Surprised you didn’t have to pull the motor and transmission too to change a lightbulb.
I'm going to have to do this on my better half's 2011 Accord. Thanks Honda for making what should be a simple, basic maintenance and safety item replacement way more complicated than it needs to be.
Look in owners manual on the lights section, it tells you how to replace the bulbs without the need of taking the bumper and headlight off, it’s easy and takes less than 15 min.
Nice tutorial. The only thing I'd add is to check that the lights work right after you've reconnected them, and not after you've spent 20 minutes putting everything back together.
Agree that the engineering is way more complicated than it need be BUT you show exactly how to tackle the job.
Great, efficient, instructional video. Thanks!
What were they smoking when they designed this?
🤣😫😩
Maybe the problem is they was sober lol. I thought when I first had to replace the low-beam bulb the instructions said Start by turning the vehicle on, then driving to the nearest dealership, proceed to trade the vehicle in
It isn't too bad, expect to break the rubber fasteners.
I would like to know the same my goodness
The finest Japanese pot
I just bought a 2009 Honda Accord EX and realize the headlights haven’t been changed since factory, and now to change them is one heck of a process 🥲💀
I’m doing a 2008 EX-L right now, and I don’t think any of this has ever been touched lmao. Almost every single clip either wouldn’t work properly or broke.
JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO A SINGLE BIT OF THIS.
1. Turn your wheel all the way to the outside, depending on which light you're servicing.
2. Use a putty knife or flat head to pop out the plastic pins holding the plastic underside of the wheel well
3. Inside the now open wheel well, there are inserts for the head light, brights AND blinkers, they can all be removed, replaced AND reimserted from the bottom of the car.
The pins aren't even necessary to keep the plastic in the wheel well in place, but are helpful in making sure. This takes no more than 15 minutes, but this video is according to Honda's handbook and exactly why it's listed as a 2.5 hour job in the manual. They'd charge you $250-$315 for this, but it takes $15 bucks for the headlight and 15 minutes of time! Learn to work on your car, it'll save you thousands and it's fun!
Finally someone realized how to do it the right way… I nearly fell for this video until I was flipping through the owners manual to see if it tells you
Thank you
Ty
Bro if it takes you 2.5 hours to do it like it’s done in this video you don’t need to be touching anything on a car this method takes 30 minutes tops lol and that’s if you take your time with it
Do you have a video or resource showing how to go about that method? Thanks!
Everyone commenting about too much work for just a bulb replacement. It would be, but this is a video on how to replace the headlight assembly
Honda dropped the ball on this design for a headlight.
You're definitely wrong on that one. Ford copied the design for that honda wannabe Taurus
@@TheCarterEffect Doesn’t mean Honda did something right. Just means that Ford copied a bad idea. Look at all these steps just to replace a headlight. Honda even acknowledged it in the 2013 and above models, making it significantly more simple.
All this for a headlight
Bro the 06 dodge stratus just like this so honda copied
Under an hours worth of work for clean lights. Not that big a deal. Try getting lights off a W203 Benz
Total crap so much goes into changing a lights. They make things so freaking difficult
Sara Alvarez
Right
I used to have a mustang and all you had todo it remove some long metal clips from the top of the light assembly and that was it, you didn’t have to remove anything else
For looks of the vehicle aerodynamics and safety as well as future service profits for dealers and shops
This is actually pretty simple for the average mechanically inclined person versus paying someone else to do it for you...
They expect most people to keep the headlight forever and just change the bulbs. Sucks for those of us who like to mod cars tho.
@@garycooper7345 it’s not that complicated but you shouldn’t have to take the bumpers off to change the stupid headlight.
Started by showing how to open the hood. This is thoroughness. Great work!
This was a very, very helpful video! Completed the project this afternoon. Thank you so much for posting.
Insane about of work just to change the headlights!
+Tony Featherstone Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Look in owners manual on the lights section, it tells you how to replace the bulbs without the need of taking the bumper and headlight off, it’s easy and takes less than 15 min. Don’t listen to this video. Also use wd40 if the lights are hard to twist off.
Followed the video when replacing headlights in our 2008 Accord. The job went exactly as shown and taking my time took under 3hrs to do. Had to replace a few broken clips but that was no big deal. Thanks for the tutorial.
Great help! I would echo what previous comments mentioned about having plenty of replacement clips readily available. I broke 90%. Luckily I had plenty on hand. Thanks for this video. Super helpful. 30-45 min job. Took 5-8yrs off the look of my car.

