Because it makes no sense to go on and on about “hello, I’m going to teach you how to change the battery…” like obviously we searched and clicked on the video. We know.

Thanks so much for posting this Ken! It showed exactly everything I needed to know, including which way the battery faces since I forgot to notice when I took it out. Just finished replacing both CR1616 key batteries for my 2006 Accord (the originals lasted 12 years!). One lasted about 1 1/2 months more than the other. Home Depot had them for $4. each, $2 each less than AutoZone! So nice not having to insert the key for a couple of weeks until I could shop. Just happened to have the correct Phillips head screwdriver and it was magnetized which was great since it's so easy to drop the screw (always open it in a place (not outside) where if you drop the screw you can easily retrieve it!).
This video was so helpful. I was kind of scared to do this without cracking the case. After watching this it was super easy ! I know this is a really vintage video lol but wanted you to know you continue to be appreciated years after the original post.
Two comments! 1) Well Done & 2) Done Well I thought it was simple and your vid was focused on the key very well making it possible to see exactly what you were doing. Thank you, BK
I have a 2007 Honda and the batteries needed to be replaced in both keys. One had tape holding it together because I broke the plastic trying to open it. The other key needed a new battery and I found your video. So this key doesn’t have tape on it thanks to your video. And my wife is happy.
SonnyGTA Very interesting!!......it’s fascinating to see how planets arrange their dollar signs differently from each other. Thanks for the interesting facts👍👍
@@SonnyGTA :-) In our world we place SEK after the number like 59 SEK :-) makes more sense too as you dont say "it costs dollar 59" or "it costs swedish crown 59". But on the other hand some countries have still not switched to the logical metric system either so, it makes sense that nothing makes sense in those parts of the world :-) But good to know, should anyone ever not understand :)
Thank you. Enjoyed your video. I read most of the tips. Of course the small screw never did budge. Since, I am way too impatient. I ended up busting the case open with a couple of screwdrivers. I had to use a vise to snap it back together. Miracle of miracles, it works and the key is not too badly mangled. As we say in Spanish "mal hecho pero hecho." Which means "badly done but done!"
Thank you for this video. I found an eyeglass kit with a mini screwdriver in it at the dollar store and it worked perfectly along with your instructions! Very helpful video! Thank you again!
Well thanks for this. I had to go to four different places to find the CR1616 batteries and got a $7 Husky precision screwdriver set from Home Depot just for this task. I couldn't for the life of me get the screw out, and that was with a heat gun and WD-40. The thing was screwed in with the force of eleventy billion newtons powered by a quasar. Good to see that Radio Shack is still around, despite closing a bunch of stores. They had the batteries I needed! Home Depot had a peg item with no stock, Lowe's didn't have the peg item, nothing at CVS (except some delicious Jolly Ranchers). Thankfully, I told the CVS cashier of my plight and she clued me in on the Radio Shack a few doors down. Small talk pays off sometimes! So, I read the comments and was able to replicate the 'pry-off' technique with the larger flat screwdriver and anchored by a smaller one. Then, I could shake the innards loose. Oh, and I managed to stab myself in the left hand. Not fun, but I got 'er done! Girlfriend will finally be able to get in and out of her vehicle with the remote, as well as set/disable the alarm. Thanks for the vid! Who the heck is disliking this, Honda?
I think that you may have exaggerated on the eleventy billion newtons, but I'm not a scientist so I can't really be certain [LOL!]. Home Depot saved me $2 over AutoZone (but nice to know they both stocked it, as Walmart did not.
Thanks for the tip @ 3:15 about which way to pull down to detach the two halfs where the plastic lip attaches. Very helpful!! I left my screw attached and pried it open... but knowing which way to tug really helped!
Thank you for this video! Saved me $80 from the dealer! The little screw was hard to come off like much of the comments. Had to use WD-40 and a small screwdriver I normally use for eye glass lenses. Either way this was great.
WD-40 does nothing to help remove the screw. It’s not a rust inhibitor, nor does it break it down. It’s not a lubricant. How often you spray the door hinges? Once a week, a month maybe? Try some white lithium, or silicone grease. It’ll be years.
Thanks for posting this. I didn't have a hairdryer to heat the key as others suggested, so I touched the screw with the tip of a soldering iron, and as soon as the key became hot to the touch the screw came right out. Of course this requires extreme caution so as not to melt the plastic. Nice post!
Great video!! Glad you had the battery number on the heading! Found the battery at Walgreens. The screw had lock tight on it and was very hard to get off. I ended up placing the key face down on a towel, then with a small hammer I gently tapped a small screwdriver into the screw which allowed me to get a better bite on the screw. Press down hard on the screw while turning it and I was able to get it off. Other than that the replacement was quick. Key remote is back in business again!! Thanks!!!
Thanks Buddy, my key fob for a 2008 Civic died and the back up never worked in the first place. Bought two batteries, followed your instructions and it turned out surprisingly easy. An that from a guy who is a danger to himself and anyone nearby when seen with a tool in his hand. Thanks again.
Thank for the video. I was able to successfully change my battery this morning after watching your video. By the way, I had the same small piece of plastic come out of my key, don't know where it came from. It did not effect the outcome.
I also had a little plastic piece pop off, but I DID see where mine came from. It was one of the little rectangle tenons. Between the clip and the screw, everything seems secure without it. Just putting this here for anyone else who comes across this so that they don't panic.
Thank you so much. The metal key fell out and I needed to know how to get it back in. Woahhhhh. U saved me. Thank you!!!!!!!!! I know I’ll eventually need to get another really soon tho but this saved me!!! I wish I could bake you a pan of scratch made cinnamon rolls. If ur ever in SC let me know.
I'm so paranoid about breaking a tiny clip or something that I literally watch this video every single time I change my battery :-). Thanks for posting.
Thanks for this video! I just followed it and got my key working again. A funny detail. You noticed a tiny piece of plastic that had broken off somehow even though you opened it very carefully. I too noticed the exact same small piece of plastic even though I was very careful and gentle opening it up. You seem to be right about it not being anything to worry about. The key is working just fine now.
This was awesome I was able to do it myself I bought the batteries from the link to Amazon and I went to dollar tree for screwdriver. I appreciate you so much thanks
Despite the flac (admittedly me too) because of video duration you still saved me from demolishing my case while trying to open it. From one dummy to a youtuber, thank you and safe tidings.
Thanks. The screwdriver blade type is a Phillips. My Honda Civic 4-door 2014 is slightly different. (cv1020 battery) Your instructions helped me a lot. I was able to use a small eyeglass screwdriver. It has been several years that I wanted to do this.
Thank you very much for the great video. You saved me from breaking the shell of the key. I could not figure how it came apart. I removed the screw but could not separate it. Thanks again, Barry
Glad I read through the comments! I stripped the screw but was able to pry the fob apart and take the pack out and replace the battery. Easy but wish I'd seen the hairdryer method first.
Thank you so much for this info....Did it very easily, and was planning to go to the Honda dealership to change these batteries. You've probably saved me at least $50...:)
My key fob battery needed replacement (Accord 2006). The tiny screw had corroded and I was unable to remove it. Dealer said my entire key had to be replaced for $125. I used a rotary tool with a mini grinder tip to remove this screw. Use a grinder bit that is approximately the same size as the screw shaft. It will take about one minute. Do not force it, let the weight of the rotary tool do it. You basically grind through the head of the screw. Carefully open the fob, replace battery, reassemble and snap the fob closed. I did not replace the screw because the fob snaps shut and I have not have a problem with it opening. A rotary tool is a great thing. You will use it again and again. The mini grinder tip was part of a set from good ole Harbor Freight that was about $7. If I can do this (62 year old woman), you can too.
Had same issue w/ the screw going bad. Glad I had a spare key stuck in a drawer, and the battery just needed change. After replacing the battery, just like you , I left the screw out.
I couldn't get the screw off either. My dealer service guy told me that the screw was secured using blue loctite and heating it up would soften it and he did it for me even with my damaged screw head--saved me a lot of money. I just had to replace a dinged up screw that I damaged. You might want to remove the loctite that the new screw comes with. Try heating the metal key shaft on the stove carefully before anything more radical. Home Depot sells the batteries in store for a very good price. I have an honest dealer!
Thanks for posting this video clip. This is the only clip that correctly shows how to open up the plastic housing by liftting it up and at the same time pulling it toward metal-key side. It worked for my Civic 2006. Thanks You So Much!
Thanks for the detailed video! I was able to change mine fairly quickly once I got the little screw out. I had to use some WD-40 on it to get it to come out, but it finally did.

