I've been a Lion fan since 1970. While there are comedic moments here, this is seriously emotional stuff to the Die-Hard Lion fans. We've suffered with this team through all of life's trials and tribulations. And even after some of the most gut-crushing, embarrassing, unfair, inept, and unlucky moments/years any sports fan could never dream of happening, we continued to love this team. Now, thanks to Sheila Ford, Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, Jeff Daniels, and Payton Manning, we have joy. We may still not ever win it all, but we have JOY. We have a TEAM, that is a mirror image, of US. LIONS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan Campbell broke the curse by being awesome. Brad Holmes too. We finally got a combo that were intelligent enough to win. Not least btw is Sheila. That girl picked Dan Campbell. She knew. Sheila broke the curse.
I absolutely love the fact that Tom Brady and the Patriots comes up in every segment. Usually brought up by Peyton himself. It's the highest compliment I can imagine and it's thoroughly appreciated. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are joined in American sports mythology forever!
Don't forget that Matthew Stafford going to Highland High School just like Bobby Layne. Came to Detroit and was traded out of Detroit just like Bobby Layne. So thank you Matthew Stafford for helping us to break this curse. 😂😢😅
I had no idea about a curse, nor ever heard of Bobby Layne when I became a Lions fan in 1977....I have been through some of the toughest times with this team and am thankful the curse is over.
I watched this when it went up originally on ESPN+ and was amazed at how the entire City of Detroit wasn’t talking about it. I’ve told so many people about this who had no idea what I was talking about 🤦♂️ THANK YOU PEYTON AND JEFF FOR BREAKING THE CURSE!
The interesting thing about Layne & the 50s lions was the timing of detroit. Like Miami of the 80s & portland of the 90s per capita no city was more culturally & economically more significant than detroit. The lions are a microcosm of the city.
The Lions remind me a lot of the Melbourne Football Club, where they were cursed by a legendary figure from their organisation to never win the main prize before turning it around nearly 50-60 years later. Hope the Lions get that same fortune.
I have been a Peyton Manning fan since the first time I saw him play at Tennessee and I love him even more now! Thanks Peyton and Jeff! #VFL #ONEPRIDE #GRIT
Here's a crazy one; Matthew Stafford went to the same High School as Bobby Lane. When they drafted him 1 overall I thought that would be the cure, which in a way he did help break it by asking for the trade that brought us Jared Goff.
It's not the curse of Bobby Lane. It's the curse of William Clay Ford. He hired people who were incompetent but he liked them and was totally didn't care about the team. He cared about his ego. If you stroked his ego you had a job for life.
The Herschel Walker trade was the worst on the Vikings. That gave the Cowboys a dynasty in the 90’s… and ironically, Hershel came right back to the Cowboys in 1996 and was more productive than he had been in years.
If the Lions' QB drinks enough ALCOHOL to win championships, then the fans won't have to drink so much to endure a disappointing season. Might want to change the contents of Goff's Gatorade bottle!
As of today Friday November 15 2024 the Detroit lions are 8-1 and currently leading the nfc north and they have the number 2 seed in the nfl only second to the chiefs with patrick mahomes they really lifted it
As a Vikings fan, if my drunk-ass QB was winning us Super Bowls, he can drink as much as he wants, Game is about to kick off, "would you like a Jack & Coke?"
Laynewas past his prime when the Lions traded him ro Pittsburgh after rhe first game of 1958. The Lions knew this because they made him share the quarterback job with the newly-acquired Tobin Rote in 1957. The Lions received Earl Morral in exchange and Morral played well for the Lions for seven years before being traded to rhe Giants in August, 1965.
I truly believe this worked... The lions are 20-7 since. After they had the tub ritual in the end zone, them lions have gone on a huge run. Thank you Payton.

It is rumored that when Bobby Layne "cursed" the Detroit Lions after trading him in 1958, he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "The Detroit Lions won't win anything for the next 50 years." Well, they didn't, only winning one playoff game during that time. 2008 was the 50th anniversary of Bobby's "curse" and that was the Lions 0-16 season.
