The teams mentality totally reminds me of 54. Hard work and love of the game through and through. Still can't believe the lions have become an elite organization in the NFL. And in only 3 going into the 4th year. Mind boggling what they've done with this organization
The fact that the Lions hired Chris Spielman is why I bought a throwback # 54 jersey last year. It’s the only Lions jersey I’ve ever owned and I wear it with pride.
Everything Chris Spielman has done has been excellent: Buckeye, Lion, husband, TV commentator, special assistant to Sheila. The Lions are fortunate to have Chris in the building. Thanks Chris for being a great man and example in Allen Park. Go Blue!
Us Lion's fans don't get to hear from Chris enough. Thank you for all that you did to influence this turn around. I feel like we owe you a great debt. One Pride 💪🦁
Chris a very humble administrator and mentor. Without 54 we would not be here today. Thanks for your passion for the team. Echo of the whistle only way to play.
Chris Spielman was awesome for the Lions. He’s been behind the scenes for this Lions rebuild not always getting the credit he deserves. It was interesting to hear him speak. Glad he still works for the organization.
Been a Lions fan since before Chris was drafted. My favorite defensive Lion of all time, and I must have racked up 1000s of sacks in Tecmo Bowl games with Chris over the years. This was AMAZING. Thank you for this, Ryan and Rick and Chris. And thank you, Chris, for everything you've done to help get this team where it is. This is more satisfying and fulfilling than anything I could have written in my wildest dreams. THANK YOU! ONE PRIDE.
The only Buckeye that I'm a fan of, really love that guy. Robbie Timmons was also a Buckeye and she's a incredible person, Bransetter married a wonderful person. I saw a blanket knitted half Michigan and the team down south.
Wow now we all just saw and heard what GENUINE is. Chris is so admired by the Lions fanbase and we are thrilled he is enjoying his multi role assignments with the Lions organization . Best of all, he's our big dog.
Quinn and Patricia left the worst roster in team history, and three short years later, Brad, Dan, Chris and company have the best roster in team history. This is more fun than I could have possibly imagined.
Chris Speilman was my hero growing up. He was the reason I wore 54 & played linebacker. I met him on the sidelines before my state championship football game in the Pontiac Silverdome in 1992. I’ll never forget that moment. The way he ran his life off the field, his leadership and grit on the field has inspired me to be the man & father I am today. I hope to meet him one day again.
This is the kind of stuff I love to listen to. Chris talking about all the great players he went up against and how he genuinely can’t explain how he was able to hang with them… I mean, wow! Tell you what, give me Chris over ALL of them. GRIT! EVERY DAY!
I could listen to these guys for hours talking ball and talking life. Loved Chris when he manned the middle of the Lions defense and am so glad he's with the organization and helping them to become the best they can be. We want the whole enchilada!
Chris Spielman is my favorite Lions a man's man. Got a chance to meet him in 1993 as a hs football player at the Silverdome prep kickoff classic. He's a simple dude who wants to do his job and lay low. He gets all weird when someone gives him compliments but he's a straight blue collar dude. Man he's hilarious I see why Barry, and Lomas and his past teammates love that dude.
Well Chris I can say I praise you any chance I get as a player and now basically an exec. "Hire good people and stay out of their way. I preach it every day at work. True class.
@@joshlewis575Barry's athleticism was incredible but 54's maniacal pursuit to the ball was must see TV. You could feel his energy through the TV, I'm so glad he's navigating us now!
Awesome insight 15:45 nobody ever told us chris was offered gm job. Thats outstanding work by him to turn down a great job like that and have the foresight to know how he could help the lions. Everyday im just more reassured we have the best organization in all of sports. Plus im pretty sure rick is working as distant advisor, throwing names to chris. No way rick interviews arnold and rakestraw, is blown away by them, then the lions just happen to draft BOTH
I remember how it went down. In an interview with Herman Moore after the Thanksgiving debacle, he recommended Chris Spielman on the Pride of Detroit podcast. A couple days later, PoD reported that Sheila interviewed Chris for the GM position, but he declined and was hired as a special executive assistant to the team.