where did you buy the replacement clips from?
Remember when headlights where held in with four screws
And you'd have 2 choices at the auto parts store. A round or square headlight.
On my Gmc it's like 2 Allen key type things holding them and that's pretty much it lol they just slide out with no tools needed. And you can replace bulbs without taking them out anyways.
Great Video. My Honda lights are so bad but my fear of removing the bumper was too much for me to replace them. Now I see that it's a relatively easy job and I am anxious to get her done. God Bless!
Just bought bulbs, thought I'd take 10 minutes to put them after work in but nooooo. Its a saturday project. Thanks for this video!
Great video. But, like everyone else on this thread, I cannot fathom the idiocy at Honda to design headlight assemblies that require front bumper disassembly just to replace headlight bulbs. Our Camry is easy. I think that this might be my last Honda purchase.
So stupid!
This is probably way to late but just for future projects you can access the low beam and high beam bulbs threw the wheel well. The only think you have to remove is the fender liner and take the wheel off gives you more room but is not necessary👍
This was a simple front-end. The 2009 6cyl sedan has extra lights (fog/running) attached to the front fairing, and the attachment points are different. Great video, though! Helped a lot!
[yes, I know this is a late comment]
I have just ordered my wife's Honda Headlights thru 1A Auto Parts. Looking to install this Friday. Hopefully i can adjust the lights to the correct setting.. Nice Video btw i will be using it while doing the job. lol

This video was great , I didn't jack up the car and didn't have any trouble getting underneath. Took about 1:30.
Annnd I just ordered a pair from your website. Thank you for making it easy! Wish me luck on delivery day. I'm with the other folks who have commented how much they despise this poor design and can't stand how many steps go into the remedy. I'm still waiting for the end of the crappy plastic and the return to the glass housing.

Owners manual tells u an easier way of doing this without removing bumper and headlight
Thank you for your efforts and time for the valuable video and explaining it to avoid mistakes and how to do it right
From the Arabian Gulf, I welcome you
My headlights look worse than this, finally got some new ones. Literally imagine driving with no headlights. It was a pain.
Great videos 1A AUTO thanks for all your help
+Coinhawk Seahawk Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
I now hate Honda’s along with most throw away cars these days.
Disassemble the entire plastic front of car that will never go back together perfectly all to put headlamp bulbs in.
Just did this repair and I would like to add that the headlights come out incredibly easier if you remove the bracket from the headlight prior to removing the light itself.
+Thomas Savidge Thanks for the feedback!
Or remove the plastic cover over the actual bumper, it’s 2 bolts and 3 or 4 clips.
Great video! Did mine in 1.5 hrs

Thanks for sharing this with us. Very detailed
Could honda make it any more of a pain in the ass

At least you don't have to pull the engine to change a headlight. Geesh, I miss the day when it was a simple process to change a headlight. Decent little cars though. I've had my 2011 for about a month. Great tutorial. Thanks

