    Gene, YOU THE MAN! Thanks so much for this video. I ordered a key shell from someone because it broke like so many do, only to find out there was more to it. Went to the dealer and he wanted to replace it all anyway for $145 or so. But with your help, I was able to get the chip out of the old one and put in the new shell. Voila! Save over $100 thanks to you. Keep up the good work!

    Your video is super helpful and helped me take apart and reassemble in new plastic housing. Had my key cut and all works well. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

      Thank You so much for showing us and sharing this informational video with us all. I wish that I would of seen this last week went to the Honda dealership and spent $50.87 on a brand new key. However I kept my old key which still has the old front on it, the chip and the metal portion of the key. I'll just put my old key together so I'll have an extra starting key

    Thanks for your explanation on how to remove the immobilizer chip. I had no idea that it was glued.

    The retainer is for use during key production (before the factory adds the remote and back). A small amount of putty or adhesive holds it fine while you are working on the key. The back of the key is really the retainer.

    I used to. The swing out style keys that I have dealt with were very low quality and hard to work with. I know customers like them, so I sold them and just put up with the hassle. When keys started coming back from customers with failures in the mechanical mechanism, I stopped selling them.

    The 2003 and newer Accord key has an immobilizer that has to be programmed to the car by a technician. I can repair broken keys, but not make a functioning key from scratch. If your dealer is only charging $105 for a key that is cut and programmed, it sounds like a great deal!

    You'll still have to go to a locksmith to actually cut the new blanks. My Lowe's doesn't cut that kind of key.

    I believe you forgot to put the imobolizer key plastic retainer back on. .

    The backs between OEM Honda, aftermarket, even between models of Honda do not match. You have to have the proper back for the front. If the metal base is moving, you need a whole housing, or you will soon. If you have an OEM Honda key and just the back is broken, see your dealer for the exact application.

    I bought a new case that came with a blank key. Does the blank key come out so I can put my old key in place? Thanks

  • @FixMyKey

    Your immobilizer chip is inside the remote housing.

    I hear a lot of these blanks are low quality and for one reason or other dealers or lock smiths won't cut them. Not sure if it's because they are thicker or the metal is soft but they say they ruin there cutting machines. Have you heard that complaint from any of your customers? I really want to find an oem blank but not sure where to find one?

    • @FixMyKey
      @FixMyKey  9 лет назад +1

      nuts 4 knives I had to quit using aftermarket blanks several years ago due to the drop in quality. The metal is the wrong density and they are not true (straight). The key cutting procedure is very precise and it doesn't allow for a blank out of specifications. That is why my prices have gone up since these videos were made. My prices are still far below most dealers price of a new key with programming.

    Where can i buy plastic housing? Just at Honda?
    and
    Does Honda still sell the older ones, with a small place for the immobilizer chip?

    What happens if I lost my immobilized chip on a 2011 Honda Pilot while changing the battery??

    Hi Gene, I only need the back case replaced (the buttons and the actual metal key work fine on my honda, but the back case is cracked where the screw holds it in, so it's loose). I just want to be able to screw in the new case and have it not be loose anymore.
    My question: My key has an immobilizer chip, but when I shop for new key housings, sometimes they don't specify. Are the back cases for the housings with and without the immobilizer chip the same exact size? Are they interchangeable?

  • @siincerelyurs

    Can I just take out my metal key and change the housing ONLY??

  • @FixMyKey
    @FixMyKey  11 лет назад

    You have to get a new housing and have it cut to match your car. You can not move your old blade to a new housing. FixMyKey.com

    Dang it. How do I replace the screw in the back of the Honda accord 2010 4-button key? The stupid thing wouldn't stay put. I guess it's fate was bigger than me. I hope the screw found ultimate happiness, however I was left with a hole where the screw used to be and my key regularly falls apart. What type of screw should I get? Please thanks.

    I have a 2009 Honda Accord with a crack in the black plastic shell that makes the key wobbly/very flexible. Everything works though. I would like to just replace the black plastic shell housing and move my existing key into a new housing if I can? The key is a 4 button key (3 black buttons and a red Panic button) inside component. Can I just purchase the black shell and move the inside component buttons and the metal key into the new shell? Thanks