I remember back in the '90s leaving the Lions games and listening to the post game show on the radio and you could hear the absolute frustration and emotion in chris spieleman's voice doing the interviews if they lost. Me and my buddy used to say wow it really seems like he cares more than any player on the team by how hard he took the losses. It was all so very heartfelt. I've never forgot that
Watching this was Time well spent. I loved this interview. I am so thankful Chris is still involved with the lions. It was his foresight that gave us Dan Campbell & Brad Holmes and make us finally proud to be a Lions fan. Thank you Chris a hundred times Thank you!
I had said for years before they hired Chris he was the guy The Lions needed to turn their team around. I originally thought he should have been the GM but advising Shelia is even better. She needed somebody that knew football helping her. Now we have a great owner and now a great team.
I put my Spiellman jersey on every game day my jersey is from the last time the lion's played in the nfc championship. My favorite player on and off the field. I am so glad and proud to have him back in the lions organization!
I’m 40 years old and a life long Lions fan and Chris Spielman was my favorite player when I was a kid. I can’t tell you how extra special this Lions turnaround is knowing how much of a hand Chris had in it!
What a blessing for me to have Chris as a part of my Lions Football memories. He was always a huge fan favorite bc he possessed and regularly displayed a rarity in the franchise- TRUE Grit.
Between this interview, multiple interviews with Campbell and Holmes I've seen, St Brown, Goff etc... You can just tell the Lions have the right people in place and are a winning organization nowadays. It's so weird to say this but it's true they are doing things the right way with the right people. Never been more excited about Detroit sports team since the Pistons and the late '80s you could tell we're also this way
My whole life I never understood why we couldn't just be a Pittsburgh, Baltimore, new England, type where you're good every year. Feels so weird to now be one of the big boys. Long as they keep Brad and Dan around they'll continue to be elite
It was an absolute shame that Chris Spielman didn’t finish his career as a Lion. It’s good to see him back in the organization where he belongs. It’s not a surprise that he’s been integral to the rebirth of the franchise.
This is freaking awesome! A lot of people bitched when we pick him. Not fast enough, not tall enough, blah, blah, blah. I knew he'd be the player he was. Give me a whole team of players like that. And I'll give you a championship team. Keep it simple, common sense, works to this day. Unfortunately, seems to be lacking in the majority of society, today! Thanks Chris, for all you do dude, much appreciate it! Thanks to Rick and Ryan for the vid! Good stuff guys!
One of the funny things about The story were Chris said his daughter said to him thanks for making me not afraid to win or lose reminds me of when the Lions were getting into big games late in the season they asked Dan Campbell with his team would be nervous and he said I told them there's nothing to be nervous about. This is the most exciting part about playing this game is the big games, the memories that come with them, etc. He told him to embrace the pressure. Funny you don't hear many coaches talk like that and it's so true instead of being scared of it embrace it it almost gives you a high and makes you feel alive
I knew he had a part, never knew it was such a massive part though. I mean just identifying Dan of all people, wow great work. Like he said Dan is the definition of leader of men. And plucking Brad too, holy shit what a job!! Thanks 54!!
That was the most important person that Sheila hired, the rest is only going to get better. It started with Speilman helping to build the Lions. They are going to be relevant regardless of what the so called experts say, for quite awhile.
I had a huge hunch the DC BH hires were based on 54's recommendations. This leadership oozes fearlessness. You can tell Chris feels guilty having not brought the Lombardi to Detroit and found another way to do it as only he can. As a season ticket holder, I thank him. Loved Barry's athleticism but watching 54's grit might have been more special. I remember a Lions beat writer looking to interview Barry about a half hour after a loss to the vikings. Barry wasn't in the locker room but running wind sprints on the field. As he said it sounds logical. I know all these dudes work out but I'm sure a bunch coast during a time like now. Figuring we'll I'll get in peak shape during training camp. If u keep them through these few weeks u know they'll be in peak shape b4 training camp. I'd imagine that'd cut down on training camp injuries for sure.

