The Lions were 1-6 the day this aired, finished the season 8-2, then went 12-5 and won 2 playoff games. We all know curses aren't real, but....
Also won the NFC north soooo
Yeah. Honestly, put him and Keegan's statues right next to the team if they win a SB any time soon.
the football gods are
@@kyledock4470 imagine not having a football team which changes a cities culture
@@kyledock4470 I went to the first one!
“Over a million people have claimed to have had a drink with Bobby Layne, and none of them are lying.”
William Clay Ford Sr is about in that category too Ive heard lmao
🤣
@@imfknradio9978 Yep, WCF bought the controlling interest and became majority owner of the Detroit Lions on November 22nd, 1963. The same day President Kennedy was assassinated. Bad timing, indeed.
Hearing “when the lions make a deep deep playoff run this place will go nuts.” In may of 2024 gave me chills
The Lions were 3-12 in Dan Campbells first season and promptly went 1-6 to start his second season. Then Payton and Jeff did this... since then the Lions have gone 22-8 including 2 playoff wins, a division title, and NFCC appearance! They really did lift that curse!!!
The curse was that the Lions would never win another Championship, so unless that happens, the curse is still in effect.
3-13-1*
@@brotherpaulv as a lions fan, the curse for us was not believing we could even win a playoff game. Now that we believe, I don’t really think the curse is about the championship (even tho I know that’s the original curse)
Lions Haven't Really Lifted The Curse Til They Win A SuperBowl This Season May Just Be There Chance To Win A SuperBowl
@@brotherpaulvthanks for stating the obvious. They are already so good and will win a championship soon.
"Belichick's dark magic was too strong" 😂😂😂
The Lions should give Peyton and Jeff a ring if they ever win the Super Bowl for doing this
Keegan as well
A colt and bronco Lombardi trophy 🏆🏆.. talking lion
Thank you Jeff and Peyton!
Sincerely,
A Life Long Lions Fan 🦁
"I always look like an undercover cop it's unavoidable" 😂
I am still beside myself that Peyton Manning was able to break the curse of Bobby Lane with one comedic person that being Jeff Daniels need I say more
Say less, but use punctuation this time!
@@enbentz ok no need to be rude
No, you need not. Enough has already been said.
If the Lions win the super bowl, Peyton should get a ring too.
Jeff Daniels and Eminem too
100%
I watched this when it went up originally on ESPN+ and was amazed at how the entire City of Detroit wasn’t talking about it. I’ve told so many people about this who had no idea what I was talking about 🤦♂️ THANK YOU PEYTON AND JEFF FOR BREAKING THE CURSE!
8:42 “Cleveland Browns coach sends guard Chuck Noll into the game.”
Yup, THAT Chuck Noll 😊.
O the irony. STEELAS GONNA SUPA BOWL
Great job with Peyton and Jeff finally getting the Lions back on track! Thanks Guys! Go Lions!
" If and when we go deep,, deep into the playoffs this place will go nuts..."
Yup.
It is rumored that when Bobby Layne "cursed" the Detroit Lions after trading him in 1958, he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "The Detroit Lions won't win anything for the next 50 years." Well, they didn't, only winning one playoff game during that time. 2008 was the 50th anniversary of Bobby's "curse" and that was the Lions 0-16 season.
Thanks for the great footage of Bobby Layne slinging the rock, its vintage video, and Layne was a character like no other.
He's the best QB in Detroit Lions history while Jared Goff is #2 and hot on his trail, especially if he wins a Super Bowl.
Thank you to Peyton and Jeff for performing this ritual at Ford Field. The "curse" is over!
Yeah, this curse was WILD. Detroit is the example of some mad bad luck, and thats coming from a Bears fan. Honestly, I have mad respect for their fans, because anyone that can stick with them, regardless of that curse, thats a true fan. I can respect the hell out of that. At the heart of being a fan, riding those highs and lows together and just keeping hope, its everything. Also, love this style Peyton! "Belichecks dark magic was just too strong" 🤣
Respect, sir!
people forget that fan, is short for fanatic. "a person who is extremely interested in something, to a degree that some people find unreasonable."
Peyton's delivery and sense of comedic timing are better than the majority of professional comedians.
“Now light it on fire” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Full episode was awesome, we needed this done!
Thank you Peyton and Jeff!!! Go Lions!!!
