      I had the same problem with my 2012 Accord. Had a leak somewhere and it was dripping down. Causing the alternator to fail. What I do now is Keep a close eye on any leaks When I get the oil changed. I've also replaced all the wheel bearings on my car. It now has 250,000 miles. As the temperature rises, You may want to think about having your engine steam cleaned so you can better identify any current leaks. I used to live in a very Cold climate similar to Canada here in the States. My cars would always have leaking seals more often than if you're in a warmer part of the US.

    2010 Accord 2.4l, 410,000 kms. The only unusual repair was the drivers door lock switch, twice, due to being made out of plastic and the drivers armrest twice wore out.

  • @richardtomaszewski3569
    @richardtomaszewski3569 4 месяца назад +4

    Have a 2010 2.4l with 230k miles and never had any of these problems.
    No mention of the excessive oil consumption caused by a faulty piston ring design? Honda did have a TSB and an extended warranty to repair this with redesigned parts but since it wasn't a "recall" they told no one unless you happened to bring your car to Honda for this issue and only agreed to fix the most egregious cases leaving many of these cars floating around suffering from this issue.
    The only problem the car has had which I consider to be unusual was the starter died at 70k miles. Replaced with a new part from Honda and has been good ever since. Interestingly, the original starter was tagged made in USA the replacement was tagged made in Japan.
    That and annoyingly the damn hood strut holder! I've had to replace that like 3 times already. Not only is it an annoying thing to have break, when it does break I have to find a means to secure the hood strut in place so it's not just flopping around. This is especially irritating due to the oil consumption issue which means every 1k miles (about 3 or 4 weeks) I have to pop the hood to top the engine off with oil. Also did I mention how bad oil consumption is for the incredibly expensive catalytic converter?

  • @firstlast---

    • @firstlast---
      @firstlast--- 3 года назад +6

      @@jupiterbullish2520 Yep. Any accord 08-12 with the 4 cylinder will have this issue if the phaser hasn't been replaced already. It's not hard to repair, if you have done a valve adjustment on this engine you are capable of replacing the phaser. My advice is to have a very well calibrated torque wrench for the cam journal caps and to clearly mark the timing chain with a paint marker. The camshaft has a keyway so you can only install the phaser one way

    We bought a 2010 Honda Accord V6 with low mileage and after driving roughly 3000 miles found out the number 3 cylinder was letting oil onto the spark plug which fouled it and we got flashing engine light.This was a problem with the V6 and they told us we missed the recall.Today I’m still driving it and I change that plug around 5000 miles.

    • @danjoe22
      @danjoe22 2 года назад +7

      You should look into disabling the vcm system which allows the engine to go into eco mode, disabling 3 cylinders during certain driving conditions to save fuel. It is this system which allows oil into the number 3 cylinder, fouling the spark plug and causing the engine misfire. There was a recall on this but it only paid to get the problem diagnosed and the spark plug replaced. The ultimate solution is to disable the vcm. There are many ways to do this, I did it with the vcm muzzler. I too have a 2010 Accord with the V6.

    You mentioned the coil and misfire problems. You could have discussed what causes this in the 6 cylinder engine which is the variable cylinder management (VCM). 260,000 miles 2009 4cyl accord single owner here. (It was my dads and now mine)
    So far:
    - VETEC selenoid gasket was leaking
    - Starter Motor
    - Powe Stearing pump Oring started leaking
    - I did rebuild the alternator but it was due to the power stearing leakage dripping over it
    - AC fan motor
    - 2 Motor mounts
    - Sparkplug fail after 250k
    - Stabilization bar bushings were also replaced
    AC have never fail and it has the original suspension system
    - It is a really good car. For a car with that milage those are pretty stupid thing to brake. Most of them like motor mounts and bar bushings not a problem for a lot of people but I hate vibrations and knocking sounds.
    Sparkplugs and AC Fan motor are just basic maintenance like brake pads
    Apparently the Vtec gasket and power stearing pump oring are common issues but honestly the stearing pump oring took me 2 minutes to replace and as of this moment im taking a brake from changing the oil and now its time to tacke the vtec gasket, but it doesn’t seem too complicated.

      @@sajiwan1 Correct. I have a 2010 3.5 that started burning oil bad. Honda would not qualify me for the tsb because my oil consumption was just under 2 quarts burned every 3,000 miles. What a joke. Honda would charge me $ 4,000 to rebuild top of motor. I found a reputable small garage that has seen the issue and had a solution. he did a cylinder flush to remove the carbon build up on the rings and pistons on cylinders 1-3 and recommended i buy a vcm muzzler. It completely solved the issues. No more fouling plugs every 5,000 miles, no oil consumption and real V6 power all the time. 28,000 miles later, no issues!

    We have a 2012 accord 4 cylinder. Ac doesn’t work. New compressor and expansion valve. New relay and pressure switch. Clutch won’t engage. Jumper it to recharge. System capacity is 14-15 ounces. I got 12 oz in it. Still won’t engage and high side is up over 400 with fans off. 300 with fans on. Ambient temp of 95°. Only thing left to change is condenser and drier. Both are on the way from 1aauto. After that I’m at a loss. That was with pulling vacuum to 29 for an hour.

    I’m looking at a Honda Accord lx 2014 50k miles for 10k. Does that sound like a good price range. This is my first car I’m getting. I was debating between this or a Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2016 60k miles for 14k.