Thanks for the comment about using the hairdryer to heat the key - worked like a charm! This video is 5 minutes longer than it needs to be but otherwise is great instructions. I used an eye glass repair tool to take the screw out.
Thank you for share you knowledge. It saved me from breaking my key cover if I didn’t watch your video. It needs to slide back key cover toward the key, not to elevate the key cover up-ward if do so will break the cover hook, and then cover will be used less.
Works for Honda Pilot 2014 too. Although I knew how to replace the battery, I wanted to be double sure because they the key costs $$$ to replace. The trick is slide out from the hinge so be careful not to pry it open in frustration and have it break. Thanks for the "double check" :) P.S The only dislikes are from car dealers who won't be able to charge you a ridiculous amount for something that costs $1.
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. Those little plastic pieces came out for me too. I was worried a bit, although they didn't seem too significant.
Thank you so much, I have replaced the battery earlier however i have made a mistake in putting the battery reverse and thinking of taking to honda dealer, after watching this video and replacing the battery correctly the key started working.
I just got two of these batteries from amazon--and one was dead on arrival. I took my fob apart like 10 times, finally figured, what the heck I'd try the other battery--and then it worked. One tidbit all the vids leave out: you should confirm that the red light works before putting the fob together. I was unaware of that, and I kept assembling my fob even though the red light wasn't coming on.
The video is great. I had difficulty in removing the screw. I used a little oil & soaked it to loosen. Could unscrew with some difficulty. But after that the process was smooth. Thanks for the video.

Used a little alcohol to clean the inside. Oh man it was dirty. If you have trouble finding the CR1616 battery try your local watch repair shops. They usually have them.
Alex I would recommend only cleaning the inside with water. A damp cotton swab will do it.
Alcohol may damage the plastic.
I found them at AutoZone, but Home Depot was $2 cheaper. Walmart didn't have CR1616.
Very good thanksss

I was unaware of that, and I kept assembling my fob even though the red light wasn't coming on.
Saved $20 bucks keep it up! Thanks
Thank you for this presentation. I like your expalanation. It is well detailed. Very good.
Came here for the one trick to open after screw off without breaking it. Pull down... check... thank you so much.

I just bought a replacement battery and screwdriver set on amazon thank you!!
The video is great. I had difficulty in removing the screw. I used a little oil & soaked it to loosen. Could unscrew with some difficulty.
But after that the process was smooth. Thanks for the video.
+Ranganathan Krishnan What kind of oil did you use? I can't even budge the screw and it seems pretty much stripped at this point. Thx.
Thank you this post it was very helpful and easy to understand. It totally worked for our Honda Accord 2011.
Thank you! A pack of batteries and an eye glass repair kit from a dollar store and this video. 5 bucks.
Thank you for this post; you made changing the battery easy and foolproof!
