Hi Jana! Funny! Of course sometimes you have to! Although I have to say i don't like them going near my brushes or paints unless under my close eye! Did you hear him complain of sore ears! lol I asked him to wear headphones so he would not disturb the video or me! lol
Lovely, my main living area is an art studio with my painting table as well as a table for my youngest daughter. She loves to paint with me. Its just me and my 2 children. We are a family of artists, so its fitting that our main living area would be an art studio. So don't apologize for the little one, they belong with us in the studio.
Hi Elli! Thanks! Time is sometimes tight and so I had to record this video with my son in the studio! I do agree it is great to involve them in the process of making marks and art! Sounds like a great home you have! Cheers Scott
Hi Helene! I am sure there is a window where they are interested in this sort of thing and then not at all! I should paint a bit more with my kids rather than late at night when they are asleep!
Hi Sue! Yes Henry is pretty funny! I'm not going to win parent of the year though with him saying his ears are hurting due to the headphones I asked him to wear being to small! lol
Aaaw sweet wee voice in the background. Lovely video and painting Scott, and helpful tips as well. I love to watch the moving water and paint. Take care Alioban x
Hi Alison! Glad you liked the painting and Henry's voice in the background! lol Watercolour moving across the page is what it is all about! Thanks Scott
Hi Scot, this popped up as a liked video. I loved your studio videos, especially when your wee lad made an appearance. Hope alls well with you and yours. All the best......Alioban ❤
Hi Louis Scenti! I'm really happy you find watching the videos valuable! They are sometimes a bit lacking in direction and instruction but they are an open display of me trying to find my way with watercolour in a free style. Cheers Scott
Oh my goodness. I love the colors of the leafs. Reminds me of autumn here in Denmark. The movement of the paint is always such a pleasure to watch. Good work, again 🙂
Hi Scott! I really like the way you paint abstract paintings in large formats, I am also interested in your experiments with artistic materials. As an aspiring watercolorist, I enjoy and learn from your experience. Thank you for that!
Hi Jessica! Yes there are a lot of birds around our house! Lovely and pretty noisy at times! I'm really pleased you enjoy the videos and that you get to hear a bit of Australia. My plan in the future is to film some painting in the Royal National Park (right next to where i live) on the coast on a large scale. That will be fun! Happy painting! Cheers Scott
Just discovered your site. Love your refreshing freedom of using watercolour and how you go with the flow. Very inspiring and captivating seeing you work with the paint and water on that beautiful paper. Makes me want to pick up my brushes and paint.
@@ScottSwinson could I send you some of my abstract paintings so that you give me your impressions?I'm an artist :I learnt oil painting,acrylic(6 years) and now watercolor(6 months) and my style goes definitively towards "abstract".

Hi Jaded Enthusiasms! Thank you! It was interesting! And Henry needing the toilet was funny! Good parenting TV, headphones and hanging out in the studio with dad!
@@ScottSwinson you're so welcome :) yup, sounds good to me!! It's definitely a sign of good parenting that he knew he could come talk to you about it even while in the middle of something and that you weren't phased by it. That's sadly not always the case. It was very sweet! Our son is all grown and lovely, but I miss those little guy times too :) as a really little guy he started with coloring certain pages in his coloring book, then ripping them out to put together his own version of a comic book...then telling his own story, then moved on to drawing them and just got better at drawing which I loved because that skill seemed to have skipped me. I didn't start trying in earnest until early 40's when desperate not go on meds for some issues but needing a positive outlet, so tried and was shocked it was even remotely recognizable and from their have fallen in love with many different forms of art. But we were always happy our son had that outlet all along and we helped however we could knowing it was important :) and its been fun to share our art with each other now that I do a bit...nothing great mind you...but fun nonetheless. So your son will love having that around him and that's awesome!! I love the card swipe thing...I've never tried that. I'll definitely have to try it out though I can't afford real good paper...one day if works picks up I'd love to get some good 100% cotton paper. But for now I'm just thankful for what I have...it may not be great art, but it helps me stay positive through some severe chronic pain and issues that don't allow me to move on some days. And on those days I truly appreciate being able to watch amazing artists like you and others to keep my head positive with all the beautiful art made and being always inspired! So thank you very much for that :) Have a great week, Jade
This is fantastic Scott. Love to watch your loose style and watch watercolour do its thing. Keep the videos coming, I am learning and experimenting. Cheers from Calgary.