100%. Great on the field. Great in the booth. And apparently Great in the front office. Smart and humble....I love it.
Totally agree! One name up there I also feel is an integral piece that nobody mentions is John Dorsey
Amen
Chris Speilmam is a treasure!! Thank God he's in our organization helping us become exceptional

Well said
I love Chris Spielman. First as a player, and now how he has helped turn the Lions around after all these years.
I like him more now in the office then before on the field
I was 12 years old when the Lions drafted Chris and loved watching him as a kid. So glad he is back with the organization, it's a blessing.
Did you see Chris on Home Improvement with Tim Allen back then? It was a classic episode.
@@nohandleforme.... That was one of my favorite shows growing up. I believe Dave Craig and Kelvin Pritchett were on that same episode.
Chris Spielman was awesome for the Lions. He’s been behind the scenes for this Lions rebuild not always getting the credit he deserves. It was interesting to hear him speak. Glad he still works for the organization.
Chris is a Legend. One Pride!

92 for me
As interviews go , this one is amazing. As a 64 yo Lions fan, this interview has me more convinced our Lions are going to give us what we all want.
Damn i just love this whole fckn organization now. I've been a Lions fan my whole life but this is another level.
Chris's insight is second to none. Im glad hes getting his due even though he could care less
Wow now we all just saw and heard what GENUINE is. Chris is so admired by the Lions fanbase and we are thrilled he is enjoying his multi role assignments with the Lions organization . Best of all, he's our big dog.
Chris is a Lions treasure and should get all the respect he deserves Go Lions......
Quinn and Patricia left the worst roster in team history, and three short years later, Brad, Dan, Chris and company have the best roster in team history. This is more fun than I could have possibly imagined.
Worse than 2008? Not even close… decker, stafford, ragnow, Jonah Jackson….
They demolished a good secondary room that had Slay, Diggs and Glover Quin. It took 3 years to rebuild the mess Patricia and Quinn left behind.
I’ve never seen Chris Spielman smile before this pod. Great stuff
Chris Speilman was my hero growing up. He was the reason I wore 54 & played linebacker. I met him on the sidelines before my state championship football game in the Pontiac Silverdome in 1992. Great show...These 2 dudes have gave so much to the game of football. Hey Chris dont quit your day job but your missed calling games on Sundays.
I'd watch a game just because he was calling but glad he came back
I know me too his skill set calling games was incredible
This is the kind of stuff I love to listen to. Chris talking about all the great players he went up against and how he genuinely can’t explain how he was able to hang with them… I mean, wow! Tell you what, give me Chris over ALL of them. GRIT! EVERY DAY!
Amon-Ra is also the youngest of 3 brothers. That will make you tough AF. This was really enjoyable Chris is a riot.
I could listen to these guys for hours talking ball and talking life. Loved Chris when he manned the middle of the Lions defense and am so glad he's with the organization and helping them to become the best they can be. We want the whole enchilada!
Chris Spielman will always be one of my top Lions and so important to the rebirth. Love this guy!
Hell yes!!! Finally an interview w chris! Been waiting on this forever.
Truely one of the best interviews on football I have ever watched. Informative and completely entertaining, honest interview. Do not miss this one!
This video was the best, funniest, and most entertaining video I’ve ever watched. Of course I’m a lions fan so that helped to hold my attention