Dan Campbell broke the curse by being awesome. Brad Holmes too. We finally got a combo that were intelligent enough to win. Not least btw is Sheila. That girl picked Dan Campbell. She knew. Sheila broke the curse.
step one was getting Chris Spielman home.
The only “curse” was that the Ford family owned the team and had no idea what they were doing.
And after this aired, Dan Campbell’s team has been bitting knee caps all over the NFL
Thank you Jeff and Peyton. I never thought I’d see the day when the Lions were in the mix to win the Super Bowl
Peyton manning has been my hero since I played nfl street 2 , he did right by Detroit and I love if
Hated Peyton for a very long time. My man did this and he's all right in my book. Thank you, Manning!
I had no idea about a curse, nor ever heard of Bobby Layne when I became a Lions fan in 1977....I have been through some of the toughest times with this team and am thankful the curse is over.
Omaha has done a great job in stepping this series up. Even the B roll feels like its gone to the next level
The Lions remind me a lot of the Melbourne Football Club, where they were cursed by a legendary figure from their organisation to never win the main prize before turning it around nearly 50-60 years later.
Hope the Lions get that same fortune.
I just realized Jared Goff throws just like Bobby Layne
And now the Lions got all the way to the doorstep of the Super Bowl before they were stopped. I sure hope Detroit's fortunes are on the rise now
Always had a soft spot in my heart for The Lions after watching the movie "Paper Lion" Waay back in the day.
That was truly the worst trade in football history.
The Herschel Walker trade was the worst on the Vikings. That gave the Cowboys a dynasty in the 90’s… and ironically, Hershel came right back to the Cowboys in 1996 and was more productive than he had been in years.
Then Stafford for two 1st round pics and Jared Goff was the best trade in NFL history
@@mikebradt8080 If the Lions have gotten some talent with those draft pics, but they too need to win the Superbowl for this to be the best trade.
@@victormaniaci2104 agreed, and everything they are doing is putting them in position for this to happen.
@@mikebradt8080about 9 months from now should do it!
I'm so glad the Lions are relevant again. Peyton and Jeff really did it.
It's not the curse of Bobby Lane. It's the curse of William Clay Ford. He hired people who were incompetent but he liked them and was totally didn't care about the team. He cared about his ego. If you stroked his ego you had a job for life.
It's more the curse of JFK. WCF bought the team the same day JFK was shot.
The interesting thing about Layne & the 50s lions was the timing of detroit. Like Miami of the 80s & portland of the 90s per capita no city was more culturally & economically more significant than detroit. The lions are a microcosm of the city.
Here's a crazy one; Matthew Stafford went to the same High School as Bobby Lane. When they drafted him 1 overall I thought that would be the cure, which in a way he did help break it by asking for the trade that brought us Jared Goff.
At least Detroit has the Pistons & Red Wings who brought titles home. Minnesota has... Twins 1991. That was 33 years ago. That's it!
I’m a packers fan but dang you all have had it ROUGH!
Can you guys have a bad Qb for once?
If the Lions' QB drinks enough ALCOHOL to win championships, then the fans won't have to drink so much to endure a disappointing season. Might want to change the contents of Goff's Gatorade bottle!
I have been a Peyton Manning fan since the first time I saw him play at Tennessee and I love him even more now! Thanks Peyton and Jeff! #VFL #ONEPRIDE #GRIT
The curse ended when Sheila took over the franchise from the floundering Ford family.
God Bless you Peyton Manning ❤
"I never lost a game, I just ran outta time"-Bobby Layne.
Thank you Peyton, Jeff and Gang! 😂
holy shit it worked
I truly believe this worked... The lions are 20-7 since. After they had the tub ritual in the end zone, them lions have gone on a huge run. Thank you Payton.
THE CURSE IS BROKEN
Not until the win a Super Bowl. Calm down we got a long season ahead. One game at a time. Let’s go Lions.
@@polskaman20001No more hiding
OK show me a Super Bowl ring that’s what I thought
Don't forget that Matthew Stafford going to Highland High School just like Bobby Layne. Came to Detroit and was traded out of Detroit just like Bobby Layne. So thank you Matthew Stafford for helping us to break this curse. 😂😢😅
How do you know this was one of Bobby's spots?
Because its a bar in Detroit
lions super bowl this year thanks jeff and peyton
OK it’s time to wake up no more nightmares for you
That’s not a curse, that’s incompetence. 😂
Amen.
