I can't seem to connect to the WiFi? When I go to the WiFi setting on my Android it only gives me other networks BUT Amazon... :(

I just got an Echo and I have a dot on order. Scheduled for delivery May 3rd. I have Alexa controlling my Sensi (bought after seeing your video) some Cree and Belkin bulbs and a Belkin Switch. Looking forward to Amazon releasing more directly supported Belkin devices. IFTTT can be a little flakey.
+Travis Lindberg I need to get more into the IoT / connected home side of things myself. I've got the Sensi, but that's pretty much the smartest connected item in the house.
+Jordan Keyes having Sensi controllable through the Echo is great, I just wish it could tell you the current temperature setting.
Does it work if you don't have any Alexa or amazon device at all or do you need a hub or the amazon Alexa to use it
Very informative and well presented. May I ask a question? What other Amazon products do you need for the dot to work? You had the app on your phone to link it to WIFI, can I just downloaded that app? Finally, I have a Kindle Fire HD 8 the newest Kindle, it has the Alexa app but in the UK it doesn't work yet. Is that the same situation as the dot? Sorry in advance for the daft questions, but I'm old :) Congratulations again on demo of the dot, it was excellent. Thank you.
You shouldn't need any other products to make it work. Technically, you don't even need the app, there's a website where you can do the whole setup using a wifi-connected laptop or desktop, alexa.amazon.co.uk/
And since they sell the Echo Dot in the UK, I'd assume it should work just fine there. amzn.to/2rEIBSs.

I currently have an echo and have ordered 2 dots to expand the coverage in my household (basically the same thing you did) my question is does this par to the original echo also so you can control the entire house from different rooms ? or do you have to pair all individual devices to this one again ? (this may cause conflicts) also say I'm in my bedroom and I set a timer and leave the room will the timer broadcast to the other echo (s) in my house, and can I cancel said timer from the other echo (s) ? I hope I am being clear enough with my questions. .. TIA
+chris anderson the connected home devices should be controllable from any echo immediately. as far as the timers/alarms, I think those are on an Echo-by-Echo device basis.

Handy still struggled though in the end shut alexa down restarted and mived router closer did the trick got a little messge saying was connected - clicked on it

If you have nothing to hide, then no need to worry. The gov isn't going to kick your door down unless you committed serious crimes. Alexa is always "listening" for the command word. With that said, Alexa helped the authorities recently when a lady was murdered. Alexa was recording everything. The lady knew the attacker that broke into her house. She called out his name which alexa saved. The cops were able to make an arrest with the help of alexa.

I got one for Christmas and so far I love it. It woke me up this morning as I set the alarm last night. The only question I have is. Is it portable? can it go with you everywhere?
It's not exactly portable, no. You can unplug it and plug it back in somewhere else, but you'll have to configure it to connect to wifi or a portable hotspot wherever you go.
Okay thank you. So I can take it with me everywhere as long as It can connect to the internet WiFi. That's good because I spend most of my time at work so by the time I get home I'm so tired I don't use it.
Thanks for the tips. Everything you showed was great, but I wished you would have spent more time talking about the Echo App and shown the actual downloading process of installing the app. I.E. I have two pcs and one Amazon Fire tablet. Should I install the echo app on my pc or tablet? How often do you use the Echo app after installing it on a device?
as far as I'm aware, there's not an Echo app for the PC. You can go to alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html once you've got everything set up and view things about your Echo, but the initial setup has to be done from a mobile device, so your Fire tablet.
Once you set up the Echo, you shouldn't need to spend much time in the app or the website. You'll have to go in there to set up purchasing options, if you want to buy things using it, and you can go in there to manage alarms, but you can do that with your voice also.
If you want to manage smart home devices (connected light bulbs, wall outlets, door locks, etc.) you'll have to use the app for that as well.
Great review. I just bought my Amazon Echo Dot today. I have an Amazon Echo too, so it will be interesting how the new update works when you have two devices near each other. Only the nearest one is supposed to respond, not both like before. Mine's going on a night stand as an alarm clock / radio too. I use mine to control my Philips Hue light system as well. Got this because I can connect large external stereo speakers up to it.

Thank you. You edit well. However, I was looking to see if it just plugs in the wall (like a can opener), or if you have to plug in an auxiliary cable in addition to a power cord. I read that, and I have no idea what that is. As you can gather, I am *not* technically oriented, and when I read "auxiliary cable", I went online to see what they mean. You didn't show how it plugs into the wall or if you had an "auxiliary cable", whatever that is. I wish you could just plug it in like an electric pencil sharpener.
It uses a microUSB cable for power, just like most cell phones. The "auxiliary cable" is the 3.5mm audio cable.

ya google now or even better cortana on something like that would be so cool. they are so mutch better then the others i have tryed. i like Cortana best. she also sound the best. Not so robotic.
+Finn Andersen Google Now has been best for me so far because I'm so tied into the Google ecosystem, so having that in a speaker would be amazing. I love having it in Android Wear watches.
ya i am also deep into Google`s world. So something from them would be really awesome . Also wish they would add that to the Shield. So you could interact more with it. at least as a option if you wanted it. :) . Only reason i like Cortana in some ways more on my OPO is she can tell jokes and sutch. :P . Seems a bit more humanish. :) . Never used Android Wear . Would love to but it would need to do what the Fitbit does + does extra things, and assume there isn't a good alternative for that yet. At Least that i have seen.

Oh when I said "all 3" I was talking about Pandora, Spotify and Amazon Music. I just looked at mine and I don't see a way for the Echo to play music off of your phone.

No, you shouldn't. Even the initial setup technically doesn't need a smartphone, they just recommend it. You can do it with a wifi-enabled computer and browser at alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html

I think mine charges but everytime i unplug it dies and does nothing. My version is the white one with out the knob. How do i charge it and carry it around?!!?
The Echo Dot doesn't come with a built-in battery. The only Echo device that does is the Echo Tap. If you want to add a battery to the Echo Dot, you need something like this: ruclips.net/video/gdC-AO7BXR8/видео.html, but it's still not amazing for carrying it around.

Yes, as long as the computer has wifi. Just go to alexa.amazon.com/, click "Settings", then "Set up a new device". It should walk you through the process there.