What a great interview, Chris just gets me pumped up every time he speaks.
One of the best interviews I have seen all off season. This is how u build a team! Pistons need to take notes.
Loved this, tyvm...Chris Spielman is my all-time Favorite Lion, the 1st only lions jersey I ever bought
My second favorite lion of all time. Had his jersey in high school and wish I still had it
I remember Spielman and Blades wreaking havoc back in the day. I’m so glad Spielman is part of the awesome ride we’re about to take 🦁 🚀 💪
Well Chris I can say I praise you any chance I get as a player and now basically an exec. "Hire good people and stay out of their way. I preach it every day at work. True class.
Seriously, I've now listened to this 3 times today. Such an excellent interview with Chris that makes me so proud to be a Lions fan.💪🦁💙
Finally we can be proud to be a lions fan Thank you Chris!!
A Football Life on Spielman is GREAT!!! I cried.
As someone who grew up in the 90s 54 was the epitome of bad ass football player. Dude was my 1st favorite defender, he was great

Maybe the media but anyone who actually watched him play saw he had IT.
What a great segment. Now I have to go work on my craft.🤣🤣
I love the coffee sleeve over the beer cans.
Noticed that too lol.
Honestly only noticed after I noticed he seemed buzzed lol. Get it Spiel!
Awesome segment! Great discussions and insights! Thanks!! Small correction, but Dan Campbell replaced Joe Philbin in Miami in 2015 as the "Interim."

Unsung Hero!
One of my all time fav interviews!!!! 58 yr Lion fan
Not sure if any other org in history had its former player(s) navigate them to the promise-land after decades of losing but my lifetime as a Lions fan feels like a made for movie script right now.
Chris is such a gem to have around the team, dude was a badass player, absolutely no fear.
I've heard that Barry would be sleeping on a training table and Chris would be in the bathroom throwing up before games. Chris is the ultimate person to help the Lions be good for a long time, not a one and done build team. He truly cares about what he does and the people he helped to build this team.
I remember a Lions beat writer looking to interview Barry about a half hour after a loss to the vikings. Barry wasn't in the locker room but running wind sprints on the field. A half hour later, he still couldn't find him as he was in the weight room. All this after a loss to maintain his 34 inch thighes and his insane cutting ability. Frustration with a bad Lions team and breaking free of the superhuman workout routine were probably both reasons he walked away from the game.
A true Lion 🦁 ONE PRIDE
Agree with Chris on changing dates for OTA and mini camp to help players towards prep and safety.

We have something special cooking in Detroit!

Thank you Chris, its a honor to be a Lions fan in large part because of you. Just rewatched Football life. God bless you, your family. Love ya Man!
This was great! Chris is very very impressive. I am a jets fan and I don’t think we have anything remotely close to Sheila, Chris, Brad and Dan.
this was awesome guys
thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this
It’s a good time to be Lion fan
The mental toughness story Chris told at the end had Ryan dying, me too 😂😂
Chris really did help hire two guys that think about football in the same exact way he does. I see why Rick's wife said he hired himself.
Chris is so awesome! I hope he's on dozens more pods this off-season
"Spielman" is the name of the grain of sand that created a pearl: the essence of pure grit that transformed our Lions.
Chris has always been my favorite Lion, St. Brown is the closest we have on the team today!!!
Great interview! Takes awhile to get into the interesting details but it’s worth the wait! 👍🏻
I used to hate when he called lions games on tv !! Because he would always point out what they was doing wrong and I thought he hated us lol. So I owe Chris a huge apology because I cursed him so much under my breath lol
U could definitely feel his disappointment when they'd stink it up.
7:36 through 8:08 is probably the most satisfying answer I've ever heard a sports executive give in my life.
Chris Spielman has been central to the fortune change and success of the Detroit Lions. I so look forward to him getting a Detroit Lions Super Bowl winners Ring.
Love Chris so much .. but this makes you appreciate GOOD podcasts lol
Love that shirt Chris is wearing. He was all about work as a player. Great message to the kids on the current Lions team.
LOL at @56:51 you finally got this dude to laugh. That took some work, but it paid off well.
Really good interview
Love speilman he is the man he has helped made this team one of the best in the business
Love this!
