The omega speedmaster in my opinion is one of the best option for a chronograph. It has heritage, class, and reliability.
I picked up mine yesterday, Already in love how it feels and the history and heritage it comes with!
Hard to dismiss the speedmaster.
100%. A Speedmaster is THE watch I want to own one day. It's also IMO still the best looking watch ever made. (shame the prices are starting to get a little wild on them!)
@@NeonMako In house movement being the main cause with the 2021 refresh.
Wish they made a 40mm updated version for smaller wrists. Great watch.
the 3861 sapphire sandwich speedmaster was my first luxury watch purchase. in my opinion it is the quintessential chronograph.
Out of the selection presented, I would go for the Zenith Chrononaster Original. If I stretch the budget, it would be the Breguet Type XXI 3817ST (steel version) that currently retails for US$17,800 but can be had for 30%-40% less from the secondary market. Flyback chronograph with a central chronograph minutes hand - now, that's rare. Plus, it has links to the French government's spec from 1950s known as the iconic Type 20 of which Breguet was one of the major producers.
Thx for mentioning the JLC- I have the black dial version with a brown leather strap. It is elegant and understated. I bought it a month before Christmas and it has not lost a single minute- unbelievably precise. I now understand why Patek watches had JLC movements. I highly recommend the watch and the brand.
Hi ! Philippe patek, Cartier and Many more😉
I have always felt the Tag Heur Monaco was a classic chronograph yet the square seemed a bit too odd for today’s sensibilities, but changed my mind after watching Jacob Elordie wearing it on his Vogue interview on RUclips, I think it really is versatile watch and a head turner!
Speedy and the Sub are the definition of one and done watches. Have both you are set for life. Maybe a Patek as a retirement gift down the line.
lange 1815 chrono ftw
Omega Speedmaster and Zenith El Primero would be my choice
The stand out for me was the Zenith, it really does seem to tick all the boxes for me and that 13mm thickness would make it wear so nice.
The Omega is an icon, but I’d go for the Saphire glass automatic version. The JLC Polaris is my other “list” watch that I’d love. Even though I’m a big fan of blue watches, both of these look better in black on steel bands. Nice video.
I've got the first generation Speedmaster reduced and I love it!
Nice picks!
IMHO the Omega Speedmaster Professional has not only the most prominent history, it also looks unique (love the twisted lugs) and is very very beautiful!
Thanks for the video!
The Speedmaster is the most classic and iconic. I also like the Tudor Panda! The better Breitling in my opinion is the Premier B01 Panda - best Breitling design ever.
Love the Speedy but it's hard to dismiss the Zenith options. They're beautiful, the Chronomaster Sport is amazing.
I have a Speedmaster and absolutely love it. That noted, I keep looking at Zenith for my next watch.
This trip into luxury Chronograph is a pure dream . A each step, i was surprised by the new iconic chronos you can show us. Of course when we pass the 10 K$ the quality increases but i found agood reason to love each of them from 3 K$ to 15 K$ they are all great.
I'm a big fan of Longines. We get good-looking, quality watches with, from everything I've read at least, good value retention while staying at relatively affordable prices.
I'm in Longine also but....
BigEye is not my cup of tea.
All 3 sundials are different size and different style.
Looks like Quasimodo.
I love Longines and that Big Eye is very appealing, especially at that price point and Frederique Constant sure does offer a hard to beat value proposition. That flyback chrono looks very nice. 👌
Great video. It’s unbelievable to me that the hyped watch on this list is the Daytona and not the Zenith Chronomaster Original. The incredible (and at times unbelievable) history of Zenith, this outstanding movement, and heritage driven aesthetics, place this example a cut above the Rolex Daytona. Just goes to show the power of a brand name in distorting perceptions.
I love how the price is leveled between $5,000. I am a collector and I tell so many people that is where you should maintain the price.
Big fan of the Zenith. Just love the look of it. The history and the specs are nice as well but the choice is purely aesthetic for me.
Though interested in astronomy and the moon travels, I did go for the blue Omega Speedmaster moonphase. Date, easier at-a-glance read stop-watch dial, master chronometer, incredible photo-realistic moon phase and 100 m. wr.