Coolness. Thanks for the video. Just bought new lights for my 2012. Typical of Honda to make you take the whole bumper off.
Well your wrong, Look in owners manual on the lights section, it tells you how to replace the bulbs without the need of taking the bumper and headlight off, it’s easy and takes less than 15 min.
Thank you for sharing this fine information. I am hereby a sub'r!
EZXCELLENT VIDEO... great instructions.. will be my first big project on my car!! seems straightforward enough. any opinions on putting silicone all around?
How it go
Great video they need to get you an electric impact thou save you some time!
Very helpfull thank you
Step 1). Remove the doors
Step 2). Remove windshield
Step 3). Remove seats
Step 4). Remove engine
Step 5). Remove bumpers
Step 6). Simply unbolt the headlights to remove.
Simple! 🙄
Excellent!!
Wow i thought the 94 accord headlights were a pain in the ass to replace this is some serious level smooth brain design
Through the wheel well and under the hood is how you replace the low and high beams, owners manual tells you an easier alternative
Great video, but one suggestion. Around the 5 minute mark in the video, you'll see you have to work the lens a bit to get it off and then the same thing when you reinstall. Take 2 minutes and remove the black plastic piece the runs the length of the front bumper. It's two bolts, same size as the ones for the lens, and a few clips that you depress with a flat screw driver. Having it out of the way makes things much easier for very little effort.
I just did this today. It was definitely challenging. I wish I had a lift too.
Would’ve been easier if you checked the owners manual. There’s an easy way of doing this without taking bumper and headlight off
Yeah, gonna have to do this pretty soon, not looking forward to it at all. I realize that swapping a headlight assembly isn't standard maintenance, but geez, you would have thought that Honda would have made it a reasonable procedure. I have never seen anything like this before, and I have never had to remove an entire bumper to get at one in my life. It is what it is, gotta be done.
thanks for this.
My sons car is a 2008 honda accord coupe 2 door. would this vid be the same install? I need to check out your site or amazon if yall sell there too.
+Mike From Texas It may be a different procedure on your application. We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com
How long did it take you in total to complete the replacement?
Great video. I also need the bumper bracket that hold the headlight assembly but I am having a hard locating it online. It looks like it is not available from A1 Auto. Any guidance?
+Ronnie Johnson Thanks for checking us out! You may be able to find these at a local parts store or see if a local body shop will have the ability to get these for you. 1AAuto.com
You casually mention the need to adjust the new headlight, please explain in more detail, because obviously with this complicated of a replacement, there's no adjusting the headlight once installed right?
Before removing your headlights, park on flat ground 25 feet from a wall. Mark the wall where the hot spots of the beams hit with tape. After installing the new assemblies but before putting the bumper back on, park the car in the same spot and repeat removing and adjusting the aim until it's the same as before. Then finish up.
Or, be a repair shop and use your mechanical aiming kit.
You can adjust the beam with a screwdriver, no need to remove anything. There’s a hole right on top of the bolt that has teeth like spikes that you can insert and rotate with screwdriver
Bro had so much confidence just ratcheting that bolt back In immediately without hand threading it in a little first
Perfect 👌
+I G Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Can you replace with led complete housing? Will it mess up the electrical?
Nice informative video, but I would have pressure washed the front end of that car before putting it all back together.
+PaganWizard Thanks for watching! That would certainly be a good opportunity to give it a good cleaning, just be careful of any wiring and electrical connectors. You will want to cover them up before spraying! 1aauto.com
Very good
Can you change all of the bulbs for a extra bright look? If so whats a good brand and model for those?
Under $35.00 for pair: Sealtight 9006/hb4 LED... thru Amazon... super bright. 6 months and still working. Just plug and play... the ones I replaced were the low beams. The others I left alone for now.
I have a 2011 Honda accord sedan and my ABS and Traction control lights is on. Do you have any idea what it could be
Is your wheel hub on sometime they can wear out the sensor
You may have an extra 5-8 clips to remove from the bottom of the bumper connecting to the skid plate (if optioned).
I found this out the hard way when I went to pull the bumper and broke those clips out
Do you know the sizes for the clips ? I need to order some,
Hello great video, may I ask what brand are the new headlights assemblies, those are very nice I will like to order that same brand, thank you!!

