are dirt cheap because it's not a physical game and in terms of translations and distributions, it's not that hard or costly compared to anime. But, at least let it be reasonably price. For example, if you like Kill La Kill and have Netflix for 8$ a month, why would you be inclined to buy for episodes for +80$? I'd be willing to drop a good 30-40$ for an entire series of a good 20- something episodes.

      I used to pay $30 for 2 episodes of Ranma 1/2 on VHS back in the 90's. In the early 2000's, I bought DVD volumes of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Hellsing & Berserk with 4-5 episodes for around $25 (Trigun cost about $200 to collect the whole series back then). Today you can often get an entire season for what we used to pay for volume 1 just a decade ago. Anime today has gotten far more affordable than it used to be since the market has gotten so much larger.

    • @CaptainSnowflake
      @CaptainSnowflake 10 лет назад

      If you live in the US a DVD collection of a new television series costs about $30-50, which is about the same cost as a copy of one season of anime from Funimation. The reason it's so pricey is that producers know that the DVD market is so small that they probably won't make a profit off the product unless they charge that much.

      +killer13324 Very good. The cast is a bunch of professional superheroes who fight crime while at the same time competing on a reality show. And it handles the need for corporate sponsors to fund the show in a very interesting way. All the main characters have real world corporate sponsors (despite it being in a fictional setting, there are fake corps mixed in) and they wear those logos on their costumes and do commercials for them. Think Marvel's registration act but without all the bullshit that made it turn people into living property of the government whether they wanted to be a superhero or not- instead being a superhero is just a thing you take some tests for and apply for a license. Literally, being a superhero is a day-job for these people. You have full legal liability for your collateral damage and WILL be sued all the time, hence the need for corporate sponsors to help cover your legal liabilities.
      The main themes of the show though revolve around its middle-aged protagonist, who is a very idealistic old fashioned superhero struggling to accept he's past his prime and the younger people replacing him don't exactly share his ideology about being a hero and instead view him as outdated and absurd. The mood of the show is rather different from the norm because the lead role is much older than normal and the show unexpectedly hit a wider age range because of it. He's a middle-aged widower with a teenage daughter who is also rather resentful toward him because of how he's chosen to live his life up until now- older crowds tested they could relate to him a lot.

    I really appreciate how you communicated the message of supporting anime without sounding like a self righteous, holier than thou, butthead. I've seen so many videos about anime piracy with messages of supporting the industry where the person ranting is calling people self entitled spoiled brats and that attitude annoys the hell out of me.
    I, like you, try to help as much as I can, but a lot of the series I want to buy are so exorbitantly priced with over the top collector's editions split in two parts for hundreds a piece with a bunch of extra BS that I don't even want. I mostly watch anime through Crunchyroll or Daisuki of Funimation's site and youtube channel, and if it's licensed by anyone other than Aniplex, I'll buy the blu-ray if it's affordable.

    • @Trixiethegoldenwitch
      @Trixiethegoldenwitch  10 лет назад +19

      The problem with those ranters is not understanding that maybe their audience really doesn't care that much. I only find it entitled when people complain about a lack of new seasons, or a lack of original anime, when they aren't doing anything to help. But really it comes down to measuring engagement--you should only put your money into it if you truly care, and only as much money as the amount of care you have.

      Yes exactly what I think. They just begin to slowly change, It's like major music label that fought hard against music download instead of selling music online.
      I'm not 100% sure why they are like that but the best explanation I can think of is that those industries are old enough that most decision maker are elder. And I kinda noticed that elder have a hard time to put a value on something that is not made of solid material. And also have a little trouble with internet in general.. So... for them it's probably not obvious at all that we will buy online it they let us do it .. Because they will not buy something online themselves.
      So they whine about younger people that don't want to buy their expensive plastic box.

      +ShadowWolfRising Maybe because Anime is generally produced in Japan and Netflix is very much an American service. Due to your laws (I do not know the specifics) most licensed Netflix shows are geo-locked which create's problems for people outside the US. Also, there is the difference in currencies. It's not that 'they are set in the old ways' or any this as ludicrous as that, it's just very difficult to sell digital produce across borders.