I’m proud to say that I own a JLC Polaris Chronograph on a steel bracelet. If you can’t get your hands on a Daytona, the JLC is “THE” watch to get. I’m glad Teddy agrees.
easily the best Chronograph for under $20K (albeit more than $20K on gray market) is the Omega "Ed White" Cal 321 Speedmaster.. literally the only Omega I've lusted after in more than 30 years of collecting watches.
Is Breitling Premier B01 the most overlooked model? It shares the same movement as Tudor, and while the retail is more expensive, you can actually find one cheaper than what Tudor is going for now. Breitling is 1mm thinner, has better finishing and heritage. I'm not sure why Tudor gets all the fuss and Premier doesn't get a mention.
If I see one more Daytona, I'm going to gouge my eyes out. For what a Daytona and a Submariner costs, you could get A. Lange 1815. Best chronograph on the planet. The Tudor has perfect dial symmetry. Zenith has a lineup second to none. They're copying the Daytona. 3 subdials, 2 pushers, a crown and a black bezel. No similarities that a 1,000 other brands posess.
Great choices.
Missing a glashütte chronograph, they are wonderful
The Zenith Chronomaster Sport panda is the most beautiful watch in my collection . Very wearable, possesses a quality movement, and is an absolute value compared to its competition .
Another great video which helped me make a purchase. You don’t realise how amazing the zenith is till you get it on your wrist. It wears really well also. You can’t help but keep glancing at it.
It’s a fabulous watch.
For my personal taste, Zenith Chronomaster Original is the winner by far. That watch is so classy and so underrated, it makes me like it even more.
I completely agree. But I like the black and brown dial most of all.
Navitimer and Speedmaster are the ones that matter to me the most… everything is their homage lol
Great video and picks, Teddy. Would like to add my IWC 41 Chrono IW388102 to the recommendations for those with normal size wrists around 6.5" Great timepiece on easily sized bracelet with micro adjustment. Day/Date, 3 sub dials, inhouse movement 8yr warranty. Case is 41mm, 14.5 thick, 50mm, 20mm lug width , 100 water resistance . Great balance and stunning to wear/stare.
Great video.
The Zenith - the 10th second register is super useful for people like me who watch their daughters competitive swimming!! I’d love that and want it… more convenient than the iPhone even!
On IWC - the Portuguese is lovely, but I’m shocked at how little the Pilot 41mm Chronograph gets mentioned. It’s way tougher than a Speedy and better form factor than the Tudor or Breitling and it has the spectacular green dial option or the deep blue dial that is beautiful.
Yeah, assuming you can trigger the pusher at 10th second ! 👈😅
Im still shocked that people think 1/10th is less useful than a tachymeter. (Former swimmer)
I purchased the tag heuer moncaco steve McQueen edition. That blue just pops and it fits better than expected for its design absolutely beautiful watch . One flaw ..the only one i saw is the case back is open to show the movement but the movement looks so basic. Little effort onthe finishing of the movement
For it's heritage and the technical view I would choose the zenith... those fractions of a second are amazing, and for the way it looks I would like to have the lomgines, what a pretty watch. Nice list Teddy !
Great video. Personally every time I see a chronograph with the sun dials obscuring the arabic numerals, it looks like a design oversight. So many brands solve for this successfully.
Has to be the Speedmaster...in any price bracket. The most iconic chronograph in production
The new speedy pro is fantastic, I got the hesalite and the bracelet is so supple and it wears so well on even smaller wrists, it has also been quartz like accurate
Personal opinion of course, but my two are the Speedmaster the Navitimer. I love flight watches, and these are legends. There is something about them and drives me wild. I love the Zenith as well, but I wore the 38 mm and was a bit underwhelmed, and the price keeps me away from the Sport. I also have questions about the long-term aspect of the 3600 movement.
Also, it's funny. The Daytona was a grail for me for so long. No longer. I just lost interest and the design doesn't really speak to me these days. I think the Zenith looks better honestly. Less dial text. More interesting subdials.
No Grand Seiko?
Speedmaster is the best!
Teddy! Here are Yo Paulie’s Favs for 2022. 1) Moser Streamliner Chronograph, 2) IWC Portuguese Chronograph, and 3) Hamilton Chronograph is always a classic that never goes out of style
Love the Longines in petroleum blue, and the Rolex.
