Hiker Accidentally Shoots Himself While Fighting Bear

- A hiker accidentally shot himself while fighting a 400-pound brown bear in Alaska. As the massive bear pounced, Tyler Johnson was somehow able to grab his pistol and shoot. However, he accidentally shot himself above his knee. His other leg was in worse shape after the bear bit into it. Fortunately, Johnson's dad wrapped his son's leg in a makeshift tourniquet and signaled for help using his satellite service. Two hours later, a helicopter came to the rescue.

Definitely not a "make shift tourniquet".

I was thinking the same thing. 😅

I thought they were chillin with the bear afterwards and made up 😂😂

after the camera turned off, the bear just casually wakes up and gave them high five
At first I thought it hadn't happen yet and they snuck up on a resting bear and he recorded the attack. Was about to write wtf, of course it attacked.
Prolly taking a selfie.
Hopefully, that bear didn't have cubs.
He didn't take the opportunity for the "bear with me" joke but that's understandable given the circumstances. Maybe next time!

A beautiful creature for a beautiful carpet.
have some of you in the comments seriously never been outside of a city?
let alone their homes 🍷🗿
Yes, the wilderness is a dangerous place. Don’t need to be mauled by a bear to know it’s probably unpleasant.
Shows you how detached people have become, they would die first when the grid goes down lol
As someone who does deliveries in the city all day, you'd be surprised how many people haven't left their home since covid started. Ohhh the poor bear 🐻
Im sorry
But poor bear
🥺😭
I know right. He was minding his business. I feel bad for the bear. 😢😢
Exactly. Technically the bear was in his own habitat. We humans always want to go into the wild, destroy their habitats, and then fully blame them when we get attacked. Poor bear!
@@MochiColorsZanosright! Seeing that poor bears body just lying there really got to me 😢
@@MochiColorsZanosI also feel bad for the bear, but I don’t think the guy was destroying the habitat. I think he he was another average hiker who stumbled into the wrong place at the wrong time.
Rest in peace Yogi Bear 😢
When will people ever learn......Give animals their space.
He wasn't following the bear.
Based on the story, there's no indication he was harassing or chasing the bear. If we take it at face value, the bear suddenly appeared and rushed him without warning.
Granted, it's possible there's more that we aren't being told. But as of what we know now, there's nothing indicating he was pestering the bear.
Unless your argument is that no human should ever be in the woods, ever?
That would imply never leaving a city or town.
What from all this info on the video made you think he was not giving it space?
Yea cause every hiker knows exactly where every bear is. You think there’s a welcome mat that’s says “bear lives here”?
The 2nd ammendment does give Americans the right to BEAR arms

Well they did enter at there own risk, they new there might be a problem but at least they were prepared, you do realise that some time’s bears will come into town’s as well so everyone can be at risk at certain time’s.

how much did the helicopter ride cost?
Whenever hunters buy a hunting or fishing license alot of times it will pay for search and rescue in case of emergency.

Bear got killed for being a bear. Usually the happy ending for home invasion stories is when the invader gets it.
Nature has open borders. We shall encourage immigration
No bear spray but brings a pistol. Someone is trigger happy and I’m not talking about the dead bear.
It wasn't just her home. It has also belonged to moose, gophers, eagles, caribou and humans for thousands of years. And she should've run. Most bears her size would run when startled; especially in that area, as they're used to human presence and know the boundaries. The men had the right to defend themselves. Yeah, it's a pity she didn't get a chance to pass along those beautiful genes, but she's the one who made the wrong call.
@@ES11777Bear spray is good but by no means a guarantee of safety. Same as a firearm. Everyone in bear country should carry both.
No it was killed for attacking. If it didnt attack them they wouldnt have killed it no matter what species it was.
And now you got a new bearskin rug 😂
All that bear was trying to do is protect the woman he was with from that man 😂
The title kinda demonizes the firearm.. Without it he'd be dead.
That's a CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet).
Wow! Quick in action. I lived near Sequoia national forest in California been around California black bears they rarely attack unless to protect their cubs or feel threatened. I had a close call of a bear ready to charge, I stood tall made loud noise, yelled and that scares them off
Looks like his dad still changing his diapers lol
What happened to the bear's body?
The head went to a lab for rabies testing. Where the rest of it went depends on Alaska state laws. But it's doubtful the meat went to waste. It would go to the men who killed the bear, to a soup kitchen and/or to a local Alaska Native tribe.
