I’ve always admired Detroit, I’m from northeast Indiana, closest big city to me is Detroit, and whenever people try to talk Ill of Detroit I always mention how that city, particularly, helped the war effort in WW2 to such a degree that Stalin himself said to FDR “Detroit is winning the war” and how in 1944 a flight ready B-24 came off the production line every hour. There’s a deep history there that deserves to be respected.
Jeff Daniels spoke facts on people’s perception and opinions of Detroit. My wife is a native Detroiter and when we go to dinners or events and she proudly tells folks she is from the 313 their faces twist up. They say some ignorant shit about crime and poverty. She gracefully educates them and lets them know that the city is full of hardworking beautiful souls. 🦁Let’s Go Lions🦁
You’re not wrong. I live in Denver and every time I tell someone where I’m originally from it’s like they want to feel sorry for me…Until I correct them. I do that a lot.
I'm a Clevelander but one of my best buddies lives in a Detroit suburb. I go up there once or twice a year, always a great time. It's a great city, and anyone who goes there and gives it a real shot will see that, imo. Comerica is a beautiful park, Cafe d'Mongo is a gem, Two James is always a good time. Look at the James Beard nominations from this week, Detroit is all over it.
Nobody mentions that Matthew Stafford went to the same high school as Bobby Lane. He was drafted 51 years after the curse. We had to trade Stafford to finally break it.
Met Jeff while filming the Civil War movie, "God's and General's" in Harper's Ferry in 2001. Such a great person! Then years later he let us Civil War re-enactors be in his annual golf outing causing havoc to the golfers as they tee'd off. At the movie premier in Jackson, Michigan, he gave us autographed posters of him along with his signed picture of him in his uniform. A great actor and a wonderful class act human being. Thanks so much Jeff for the wonderful memories! From a Vietnam Era Marine Corps veteran.

I agree with Dan about one thing, Jeff Daniels speech in the newsroom to me is the best TV I've ever seen. It's so well written and so well acted, I go back and watch it once in a while it's so good. Plus Jeff is a really good person who is on the right side of history on many issues. Just an all-around good guy.

Honestly, I think the entire country is rooting for Detroit. I'm a Niners fan, so despite my confidence they'll beat the Lions, I'd be happy for Detroit if they won. And if by chance they do win, I'm definitely rooting for them to win the Superbowl.
I’m proud of our Lions regardless of the next two games. I moved to Texas 8 years ago and wish Detroit won that last game but I guess in a way we did. Go Lions!
89 Michigan win the NCAA tournament and the Pistons win the NBA championship, in 98 Michigan wins the frozen 4 and the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup, and this year Michigan won the championship in football so it's our year
Hey man great work with those! I have been trying to figure out if a college football team, like for example the Wolverines this year, have ever won a Championship in the same season that an NFL team from that same state (Lions) has won a Super Bowl. If you know the answer that would be awesome.
Went to college in Texas but my college roommate was from Detroit. Within ten minutes of meeting the guy tried to fight me. Ended up being the coolest most genuine guy ever. Still my best friend to this day. They’re a different breed for sure 😂
Jeff has more experience than me, but I fully agree. This feels different. I'm a lifetime Oregon Ducks and Detroit Lions fan... and I've watched Oregon build from an 0-0 Toilet Bowl, to a bowl game, to a bowl win, to a Rose Bowl appearance, to a single Pac-10 title, to national prominence, to perennial favorites and national title games. Detroit, it feels similar starting with the 0-16, to 2011 going 11-5 and making the playoffs, and now, not only winning games but winning a PAIR of playoff games, and it feels like more than a scrappy underdog story. It feels like Detroit belongs, and they have this entire season. And it feels like no matter what happens on Sunday, they're going to belong next year. I've never experienced this, even back in the days of Barry and Moore.
I'm just here for Jeff Daniels and the Motown Lions and this is my introduction to this show/podcast and people. What a bizarre, detached, asynchronous and humorless cast of characters this show has assembled.
I am sure that it is implied when they speak about the Lions doing what they do for the city and fans of Detroit also include the fans that are throughout the state of Michigan, and the country for that matter. Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Q: Why is no one, seemingly, talking about newly acquired 3-time Pro Bowler TE Zach Ertz the Lions just signed a one-year contract with? Anyone?? Do you think he's overrated? Do you think he won't play much? He can block, run the ball, complete short to medium length passes, I think he will make a difference this Sunday. G O L I O N S!!!
Worse than the curse of Bobby Lane - The Ford family bought the Lions on November 22nd ,1963.. The day J.F.K. was assassintated in Dallas. Lou Creekmur and Joe Schmidt told me it was the George Wilson who traded him once he was promoted from OC to HC. Wilson used to drink and pal around with Layne, etc. and Wilson thought he would never get any respect from Layne because of it. So he traded him, and Layne said that to more than one person. I worked with the Lions Alumni in a couple of different areas, and I heard that right from the horses mouth-the guys who played with him.

Regarding Stafford, if he’s being honest he’d trade three Rams Super Bowl win for one Lions. That “Jared Goff” chant? That was supposed to be HIS adoration. Nothing like the love of real football fans versus that California fair weather romance.
I think the Lions & 49ers are a pretty even match except for the QB, where Goff has much more experience & skills. All that said the 49ers home field advantage evens it out. I heard just today that the Lions lost like 11 in a row to the 49ers. To me that flips the odds in favor of the Lions, because the odds of anybody beating someone 12 times in a row are not at all good. Somethings gotta give & I think it will this weekend.

hi jeff! originally from a tiny little town called curtis live in battle creek now! fell in love with the lions back in 66 (5yrs old) like you ive seen it all! been ridiculed and insulted for being so stupid to support such a loser..! i even got into a fight with a guy i work with a few years ago as he was wearing a packers shirt showing a packer urinating on a lion who was laying down on the ground!!! well now i have a permanent smile on my face and my prayer to god is almost within reach! (please lord before i leave this earth let me see the lions in a superbowl)!! GO LIONS!!!