Wow that Frederique Constant is pretty nice!!!! It goes without staying, the Zenith El Primero is the king!!!!
IWC new in house movement Pilot chrono
El Primero is great. It would be perfect without the date complication and without those hideous polished center links on the bracelet (it looks better on a leather strap anyway).
I like the Breitling premier or TopTime over the Navitimer. I own the Breguet Type XX Transatlantique and Hamilton intra- matic, both which a great. I’ll probably have a Speedy professional by next week for the collection. Good list though. Love the Zenith.
If you're talking about a chronograph movement that you can't find easily anywhere, then there is the Zenith caliber 4063. It's a modified version of the 4061 caliber and it's only featured in one series of watches, and only those watches - the Zenith Bullit.
Adding the Tudor and the Speedy in the next months surely! Daytona is definitely the grail, just what it stands for as a racing fan and the prestige it comes with. Prices are insane though...
I saw the Tudor the other day, it is a beauty
If you say 'Chronograph' I think instantly of the Speedmaster Professional and then the Daytona.
A Daytona is not an option for most people but a Speedmaster is attainable and there are plenty out there although I would prefer a 361 movement rather than the modern co-axial
I have a Speedmaster and really like it. Last year I purchased the Sinn 103 Classic 12, it is my favorite watch at the moment. It’s a pretty thick watch but is surprising comfortable to wear. The movement is not in-house but the extra work and registration that Sinn puts into pays off. The construction is terrific.
Today is my birthday and Teddy posts a video with the Speedy in the thumbnail. He knows what's up.
Just got the beautiful CWC Falcon. It's all the tooly chronograph I need. But some day, I'll have a luxury one. Used to own the Speedy... not again though... need a change. But anyone looking for a cheaper cooler tool chronograph- CWC all the way
My top 3
Zenith
Breitling
Omega
I buy watches to wear them on a daily basis. The omega speedmaster professional is an awesome watch but a daily watch has to have a date. So my choice would be the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster.
Finally you included a Tag in one of your lineups. I have three versions of the Monaco. My favorite is of course the Gulf. I have a small wrist and they do wear large but I think the Gulf has to be part of any serious collection simply from a historical perspective.
What is your wrist size?
@@sargeantfrosch1165 6.5
@@lane2063 nice, so pretty much my wrist size. What i am Most worried about is the sickness tbh
@@sargeantfrosch1165 Haha!! Well said. Thankfully I typically buy watches to celebrate significant events so those are happening less often in retirement. I retired in 2020 and finally bought my retirement watch this week. It’s the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. I was blessed to be included in a private event where Gen Tom Holland spoke and signed boxes. This watch has been on my list for years but timing is everything as they say.
I have that blue JLC Polaris chronograph and it is probably my best looking watch. Wonderful chrono action too.
I was trying to guess which watch you were going to go with when you mentioned Heuer... and really could've been any of the Autavia, Carerra or Monaco lines. I think you made the right choice.
I'm in the market trying to buy a simple watch, nice gentleman peice under $1000, then I met this guy. Now I'm confused don't know what to buy. Dude selection Is large.
Got the speedy last year. Stunning watch 😍 I have my 👀 on the BBGMT and the Zenith chronomaster sport as future options. The Daytona is out of reach… for now.
hi Teddy, loved the video. you should do a similar for 2022 luxury dress watch options.
El primero look of the movement is stunning
Am I the only person actually like older Rolexes and older Panerais? I’m in the market in a month or so to get another watch, IWC, Rolex, Pam, or maybe a Tudor are my choices. I would like an older Panerai in Ti (already have a 06’ PAM 000 and a Pam 312. the PAM 000 is a tank, daily wear in my kitchen work and never skip a beat!). Rolex I like to get a non sport model, maybe a SS Datejust with jubilee braclet. Budget is about 10k depending on what I come across
Amazed how you keep coming up with 'fresh angles' on watches. ; ) Great vid.
One question viewers: as ETA is owned by the Swatch group, along with Omega, Longines, Hamilton, Swatch and others, could you not say that all Longines, Omega and so on movements are manufacture movements as the parent company that makes the watch also makes the movement??
I like that JLC Polaris
The Tudor missed the mark when they excluded the small round looms at 9 and 3 o’clock. Such a shame.