Hi Stephen! I'm glad you enjoy them! You have some fantastic mountains where you live and some awesome autumn colour! It will be great to be able to travel again! Cheers Scott
I loved this demonstration. I will watch more and take a class. My style is realistic but have always been fascinated with abstract art. But I didn’t know where to begin it in watercolors. Thank you, Scott!
Hi Bridgett! I am always impressed when someone who paints in a realistic style is also going down the abstract pathway! I don't paint in that way but some of my Patreon's do and the combination of abstraction and realism can be absolutely gorgeous! Good luck! Cheers Scott
Superb! I like you style very much Scott! Thanks a lot for sharing you talent with us! I will definitely try this abstract landscape out. Cheers from Finland. :)
I love the colors you used. I've been applying my paint on with the card and it's wonderful how it mixes and flows on the paper. I liked seeing your studio table in this video. What is the surface of your table. I see you mix paint on it. Have you made a video of your studio and setup for painting? I'd love to see more of your work area and lighting. I think of what I can see in this video my work space is too cramped and cluttered. I've learned so much from your videos. If you have time to give a tour of your studio I'm sure many of us out here would enjoy seeing it. Thank you Scott.
Hi Suzan! I'm really glad you enjoyed this video and others! I did a very quick studio tour a year or more ago but I have since renovated it. I should do a new video showing the work space! Like most of us I would like more room and when I paint a full sheet it gets a bit tight when I'm tilting the board all over the place and when I do the really large watercolours then I do them outside! The surface of the table is Aligloss composite panel from bunnings link below. Not sure if you can get anything similar around the world...
@@ScottSwinson Thank you for the info. I did go to the hardware store here in Colorado and they had a large enough board to go on my table. It's like a felt tip marker board. It was so cheap. I use the same thing to tape my paper to for painting on. I appreciate all your help. I ordered one of the books you recommended, painting landscapes from your imagination. I look forward to the first of the month I'll be joining you on patron. I don't have a Facebook account but I do have an Instagram account. I might have to get a Facebook account if that works better. I do have an Instagram account. I've got to read more of the details of how patron works. Thanks again for all your help.
Love this! It may be my favorite yet. Do you seal your finished work? How do you flatten the paper? Thanks for showing your mesmerizing process. Very dreamy.
Hi Carol! I have at times in the past varnished some of my watercolours with a glass varnish like golden archival one. It does not go glossy and makes some of the colours that go a bit "dead" when painted on too thickly in watercolour gain more life again! I always store them in my map draws under lots of paper so they flatten slowly in that way! Once they are totally, totally dry! Really glad you like it! Favourite yet hey! Cool!
Wow This looked good in all stages, really. I liked the green on top of the tree in the beginning, but seeing the final result, I don`t mind it disappearing. It`s fun to see the artist`s decision making )) Do you go through lots of tubes of paint, Scott? Is this painting sold? Thank you ))
Hi Low Key! Glad you liked it! Yes I do go through quite a bit of paint but not as much as you might expect. I only buy paints about once a year. This painting is not sold yet. I am really rubbish at putting them up on the my website and bluethumb to sell! I really should do that more often!!1 Thanks for watching. If you would like to buy it just email me at: scottswinson1@mac.com cheers scott
Hi Marigold! Glad you liked it. The rives paper is softer as it has less sizing and it whiter than normal arches watercolour paper which makes for very luminous skies! 👍
Scott… just discovered you on RUclips. Thanks for sharing your talent. 😊 Just wondering what your preference is for Rives print paper over watercolour paper. I realise that either way you are choosing 100% cotton but rives paper is always smooth is that right?
Hi Joy, I like Rives because it is soft and can create some of the most lovely soft washes. You also feel like it is becoming part of the paper more than the papers with more sizing in them like Arches. I think in some ways it is harder to work with but I just feel like we are friends. It is pretty smooth like you say. It is probably closer to hot pressed then cold pressed paper. Hope that helps! Cheers Scott
I love revisiting these teachings. I always see something I didn’t see before.
Your work is simply amazing
Thanks, unbelievable the turnout!
Glad I’m not the only parent trying to paint with kids around
