I did this swap years ago, installing the pedals was a nightmare, the rest is easy compared to that, lol, also this is one of those jobs where if you are needing to replace your heater core and evaporator and or your carpet might as well and do it all at once,i know a lot of hard hard work but think about it,not only will you have a bitching new T5 to bang gears in you will also have nice hot air and freezing A/C.
I did did the swap in a 1990 Coupe Mustang. I did it have to remove the steering column just take it loose I did remove the driver seat and that was the only thing that I had to remove I use the same transmission crossmember and the same drive shaft
Hello, I have a question when doing the swap to change the AOD transmission to a T5, is it mandatory to make any changes to the ecu or harness that goes to the engine? my ecu is an X3Z
Anyone able to offer thoughts on how long this might take total? I'm a reasonably competent, but somewhat unexperienced home mechanic. I've got a good set of tools (and access to lots more) and am doing lots of research ahead of time to try to figure out where I might have problems and try to head them off. I don't have any idea whatsoever how much time this swap might take. Any thoughts?
I've looked in the comments and guess no one has asked, or maybe I missed it but how much would this entire job cost someone who doesn't know how to do all this work?
There are a ton of variables when it comes to price for a complete AOD to T5 swap. Feel free to give us a call at 1-866-507-3786 or email us using the link below - lmr.com/contact
tunnel hump is not required. im not buying your "required" piece haha. but thanks for the vid. doing my swap next weekend will be useing these vids for sure
Jeezus chrize.... I was considering this, and it would be a lot easier for me since I won't need any interior, but damn, I will just pay for a manual car instead and sell the auto junk I have.
It really all depends on how you want to do the swap. The pedal assembly will need to be retrieved from a salvage yard. The tunnel hump kit will need to be purchased brand new unless you want to drill out the spot welds from the donor car and transfer that one over to your car. Other than that, you can purchase everything else brand new from our website, lmr.com If you don't want to go that route, pull everything T5 related from the donor car. Hope this helps. -Landan
It depends on what tools you have, lift or jackstands, extra hands to help, experience with these kinds of installs, etc. It can vary from a couple of hours to a full weekend. Everyone is different when it comes to a large install.
Hi @@keithbeauchamp8603, as mentioned, the install varies on how much experience the installer has and what tools you have access to. It's possible to complete the entire swap in a couple of hours.
Yes. However, it's not 100% needed. If you like doing things the correct way, then I would strongly recommend it. lmr.com/item/LRS-7277A/1979-93-Mustang-Manual-Transmission-Tunnel-Hump We are currently out of stock, but should have some within a few days. -Landan
I guess it would be the bezel. It is the black plastic piece that snaps to the consol. From pictures I seen the 86 mustang one looks the same from auto to manual. I am just trying to confirm if I am right.
just so everyone knows you can also use a T5 transmission from a cylinder Mustang have to change the bell housing and Matt a pilot bearing look up the diameter on the input shaft is different. it will be where they stop Mustang just won't handle the torque of a high horsepower car but a 4-cylinder will work behind a V8
Pilot bearing is from a 83 Ford ranger Diesel. I done this swap on a 89 fox I had. 1st gear was basically useless because how low the gearing is and 2nd isn’t much better lol
Joseph Bentley you act as if that's a draw back..... I rather do a clutch job every year than drive a boring car that will never put a smile on my face.
+Samuel Paniagua Lol @ people who need to constantly fondle a phallic object while driving. I have both kinds of mustangs and can downshift just as well in the automatic.
Joseph Bentley lol at people who look for phallic objects where they don't exist. it's loads more fun to drive a manual, nothing fun about sticking a lever in "D" and drive off.
Thank god this series exists, boutta watch this series 20 times a day for the next month

Is it possible to do this with a 2.3 liter?
@@Someguyto yes
I need to see this for the 05 - 09 model, thinking of going with the tremec 6 speed
HELL YEAH!!! Thanks guy's,been waiting for a LMR swap video for a while!

What about the trans wire harness and harness from the auto car harness
Why did we remove the seat again?
Hello, I have a question when doing the swap to change the AOD transmission to a T5, is it mandatory to make any changes to the ecu or harness that goes to the engine? my ecu is an X3Z
No. You can use the X3Z without swapping any harnesses. -Landan
late model restoration is the best!
Thanks for the great feedback! -Landan

did you ever swap it?
my nephew wants to do this exact swap
Since you guys don’t sell the pedal assembly, what is the average price from one from a junkyard or second hand seller? So I don’t get ripped off
I normally see these go anywhere from $50-$150 depending on the condition used.

I did it to a 1988 cougar and Mustane I didn’t have to remove the column
didn't you guys used to sell a complete swap kit? Ive been looking for a kit, I didnt want to go to the trouble of sourcing every part needed.
Yes, we did. We are in the process of bringing it back minus the pedal assembly since we are having trouble sourcing those.

Nice! I bet that car is night and day. -Landan
I'm going to need that aod now
How hard would it be to install a TCI auto in place of my T5 equipped fox?

Can you please message me and let me know what all I need to put an automatic transmission in an 89 mustang after taking the five-speed out

Would this be much different from a 98 V6 Mustang?
The concept is generally the same, however, wiring and much more will be different.
would this work for a 2.3l
Yes
Is it the same with the 1985 mustang gt?
Yes it is. This swap series is for 1984-1993 Fox's
Do you need the manual trans tunnel hump for an 86 mustang. If so where do you find it on your site?
Yes. However, it's not 100% needed. If you like doing things the correct way, then I would strongly recommend it.

Can I use my AOD Center console shifter cover? If so do you carry them?
Shifter cover? Are you referring to the bezel? If so, they are automatic and manual specific. -Landan
I guess it would be the bezel. It is the black plastic piece that snaps to the consol. From pictures I seen the 86 mustang one looks the same from auto to manual. I am just trying to confirm if I am right.

Would this kit work on a sn95?
Hi Dylan, this kit will not work on the SN95 platform. It only fit on 84-93 Fox Body Mustangs.

How much to do the swap?

LOL he can't say automatic without saying atrocious first.
Better buy a ton of clutches if going manual..will go through more repair vs an auto.

You say it like you're gonna be replacing the clutch every other month. I've had OEM clutches last 70,000+ miles
just leave em alone alan, he obviously doesn't know how to drive since he needs to buy a ton of clutches when owning a manual
Ok so the cable hole should already exist in the firewall
Yes, this is correct.

Would this work for an SN95 aswell?
This video was designed specifically for 84-93 Fox swaps only
Is it possible for 04 to 09?