  • @CidsaDragoon

    I'm sure someone else has stated this already but the anime industry has another extremely huge problem and that is HOW MANY shows it produces. I've been watching anime since the 80s and it wasn't until the later 2000s that the medium started to explode. Back in the day you'd see a bunch of OVAs, maybe a movie and a few series and that was about it. I look at what is supposed to air in a single season now and it is overwhelming; there's no way producing that much isn't contributing to the issue.
    I buy anime a lot so I'm happy to know I contribute in some small way but I know it just isn't enough. Even pandering to niches that will spend lots of money will only work temporarily. It's really hard to think of ways the industry can save itself and it's possible that it might not be able to in the end. The niche appeal in general (compared to TV and movies) and the high costs of making it might just lead to a market crash.

      @CidsaDragoon 8 лет назад

      +Calvinfan Could be. Again, I'm thinking of the 80s and 90s where there were hardly any. There might have been a huge glut in the mid 2000s (I wasn't watching a lot then tbh) but if I load up AniChart it's still way more then back in the day.

    • @BlackGateofMordor
      @BlackGateofMordor 8 лет назад

      +Calvinfan Look at the charts of previous seasons. This season alone has over sixty anime airing - there will certainly be more than 200 anime released this year, and the number could be as high as 220 depending on how big the second half of the year is. Going back to 2002, the winter and summer seasons especially aired nearly nothing. Anime output has increased drastically.

    • @peteraguilar7600
      @peteraguilar7600 9 лет назад +4

      Creative Ziggy To the best of my recollection, I believe both Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are more traditional in that they were created for a Japanese audience, and later they were licensed and brought over for American audiences. Now obviously, the tone for both series and the personalities of the characters in both series were highly influenced by the American Western genre.
      Big O (specifically the second season) was actually co-financed by an American company to be shown on TV here in the States. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a complete rarity in that the very first language track to be recorded for it was the English track, and it was not until weeks or months later that a Japanese language track was recorded.
      That being said, there very well might be some facts about either Trigun or Cowboy Bebop that I just may not be aware of or may have forgotten, so if you know anything additionally or have links to some articles, I would love to know it!!

    I say let the anime industry die because, as it is right now, it's complete garbage. Let it die out, then rebuild it the right way. Make shows that are focused on making good stories and art, instead of making money from obsessive otaku.

    • @peteraguilar7600
      @peteraguilar7600 9 лет назад +36

      +Tortoiseshel If you let the anime industry die, then all the animators will have to get different jobs (I think it is safe to assume they like to eat and support their families), and then once a new anime production company is willing to try making new anime in 10-20 years, most of the really good animators will not want to risk their new job security so you will not get back all the good animators. So it will then take even longer for the quality to get back to a very high level. So yeah ...... that plan only works out if you are willing to wait 15-25 years before high quality anime is consistently produced.

One of the reasons I've fallen out of anime tbh.

  • @Marg0Pol0
    @Marg0Pol0 8 лет назад +7

    I think the on thing Digibro kind of missed touching upon is streaming services. It's understandable how many people have a hard time buying DVDs/BluRays, since a lot of us millenials are in HUGE amounts of debt (mostly from college) or don't have good paying jobs yet. However putting your $7 a month to a service like Crunchyroll does do some good for the industry. It's an extreme bare minimum, but it's better than piracy. I've fallen out of anime for a lot of the reasons mentioned, and I pretty much just watch JoJo now. However I keep my Crunchyroll account going to do my small part, because BluRay purchases are sadly not something I can do right now. However most people can cut some small thing out of their life to pay for the $7 Crunchyroll fee. Where it be quitting smoking (which honestly could save you enough for dvds), soda, cooking all your meals at home/not eating out, or even just buying less food/eating less, or just shopping smarter (i.e. buying things at the dollar store or buying store brand instead of big brand). I do understand some people have no income, but in those cases I'd say maybe asking for a year for christmas/your birthday. Though in those cases you really have more to worry about that anime.
    I didn't write this long comment to put down people, but to let people who are overwhelmed by dvd/bluray prices know that their simply paying for a streaming service does something. Though as Digibro says it's much more helpful to actually buy the shows you care about.
    tl;dr Don't feel bad that you can only afford Crunchyroll, because it helps. Also, you can probably cut costs to afford the $7/month service, so please don't torrent.