4:06 there are 2 10mm bolts below. Anyway, thanks so much for this easy to follow, step by step!
Thankyou
I think I’ll just restore mine 😩
where can i find replacement bumper clips incase they break when i change them?
The safer bet is a honda dealer.
If you open the plastic fender you can reach up in there and get to the bulb, not easy but easier than taking all that apart , gezz I dont think so , 2010 honda accord,
This is for replacing the entire headlight assembly when the plastic gets old and yellowed, not only replacing a bulb. This company sells them. This is also a safety issue. When the lens is hazy the bulbs won't project as well onto the road and your vision will be compromised at night... Another reason to replace the entire headlight assemblies is if they get broken or damaged.
The fact that you can't simply replace the plastic covers is evidence that manufacturers are trying to make it more and more difficult for people to easily and inexpensively maintain and repair their vehicles.
Are the quality of the halogen bulbs included with the headlights on par with name brand bulbs? Everything looks to be good quality from what I can see. I have your page bookmarked.... Thank you
+TDM1975 These lights do not include bulbs. If you happen to receive a product with bulbs, the bulbs are for testing and not covered under our warranty. Our warranty applies to the light assembly only. Thanks for checking us out!
+TDM1975 happy to help, take care!
Do you know if it's the same procedure for the coupe?
Is there an easier procedure just to replace bulbs and not housing?
Thank you.
I was going to attempt this myself, but now I know there isn't enough gin in the world to persuade me to.
I’m ready to change out my headlights & want to replace my bulbs too. I know it’s the high beam and low beam and turn signal but what’s the other one?
Is this is the same process for the v6 model?
+Israel Cortez The installation process should be very similar for your vehicle.
For at least 50 to 60 years a fundamental light bulb change was a quick and easy 5 minute job...i mean what is this bollox...dismantle the entire front end of a car to change a bulb...we are living in the era of insanity.
Look in owners manual on the lights section, it tells you how to replace the bulbs without the need of taking the bumper and headlight off, it’s easy and takes less than 15 min. Don’t listen to this video. Also use wd40 if the lights are hard to twist off.
Wow easily done home in just about 3 hours 😅
But he replaced the whole lens assembly. You aint gettin THAT out an back in thru the little flap under the wheell
How long the 1 a auto headlights will last before the clear coat starts peeling I hope they better quality than amazons and eBay’s headlights on sale because they start peeling about 6 months.
Anyone have a part number for that long plastic bracket that gets removed with the headlight? Repairing deer damaged light and when I pulled the light the bracket was in three pieces. Googled it every way I can think of and different brackets come up.
They do not do it that way at Honda dealers. They do it from the wheel well. 😆
What tools do you need for the job?
How do you know if you need to adjust the aim, 6:27, before putting it back on the car?
Wow just for a bulb replacement INSANE. Take the whole damm front bumper off for one Light
Literally everyone in the comment section : waahwaahwaah this is so hard.
Think you guys are in the wrong section of RUclips 😂. Don’t kid yourself your not gonna do this. Make me out a check and go get a manicure 😂
Does 1A auto sell replacement push pins if needed
Look in the owners manual, it tells you how to change the bulbs without the need of removing the bumper and headlight. Flip to the lights section do not listen to this video
Changing iPhone 20 screen is easier
I need to change out the passanger's side one but it looks like it's way to much work and I don't even have the tools to do so, it might be expensive to get it done but just might be what I'll do instead.
All these people thinking you have to do this just to replace the bulbs, this is showing how to replace the headlight assembly’s
thanks, but that headlight don't need replacement but just a polish and it would be like new again
Would it be the same process for a 2005
Emil Lucas hey they’re a different shape/generation . So my guess is that it would be a very similar process. But definitely not exactly the same steps. Im sure you could find a video on it though
No, it is very similar on the 2005 Accord, but not identical (I've already done the 2005.)
Anyone know if they sell just the plastic lens cover?
Seems u have to get an entire headlight assembly for when they get cloudy.
Seems crazy that just the lens can't be replaced
+@Bubbles99718 At this time we are selling the complete assembly.
