    Part 4: • How To: Mustang AOD to...
    One of the more popular swaps known to the Fox platform is swapping the boring AOD automatic transmission for that of a T5. Now granted, we all prefer our own setups, and that's totally fine. But, let's be honest? Bangin' gears in a Fox Mustang is about as American as you can get!
    Part 5 of the series finally closes out the entire swap. During this segment, Landan installs the T5 transmission and puts the final touches together. This also included installations of the clutch cable, speedometer cable, and speedometer gear.

    Appreciate this series. Doing this swap with a TKX in my Mark VII and needed to see where the clutch cable mounts to the frame rail. Been like 15+ years since I did this and had forgotten. Thanks dudes!

    I literally just finished my AOD to T5 swap and there are two things I can say one the weight savings can definitely be felt when running through gears in the t5 and I feel like the car has 5 times the amount of power than with the AOD. Also, these videos definitely helped me through the process. And at times I was beyond mad because things weren’t going right but it feels great in the end. I do have one question though, do people have started issues after they swap? Because mine isn’t working anymore lol

      McLovin 562 unplug the neutral safety switch. And use the jumper that was installed with the aod. It should be the jumper with a green wire if I remember right. Just be carful because our will be able to start the car with it in gear

    I followed this series for my T5 swap and I must say it has been a life saver but something I wish they had mentioned is that the auto and T5 speedometer cables are different lengths. The auto Speedo cable is 4” shorter than the T5 and it WILL NOT work when rerouted unless you eliminate the retaining bracket from the frame rail. Doing this will cause the Speedo cable to rub the steering shaft. Order the 5 speed cable or know ahead of time that the alternative is very sloppy.

    Hello , as an owner of an 88 5.0 , hate to be a s**t disturber , with all the advancements with transmissions manual and automatic, could you also have installed a 6 speed Tremec in this application? I find my fourth gear is a fun gear to drive on the highway until I shift into fifth then I feel I can lean back and fall asleep driving down the highway.. cheers 🍻

    Can you reuse the aod drive shaft with the t5 conversion. It looks like that’s what was done in the video.

      Yes, we reused the AOD driveshaft. However, it was upgraded to an aluminum driveshaft shortly after the conversion. -Landan

    So do you need the natural switch? Should you change the trans wiring harness to a T5 harness and can you still use your AOD computer? Will an 89 mustang trans harness work on an 86 mustang. Also, where do you get the reverse light kit and will there be an issue with the car running with and auto computer. Thanks for the help in advance.

    • @latemodelrestoration
      @latemodelrestoration  7 лет назад

      If you swap to a manual harness, you'll need to source a manual PCM. It's in your best interest to keep harnesses year specific. -Landan

      I was not talking about the main harness just the one that goes under the carpet from the kick panel to the transmission. I am not sure if just switch that would work.

    What if you use a newer t5 with electric speed sensor, do you need a new output shaft

    • @latemodelrestoration

      No, the only real changes that would have to be done are the speedo cable and possibly the internal speedo gear.

    is this process similar on a 99-04 mustang? I have a 99 automatic GT and I want to swap it to manual.

    • @itsnotan8
      @itsnotan8 7 лет назад +1

      Joel Ramirez Pretty similar, with a few differences. first off, there's no speedo cable. The sock driveshaft won't work, and a few other things I'm sure. The transmission in your application would be for 99-01 the t45 and for 02-04 a tr3650. You'll need the manual trans wiring harness, and Im not sure about the fox, but you'll have to get your ecu tuned. If not, you'll get a cel, flashing o/d light, the rpms hang, it'll idle about a 1k rpm too high, and the speedo will read double. I got a bama tune, to fix this. Source: I've done this swap myself on my 2000 mustang v6.

    • @lordXguru
      @lordXguru 7 лет назад

      Wesley Young I'm planning on having a mechanic do this for me, for the parts I'll be heading to a junkyard and getting them myself. He said I need the transmission, clutch cable, clutch and brake assembly, driveshaft, shifter, and transmission support. I'll be buying the flywheel and clutch new and he'll send off to have the transmission rebuilt.

      Hi , i have just started doing a tremec swap in a 86 f150 , i read a forum article , AOD is the same length as the tremec 3550 and i think T5 and have same output spline, and cross member gets turned around 180 degrees . easy swap.