Navitimer is king, but I just picked up a Breitling Premier B09… and it is just classy. Love it.
I Loooove the 2160 4K resolution!
Great, great, great .-.
Zenith is my dream watch
Currently own a Zenith CMSport and can't wait to own a 3861 sapphire sandwich! Two very different watches that can easily fit in any watch collection!
Great Video. For me The New Speedmaster Moonwatch and the Monaco Calbrie 11 blue dail 1969 is the Monaco for me going to add both to my Patek Philippe Nautilus & Rolex Submariner
At time 2:41 is a Longings big eye 3400.00 and they give it a cheap looking band . How about an croc or alligator band ?
I know I am repeating myself, thank you for educating me.
I’m a JLC fanboy so I have to go with the Polaris, although anything with the Breitling B01 movement is a great choice. Another brand that might be worth mentioning in Hanhart, they have a chronograph fly back I believe.
JLC master calendar chronograph for me. Unless I get a big disocunt on a Vacheron.
Omega has the one to get since I have it 👍
The zenith for me all the way. Love that thing.
Missed the Breguet Type XX.
I think it's a very important watch when it comes to luxury chronographs and it most definitely has a history only a few other chronos can match.
For me the Navitimer stands out head and shoulders above all the others.
Thank you for great review, its great to see the wearability factor is highlighted some of the watches good to look hard to wear because of thickness or sharp edges.
For myself, Speedmaster.
Damn no love for the pistachio Breitling?
My favorite chronograph from last year is the Duograph from Breitling.
Just purchased a Zenith chronograph
Among all the watches I have ever seen coming from a guy that doesn't have a shit ton of money, the Omega Speedmaster in moonshine gold with a leather strap is such incredible value for money right now, especially compared to what you get for the same price in Rolex. I know the stainless steel is there, but I only live once - do I want an ordinary steel moonwatch. To experience and own such an exquisite masterpiece, I might actually save up and buy this in a year or so to celebrate and just get the gold piece, what a dream watch. In my opinion the new gold Speedmasters are the most gorgeous watches I have ever seen, especially for my 6.5" wrist.
If I want a watch that will probably slip under the radar and wear every day I would take the Omega over any Rolex, if I was spending ~25K$ I see absolutely nothing that even comes close to me.
Love my Speedy and can’t wait for you to review the Omega x Swatch Speedmaster colab!!
I feel like many of the chronograph pushers stick out to much and it doesn't look good. I think the omega speedmaster is great in this regard. Very attractive.
Sold my speedy to get my Hulk back in 2011, but think the Omega Pro is the best buy here.
If you looking for unique and historical chronograph watch try to check " breitling transocean 1915", if you looking for best chronograph 2022 watch with secand splatter checkout "breitling premier chronograph secand splatter"
Speedy every day but I would also suggest the IWC LePetit Prince blue Chrono.
If that Zenith had a better executed date window (or none at all), it would be unbeatable.
Can't say I take to any of these very much, but that's probably because I have gaps to fill in my collect where less-busy watches are concerned... but if I had to pick one, Portuguiser hands down.
Teddy you gotta do a tier list video!
I love the Omega Speedmaster. It’s probably THE most iconic watch ever made but the vivid colors on the Zenith Chronomaster Original and the incredible movement inside makes it the chronograph to own.
Hey Teddy! I think it would be really cool for you to do a video (maybe with Kevin!) about Kurono. You mentioned wanting to dive into them in a previous video, and I think they also have a pretty cool chronograph!
very well put together...agree with all the selections, big Zenith fan too
Awesome vid.
Been waiting for this. Great to see a Tag on the list!
I like bigger watches honestly I have a omega seamaster professional cornergraph 300 m and I love it
I also like the Tissot PRX Chrono👍
Hey Teddy, have you checked out the Vario 1918 Trench Watch before? Been eyeing it for a while, would love your thoughts on it, since it has an interesting historical connection.
I’ll take a closer look 👍🏻
@@TeddyBaldassarre appreciate the reply my man 👏👏👏
Top 5 for me: Speedmaster Professional, Tag Hauer Carrera, Breitling Navitimer and Zenith El Primero. You can get all these for the price of an overpriced Daytona...