Layne was a professional, he knew that if the ownership / management was this dumb...they would never win another championship. He has been right.
Words that finally makes sense
Thanks Payton and Jeff, you deserve a statue at Ford Field.
Speaking of Chuck Knoll, the Steelers were the worse franchise in NFL history before hiring him over 50 years ago. Fortune can change in a heartbeat.
Nice, thank you very much!
As a Vikings fan, if my drunk-ass QB was winning us Super Bowls, he can drink as much as he wants, Game is about to kick off, "would you like a Jack & Coke?"
Thts great
A golden shower to lift a curse? Sounds like Bobby.
1957 championship between the Browns and Lions....Can you imagine that today?
Hey can Peyton also, idk maybe possibly go to Minnesota and end whatever curse is on the Vikings too?? Please?? I been waiting a long time to see a super bowl as well
“What Eli did to Brady?” Yes!!!
thank you
Forrest and Lloyd equals so dark magic shenanigans
Friggin Orshlovsky!!!
if they win a superbowl peyton manning is gonna go live and be like "wheres my thank you
MCDC better send Peyton an honorary ring if the Lions win it all.
Glad they showed Bobby Lane in all his glory. Smokin' and drinkin' his way into the Hall of Fame. When men were Men!
Lions winning the Superbowl Baby!
If youtube would focus less on sensitivity and copyright bs and more on banning bots, they'd have less p0rn on their platform.
There's porn on RUclips ?! 😮
@@thesteviemcnasty Yes there is. Let's report it so it can get deleted.
Love all the Colts footage
What is worse: Going 0-16 like the Browns and Lions, going 0-4 in the Super Bowl like the Bills and Vikings or choking a 28-3 Super Bowl lead like the Falcons?
Cliff Bells is great. Went there for The Bad Plus show. Dinner was incredible.
That curse isn't broken yet.
when you doing cleveland?
All I have to say is thank you manning
Great video. I had never heard of this curse. I think the whole city declined because of this trade. I am from Guam , live in LA, & the Lions are my team.
Laynewas past his prime when the Lions traded him ro Pittsburgh after rhe first game of 1958. The Lions knew this because they made him share the quarterback job with the newly-acquired Tobin Rote in 1957. The Lions received Earl Morral in exchange and Morral played well for the Lions for seven years before being traded to rhe Giants in August, 1965.
It’s kinda crazy that this worked
we're winning it all next year baby
Gotta love the Omaha kids❤❤❤
I mean.. it worked 😂😂😂
We traded Lane exactly how we got Goff! WOW!
Thank you!
22-8 since this happened ✨
Dan O taking about QBs on ESPN like if he wasn’t the worse in Lions history 😂 which has a long list of horrible ones.
they forgot to add all this missed calls we have had over the years
imagine the lions win the superbowl next season
What Eli did to Brady 😆 🤣 😂
🤯🤯🤯
Boss Ross took the run out of Sanders by sticking a FB in front of Barry slowing him down.
I never understood why the Lions didn't throw screens and dump offs to Barry more often.
Most of the time he was wide open on a dump off and the QBs never threw it to him.
You have the greatest open field runner in league history, and don't give him the ball in space...it was maddening to watch.
I’ll believe the curse is over when I see the Lions hoist the Lombardi.
I don’t think you have to worry about that
@@vanpearsall I’m not a Lions fan. I did feel bad they lost the NFC Championship but hey, it’s Detroit.
11:08 words have never been so true
Get the right Coach, General Manager and Players then "The Curse" will go away.
Lions may of won the super bowl if Jeff would of lit the dam thing on fire....
In Chicago where I live we don’t need a curse. We have our ownership for that.
One correction: Traded for Morell, two picks, and a carton of smokes. Bobby Lane would drink enough before the game and before the second half to sober up by the two minute warning. By the way, anybody catch Peyton’s look when Jeff Daniel’s tells him Bobby Lane invented Omaha?
Holy Shit …. It WORKED
It worked.... to some extent.
This is a far better, has much more rewatch potential, and way more wholesome show and representation of a character who I have always loathed and had so little interest in the previous iteration
Let's hope Campbell decides to kick field goals this year.
I can answer that question for ya….*clears throat* nope
i need bro to uncurse the vancouver canucks
It worked!