    • @Sp-dr1cz

      +SilverBlinkCod actually it's expensive for them to bring it over seas to other places... other companies from other countires have to buy the rights to the animes and also they will have to dub them into various languages which also costs money. and usually the animes will not get much views which means the original japanese companies who sold the animes to the other countries will have actually spent their money for nothing since the animes did not do so successfully in the other countries. so no. it won't get them more money.

    • @uteriel282
      @uteriel282 9 лет назад +3

      +Sushi Devourer :) a japanese companie doesnt pay shit when an anime gets dubbed.
      that cost is compleatly with the companie that got the license.
      one of the reasons why not every anime ever is getting dubbed is because japanese production studios dont care about the rest of the world to sell the rights to their animes.
      another reason is because animes arent nearly as big of a thing outside of japan than they are in japan.
      in germany it takes up to 5 years before an anime gets dubbed. thats because the market here is really small.
      also there is only a small number of companies that deal with anime here and they never know whatever what they payed money for will sell or not and because of horrible dubs they mostly end up with huge losses.
      which is why even less animes get licensed.
      stuff like one piece gets 10 rerunns before they put out the next batch of episodes.

      CVhildren cant read
      Thus if you expect children to read subs how do you expect anime to grow as a thing in the rest of the world
      2. Perhaps its as big of a deal as in japan but the world is bigger than japan
      People from all over the world still buy japanese articles even if they are in Idk germany and as a whole it does add up , even if scattered
      So i dont see why you wouldnt invest in the world as a whole...

That's Why Anime Is Only Really On TV In Japan Save For Maybe A Few Select Channels With A Vary Select Group Of Anime To Choose From And None Of Them Are The New Stuff (Just Stuff From The 90's Most People Have Already Seen So Unless They Really Like That Series They Wont Be Watching It (At Least As Much) Now. And before you call yourself an anime fan, go and look at how dedicated Japanese anime fans are; they are willing to pay 6000 yen ($50-60 US) for 3 episode Blu-ray sets and $300 US+ Blu-ray box sets

      +Willie Wonker Buying DVD's is outdated: there, I said it, someone had to lol. I say that while I still buy DVd's myself, if I absolutely loved a show and would watch it any time that is (I've only got like 15-30 prob). The truth of the matter is though the way of the people has a voice and presence of it's own: it doesn't make sense to watch anime by buying DVD's these days, as much as it doesn't make sense to test, buy, and expect to enjoy every game by buying it first. This isn't just because of lack of satisfaction, but because of the acknowledged versatility and capability across several platforms, be it via streaming, or the vast ways people use pirating towards content. . Hate on broadened breadth of exchanged, and what it's done/doing opposed to the market these days, but it's certainly revolutionary.
      Or rather, a revolution we've created naturally with technology, and can't seem to dig ourselves out of the monster that's got ahead of us, yet.Don't get me wrong though, there's definitely issues on both sides of the table, I'm *just* saying excluding or minimizing what we can do now *may* be a shallow answer in the big picture/long run. Like saying our "standard of living" is down, when we have spacious apartments, fast food chains, etc. around us (just a hypothetical example). Taking all the goods and ability away may solve the problem, but not be wisest answer too >__>
      Until we find one though, I'll prob be on Kissanime or w/e other site,and buying what and when I can. There's times I just skip an anime convention and go waste my money on DVD's instead for the year XD --but I digress.The beast known as humanity lives on! lol

      Then the disc skipped a bit on the PS2

      I hooked up the Blu-ray/DVD player I bought for my computer, and it eventually started doing similar there too, albeit a few eps later.

      Or go to an anime site, that buffers the whole vid immediately, plays in HD, and only has ads on the side that I can block out in full screen. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM :l tough decision!"
      Immediately went to an anime site and it was crystal clear smooth sailing for the rest of the hours we watched Soul Eater LOL. Plus, we had both dub and sub still, since of course many sites have both.

    The one thing I like about being a crunchyroll subscriber (paid), is that the money I pay monthly gets divided up to the companies that make the shows I watch. This allows me, while I don't BUY the shows, to fund them with my meager disability finances.

    OK, you do realize that people watch animes all around the world, right?
    I'm from Brazil and I hardly watch any anime, but lots of friends of mine watch lots of animes. Here in Brazil we don't have most of famous animes around. So, how could we even buy them if they are not available? And I am talking about Brazil, an western country, not so rich but also not so poor, with the biggest population of Japanese people outside Japan, etc. I bet most Latin American and Asian countries countries (except for Japan, of course) are like us. I also bet that all the countries in Africa are worse then our situation.
    So, basically my point is: you simply cannot buy something if it is not for sail. Therefore, you download it.

    @Digibro This is something I try to convey to everyone without seeming like I'm preaching or pushing. There are actually several single season/partial season series' that I've watched and thoroughly enjoyed. They end in a cliffhanger and I realize that if it ever does get a continuation, it'll probably be half a decade later. I've only recently started purchasing the disk sets of my favorites. But man, are they expensive. And understandably. If more people were buying them then it would follow that they could afford to lower the price. But with so few actually supporting their shows through those purchases, they have to get as much as they can out of each actual sale. This needs more views.

    Videos like this made me realize a long time ago how devastating it can be for a creator that it's fans only demand more without really wanting to give anything to support them.
    And why it is so important help this creators not matter how small you thing your investment is, because that one purchase you made to them can be the last bucks they needed to go ahead in doing more incredible things.

    Also, it's pretty darn hard to buy anything to support the anime/manga/whatever here in the West. It's WAAAAYYY overpriced here, or completely unavailable. It's just easier to find some fan translations and scans online for free.
    If those studios made some kind of Netflix for anime and manga, I wouldn't mind paying $8 a month for access. It would have to be one large anime/manga Netflix, though. If every studio had one, I'd be annoyed.

      I mean Crunchyroll is like a Netflix of anime. The problem is they don't have ALL the shows, but if more people took the risk of subscribing to Crunchyroll I'm sure it could grow more just like Netflix did. Best thing about Crunchyroll is that they are working directly with production houses in Japan so when people subscribe to Crunchyroll they're also supporting the anime industry itself.

      An opinion, but not even a remotely valid one.....Firstly , I'll concede that Season 1.5 with Alfenheim was pretty shit. Second: Season 2 did in fact have character development not in the form of Kirito, but in the form of Sinon who let's face it was the REAL protagonist of GGO. Season 2.5 featured the sleeping knights where not only Asuna learned more about herself, but we learned more about Asuna. We learned just how attatched the Alfenheim incident had made her to Kirito and how Kirito isn't just a lover, but also a rock for her. Not to mention, everybody just hanging around and being normal in these games in season 2.5? I enjoyed that. I also assume you don't know whom the Sleeping Knight's guild are and why they do what they do.

      Sure, that a all sounds good on paper, but it just seems like an excuse to drag the show on longer. I think that's why a lot of people dislike SAO; what started off as a show with an interesting premise became a long winded, scrapped together story made just so they can make more money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you're not allowed to like the show or that studios trying to get by is a bad thing, but to me, when people make art just so they can cash into a trend, it just feels... Well, not like a piece of art.

    • @Darth_Bateman
      @Darth_Bateman 9 лет назад +3

      Except, you're wrong.
      SAO was: What if MMOs trapped you and killed?
      AO was: Let's try to push our heroine and hero over and make them realize just how weak they are without their precious game.
      GGO was: You still have unfinished business, Hero. But, let's meet another person who wasn't in SAO.
      MR was: So what happens after you survive that horrible game and try to get acclimated to a normal life and finally move on?
      Also, what of people who are terminally ill? They would have loved SAO.

      +Creagines RUclips money from ads wouldn't be enough to support a company to make animes. There is like no way. You'd need millions or rather billions of views on everything. RUclips doesn't pay all that well if you don't get milions of views (why do you think Digibro has a patreon despite having hundred thousand of views on every vid? And that's only 1 person. ONE. To make an anime you need an entire team of people with different talents or skills in different aspects. There's also a reason why "RUclips anime" like RWBY has way lower quality than actual anime as well. And even that was Kickstarted, not only made by RUclips ads money. Plus anime is made in months or years, people who live off RUclips generally upload several videos a month to sustain. No way an anime company can do that).

All i want is to download hi res videos of my favorite anime and watch it from my hard drive any time or any place i wanted. sadly for me piracy is my only option. there is no video download option available in my region . DvD and blurays are also not available and I do not like having physical copy of them

      luiysia You can change your region on iTunes. Buy a japanese iTunes card, change your region on iTunes and then you can buy all the anime you want. It also gives you a way to buy music from japan legally.

    I would buy the dvd(s) for my favorite show, but I don't think nearly $300 for a used box set is worth it.
